Modi government’s top secretaries took questions from the audience over the difficulties that <keyword id="6362513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startups">startups</keyword> in India face. Here’s what the esteemed panel comprising secretaries from the Revenue department, HRD, DEA, Science, BioTech, SIDBI, DEITY, MSME, <keyword id="35210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sebi">SEBI</keyword>, Corporate Affairs said they are already doing for the startup community: 
 
Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das: "In India launching a startup is like Abhimanyu entering in to Chakravyuha. India’s startup programme is a real gamechanger. We are very positive about StartupIndia and have something really nice in the package that we have to wait and watch out for. 
 
Amitabh Kant, DIPP : 1,000 patent examiners have been recruited. In 18 months our patent dependency levels will be same as the US &amp; Japan. 
 
Anup K. Pujari Secretary, MSME: We are increasing government requirement to procure from MSMEs. But have zero defects. 
 
K Shivaji, Chairman &amp; MD, SIDBI: We have been able to launch funds with the help of the government of India and RBI. SIDBI now has fund of funds. It’s called the India Aspiration Fund (Rs 2K Cr). You will be really glad to know that we are active across the startup lifecycle to help startups and investors alike. 
 
Vijay Raghavan, Secretary, Biotechnology: Startups should address domestic market; keep an eye on genomics and IP. 
To a pertinent question as to how it would be easy for a company to come here and get listed Tapan Ray, Corp. Affairs: We are linking various departments and looking forward to develop a system which will help register within 24 hrs.

Narendra Modi announces Mega #StartupIndia Policy!

It isn’t only startups who are leaving Vigyan Bhawan with happy faces. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Startup+investors">Startup investors</a> which include angel <keyword id="6359051" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="investors">investors</keyword>, venture capitalists have a wide smile on their faces. After all, PM Modi’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Startup+India">Startup India</a>, Standup India summit turned out to be a roaring success. 
 
“It’s a balanced approach. Not only looking at startups but also other stakeholders such as investors,” says Anil Joshi, managing partner, Unicorn India Ventures. 
 
He added that from an investor’s point of view, the fact that winding up of a startup could be done within 90 days is the cherry on the cake. “The USP of this event was the fact that as an investor, if a company is doing well, it’s a good news but if it doesn’t then, winding up becomes a tedious process. So, the fat that the government will now facilitate winding up within 90 days is a great news.” 
 
Apart from this, exempting Startups from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Startup+India">Capital Gain Tax</a> is a huge step towards boosting the ecosystem. As far as the startup corpus is concerned, this would require a detailed action plan. We are sure, as we progress, the government will sort out all of these. 
 
Sharing a similar sentiment, angel investor Manish Vij, founder and CEO of SVG Media notes that for the first time a government has extended such extensive support to the entrepreneurs. “This event had brought India to the center stage of global startup ecosystem. The government's action plan will inculcate the desire to become entrepreneurs among our youth throughout the nation. The start action plan addresses a lot of pain points of entrepreneurs and really thank the government for the same,” he says. 
 
However, on being questioned on no clarity with regards to disbursal of startup corpus, he says, “Sure there is no clarity at this stage as the PM only briefly mentioned about fund of funds, however we should look at the positive intent. Of course we do hope that the action plan is implemented.

<keyword id="3003094" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Startup-India">Startup India</keyword> hosts the women panel to celebrate stories of innovative women entrepreneurs in the country, a great step for the transforming startup ecosystem. But all the panelists agreed on one point that “Women need to be on panels, not just women entrepreneur panels”. 

	Women are transforming the startup industry but they want o be recognised as an achiever and not as a women achiever. While starting up a new venture and raising funds, the first question that comes to the apprehensive minds is whether the investors will entertain women entrepreneurs.
 “There are investors who don’t judge us being a women,” said Anisha Singh, co-founder of <keyword id="736994" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="mydala">mydala</keyword>. Sairee Chahal, founder of <keyword id="2589674" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="sheroes">Sheroes</keyword> said that though India produces the maximum women graduates in the world, they cannot make the right career choices due to the environment created around. 

	Narendra Modi has a lot to live up to. here’s what the women entrepreneurs expect from the government.
 

