Mumbai: Indian stock markets rallied on Monday after the <keyword id="20032950" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP-led-government" source="keywords">BJP-led government</keyword> secured a majority in the latest state elections in Maharashtra. The <keyword id="20641216" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nifty-50" source="keywords">Nifty 50</keyword> index gained more than 1.45 per cent or 346.30 points to open at 24,253.55 points, while the BSE <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword> index surged 1,076 points or 1.36 percent to open at 80,193.47 points. Experts noted that the election results have an impact on the markets today, and if past trends are followed, the markets may witness some rally amid the return of the BJP in the Maharashtra state elections. <keyword id="20161891" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ajay-Bagga" source="keywords">Ajay Bagga</keyword> Banking and Market Expert stated that "The just concluded elections in Maharashtra, the results of which were declared on November 23rd, will have a positive immediate impact on the stock markets. The landslide win for the BJP lead coalition in the Maharashtra state elections could lead to a short-term boost to the Indian stock markets which have been in a declining mode" He further added "Investors will interpret this mandate as favourable for the capex and infrastructure push that is ongoing in Maharashtra. The beneficiary sectors of this election are industrials, infrastructure, manufacturing, real estate and financials". In the sectoral indices on the National Stock Exchange, <keyword id="20065014" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty-Realty" source="keywords">Nifty Realty</keyword> and <keyword id="19941314" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty-PSU-Bank" source="keywords">Nifty PSU Bank</keyword> rallied with a surge of more than 2 percent, while other major indices also gained more than 1.5 per cent, including Nifty Metal, Nifty Media, and Nifty Oil &amp; Gas. In the Nifty 50 list, 49 stocks gained during the opening session, while only one stock declined. Shri Finance opened as the top gainer in the Nifty 50. The shares of the AdGroup also surged around 2 percent at the time of filing this report. <keyword id="19967296" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Green" source="keywords">Adani Green</keyword> also climbed around 4 percent. "We are most likely to break the falling 20-day average that lies at 24,030, which will be the first time that'd happen since the record high of 27th September. Seasonality trends between now and the end of the year have been historically positive, with the Nifty rising 80% of the time during this period with an average return of over 4 per cent" Akshay Chinchalkar, Head of Research, Axis Securities. In other Asian markets, Japan and South Korea indices rallied. The Nikkei 225 index surged more than 1.5 percent, South Korea's Kospi also rose by 1.5 percent, Taiwan's Weighted Index was up by 0.48 percent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was down marginally by 0.14 percent at the time of filing this report.

Disaffected young men post memes to rally support for their revolution against the elites.That may sound like a description of the frenzied days leading up to the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-election-win-analysis-harris-immigration-abortion-economy-musk-2024-11">US presidential election</a> this week. It could also describe the meme stock craze of early 2021.The two events have striking similarities. Both featured celebrity billionaires championing their favorites. Musk <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/gamestop-stock-price-elon-musk-gamestonk-tweet-extends-trading-rally-2021-1">tweeted</a> "GameStonk!!" at the height of the short squeeze on GameStop stock in January 2021, then <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/currencies/news/dogecoin-price-elon-musk-twitter-cryptocurrency-market-trading-reddit-doge-2021-2">posted</a> "Dogecoin is the people's crypto" a few days later, causing both assets to spike in price. In September of this year, the Tesla CEO <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/musk-donated-million-ron-desantis-changed-tack-bet-on-trump-2024-10">posted</a> on X: "Unless Trump is elected, America will fall to tyranny."Similarly, in February 2021, Cuban <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mark-cuban-thanks-wallstreetbets-advises-hold-gamestop-stock-robinhood-reddit-2021-2">thanked</a> members of Reddit's WallStreetBets forum for "changing the game" and "taking on Wall Street." Two months later, the "Shark Tank" star tweeted that dogecoin was the "one coin that people actually use for transactions."Cuban <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mark-cuban-kamala-harris-donald-trump-economic-plans-2024-8">threw his weight behind</a> Kamala Harris going into the election, praising the Democratic candidate and criticizing Trump in several since-deleted X posts."It's certainly got hallmarks of the kind of vibes-based, personality-based cultish side," Neil Wilson, the chief market analyst at Finalto, told Business Insider about the election conversation this year.<h2 id="7d9e95dc-2060-4569-ac60-cb58c6e78915">Trading frenzy</h2>Retail traders bet big on both occasions. They <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/reddit-traders-memes-crypto-stock-market-wall-street-strikes-back-2021-12">piled</a> into beaten-down stocks, SPACs, crypto, and other high-risk assets in early 2021. Similarly, they <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kalshi-polymarket-top-apple-app-store-downloads-election-betting-surge-2024-11">plowed</a> millions of dollars into Polymarket and other prediction-betting markets before the polls closed and Trump secured victory.Stars emerged both times. Keith "Roaring Kitty" Gill became the face of the GameStop craze for <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/keith-gill-gamestop-stock-bet-79-million-one-day-gain-2024-6">ostensibly making</a> tens of millions of dollars on the video game retailer's stock. A French trader known as Théo <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/polymarket-whale-banked-85-million-profit-trump-president-election-win-2024-11">racked up</a> similar profits betting on Trump via Polymarket.Young men played an outsize role in both sagas. In 2021, they flocked to the WSB subreddit and other social media to share their stock picks, exchange funny memes, and share screenshots of their wins and losses. Their <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/robinhood-trader-made-1300-percent-return-tesla-stock-rally-2020-2">motives</a> ranged from wanting to get rich quickly, to having a laugh, to fighting back against the Wall Street elite they saw as bullying the businesses of their childhood.