The crocodiles in the ponds are being trapped in cages for moving them to another location. The two ponds are said to contain crocodiles as big as 10-feet. The <keyword id="6710591" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mugger-crocodile">mugger crocodile</keyword> or broad-snouted crocodile (scientifically known as Crocodylus palustris) is listed as an endangered species in Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act. While the plan may boost tourism around Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, some of the top officials have reportedly been questioning the idea. According to them, removing these crocodiles from Narmada and bringing them back to a human habitat will affect the natural balance. According to one forest official, the crocodiles will likely be released in a reservoir around the dam but the scale of the evacuation could potentially harm their breeding cycles. India’s Civil Aviation Department and the Gujarat government have been working on a plan to build a seaplane terminal near Pond 3, also known as Magar talav (crocodile pond). The seaplane terminal will connect the Sardar Patel statue site with other cities in Gujarat. India launched the seaplane service with much fanfare last year and was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi. At 182 meters, it’s even twice the height of the Statue of Liberty. That means if you’re standing anywhere within the radius of 7 kms, you’ll be able to see the statue towering down on you. And, the best part is it’s not just something to stare at. You can actually go inside the statue and climb up the viewing gallery at 153 meters. Since the statue has been constructed on the Sadhu Bet Island on the Narmada River, visitors can see the Sardar Sarovar Dam laid out in front of them from there. The government said that it took over 70,000 tonnes of cement, 18,500 tonnes of reinforced steel and 6,000 tonnes of structural steel to put the statue together. Even the outer layer of statue required over 1,700 tonnes of bronze. The Statue of Unity has been built as a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was key to unitiing the princely states after the India-Pakistan partition in 1947. It’s more than just the statue During the unveiling of the Statue of Unity, more tourist locations were also introduced in and around the location. First off, there’s a 17 kms long valley of flowers in the vicinity. Second, and more importantly, there’s a ‘Tent City’ around the statue where visitors can stay. While the launch of the statue was a big event, one can’t help but wonder if this tourism attraction is going to bring in competition for Gujarat’s most popular winter festival that’s famously known for its tent city, the Rann Utsav. The government’s even come out and said it expects 15,000 tourist visitors on a daily basis. The Indian Railways, to support this venture, is running a special train today called the ‘Unity Express’ that will run from Rajkot to the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, within the state of Gujarat.

Not only did it cost ₹30 billion ($410 million) to construct, but the government is shelling out an extra ₹500 million ($6.7 million) a year to maintain it. And, to top it off, the government is pumping in more money to advertise India’s newest tourist attraction. While the statue is definitely an impressive feat in itself towering at 182 meters as a marvel of engineering, many people are left <a href="https://www.dailyo.in/variety/statue-of-unity-why-tallest-statue-of-sardar-patel-will-dwarf-pm-modi-s-achievments/story/1/27508.html">wondering</a> whether it was the best use of public funds. Further spending on advertising seems even more unjustified. The amount of money that was spent constructing the ‘Statue of Unity’ could have been used to fund two new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campuses, five Indian Institute of Management (IIM) campuses as well as fund six missions to Mars under the India’s apex space agency according to a study done by <a href="https://www.indiaspend.com/statue-of-unity-the-worlds-tallest-but-heres-what-it-could-have-paid-for/">IndiaSpend</a>. Not to mention that at a time of water crisis and agricultural difficulties in Gujarat, the project’s corpus more than doubles the proposed budgets for the <a href="https://pmksy.gov.in/">Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana</a> (Prime Minister’s Agriculture-Irrigation Scheme). Instead of building a tourist attraction, the ₹30 billion could have gone towards irrigating over 40,000 hectares of land, renovating nearly 162 irrigation scheme and constructing 425 small check-dams. What could have been versus what is The cost of building the Statue of Unity is not only about how the money could’ve been spent instead but the <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/on-statue-of-unity-inauguration-villagers-write-open-letter-to-protest-pms-visit-1939614">social costs</a> that should concern the local and national governments. Building a statue requires land — land that usually belongs to an individual or a group of people. In this case, it was land of nearly 72 villages, where 32 have been more severely hit than the rest according to <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/sardar-patel-statue-why-75-000-tribals-are-planning-a-mass-protest-against-statue-of-unity-1934779">NDTV.</a> Rehabilitation efforts have been neglected and since the construction of the statue began, the area has been reporting water shortages.