	1. Make the ecosystem transparent and curated.
 

	2. Create a more immersive ecosystem for women.
 

	3. Create active mentorship for women.
 

	4. Create more jobs for women.
 

	5. Create clarity on the structure. Most of them don’t know where to go for resources, how to get a loan etc. Create a simplified ecosystem.
 

	6. Digital opportunities are gender agnostic at present. Change it.
 

	7. “Make it startup every day from startup day”.

Efforts to seed entrepreneurial culture and supporting it through incubation set ups in universities should really propel product innovation. 
 
Government is looking to accentuate the Make in India and Make for India efforts. Plans to create 1000cr fund over next 4 yrs with incentive for tax capital gains to investors would really boost start - up risk appetite in the whole ecosystem. The government's initiative to fast track start-ups patent applications is a very beneficial move to encourage start-ups. In addition, 80% rebate on patent filing and prosecution deals will allow start-ups to file and create intellectual properties which in the long run will end up being additional sources of revenue. This will spur product innovations in the country and allow Indian product companies to compete globally. Other encouraging aspects of the plan include self certification on labour and environment for all Start-Ups to be up in three years.

“The Prime Minister’s announcement of the Startup Policy had quite a few important and measurable benefits that the startups can gain from. Most importantly, the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister outlined a change in the principle approach of the government towards the economy – that the government wants to stay away from deciding and directing on what needs to be done. Instead, the Government looks at a policy of arm’s length enablement. This stand is a bold new change in the government policy and disruptive in its own right. 
 
Venture debt was miserably missing in the ecosystem. Startups have only been used to equity as a mode of capital. GREX is completely poised to launch venture debt in a few weeks’ time. This will help our partner Banks and NBFCs walk the road along with us more aggressively as credits become guaranteed. 
 
Another big thing that was anticipated but not announced is the addressal of concerns around notional valuation gains to investors over and above the fair market value. It’s our work that should get noticed not our gender. However the change is need of time and to give this equality government has to encourage women entrepreneur. It’s good to see that certain provisions are made where there are funds allocations for women entrepreneur. Ecosystem is getting changed and allowing more women to work, which is a highlight of Start-Up India Initiative. Apart from this startup sector becoming unregulated will be better for the sector. Instead of looking at Singapore, we will now have our ecosystem in India. Hoping the budget session will further revolutionize the startups in India. Now the only concern will be 'Sell it India" that is a challenge that needs to be addressed next.<o:p></o:p>

 His company, <keyword id="163404" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Softbank">Softbank</keyword>, aims to invest at least $10 bn in India over the next year. “If I rescale, I will scale up. At least in the last one year, we have invested $2 bn. We would only accelerate.” 
 
On being asked about his quick-fix investments, he says, “We gave <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Alibaba">Alibaba</a> only 10 minutes time. It’s like love at first sight. But now we have Nikesh Arora...” 
 
So what does he look for before pumping in his money? Son chuckled and said that he looks for passion. “You know I was richer than Bill Gates, then our share price went down, I recovered by passion, passion…” 
 
Son is upbeat about the country’s future and noted that India could be bigger than China in a momentum in the next 10 years. “21st century belongs to India,” he says.

having a roaring love affair in India, and he’s in no hurry to move on!

Automaker <keyword id="19909974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="keywords">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> lndia has invested about Rs 1.99 crore in <keyword id="21061376" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="amlgo-labs-private-limited" source="keywords">Amlgo Labs Private Limited</keyword>, a technology-led startup. The startup operates in the area of data analytics, cloud engineering, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (Al), to assist companies in data driven decision making. With this, Maruti Suzuki will own an equity stake of over 6.44 per cent in the startup, the automaker informed stock exchanges on Saturday. The investment is being made through the Maruti Suzuki lnnovation Fund, an initiative to undertake strategic investments in startups which exhibit high levels of technological innovation. This is the second such investment by the company. Earlier, the company invested in <keyword id="21061374" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sociograph-solutions-private-limited" source="keywords">Sociograph Solutions Private Limited</keyword>, specialised in AI, in June 2022. "We have been working with startups since 2019, as a part of the Maruti Suzuki lnnovation Program. Aligned with the government's Start Up India initiative, we are actively working to help strengthen the startup ecosystem and encourage innovation to develop solutions relevant to the automobile industry," HisashiTakeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India. "Our investment in Amlgo Labs Private Limited will help us to further strengthen quality of new models, using advanced analytics and machine learning," Takeuchi added.