<h2 id="c1b692d8-9e77-48f8-82d0-4c4d6b810ca3">Winning men</h2>Men under 30 <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-2024-election-win-5-stats-to-explain-result-2024-11">rallied behind Trump en masse</a> this year, framing his campaign as a common-sense revolution against an oppressive establishment, lying media, and unfair system. Along with memes, they used AI-generated artwork to paint Trump and those around him as superheroes and patriotic titans. Trump and Musk <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-targets-young-men-theo-von-logan-paul-adin-ross-2024-8">galvanized young men</a> with X posts, speaking to "manosphere" stars such as Joe Rogan, and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-joe-rogan-interview-podcast-young-male-voters-2024-10">promoting</a> traditional masculine ideals. The upshot was a stark shift among men under 30 in favor of Republicans compared to previous elections."It is hard not to attribute momentum gains in Trump support among younger male voters to Musk's or Rogan's endorsements," Mark Malek, chief investment officer at Siebert, told BI. He likened the trend to Musk's touting of dogecoin, which boosted the dog-themed crypto. Wall Street traders watched the swings in election betting markets to assess the state of the presidential race and inform their investments, Malek added.<h2 id="5e5ff9c8-86ff-4d6a-bc55-54b2a03ceb6a">Memes with meaning</h2>Naeem Aslam, chief investment officer at Zaye Capital Markets, told BI he saw "strong similarities" between the two events but with some twists this time."In 2021, WallStreetBets (WSB) aimed at the money bigwigs, rallying against hedge funds. But now, the target list has grown. It's not just Wall Street in the crosshairs. Washington, the media, and what many call the 'establishment' are all fair game," he said."The meme-driven buzz from 2021 has returned, but now it's mixed with a strong ideological element making today's speculative scene wider and longer-lasting."Trump Media &amp; Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social which counts the president-elect as its majority shareholder, unites several of these ideas. It became a proxy for Trump's chances at returning to the White House and has <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/trump-trade-us-presidential-election-dollar-treasuries-stocks-crypto-djt-2024-11">swung dramatically</a> in recent days.Tesla stock also <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/tesla-stock-price-trump-win-elon-musk-election-tsla-2024-11">surged</a> 15% on Wednesday after Trump won, even as other clean-energy stocks tanked in anticipation of a less green administration. Malek said it was clear that "some sort of premium has been placed on the stock as a result of Musk's very public involvement in Trump's campaign.""Tesla is by no means a meme stock, but its recent move certainly has notes of one," he added.There are clear parallels between the meme stock mania of early 2021 and the social-media chatter and betting-platform activity going into the election. But it's worth acknowledging the difference in scale and stakes between the two episodes."One is selecting someone to run a country and make decisions that will affect millions of people's lives, the other is about a relatively small group of people hoping to make a quick buck," Dan Coatsworth, an investment analyst at AJ Bell, told BI.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>China's aggressive stimulus measures have sparked a significant stock market rally.</li><li>Many analysts say the measure is not enough to fix the challenges in China's economy.</li></ul>Skeptics have been out in force since China rolled out aggressive stimulus measures last week to prop up its ailing economy and markets.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-economy-aggressive-monetary-stimulus-interest-rate-rrr-2024-9">It's just not enough</a> to reverse the magnitude of China's problems — including an epic property crisis and high youth unemployment — they say.Still, traders, investors, and speculators have sent China's stock market to its best month in nearly a decade, signaling that the market players think that Beijing's moves are a "bazooka."On Monday, mainland China's benchmark <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/csi-300">CSI 300</a> closed 8.5% higher, posting its biggest gain since 2008.Hong Kong's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/hang_seng">Hang Seng Index</a> gained as much as 4.2%.The gains are significant because the Chinese markets were in a prolonged market slump until last week's announcements."The PBoC and Politburo, all leaning in on putting a floor in property, boosting equities and backstopping households, have hit the right notes," Vishnu Varathan, Mizuho's macro research head for Asia excluding Japan, wrote in a note on Monday.The People's Bank of China's stock market stimulus was unusual.State media <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://stcn.com/article/detail/1336646.html">China Securities Journal</a> explained the thinking behind the move in an editorial on Monday"The capital market is not only a 'barometer' of the macroeconomy, but also a 'thermometer' of investor sentiment," said the editorial, which acknowledged the vicious cycle of negative feedback between the stock markets and economic sentiment."Boosting the capital