Other players in the fray include French railway major Alstom; Medha-Stadler consortium between Swiss railway rolling stock manufacturer <keyword id="6793633" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="stadler-rail" source="Orion">Stadler Rail</keyword> and Hyderabad-based Media Servo Drives; Siemens along with BEML, and Russian rolling stock manufacturer <keyword id="6632056" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="transmashholding" source="Orion">Transmashholding</keyword> (TMH) along with an Indian firm. Officials said while ₹ 26,000 crore is the upfront payment on the delivery of the trains, ₹ 32,000 crore will be paid to the winning bidder over a period of 35 years for the maintenance of these trains. The <keyword id="6355455" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-railways" source="Orion">Indian Railways</keyword> is now evaluating technical bids for the contract. The financial bids will be opened in the next 45 days. According to the tender document, the successful bidder has to produce a prototype of the sleeper class for Vande Bharat trains within 24 months. The Indian Railways is targeting to roll out the first sleeper version of Vande Bharat train by the first quarter of 2024. Till now, the railways has awarded contracts for manufacture of 102 Vande Bharat trains which are all chair car. The Vande Bharat trains are expected to be a big upgrade from the premium Rajdhani Express service. The sleeper class-version of these trains will be run on the routes to cover overnight rail journey like New Delhi-Patna, New Delhi-Lucknow and others. After four years of intensive work and planning, country's first and the second Vande Bharat trains as electric multiple units at semi-high speed, were flagged off by Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="Orion">Narendra Modi</keyword> in 2019 on the New Delhi-Varanasi and New Delhi-Katra in J&amp;K routes. The first VB train was flagged on the New Delhi-Varanasi route and the second one was on New Dehi-Katra route to provide fast rail transportation from the national capital to these pilgrim cities. The railway ministry is also working towards exporting these trains by 2026 to cover the international markets of South Africa and European countries. BHEL among 5 bidders for Rs 58,000 cr deal to manufacture, maintain 200 Vande Bharat trains

Hyderabad, India's largest private <keyword id="6520019" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rail-coach-factory" source="Orion">rail coach factory</keyword> was inaugurated at Kondakal village in Rangareddy district near Hyderabad on Thursday. Chief Minister K. Chandrsekhar Rao inaugurated the facility built by Medha Servo Drives Private Limited, a <keyword id="68884" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="telangana" source="Orion">Telangana</keyword> company which designs and manufactures complex electrical and electronic <keyword id="6356740" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="railway" source="Orion">Railway</keyword> products. The Chief Minister said Telangana was proud that a home grown company will be building <keyword id="6366234" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rail" source="Orion">rail</keyword> coaches in the state. He expressed happiness over the company bagging Mono rail order from Mumbai. As part of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014, Telangana was promised a Rail Coach Factory within six months of its formation. However, despite repeated appeals by the state government, this did not become a reality. In 2017, Medha Group had signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) to establish a private rail coach factory. It was on August 13, 2020 that Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao had laid the foundation stone for the factory. It was then announced that with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, the private rail coach factory will have a production capacity of 500 coaches and 50 locomotives per year. Spread over 100 acres, the factory will develop all types of railway rolling stock including coaches, train sets, locomotives, Metro trains and Monorails. Medha Managing Director Kasyap Reddy told the inaugural ceremony that about Rs 400 crore have been invested in the first phase. The proposed investment for the project is Rs 805 crore. He said 558 people have already been employed and an additional 500 people have benefited indirectly. An additional employment of around 1,000 people will be made in the near future. He announced that by the end of this year, total coach manufacturing for Monorail project will happen at the facility. "With second and third phases of the project, we plan to manufacture Railway products not just for India but the world," he said. Medha claims to be the only Indian company that has in-house R&amp;D facilities. It is also currently manufacturing bogies for the Indian <keyword