Accordingly, it pointed out that on a YoY basis, <keyword id="6354706" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IndiGo">IndiGo</keyword> is up by 29% (outperforming Nifty by 16%), while <keyword id="6358032" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SpiceJet">SpiceJet</keyword> is up mere by 2% YoY. "IndiGo stock has risen on the back of Covid-19 vaccine optimism and gains in market share; SpiceJet was further supported by the re-licensing of the Boeing 737 MAX," the report said. "The outlook for the sector remains 'Neutral'." According to the report, optimism over the vaccine could certainly result in increased flying confidence, leading to the quicker normalisation of operations versus earlier estimates. Besides, it said a rise in the number of unique city pairs has resulted in huge growth in the international market over the last two years. However, the Covid disruption has resulted in a significant reduction in such city pairs (down by 67% YoY). "Thus, we believe international travel is likely to take longer to recover, with confidence likely to first improve in intracontinental flying (v/s intercontinental flying)." Furthermore, it cited that India has a huge order book of more than 500 planes coming in over the next 3-4 years. "And, with domestic air travel demand extremely elastic to railway journeys, airlines would have to compete on fares to fill their seats," "Earnings could see a drastic impact on currently enjoyed higher yields if fare bands are removed and competition prickles in." In addition, it said revival in economic activity, any spike in crude oil prices from current levels would directly impact the earnings of airline companies. "If crude oil prices climb up, along with yields declining from current levels, it would lead to a double whammy impact on the stocks - which are currently trending at expensive valuations." Indian aviation stocks up by 34-107% in the last three months, says report

<keyword id="6358032" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="spicejet" source="Orion">SpiceJet</keyword>, which is facing headwinds, on Wednesday reported widening of net loss to Rs 789 crore in the June quarter as high fuel prices and rupee depreciation adversely impacted the budget carrier. Amid the financial turmoil, the airline plans to raise USD 200 million, which is around Rs 1,600 crore at current exchange rates and expects to complete the hiving-off of its profitable cargo business into a separate company in the current quarter. In continuing woes for the carrier, aviation watchdog DGCA on Wednesday deregistered two more <keyword id="6357957" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="boeing" source="Orion">Boeing</keyword> 737 planes of SpiceJet, following non-payment of dues to lessors. With the latest deregistration, a total of six Boeing 737 aircraft of the budget carrier have been deregistered in August. The crisis-hit airline has also delayed payment of salaries to staff for the second straight month. However, SpiceJet said it has started crediting salaries from today and like the previous month, "salary will be credited in a graded format". Moreover, in the independent auditor's review report of the airline's latest quarterly results, it has been mentioned that there are indications of material uncertainties "that may cast significant doubt about the group's ability to continue as a going concern". On Wednesday, the airline also said that its Chief Financial Officer Sanjeev Taneja has resigned. The low-cost carrier had a net loss of Rs 729 crore in the quarter ended June 2021. In the latest June quarter, the net loss is Rs 420 crore, excluding forex adjustment. "Total revenue for the reported quarter was Rs 2,478 crore as against Rs 1,266 crore, a year-on-year growth of 126 per cent, in the same quarter of the previous year," the airline said in a release. The airline, which had delayed its March quarter and FY2022 earnings, saw its net loss widen to Rs 458 crore in the 2022 March quarter from Rs 235.3 crore in the year-ago period. For the full fiscal year 2021-22, the net loss surged 73 per cent to Rs 1,725 crore from Rs 998.30 crore in the comparable period. According to the airline, business was severely impacted by the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic and high fuel prices in the March quarter. SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director <keyword id="6357826" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ajay-singh" source="Orion">Ajay Singh</keyword> said the industry has been witness to one of the most severe operating environment in the recent past, which impacted the progress and recovery made in the third quarter of FY2022. In the June quarter, jet fuel prices rose 105 per cent on a year-on-year basis and 40 per cent on a sequential basis, the airline said. "We are optimistic about our future and our continued recovery and in order to achieve our future plans, the board has mandated fresh capital issuance and the company will be shortly engaging with investment bankers for a potential raise of up to USD 200 million," he said. The airline's cargo arm <keyword id="6866514" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="spicexpress" source="Orion">SpiceXpress</keyword> was in black during the first quarter of the current fiscal. It reported a net profit of Rs 18 crore. Cargo revenues rose 74 per cent to Rs 1,944 crore in FY2022. "We will soon conclude the hive-off of cargo business into a separate independent company, SpiceXpress in the current quarter which will be followed by capacity enhancement with additional freighter aircraft within FY2023," Singh said. Meanwhile, certain concerns have been flagged in the independent auditor report of the company's quarterly results. "... the group has an incurred net loss (after other comprehensive income) of Rs 7,827.82 million during the quarter ended 30 June 2022 and, as of that date, the group's accumulated losses amounts to Rs 67,471.11 million, which have resulted in complete erosion of its net worth and the current liabilities have exceeded its current assets by Rs 67,719.67 million as at 30 June 2022," it said. According to the report, these conditions and other matters indicate the existence of a material uncertainties that may cast significant doubt about the Group's ability to continue as a going concern. Singh said that despite the complex operating environment and highest-ever input costs, SpiceJet has been able to sustain its operations. "Last year was a period of restructuring and settlements and we successfully completed and implemented settlements with most of our major partners, including manufacturers and lessors setting the stage for our seamless growth and expansion. "As we move ahead, we are encouraged with the strong travel demand and our focus for the next year would be to induct more fuel-efficient Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft and concentrate on our regional and international routes," he added. In recent months, SpiceJet has been facing turbulent times, including financial headwinds. In July, the regulator directed the airline to operate only 50 per cent of flights in the wake of many of its planes facing technical issues. SpiceJet net loss widens to ₹789 crore, CFO resigns

