Mumbai, More people signed up for <keyword id="19925152" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="prime-video" source="keywords">Prime Video</keyword> in India than any other country outside of the US in recent years, Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios <keyword id="20143672" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mike-hopkins" source="keywords">Mike Hopkins</keyword> has said. India is one of the key geographies for Amazon, <keyword id="21019964" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hopkins" source="keywords">Hopkins</keyword> said on Tuesday at a star-studded Prime Video Presents event here that saw the announcement of the streamer's 2024 slate of 69 projects including shows, movies, documentaries and returning titles across languages and regions. "I have a couple of stats to just explain how things are going here. The first one is that for the last several years, outside of the US, more people have signed up for Prime in India than anywhere else in the world. That's pretty good growth. "The other thing about India is that more people started subscribing to Prime Video here than any other benefit... In the last year, India had the highest percentage of Prime members stream Prime Video than any other country in the world," Hopkins said during a chat with event host <keyword id="19901337" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="karan-johar" source="keywords">Karan Johar</keyword>. "We look at that next 250 million subscribers that we're going to acquire, which are definitely going to come from outside the United States. We're not going to be able to achieve that unless we do a really good job for customers in India, so India is a key geography for us," Hopkins said. He also spoke about the exponential growth that streaming has had in India despite being in the market only for the last few years. Hopkins said "Farzi", "Indian Police Force" and "The Family Man" are among the shows that have worked well internationally. "I've heard many people say this week that more people are streaming TV. And they're watching it on linear television and satellite... What's remarkable about it is that streaming has only really existed for seven or eight years," he said. According to Hopkins, Indian content is making its presence felt on a global level. Last year, he said, Indian titles were watched in over 200 countries and territories worldwide. He said that while the streamer commissions programming in different parts of the world, the core philosophy has always been that the content should first work with the audience it is made for. "(In India,) we've really knocked it out of the park. Some of the shows that are working the best for us internationally are 'Farzi', 'Indian Police Force', 'The Family Man' and many more. So we couldn't be more thrilled with what's going on here." The India slate announcement featured returning titles such as "Mirzapur 3", "Panchayat 3" and "Pataal Lok 2" as well as new shows and movies like "Call Me Bae", "Be Happy" and "<keyword id="20354241" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="subedar" source="keywords">Subedar</keyword>". The slate also featured titles such as "Citadel: Honey Bunny", "Daldal", which marks Bhumi Pednekar's OTT debut, Ankur Tewari and Swanand Kirkire-created "Bandwale" and "Daring Partners" starring Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty.

Instead, all the soldiers will raise only 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' (Mother India live long) and Ladakhi 'Ki Ki So So Lhargyalo' (Victory to God) slogans and defeat China. This enthusiasm is alive, not only among serving soldiers, but retired servicemen too. Even at the age of 84, our soldiers of Ladakh Scouts have the strength and competence to fight back." Reminiscing about his experiences as a soldier, Murup, who had joined the Army in 1977 and retired in 2009, said that he and others would walk along with porters and ponies, carrying arms, ammunition, rations and other supplies, through the treacherous Shyok river, also known as 'the river of death' for its difficult terrain and furious flow. Shyok is a tributary of the Indus river that flows through northern Ladakh and enters Gilgit-Baltistan, covering over 550 km. "Sometimes, we used to cross even five times during a day. In all, we used to cross the river 118 times. It resulted in scraping off our skin, but we would keep moving on. It would take us 12 to 15 days, even till the 1980s," Murup said. But things have changed today. "The current government made roads and bridges. The Galwan valley bridge got completed in 2019. Now in a day or two, soldiers can reach there comfortably. No need of ponies or horses or porters to carry arms and rations anymore," the ex-serviceman said. At that point, he argued, China was self-assured but now they are worried that there is no weakness in the Indian Army's deployment and infrastructure in the region. "That is why they are expressing their frustration with aggression. We should not trust China at all," the retired soldier of the Ladakh Scouts said. Ladakh Scouts regiment, known as 'Snow Warriors' and 'eyes and ears' of the Indian Army, has five combat battalions in Ladakh. Specialists of mountain warfare, Ladakh Scouts is one of the most decorated regiments of the Indian Army, with over 300 gallantry awards and citations, including Maha Vir Chakras, Ashok Chakra and Kirti Chakras. Vice President of Ex-Services League Ladakh Region, Subedar Rigzin Nawang, recalls that General S.S. Grewal had long ago proposed that the Ladakh Scouts should be expanded from five battalions to 20. The Subedar had joined the Army in 1970 and retired in 1999. He participated in the 1971 war and in the 1999 Kargil war too. "There is a huge advantage to that because Ladakh Scouts are native, already acclimatized and can be deployed as and when necessary without any delay caused due to the movement of the troops from the plains of India. Soldiers from other parts of our country need a day or two to acclimatize and sometimes bad weather causes further delay of the troops," Nawang said. It was because of his mountain warfare skills and knowledge, that as a young soldier Nawang had crossed the LoC and entered Pakistan both in 1971 and 1999. Neeraj Chopra wins India’s first track and field gold at an Olympics

Even as the Pathankot faceoff between Indian Army and Pakistan terrorists may have come to an end, a pall of gloom has descended on the aggrieved families of the 7 <keyword id="6355451" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Martyrs">martyrs</keyword> who died while holding their ground and showing unparalled bravery for nearly three days against terrorists at the airbase in Punjab. 
 
