Here’s how to do web check-in for IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara and GoAir

But, the seats will be assigned as per the availability. </li><li>The revised policy has been effective since 14 November and the seats will be charged according to flyer preferences, starting from ₹100 to ₹800. </li><li><keyword id="149609" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Civil-Aviation">Ministry of Civil Aviation</keyword> (MoCA) said that the charges will be reviewed under the pricing framework.</li></ul>The Indian government has said it will review the new charges for online check-ins announced by the country’s budget airlines IndiGo and Spicejet following social media complaints by several flyers.  Earlier, in case of web check -ins, the airlines charged extra only for certain seats such as the ones along the aisle, window-facing or the seats with additional legroom. The charges for lowest seats in IndiGo and Spicejet are ₹100 and ₹99, respectively. IndiGo <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/business/indigo-to-charge-for-web-check-in-of-all-seats#gs.npT1Cys">reportedly</a> said that the revised policy has been effective since 14 November and the seats will be charged according to the flyer preferences, starting from ₹100 to ₹800. According to the revised policy, a first row seat will be charged ₹800 extra, while a non-reclining seat next to the emergency exit will cost ₹600 more and a middle seat in the last row will cost an additional ₹100 if booked online. IndiGo said that the changes have been inline with the consumer preferences, for the advanced selection of seats. Indian government to review IndiGo, Spicejet policies to charge for web check-in after flyers protest

Airlines in India have been struggling of late because of higher fuel prices and rising operational costs, prompting many airlines to look at ways to cut costs or increase revenue. Indian Railways appears to be increasingly capitalising on the opportunity to woo airline passengers. Indian Railways had the best response to budget airlines in India charging for online check-ins

Business Insider reached out to Komal Nathani, whose tickets were cancelled from Mumbai to Kanpur. IndiGo too faced a similar brunt from consumers across the country. IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta in an interview to PTI said that the government should allow flights to operate at 50% of pre-covid times right now, while being hopeful of running 70% of flights by December. Dutta also believes that the government should resume international flights by July. India's airlines are cancelling tickets across the country citing government restrictions - and that's not the worst part

<ul><li>On June 12, I took a flight from Delhi to Bhubaneswar and saw a stark difference in the way the two <keyword id="43661" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="airports">airports</keyword> function. </li><li>Here’s all you need to know about taking a domestic flight within India.</li><li>Airports and flying look very different from what they were in the pre-covid era.</li></ul>Flying in India is now just like your parents wanted. If you, like me, made fun of their “reach airport three hours before flights” philosophy and reached the airport right before check in closes every single time, well, think again. As domestic flights in India are operational again, bookings have gone up as many salaried Indians, stuck in different cities because of their jobs, are now going to their hometowns as work from home continues or vice versa. A tale of two cities and their airports On June 12, I took a flight from Delhi to Bhubaneswar. Delhi, which has one of the largest <keyword id="457471" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airports-in-India">airports in India</keyword>, is currently operational only from the T3 terminal. There are multiple flights operational and there’s actually a rush at the airport. Having said that, while authorities are trying to maintain social distancing, confused passengers end up forgetting all about it. On the other hand, the Bhubaneswar airport, a much much smaller airport compared to Delhi, is operating at one flight at a time, which has probably helped the authorities be much more efficient. One can just walk from the flight to the airport entrance and several authorities are lined up separating people to ensure distance. It's best to wear comfortable clothes and sneakers as there will be a lot of walking, and waiting, and it’s better to avoid taking support of railings or chairs. At the <keyword id="47045" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Airport">Delhi airport</keyword>, expect a long queue outside every gate. Each airline has designated gates. Social distancing is totally absent even though airport authorities are trying their best. Next up is the queue for baggage drop. Security personnel, for their own safety, have been asked to not touch the bags of consumers. Once at the boarding gate, the airlines will distribute a kit which includes a mask, face shield, and sanitizer sachets. Depending on the arrival state, passengers have to register on the state portal announcing their arrival and be on a mandatory home quarantine for 14 days. The tale of two airports – Here’s what taking a flight in India looks like right now

