It’s a <a href="https://www.spinlaunch.com/suborbital#p1" data-type="tilCustomLink">suborbital accelerator</a> that’s even taller than the Statue of Liberty and looks like a giant-sized rolling tape. What happens inside is electric-powered kinetic energy spinning the rocket and flinging it up to orbit. This will be different from the traditional way of launching fuel-based rockets vertically, and it’s also said to be a less expensive and environmentally sustainable alternative, according to SpinLaunch. The company successfully demonstrated its first prototype of its suborbital accelerator last month near Spaceport America in New Mexico. How does it work The suborbital accelerator features the largest span vacuum chamber inside which there’s a massive rotating arm that uses kinetic energy to spin the rocket several times the speed of sound and then lets go of it so the projectile is flung into the air, according to a <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/09/spinlaunch-completes-first-test-flight-of-alternative-rocket.html">report</a> by CNBC. At its first launch, SpinLaunch said the suborbital accelerator successfully propelled a test vehicle at supersonic speeds. This prototype used only around 20% of the accelerator’s power and touched an altitude of tens of thousands of feet, the report added. Only a testbed The suborbital accelerator is only a test-bed for the final product, the <keyword id="12510763" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="orbital-launch-system" source="Orion">Orbital Launch System</keyword>. The company plans on conducting regular test flights with a variety of vehicles and different launch vehicles throughout 2022. It plans to conduct around 30 suborbital test flights from Spaceport America. As for the final Orbital Launch System, it is still in the works and there’s no confirmed launch timeline for it yet. This space startup wants to slingshot rockets into orbit

NASA collaborates with SpinLaunch to test an innovative mass accelerator launch system — a slingshot to send payloads to space

Now, researchers at Stanford University have created a smart band-aid that uses electrical currents to heal wounds 25 percent faster than traditional methods by stimulating tissue to speed up the recovery process. The researchers say in a published <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41587-022-01528-3">paper</a> that their smart band-aid promotes faster closure of wounds, increases the blood flow to injured tissue, and enhances skin recovery by stimulating electric current to the wound. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Combating infection with electrical stimulation" comment="subhead" text="Combating infection with electrical stimulation">Combating infection with electrical stimulation</cmsannotation> Electrical stimulation, also known as galvanotaxis, has been previously reported to accelerate the migration of keratinocytes to the wound site, which limits bacterial infection and actively promotes tissue growth, and contributes to tissue repair. <div type="image" title="‘Smart’ bandage" msid="97274260" hostid="261"></div> This smart bandage comprises of electronic layer, including a microcontroller unit, electrical stimulator, memory, radio antenna, biosensors, and other components. It is just 100 microns thick. All these components are cleverly engineered in hydrogel - a rubber and skin-like polymer. All the components are integrated to deliver electrical stimulation to the wound and collect real-time biosensor data, such as skin temperature and biophysical changes. It allows researchers to track the data in real time on a smartphone without the need for wires. When the bandage is applied to the wound, it detects the infection, and sensors in the smart bandage deliver electrical stimulation across the wound area to speed up tissue recovery and lower the infection. Bandage’s biosensing capabilities monitor biophysical changes and sense temperature changes in the skin as the wound heals. “With stimulation and sensing in one device, the smart bandage speeds healing, but it also keeps track as the wound is improving,” says Artem Trotsyuk, a co-first author of the study. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Positive results and new directions" comment="subhead" text="Positive results and new directions">Positive results and new directions</cmsannotation> The researchers said, “In mice, we demonstrate that our wound care system can continuously monitor skin impedance and temperature and deliver electrical stimulation in response to the wound environment.” In preclinical wound models with mice, the wound healed about 25% faster than the traditional method. Researchers now believe electrical stimulation heals wounds faster, and it also promotes the activation of pro-regenerative genes like ‘Selenop,’ an anti-inflammatory gene that contributes to wound repair, and ‘Apoe,’ which has been shown to increase muscle and soft tissue growth. Scientists also found that electrical stimulation increases the white blood cell population, namely macrophages and monocytes. Researchers at Stanford University caution that the smart bandage is, as yet, a proof of concept but a promising one. According to them, many challenges remain; these include the size of the device to human scale, solving long-term data storage, reducing cost, and scaling up to mass production. Despite these hurdles, the researchers are pushing ahead and are optimistic about the potential of smart bandages. Secondly, investors will be looking for fiscal consolidation which is necessary for financial stability in the economy and thirdly, investors are contemplating policy reforms to rationalise bottlenecks for growth such as subsidies, a clear roadmap for disinvestment targets and expediting the much-awaited PSU privatisation or consolidation, he added. History suggests India's shares are likely to see muted trading ahead of the union budget reading, usually held on February 1. Overall, the pre-budget rallies were seen in six out of the last 10 years, and post-budget, the market declined six times out of the past 10 years. Moreover, the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) benchmark index Nifty 50 has fallen seven times on Budget days. The Budget is a presentation of the state of affairs of the government's books along with anticipated expenses and income for the coming year. As per the minister, the mission was delayed as the astronauts could not be trained in Russia after the outbreak of the pandemic. According to ISRO, the Gaganyaan programme will lay the foundation for a sustained Indian human space exploration programme in the long run. Also, the objective of this mission is to demonstrate the indigenous capability to undertake human space flight. Other than these, Gaganyaan will have both tangible and intangible benefits for India, including a step toward an affordable and sustained human and robotic programme to explore space and beyond. The design and development of the HS200 booster is completed at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, and propellant casting was completed at Sriharikota. This human space flight is expected to take about 16 minutes to reach the intended orbit. The space suits are created by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. For the training of astronauts, ISRO and Russian government-owned Glavkosmos signed a contract for training. Further, there are some major collaborating partners for Gaganyaan like Indian Armed Forces, Defence Research Development organisation, Indian maritime agencies, Indian Meteorological Department, CSIR Labs, and more.