As India mourns the loss of such precious lives, we remember the bravehearts and their last moments of courage that has left a whole nation inspired. 
 
Martyr Lieutenant Colonel Niranjan Kumar 
 
Lt Col Niranjan E Kumar was a native of Elambulassery near Mannarkkad in Palakkad. He was a member of the bomb disposal squad of the NSG. Officials said that he was killed as an improvised explosive device went off accidentally during combing operations which also injured five NSG personnel. A resident of Kerala, Niranjan is survived by wife Radhika and their two-year-old daughter. 
 
Subedar Major Fateh Singh 
 
51-year-old Subedar Major Fateh Singh was on duty at the Pathankot base as part of the Defence Security Corps, a unit staffed by veterans no longer in active service. He had clinched a gold in the Big Bore Rifle Three Position event and a silver in the Big Rifle Prone Position event of the first Commonwealth Shooting Championship held here in 1995. He retired as a Subedar Major from the Dogra regiment in 2009 and joined the Defence Service Corps. On the fateful night, he wore his uniform and ran out of the house at the base to fight the terrorists. In a departure from tradition, his Madhu was among those who carried her father's coffin to his funeral pyre. 
 
 
Garud Commando Gursevak Singh 
 
Garud Commando Gursevak Singh, a resident of village Garnala in Ambala who was killed in the Pathankot terror attack. Singh was posted in Adampur and was rushed to the Pathankot Air Base Friday night to counter the terrorists. He had applied for a long leave, from January 13 to February 6, so that he could celebrate his wife’s birthday at home on February 5. Gursewak had joined Garud Commando Force, special forces unit of the Air Force six years ago, soon after completing his BA, following in the footsteps of his elder brother, Hardeep Singh, who is also in the Indian Army, posted in Dharamshala. He was cremated today with full military honours at his village near Ambala in Punjab. The commando was shot early as the Pathankot gun battle began, but he continued to fight till he died. The commando had joined the Garuds six years ago after graduation. He got married only 45 days ago. 
 
 
Havildar Kulwant Singh 
 
49-year-old Kulwant from Gurdaspur district of Punjab joined the army at the age of 19. In 2004, he retired from the army. In 2006, he joined Defence Security Corps. He is survived by his mother, wife and two sons. 
 
Havildar Sanjeevan Singh Rana: 
 
Sanjeevan Singh Rana (51) from Himachal Pradesh suffered five bullet injuries and martyred on the first day of the attack. He was the only earner of his family and survived by wife and three children. In 2009, he retired from Dogra Regiment. His father, Rattan Rana also served in army. 
 
Sepoy Jagdish Chanda 
 
He was working in the kitchen as a cook when the terrorists attacked. He chased the terrorists apparently bare-handed and managed to kill one of the terrorists there itself with his own rifle. He later fell to the bullets of the remaining terrorists. 
 
Mohit Chand 
Not much has been written about him, and we are waiting for update from authorities.

Pathankot terror attack: Remembering the 7 bravehearts who laid their lives to save the nation's pride

Three days after the country rejoiced on hearing that one of the ten soldiers who were buried under snow after an avalanche hit their <keyword id="42770" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Siachen">Siachen</keyword> post has been rescued alive, the moment of grief has left everyone in shock. 
 
Lance Naik ​Hanumanthappa Koppad breathed his last in the Army Hospital, Delhi, as all attempts to revive the Siachen braveheart from coma failed. The soldier suffered acute oxygen deprivation to the brain and pneumonia in both lungs. 
 
Talking of the rescue operation that brought this momentary joy, it could only be termed a miracle that rescue teams were able to establish a radio contact with one of the ten soldiers of Indian Army, who were trapped after a massive ice-wall avalanche hit their 19,600 feet high Army post in Siachen Glacier on February 3. 
 
This radio signal prompted the rescue teams to start their rescue operation along with sniffer dogs, earth-penetrating radars, radio signal detectors, and specialised ice-cutting and boring equipments, with double efforts. 
 
"After radio contact was established on February 4, rescue operations were stalled on February 5 due to snow storms and blizzards. Soldiers deployed at such posts keep their radio sets switched on to ensure they can be traced by signals in case of a mishap," an officer told TOI. 
 
The teams were only waiting for the weather to be slightly clear. As soon as that happened, over 150 rescue personnel resumed their efforts so that they could locate the "general area" where they expected the soldiers to have got buried. 
 
Nine bodies were extricated around 7.30pm on Monday, and Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad was taken out alive from under 35 feet of snow, his condition being very critical. 
 
Names of the martyrs who did the supreme sacrifice for the nation are Subedar Nagesha, Havildar Elumalai, Lance Havildar S Kumar, Lance Naik Sudheesh, Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad , sepoys Mahesha PN, Ganesan G, Rama Moorthy N, Mustaq Ahmed and nursing assistant Suryawanshi SV, all belonging to the 19th Battalion of Madras Regiment.

With her stellar performance in Kahaani, Vidya proves that you don’t need a hero to deliver a hit! In the film, she has played a seven-month pregnant woman who is in search of her husband, and a breath-taking thriller unfolds. Kudos to Vidya, who ironically displays more ‘male ornaments’ than most heroes.