(Photo Source: wikipedia.org) <ul><li>Indian consumer forum has asked the budget carrier, <keyword id="6354706" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IndiGo">IndiGo</keyword>, to pay ₹25,000 ($348) as compensation for cancelling a passenger’s flight minutes before the departure in 2016. </li><li>A jury found no genuine reason for the airline to refuse the passenger from boarding, and ordered the airline to also revert the charges for the original ticket and the alternate ticket amounting to ₹9,729 in total. </li><li>Last year, over 512,000 domestic passengers in India faced inconvenience due to cancellations in the first four months of the year alone.</li></ul>Two years after IndiGo Airlines reportedly refused a male passenger from boarding a flight from Hyderabad to Chennai despite clearing all essential security checks, a district consumer forum has now asked the budget carrier to refund the total flight costs along with a compensation of ₹25,000, Times of India <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/hyderabad/indigo-ordered-to-pay-flyer-rs-25000-for-refusing-boarding/articleshow/67008781.cms?UTM_Source=Google_Newsstand&amp;UTM_Campaign=RSS_Feed&amp;UTM_Medium=Referral&amp;from=mdr">reported</a>. Looking through the complaint, the consumer forum said that they found no genuine reason for denying the passenger boarding. The forum claimed that the complainant, could only manage to be at the boarding gate after the gates were closed. Kumar, the complainant had to reportedly take an alternate flight on his own, and lodged complaints about the incident. IndiGo, on the other hand, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/hyderabad/indigo-ordered-to-pay-flyer-rs-25000-for-refusing-boarding/articleshow/67008781.cms?UTM_Source=Google_Newsstand&amp;UTM_Campaign=RSS_Feed&amp;UTM_Medium=Referral&amp;from=mdr">reportedly</a> had sought to have the case dismissed over a technicality — that it was filed against IndiGo and not InterGlobe Aviation — its registered name. The decision is significant as India’s <keyword id="6368649" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="civil-aviation">civil aviation</keyword> authorities appear to be taking note and acting on flyer complaints about unwarranted cancellations. In 2016, Indian civil aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), issued <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/airlines-/-aviation/airlines-to-pay-huge-compensation-for-flight-cancellation-or-denying-boarding-to-flier/articleshow/53254485.cms">guidelines</a> on cancellation and denying boarding by airlines saying that the airlines will have to provide compensation to the flyer in such cases. According to the norms then formulated, airlines are supposed to pay a compensation of up to ₹20,000 in case of refused boarding while for a cancelled or delayed flight, the airline is bound to pay up to ₹10,000 to the flyer. Last year, over 512,000 domestic passengers in India faced inconvenience due to cancellations and refused boarding with airlines, <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/wealth/personal-finance-news/what-are-your-rights-when-flying/articleshow/59080161.cms">according to</a> DGCA stats for first four month of the year. <ul><li>According to data from the Directorate General of Civil <keyword id="31907" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aviation">Aviation</keyword> (DGCA), Indian passengers have taken more international flights than domestic, with the rate of growth for overseas travel at 12.8% in November. </li><li>This is for the first time in over a year that the number of international passengers surpassed domestic ones. </li><li>The report has also shown that the domestic airlines recorded 786 passenger related complaints with <keyword id="2573" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-India">Air India</keyword> having the maximum share at 247.</li></ul>India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently revealed numbers on air traffic — domestic and international for the month of November. According to the stats, for the month of November, Indian passengers took more international flights than domestic. This is for the first time in 15 months that the number of international passengers surpassed domestic ones, with international passenger traffic growing by <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/charts/overseas-air-travel-outpaces-domestic-traffic-first-time-in-15-months">12.8%</a> compared to previous month. On the other hand, <a href="http://dgca.nic.in/reports/Traffic-ind.htm">domestic air passenger traffic</a> rose by nearly 11% for the month compared to previous month accounting to 11.64 million, which was the lowest over the last four years. For the eleven months until November, the domestic airlines registered a year-on-year growth of 19.21%. Overall, the domestic air passenger traffic was the lowest in the fourth quarter in 2018. Airlines in India have been pushing consumer-friendly app bookings and various discounts on their domestic and international flights to attract flyers. The DGCA report also highlighted cancellations and delays pertaining to the number of passengers booking air travel in India. The state-owned national carrier Air India made maximum number of cancellations on domestic routes at 2.74% while <keyword id="2467342" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vistara">Vistara</keyword> made the least number of cancellations at the rate of 0.15%. India’s domestic airlines recorded 786 passenger-related complaints, with Air India seeing the maximum share at 247, said the report.
