Guwahati (Assam) [India], November 28 (ANI): To attain a better understanding of <keyword id="2966017" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forest-ecology" source="Orion">forest ecology</keyword> in the urban landscape, Aaranyak organised an event titled Nature's Wonderland - A journey of curiosity, supported by Wipro Foundation and LEA Associates South Asia Pvt. Ltd. (LASA), focusing on forest biodiversity at the RReserve Forest, Kamrup District. Ten students of Rani High School participated in the journey accompanied by their faculty, Prarthana Mudoi and Kakali Buragohain organised on Sunday. "Deforestation, the urban heat island (UHI) effect, freshwater scarcity, pollution, flash floods and climate change are the pertinent issues clouding the metropolis," Aaranyak stated in a press statement. With cities becoming the locus of economy, trade, and logistics, landscapes around the world are changing due to rapid urbanisation. Cities are swelling with population influx in search of education, employment, lifestyle, and health care at the cost of natural resources like land, air, forests, rivers, streams, wetlands, croplands, etc. Aaranyaks Biologist, Jigyas Boruah briefed the participants about the art and science of birdwatching, and the use and adjustment of binoculars to take pleasure in birdwatching. Baruah described the ecology and habitat characteristics of the birds, Scarlet Minivet (Pericrocotus speciosus), Bronzed Drongo (Dicrurus aeneus), Black-hooded Oriole (Oriolus xanthornus), White-throated Kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis), Black-crested Bulbul (Rubigula flaviventris), spotted by the students while trailing in the Reserve Forest. Amid the environmental challenges, Guwahati, the bowl-shaped city dotted by green-covered hills, is thriving due to the presence of forest in the city as well as in the periphery of the city. "These forests provide multiple environmental services like heat mitigation, air and noise pollution reduction, groundwater recharge as well as other nature-based solutions, and socio-economic and psychological benefits," Aaranyak further said. Aaranyaks environmentalist Tanvi Hussain gave the participants an insight into the satellite-based navigation device, GPS and the process of trilateration for determining the geo-location of a place widely used in all modern gadgets. The nature enthusiasts relieved their uphill climb tiredness meditating to the trickling music of the Kopili stream. While Aaranyaks Wasima Begum carried out a biodiversity understanding and story-telling session Leaves Museum by the fallen leaves collected by the students on the trail. A group of students arranged the collected leaves as a flower to outline the variety and variability of flora and fauna. Another group arranged the leaves to depict Lord Ganesha to outline the shrinking of wild habitats emphasizing Human-Elephant coexistence. The activity threw light on the enthusiasm and awareness of the <keyword id="4550079" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="GenZ" source="Orion">GenZ</keyword> on environmental issues and biodiversity conservation. Booking can be made in advance from the <a href="http://www.rajasthanwildlife.in/">website</a>, or you can try your luck directly at the Forest Office who keep a few canters and a Gypsy on hold for impromptu reservations.Ranthambore Fort Smack in the middle of the Park is the fascinating 10th-century Ranthambore Fort, strewn around which are ancient temples and mosques, hunting pavilions, lakes and vine-covered chhatris. Built by the Chauhan Rajputs, the Fort is believed to be the first Jauhar site (mass suicide by immolation) in Rajput history. The rather grim story is that the ruler Hammir Deva was embroiled in a long battle with Muslim forces. Although Hammir fought off the invaders, the women who were seeking refuge in the Fort learned that he had succumbed on the battlefield and preferring death to dishonour, they committed mass suicide. Covering an area of 4.5 square kilometres, the ruins of the Fort provide a great vantage point to view the surrounding areas. The Fort also has a few temples dedicated to Ganesha, Shiva and Ramlalaji. DastkarThis not-for-profit NGO was established in 1981 to empower village women to earn regular income by selling their textile and embroidery work. Situated a little beyond the park entrance, the Dastkar Ranthambore Project was started in 1991. At the time, there were only 100 <keyword id="940905" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bandhani">Bandhani</keyword> workers in Sawai Madhopur. Today, more than 2000 craftspeople work here. There are at least 20 Hindu deities that are regularly worshiped in Japan, even as some of them have long been forgotten in India. Amongst the deities worshipped in Japan, one can see the idols of Saraswati, Lakshmi, Indra, Brahma, Ganesha, Garuda and others. 
 A unique photo exhibition of art-historian Benoy Behl that is being held at the Indian Museum of Japan would throw light on the India’s long lost history surviving in the faraway land. These photographs reveal the importance that the Indian heritage holds in <keyword id="414952" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Japanese-culture">Japanese culture</keyword>. 
 
To name some of these references, the 6th century Siddham script which has disappeared from India is preserved in Japan. Along with this, 'Beejaksharas' (or etymology of alphabets) of Sanskrit in this script are also revered in the Japanese culture. 
 
Similarly, some Japanese tombs are adorned with the Sanskrit alphabets and even though people there don’t understand it, they worship them nonetheless. 
 
Behl's research revealed that there is a school in Koyasan where Sanskrit is taught in the Siddham script. 
 
A good number of Japanese words originate from Sanskrit, a major brand of Japanese milk products Sujata, finds its name from Buddha’s story. 
 
"In many ways, this philosophic understanding is most well preserved in Japan. Japan has not had the breakdown of cultural norms which India suffered when a colonial education system was created. Therefore, most Indians learnt about our own culture from the Western point of view. The dominant and admired language was English, which it remains till today," Indian Museum education officer Sayan Bhattacharya told TOI. 
 
The exhibition is all set to explain the unique relationship that India has with Japan. 
 
"The deep-rooted spirit of the Buddha's teachings energizes the Japanese people. Buddhist temples are numerous and vast numbers of people visit these every day. Besides the Buddha, many ancient Indian deities and practices (prevail) in their temples. An Indian feels quite at home in Japan," Behl wrote in his research.