id="6360676" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="railways" source="Orion">Railways</keyword> and will soon commence manufacturing of the complete Mumbai Monorail train sets. Medha also owns various subsidiary companies including in Spain, Italy, USA, Brazil and Poland for serving Railway customers across the world. Medha Servo Drives has also signed a joint venture (JV) agreement with Swiss railway rolling stock manufacturer Stadler Rail for a new rail coach manufacturing factory in Telangana. Stadler, headquartered in Bussnang, Switzerland, has been building rail vehicles for over 80 years. It has been manufacturing railway rolling stock and has a dominant market share across the global railway market. The Joint Venture will use the proposed Telangana Unit to cater to its tenders from the Indian market and exports from customers across the Asia Pacific region Medha was established in 1984 and has been supplying various products to Railways since 1990. It is the largest propulsion equipment (Electronics) supplier to Indian Railways. It is also the largest traction motor manufacturer for Railways and also largest Indian company supplying advanced signaling and safety systems The company has an annual turnover of Rs 2,500 crore and has employed about 5,000 people. Kasyap Reddy said Medha was also bringing innovative technologies to India in areas like solar inverters, propulsion system for battery electric vehicles and canal automation systems. It also made foray into defence manufacturing by signing a MoU to develop large propulsion motors for the Indian Navy. TSIIC has also allotted 25 acres of land at E-City to Medha for the manufacture of Solar PV Inverters. Medha will be investing Rs 80 crore in two phases and will be creating employment of 210 people across both phases. India's largest private rail coach factory opens in Telangana

The Indian Government is planning massive changes in transportation sector and adding a dash of tech to it. Government’s think-tank <keyword id="2665691" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Niti-Aayog">Niti Aayog</keyword> has approved six proposals for high-tech public transport, which will improve travel experience. The transport ministry has constituted a six-member committee which will be headed by a former top official of Railways. The committee will study safety parameters associated with these technologies and global practices. "These new technologies are path breaking and can alter the way of intercity travel in the country. Since we don't have any such thing in India, we need to know the global safety standards and ensure that these technology companies are following it. Even for the pilot project, passenger safety is paramount,” a senior transport ministry official told ET. As part of the plan, six major technologies such as metrino, stadler buses, hyperloop, pod taxis, hybrid buses and freight rail road will be tested in India. "Something like metrino (pod taxis) is almost one tenth of the cost of the metro, so there's a cost advantage as well. However, technologies such as hyperloop can take some time but we would like them to come to India,” the official told ET.

To a certain type of business person, "Atlas Shrugged," <keyword id="115232" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ayn-Rand">Ayn Rand</keyword>'s behemoth novel about the mysterious John Galt, is something of a holy text.
PayPal co-founder and early Facebook investor Peter Thiel <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/18/peter-thiel-seasteading_n_930595.html">counts it as inspiration.</a> Lululemon founder <a href="http://www.npr.org/2011/11/17/142472057/lululemon-customers-asked-who-is-john-galt">Chip Wilson is also a big fan</a>; the company got significant flack for printing the phrase "Who is John Galt" on its bags. <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/mike-debonis/post/uber-ceo-travis-kalanick-talks-big-growth-and-regulatory-roadblocks-in-dc/2012/07/27/gJQAAmS4DX_blog.html">Uber CEO Travis Kalanick</a> is a Rand devotee as well, at one point using the cover of "The Fountainhead" as his Twitter avatar.
Given their success, these businessmen must rely on the book as more of a personal narrative than for many of their business decisions. Because, for a novel that's at least partially about business, "Atlas Shrugged" offers some really bad business advice. There are good points, like the idea that successful businesses have to pick the best and most efficient partners over friends and that competition is usually a good thing, but there are lots of very bad ones.
We've picked out a few of the most famous quotes, passages, and ideas that could lead would-be devotees astray.
Favoring the gold standard
"Atlas Shrugged" is particularly popular among people, including some politicians, who object to the way monetary policy is currently conducted and favor a return to the gold standard or "hard money."