<keyword id="6356662" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="singapore" source="Orion">Singapore</keyword> Airlines' deal with Tata Sons (Tata) will inject a further <keyword id="366395" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sgd" source="Orion">SGD</keyword> 360 million (USD 267 million) into Air <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>. It will give <keyword id="6359180" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sia" source="Orion">SIA</keyword> a 25.1 per cent stake in the enlarged Air India group following its takeover by Tata and merger with <keyword id="2468721" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vistara-airlines" source="Orion">Vistara Airlines</keyword>. The November 2022 deal between Singapore Airlines and Tata Sons to further inject USD 267 million into Air India is one of the key strategic initiatives for future growth mentioned in the quarterly financial report. This agreement is still subject to regulatory approval. SIA in the statement said, "The merged entity will be four to five times larger in scale compared to <keyword id="2467342" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vistara" source="Orion">Vistara</keyword>, with a strong presence in all key airline segments in India. The proposed merger will bolster SIA's presence in India, strengthen its multi-hub strategy, and allow it to continue participating directly in this large and fast-growing aviation market." The airline further said, "Deeper collaboration with like-minded airlines is an integral part of the SIA Group's partnerships strategy. This enables SIA and its partners to drive more traffic to their hubs, offer more options to customers, and increase the Group's global footprint." Last week, Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced that net profit for Q3 which ended in December, came in at Singapore dollar (SGD) 628 million (USD 465 million) and financial year-to-date profits touched SGD 1,555 million (USD 1,152 million). They are the highest the airline has ever earned in a quarter as well as for the first nine months of a financial year. The airlines said in a statement that this is due to "the robust demand for air travel continuing into the third quarter of FY2022/23, building on the momentum that began after Singapore relaxed its border restrictions in April 2022." SIA financial year starts in April. This comes on the back of Singapore's announcement that from February 13, it will relax all remaining Covid restrictions for travellers as well as locals. Travellers who are not fully vaccinated against Covid will no longer need to show proof of a negative pre-departure test before entering Singapore and do not need to buy travel insurance to cover Covid treatment if they fall ill on the island. Those who are vaccinated no longer need to show proof on arrival. The use of a face mask on public transport which was the last remaining local Covid-era protocol is no longer mandatory as of the same date. Singapore was one of the first Asian countries to reopen after the Covid pandemic and that has aided its tourism industry along with its national carrier. Besides government grants to affected industries during Covid, the airline was the beneficiary of its shareholders and financial institutions' confidence in its business as it managed to raise SGD 22.4 billion (USD 16.6 billion) during Covid including SGD 15 billion from shareholders (largest of which is state investment firm Temasek Holdings) through sales of shares and convertible bonds. As of December 2022, it still holds a cash balance of SGD 15.4 billion. This allowed it to keep most of its staff and fleet and facilitated restoration of routes quickly once travel resumed. This was unlike other regional airlines which had to let staff go and sell aircraft to keep afloat.SIA reported that its group passenger capacity reached 80 per cent of pre-Covid levels in December 2022, higher than the average of 51 per cent for the Asia-Pacific region. Its two main airline brands carried 7.4 million passengers in the third quarter, up 17 per cent from the second quarter. When added to the first two quarters, the SIA Group served 18.8 million passengers for the first nine months of the financial year. This is a nine-fold increase from a year earlier (2021) when most of the world's borders were still closed. Passenger load factors for the Group improved by 0.8 percentage points to 87.4 per cent, the highest for any quarter, on the back of record load factors for both premium airline, SIA (87.3 per cent) and low-cost carrier, Scoot (87.8 per cent). SIA reported that its cargo performance moderated compared to the previous quarter due to softening demand, as well as an increase in belly hold capacity as more passenger aircraft returned to service globally. While yields were weaker quarter-on-quarter, they remained elevated -- almost double -- compared to pre-Covid levels. Overall, SIA's revenue for the three months to December rose SGD 358 million (USD 265 million), an 8 per cent quarter-on-quarter increase to SGD 4,846 million (USD 3,589 million), a record. Passenger-flown revenue increased by 14 per cent or SGD 463 million to SGD 3,767 million as traffic grew 12.2 per cent for the quarter, outpacing the 11.1 per cent expansion in capacity. Revenue per available seat-kilometre (RASK) was 10.6 Singapore cents, the highest quarterly RASK in the Group's history. Cargo flown revenue fell 14.1 per cent or SGD 141 million (USD 104 million) to SGD 862 million (USD638 million), with the lower yields which were down 14.6 per cent partially mitigated by a slight uptick in loads, up 0.6 per cent. Expenditure increased 7.4 per cent or SGD281 million (USD208 million) quarter-on-quarter to SGD 4,091 million (USD 3,030 million). This comprised an SGD 371 million (15.5 per cent) rise in non-fuel expenditure that was partly offset by an SGD 90 million decrease (-6.3 per cent) in net fuel cost. The increase in non-fuel expenditure was higher than the increase in capacity, mainly driven by higher foreign exchange losses of SGD 194 million (USD 144 million) recorded at the end of the current quarter with the US dollar weakening 6.1 per cent against the Singapore dollar. Net fuel cost fell to SGD 1,333 million (USD 987 million) mainly due to a 13 per cent drop in fuel prices. This was partly offset by higher volumes uplifted (+USD 103 million) and lower fuel hedging gain (+USD 19 million). Singapore Airlines to get 25.1% stake in enlarged Air India group