In October, the airline company had launched a seaplane service between Ahmedabad (Sabarmati riverfront) and the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat. The <keyword id="871581" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="flight-service">flight service</keyword> is operated by <keyword id="6358032" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SpiceJet">SpiceJet</keyword>'s fully-owned subsidiary, Spice Shuttle, and a 15-seater Twin Otter 300 aircraft has been deployed for these flights.  The artwork was originally created in February as a tribute to the warrior king on Shivaji Jayanti, 19 February. It stretches over 240,000 square feet on a six acre farm. It is the world’s biggest rangoli — an Indian artform of creating murals on the floor — of Shivaji.  Mangesh Nipanikar, the artist behind the innovation, has won a Guiness Book <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/mangesh-nipanikar-066a25106/?originalSubdomain=in">record </a>in 2015 for completing a rangoli that stood against farmer suicides — a troubling problem in Maharashtra where a large part of the population is involved in agriculture but has mounting debts to face. <ul><li>Dual asteroids are rare and even more infrequent when they are big in size.</li><li>Asteroid 467317 (2000 QW7) is as big as the Shanghai Tower — the second tallest building in the world.</li><li>The two asteroids are set to pass by Earth in the same 24-hour window on 14 September 2019.</li></ul>Two asteroids already whizzed past Earth this week and now, two more are set to fly by on 14 September 2019. But this time around, the pair will be bigger and faster — but also further away. The first asteroid, which will be bigger than the Empire State Building and India’s own Statue of Unity, is set to whiz past Earth at a speed of 23,000 kilometers per hou. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) estimates that the asteroid dubbed <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/The-10-biggest-asteroids-that-could-crash-into-Earth-in-2019/3467317-2000-QW7/slideshow/70686174.cms">467317 (2000 QW7)</a> could be anywhere between 290 meters to 650 meters in diameter. So, at its largest, the asteroid measures around the same size as the Shanghai Tower — the second tallest building in the world. And, it won’t be alone. In the same 24-hour window, Asteroid <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/The-10-biggest-asteroids-that-could-crash-into-Earth-in-2019/504800-2010-CO1/slideshow/70686170.cms">504800 (2010 CO1)</a>, estimated to be between 120 meters to 260 meters in diameter, will be flying past the planet at a speed of 51,696 kilometers per hour. Both them of them are going to be around 5.3 million kilometers from Earth as they make their visit. This is the second time in the span of a month that dual asteroids are whizzing past the planet. On 28 August 2019, two asteroids — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/two-asteroids-bigger-than-the-japan-tsunamis-are-coming-eerily-close-to-earth-today/articleshow/70870605.cms">2019 OU1 and 2019 QS</a>— flew past Earth within hours of each other. Don’t fear, but who’s gonna be there? NASA’s Center of Near Earth Object Studies is tracking both the asteroids and do not seem to pose any danger as of now. Should that change, NASA’s current defense plan against any incoming asteroids is the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) — which is still under development. Elon Musk, Founder and CEO of SpaceX, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/elon-musk-says-we-have-no-defence-against-asteroid-god-of-chaos/articleshow/70748251.cms">opines</a> that, “A big rock will eventually hit Earth eventually and we currently have no defence.” In June, astronomers have already shown that in case an asteroid poses a threat — then can move people out of harm’s away in time. When asteroid 2019 MO was barrelling towards Earth on 22 June 2019, scientists at the University of Hawaii used the ATLAS and Pan-STARRS telescopes to detect the asteroid’s path. They were able to confirm that the asteroid would burn up in the atmosphere, over the ocean, 400 kilometers away from San Juan. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/historys-most-famous-science-satellites-have-grown-to-enormous-proportions/articleshow/49279291.cms">ATLAS</a>, which is actually two telescopes in Hawaii — one on Big Island and the other on Maui — scans the skies every two days for asteroids that could be heading towards Earth. It claims to be able to detect small asteroids 12 hours in advance and bigger asteroids will be on their radar days before they’re anywhere near Earth. New Delhi, Jan 31 () The government has decided to invest more than Rs 100 lakh crore on building modern infrastructure in the country with a special emphasis on connectivity, President Ram Nath Kovind said on Friday.
 In a bid to improve connectivity, the government will also focus on creation of new highways, waterways, airways and I-ways (IT infrastructure), the President said addressing the joint sitting of both houses of Parliament, on the first day of the Budget session here.
 "The poor and the middle-class hope and aspire for a modern 21st century infrastructure in the country. To fulfil this aspiration of the people more than Rs 100 lakh crore will be invested in the next five years. With a special emphasis on connectivity, the government is also focusing on creation of new highways, new waterways, new airways, and new I-ways," the President said.
 Rapid progress is being made towards providing better public transport facilities in urban areas, Kovind said adding, metro facility has now been extended to 18 cities in the country.
 So far, 670-km of metro lines have been operationalised, and work on another 930-km is underway, he said and added the residents of Delhi and NCR have greatly benefitted from the construction of Delhi-Meerut Expressway, as well as from Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways.
 He further said inland waterways are also being developed by the government and in December 2019, for the first time, container cargo reached Pandu in Assam via National Water Way-2.
 Under the Jal Marg Vikas Project, the multi-modal terminal at Haldia on River Ganga and the navigation lock at Farakka will be completed this year, Kovind said adding, it is also our endeavour to operate large transport cargo vessels on River Ganga by next year.
 On air connectivity, he said about 35 lakh people have so far travelled by air under the UDAN scheme and last year, 335 new air routes have been approved.
 Rural roads contributed significantly to the country's infrastructure, he said and added 1.25 lakh kilometers road will be constructed and upgraded under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna.
 Rural roads have now been expanded to every corner of the country through the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana, he said adding third phase of the programme has been launched to strengthen rural roads and connect them to schools, hospitals and agricultural markets.
 On Noth East connectivity he said: "More than the physical distance of the North East from Delhi, it was the emotional disconnect that disheartened the people of the region. My Government has transformed this situation by working tirelessly during the last five years. Work is being done at an unprecedented pace in the North East to enhance connectivity, strengthen infrastructure and make people's lives easier."
 As a result of the government's efforts, he said by 2022, the capitals of Sikkim, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland will be connected with the rail network.
 "The work on Agartala-Akhaura rail link is also progressing at a fast pace. In the year 2022, the construction of the new airport being built at 'Holongi' in Arunachal Pradesh will also be completed," he added.
 The President said, during the last few years, there has been extraordinary development of infrastructure related to tourism.
 "Recently a nationwide programme has been launched from Kolkata for conservation and beautification of the heritage buildings of the country. The tourism sector is also being strengthened by the modern infrastructure being developed under Swadesh Darshan and PRASAD schemes. New records are being created every day in the number of tourists visiting the 'Statue of Unity', the statue of Sardar Patel; which is the tallest in the world," he emphasised.