They often point to one passage in particular - copper titan Francisco D'Anconia's famous "money" speech. Here's one part of the 23-paragraph monologue:
"Whenever destroyers appear among men, they start by destroying money, for money is men's protection and the base of a moral existence. Destroyers seize gold and leave to its owners a counterfeit pile of paper. This kills all objective standards and delivers men into the arbitrary power of an arbitrary setter of values. Gold was an objective value, an equivalent of wealth produced. Paper is a mortgage on wealth that does not exist, backed by a gun aimed at those who are expected to produce it. Paper is a check drawn by legal looters upon an account which is not theirs; upon the virtue of the victims. Watch for the day when it becomes marked: 'Account overdrawn.'"
The idea that the gold standard is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/why-the-gold-standard-is-the-worst-idea-in-the-world-in-one-chart-2012-9">more stable or objective is wrong.</a> It's actually quite unstable and was definitely bad for business. The current actions of the Federal Reserve, many of them only possible in the absence of the gold standard, helped save the country from economic collapse and support the economy as it continues to grow.

Advocating a return to hard money is terrible business advice, because it's not only unproductive and wildly unlikely but would also bring back the huge fluctuations in inflation that modern monetary policy <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/700-years-of-data-in-12-must-see-charts-2013-10">has managed to largely end in the Western world. </a>
Believing people who succeed are inherently superior, and often victims
The book portrays people who own and succeed in a business as being some combination of fortunate and brilliant, and above the rest. But having made a lot of money doesn't make you inherently superior to other people. That's an attitude that can very easily lose you friends, customers, and the goodwill of your employees.
Work hard, enjoy what you earn, and if people criticize you for being greedy, prove them wrong or bear it with grace. But don't make pronouncements about your superiority and the inferiority of anybody who hasn't made it to the top. Helping people achieve instead of looking down on them is true leadership.
A conversation between the book's protagonist, Dagny Taggart, and Dr. Robert Stadler illustrates the attitude Rand holds up as a good thing:
"Miss Taggart, do you know the hallmark of the second-rater? It's resentment of another man's achievement. Those touchy mediocrities who sit trembling lest someone's work prove greater than their own - they have no inkling of the loneliness that comes when you reach the top. The loneliness for an equal - for a mind to respect and an achievement to admire. They bare their teeth at you from out of their rat holes, thinking that you take pleasure in letting your brilliance dim them - while you'd give a year of your life to see a flicker of talent anywhere among them. They envy achievement, and their dream of greatness is a world where all men have become their acknowledged inferiors. They don't know that that dream is the infallible proof of mediocrity, because that sort of world is what the man of achievement would not be able to bear."
Any leader with the mindset described there is probably going to stay pretty lonely.
Suggesting people can and should be motivated only by money or trade
Rand's portrait of an ideal society of sorts is one where the word "give" is banned.
The book espouses the idea that people can only be motivated when they give something in return for something else, usually labor or money. That's an idea that research and reality frequently prove wrong. Many people are motivated by money, but many others are better motivated by doing something they think is worthwhile or by helping people.
Employees and customers are going to be of both types, and any business owner who can't understand or acknowledge that is going to end up losing out on talent.
Viewing customers with contempt
At one point, copper titan Francisco D'Anconia asks steel magnate Hank Reardon if he wants to see a railroad he helped build used by his "intellectual equals," or even the less intelligent people who at least work hard. Reardon is fine with that.
Then he asks Reardon if he wants to see it used "by whining rotters who never rouse themselves to any effort, who do not possess the ability of a filing clerk, but demand the income of a company president, who drift from failure to failure and expect you to pay their bills, who hold their wishing as an equivalent of your work and their need as a higher claim to reward than your effort, who demand that you serve them ..."
The passage continues for a bit, and Reardon responds: "I'd blast that rail first."
The "whining" person D'Anconia describes, he says "is any man who proclaims his right to a single penny of another man's effort."
Obviously, that's dramatized. But it reflects an idea that anyone who takes assistance is somehow contemptible and is someone people in business should strenuously avoid.
Viewing the government as a pure antagonist
Government, as portrayed in "Atlas Shrugged," is a caricature, existing pretty much exclusively to demonize and take from more successful people.
But the foundation of any business' success is infrastructure, property laws, and particularly intellectual property laws.
Government provides all of that and a whole lot more. Businesspeople might be irritated by some of what government does, but they'd be a lot worse off without it.
