US economy's fate hangs on jobs report as Fed decides how deep cuts will go

"UWW will also discuss the suggestion at an appropriate platform but it could not be done retrospectively," the world body said in a statement late on Wednesday after its President Nenad Lalovic met IOA chief P T Usha. Vinesh had scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the gold medal bout in her category on Tuesday night. It will help them handle tough bankruptcy cases within a short time.</li></ul>India has a huge, emerging sector for helping distressed and bankrupt companies come out of financial difficulty. But it faces a huge shortage of bankruptcy professionals who can oversee the process. To make up for the lack, the Indian government is reportedly launching a fresh academic course — <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/want-to-graduate-in-insolvency-heres-how-you-can/articleshow/67534863.cms">Graduate Insolvency Program</a> — which will help train a new crop of insolvency professionals. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) will likely launch the program in first week of February. It will allow fresh candidates to take up Insolvency profession while presently hirings happen from the lot having at least 10-15 years of experience. The 27- month program aims to train nearly 45 such professionals annually. India introduced a new bankruptcy law, the <keyword id="6354456" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Insolvency-and-Bankruptcy-Code">Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code</keyword> (<keyword id="192838" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IBC">IBC</keyword>), two years ago — which was seen as a landmark law to help several banks resolve a huge pile of bad debt from under-performing or stressed companies. The new rules gave recourse to both the company’s promoters and creditors. How will the course benefit insolvency professionals? As of 2017, the country had nearly <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/jobs/jobs-how-will-graduates-gain-from-insolvency/articleshow/59850758.cms">600-700 insolvency professionals</a>, according to Mamta Binani, former president of Institute of Company Secretaries of India. While according to a senior official from ICAI, certified training programs have the capacity to create thousands of job opportunities. That is because, India’s National Company Law Tribunals have been flooded with hundreds of such cases that will need insolvency professionals for primary operations. Who will be eligible? The graduate insolvency program will be outsourced from prominent Indian institutions, and operate in sync with regulators. It will admit candidates from varied backgrounds from chartered accountants, post graduates in economics, finance, management, commerce, cost accountants, company secretaries and law graduates. However, there will be a minimum bar to qualify the elimination exam, just as for the Common Admission Test (CAT). Foreign nationals will also be eligible to take up the course — along with a reservation quota of five seats. The Indian government hopes the course will be added help for professionals already working on bankruptcy to solve the cases more efficiently. It will also give the professionals domestic and international exposure in the field through internships. The overall cost for the graduate program is yet to be declared. However, it is <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/economy-politics/alert-for-cas-law-students-check-out-new-graduation-course-on-bad-loans/story/310221.html">expected to cost </a>between ₹700,000 to ₹1,000,000. India has tried to groom insolvency professionals earlier as well. The German automaker has unveiled two <keyword id="662112" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-bikes">electric bikes</keyword>, alongside the global debut of the Porsche Taycan <keyword id="6371186" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="cross">Cross</keyword> Turismo. The <keyword id="10870767" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="porsche-ebike-sport">Porsche eBike Sport</keyword> is priced at $10,700, while the "cheaper" Porsche eBike Cross costs $8,549. Both the bikes will be up for grabs from spring 2021. The e-bikes are dubbed Porsche Sport and Porsche Cross electric bikes, designed for different usage scenarios. "While the Porsche Sport is a <keyword id="10883776" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="regular-road-bike">regular road bike</keyword> for everyday use, the Cross is an off-road bike", reports <keyword id="2666663" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gizmochina">GizmoChina</keyword>. The Porsche eBike Sport is equipped with a new Shimano EP8 motor, which provides motor support up to 25 km/hour (about 15 miles per hour), a Shimano electronic gear shifting system and Magura high-performance brakes that are integrated into the handlebars, according to the report. The Sport bike also has M99 LED lights from Supernova, which are embedded in the handlebar stem and aerodynamic seat post. The Porsche eBike Cross has a new motor developed by Shimano, Magura-MT Trail high-performance brakes with extra-large, heat-resistant brake discs for deceleration. The Cross is more for off-roading adventures, the report said. However, while policymakers are busy dismissing the data pointed out by critics, a sitting duck opportunity to silence--at least a quarter of a million people--is going to waste. A Right-to-Information (RTI) query has shown that the Indian Railways had 2.66 lakh vacant jobs in Group C and Group D posts as of November 2018, according to a <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/railways/railways-fails-on-job-front-reveals-an-rti-reply/articleshow/67610421.cms">report</a>. But the most recent recruitment drive by the government is looking to hire less than half of the existing vacancies. Group C employees at the Indian railways hold posts that include senior section engineers, locomotive pilots, ticket booking clerks, train ticket examiners, station masters etc. Group D positions include that of helper, gangman, trackman, welder, fitter and porter among others. Over the last 10 years, not only has the employee strength shrunk, but the reduction in lower level jobs has been jaw-dropping. While the total number of jobs at the Indian Railways went down 5% between 2008-09 and 2016-17, the number of Group D jobs were reduced to a sixth of their level nine years ago.

 Indian Railways is among the world’s largest employers. With lack of private opportunity for job seekers, the state-owned Railways has emerged as a much sought-after employer for millions of Indians. More than 25 million people applied for just 90,000 posts in March last, according to a Reuters <a href="https://in.reuters.com/article/india-unemployment-railways/more-than-25-million-people-apply-for-indian-railway-vacancies-idINKBN1H523A">report</a>. The fact is that both BJP and its rival Congress have been responsible for cutting jobs at the bottom of the Railways’ organisational pyramid. However, the pressure is always more on the incumbent government to improve the state of the economy and to create jobs. Modi opponents have been strengthened by the lack of jobs in the Indian economy. To shut his rivals, the Indian prime minister has brought in reservations in government jobs for the poor, over and above the existing caste-based quotas for those in the margins of the Indian society. While the politics took centre stage, the government has missed the available opportunities to serve both the poor and the socially oppressed sections of the society. Aside from the deep cuts in Group D jobs and the piling up vacancies in the railways, the central government departments including state-owned companies had 28,713 unfilled positions reserved for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward castes as of January 2017, according to a <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/ministries-told-to-fill-up-backlog-reserved-vacancies-through-special-drive-1961756">report</a>. These numbers will be significant in determining voter sentiment going into the elections in May 2018.