Business operations of the airline industry have been highly affected as the government has restricted travel due to the continued impact of the pandemic. The company’s chairman and managing director (MD) indicated that it struggled to sell its tickets in the last five quarters. “The last five quarters have been the most difficult phase ever for SpiceJet as aviation remained the worst‐hit sector during the second wave as well. Q1 [first quarter] was severely impacted by the second wave as passenger traffic almost disappeared,” said Ajay Singh, MD and chairman in the earnings release. And here SpiceJet’s capacity utilisation hovered between 64-78% while Indigo’s capacity remained less than 60% in the last two months. In fact, SpiceJet’s best passenger load factor was best amongst all airlines in the country during the quarter. The average domestic load factor for the quarter was 69.5%. Shares of the company were also affected with its disappointing June quarter results. Flying with the least number of passengers in April, May burns a $100 million hole in SpiceJet’s books

<keyword id="6358032" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SpiceJet">SpiceJet</keyword> reports profit of RS 73 crore in Q4 last fiscal. The airline said that the amount of profit is despite the airline provisioning Rs 173 crore for stabilizing and reliability of its fleet. 
 
The airline also said that they have reported the highest-ever profit of RS 407 crore during FY 2016 as against a loss of Rs 687 crore during FY 2015.

The three companies are expected to post record profits in the year ending March 2020, according to a latest report, despite falling passenger traffic. The irony has been brought to life by the scorching airfares. The Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) has estimated an annual profit of $400 million-500 million for IndiGo alone-- that is more than the profits last year for all three airlines put together. Within 12 months, SpiceJet's domestic market share could approach 25%, CAPA reportedly said. Jet Airways was grounded in 2019 and will now be <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/meet-sanjiv-kapoor-the-new-ceo-of-jet-airways-2-0/slidelist/89987676.cms">making a re-entry</a> three years later next month. Yatra Online Limited, in its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) revealed, “We are exposed to risks associated with these Indian businesses which risks have recently been heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic, including bankruptcies, restructurings, consolidations and alliances of its partners, the credit worthiness of these partners, and the possible obligation to make payments to our partners. For example, the Indian airline industry has experienced significant losses and has undergone bankruptcies, restructurings, consolidations and other similar events.” The company also cited the example of Jet Airways whose bankruptcy and cessation of operations negatively impacted Yatra’s revenue. The Jet Airways bankruptcy — or any future bankruptcies or increased consolidation in the airline industry — could create challenges for the company and reduce the profitability of its airline ticketing business, the company said. But it gets worse Yatra Online Limited generated over 70% of its business from air ticketing in the fiscal year 2021 and nearly 66% in the first half of fiscal year 2022. Future Retail On Friday, post-market hours owner of Big Bazaar and fbb, Future Retail reported a consolidated net loss of ₹477.63 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31. The company’s revenue from operations plummeted 17.75% to ₹4,492.36 crore during the quarter under review. The shares of Future Retail ended 5% lower on September 4. Allcargo Logistics The board of Allcargo Logistics has approved the delisting proposal of company shares. The company has set the delisting floor price at ₹92.58 per share. The shares of Allcargo Logistics ended 2% lower on September 4. CG Power The power generation giant CG Power has temporarily suspended operations at its Mandideep manufacturing unit.