market is an important breakthrough in strengthening confidence. An active stock market and improved investor confidence will improve expectations for economic development," the media outlet wrote.Chinese central bank governor Pan Gongsheng even said during his <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.gov.cn/lianbo/fabu/202409/content_6976186.htm">Tuesday announcement</a> of the stimulus measures that authorities would consider injecting more liquidity into the system if stock market support measures from swaps and loans for share buybacks prove to be successful.Pan did not spell out the definition of success or put a limit to the amount of additional liquidity that authorities could inject, fueling euphoric hopes that the Chinese Communist Party could come close to throwing the kitchen sink."In other words, the state is actually telling investors that the Chinese stock market will not continue to decline, and China will provide 'unlimited ammunition' to support the stock market," Criss Wang, an independent analyst who publishes on the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.smartkarma.com/insights/a-rare-surge-in-china-s-stock-market-but-this-is-not-a-bull-market">Smartkarma platform,</a> wrote on Monday.Once the capital market is stabilized, overall sentiment would improve and boost the economy, she added.<h2 id="c3f7c721-b913-4f03-a1e6-d99c078094b0">New tactics and shrinking factory activity</h2>The PBOC's recent intervention is a "clear departure from previous policy," wrote Global Data.TS Lombard economists wrote in a note last week."The bank, which usually cautions against speculation, now seeks to encourage it!" they added.Whether such a strategy would work in the long run is a question mark, since China's economy faces significant fundamental challenges.China's factory activity shrank for a fifth straight month in September, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.stats.gov.cn/sj/zxfb/202409/t20240930_1956798.html">official data</a> showed on Monday.But the financial markets are fickle and trading increasingly automated, so there may be room for the rally to run."The sheer relief of coordinated China stimulus is manifesting as 'risk on' and can take on its own momentum," wrote Mizuho's Varathan.The Hong Kong Stock Exchange will be closed on Tuesday for a public holiday.Mainland China's stock markets will also be closed from Tuesday to Monday.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Stock market highs are expected to continue into 2025, according to Oppenheimer's Ari Wald.</li><li>In a note, Wald highlighted strong market breadth and healthy signs across various sectors.</li></ul>Record highs in the stock market are set to continue, as few signals suggest a top in equity prices is near.That's according to Oppenheimer managing director and technical analyst Ari Wald, who said in a note over the weekend that there are bullish "inflection points" in the underlying market."We continue to balance seasonal headwinds against our view that evidence of a major top is not compelling," Wald said.Wald said he is encouraged by the fact that the number of stocks on the New York Stock Exchange above their 200-day moving average is above 60%, which is a healthy sign for a market advance, as it shows that it's not just a handful of mega-cap tech companies driving the gains.<div type="image" title="A chart of the S&amp;P 500" height="502" width="894" msid="113605545" hostid="261" sizebytes="40934"></div>"We stress that market breadth remains constructive, and defensive leadership may represent a 'catch-up' into previous underperformers," Wald said.Wald said that based on the chart, traders can buy last week's breakout to new cycle highs in the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/s&amp;p_500">S&amp;P 500</a>, with a stop-loss set at the 5,650 level on a closing basis.A stop-loss is a risk management tool used by traders to automatically sell a security when a certain price is hit.For the S&amp;P 500, the 5,650 level represents potential downside of just 1%, while Wald's upside price target of 6,000 in the first half of 2025 represents potential upside of 5%.Wald's 6,000 price target for the S&amp;P 500 is based on the median bull market cycle."The S&amp;P 500 is up 64% over the 23 months between October 2022 and September 2024. Since 1932, the median bull cycle has gained 73% over a 32-month period," Wald said.Meanwhile, the average bull market cycle gain is 102% over a 34-month period.And if the current bull market follows the path of the average bull market, stocks could continue to rise through the end of 2025 with the S&amp;P 500 rising to around the 7,000 level.That 7,000 target aligns with <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-outlook-price-target-bullish-high-6000-yearend-bubble-2024-6">a bullish prediction from Evercore ISI,</a> which said in June that the AI craze could push stocks higher in 2025.Beneath the surface of the broad market, Wald said he is encouraged by the "right" leadership making new highs, including the Industrials sector."We view the cycle high for Industrials as confirmation of an intact bull market," Wall said.Record highs in the financials sector is another positive sign for the broader stock market, while the technology sector could be gearing up for its next big move higher, according to Wald."Technology is coming off an all-time high on both an absolute and relative basis in July. While the sector's relative trend has moderated, we still believe Technology represents one of the strongest long-term structures in the market," Wald said.Finally, Wald highlighted the healthcare sector as another area of the market that is showing resilience, even as it lags other sectors.While the healthcare sector is breaking out to new all-time highs, on a relative basis it is falling to new multi-year lows compared to the S&amp;P 500."We think the divergence between Health Care's absolute and relative trend speaks to the broadness of market breadth — even lagging sectors are rallying," Wald said.Similar scenarios are playing out in the communication services and materials sectors, according to the note.
