Paramount would merge with Skydance and stay public, while Apollo's offer would likely take the entertainment giant private. Skydance's newest bid includes a $3 billion cash injection, most of which would go toward paying off shareholders, two sources close to the negotiation told Business Insider.There are questions as to whether Paramount would stay whole under Apollo and Sony. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (<keyword id="20115912" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zeel" source="keywords">ZEEL</keyword>), which has already missed the first instalment of around $ 200 million, will not move ahead, industry sources told PTI. The instalment to be paid to Disney Star was part of the $ 1.5 billion investment committed by Sony Group after its merger with ZEEL, said another industry source while confirming the development. Sony Corporation had on Monday announced the termination of the $ 10 billion merger agreement with ZEEL, while seeking $ 90 million for breach of conditions besides initiating arbitration. As per the merger agreement between ZEEL and Sony, the Japanese entity was supposed to invest $ 1.575 billion in the merged entity and have a majority stake. There were no immediate comments from ZEEL over the development. Three days after Sony called off the deal, ZEEL MD &amp; CEO <keyword id="20130441" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="punit-goenka" source="keywords">Punit Goenka</keyword> addressed a townhall meeting of around 3,000 employees across the globe, in which he asked them to move forward and chase new opportunities. We have to mould ourselves to be well-positioned in order to capitalise on the opportunities coming our way. We have been leaders over the last 3 decades and have delivered value to our stakeholders, year on year," he said. On August 30, 2022, ZEEL had announced entering into a strategic licensing agreement with Disney Star for television broadcasting rights of the ICC Men's and Under-19 global events for a period of four years. Disney Star will continue to exclusively stream all ICC tournaments through its digital platform Disney+ Hotstar, a joint statement had said. This was done with the in-principle approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Disney Star bagged the broadcast rights of all ICC events for four years from 2024 to 2027 for the Indian market from the sport's global governing body. As per the agreement, ZEEL was supposed to have exclusive television rights for ICC men's events, including the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, which will be played in 2024 and 2026, ICC Men's Champions Trophy (2025), and the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup (2027), along with key ICC U-19 events, it said. ZEEL on Wednesday approached the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to get Sony to honour a $ 10 billion merger deal. Sony had resisted the demand by Subhash Chandra's son Punit Goenka, who was investigated by Sebi over fraud allegations, to stay on after the merger. It has also initiated appropriate legal actions to contest the claims of $ 90 million (Rs 748.5 crore) filed by Sony Group before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). Zee Entertainment backs out from $1.4 bn deal with Disney Star

The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), a global standards body advancing transparency online through certifying the provenance of digital content, on Friday announced that <keyword id="19902762" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="google" source="keywords">Google</keyword> has joined as a steering committee member and support <keyword id="20518759" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="content-credentials" source="keywords">Content Credentials</keyword> to bring transparency to digital content in the AI era. Google will collaborate with other steering committee members like Adobe, BBC, Intel, Microsoft, <keyword id="19963754" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="publicis-groupe" source="keywords">Publicis Groupe</keyword>, Sony, and Truepic to develop the technical standard for Content Credentials. Content Credentials is the C2PA's technical standard for tamper-resistant metadata that can be attached to digital content, showing how and when the content was created or modified. "In the critical context of this year's global elections where the threat of misinformation looms larger than ever, the urgency to increase trust in the digital ecosystem has never been more pressing," <keyword id="20518761" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dana-rao" source="keywords">Dana Rao</keyword>, General Counsel and Chief Trust Officer, Adobe and Co-founder of the C2PA, said in a statement. The deal, announced in September last year, has received the Competition Commission of India's nod after the regulator accepted "voluntary remedies" proposed by the parties, sources close to the development said. In a tweet, the watchdog said it has cleared the deal with certain modifications. CCI said it has approved the "amalgamation of <keyword id="1417408" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="zee-entertainment-enterprises-limited" source="Orion">Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited</keyword> (ZEEL) and Bangla Entertainment Private Limited (BEPL) with Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited (<keyword id="55015" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cme" source="Orion">CME</keyword>), with certain modifications". Details about the proposed modifications could not be immediately ascertained. CCI had issued show cause notices to the parties after it initially concluded that the deal could have an adverse impact on competition, the sources said. Subsequently, the parties proposed voluntary remedies, which have been accepted by the regulator, they added. ZEEL said CCI has granted the approval in phase-1 after evaluating the official legal and economic submissions made by the company. Most of the deals get cleared by CCI in phase-1 and only if there are serious concerns then the deal concerned is put up for public scrutiny under phase 2. "Considering the immense value which the proposed merger will generate for all its stakeholders, the company has offered the necessary remedies in accordance with the regulator's guidelines," ZEEL said, adding that further details are awaited. On September 7, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) had advised the company to convene and conduct the meeting with its shareholders on October 14 to seek their approval for the proposed merger. The deal remains subject to applicable regulatory and other approvals, ZEEL said. In a separate statement, Sony Pictures Networks India said it is delighted to receive CCI approval for the merger. "We will now await remaining regulatory approvals to finally launch the new merged company. The merged company will create extraordinary value for Indian consumers and eventually lead the consumer transition from traditional pay TV into the digital future," it said. Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited was earlier known as Sony Pictures Networks India Pvt Ltd. Deals beyond certain thresholds require the approval of CCI, which keeps a tab on unfair business practices and also promotes fair competition in the marketplace. Both parties had entered into a definitive agreement for the deal in December last year and the proposed merger has already received approval from stock exchanges NSE and BSE. ZEEL, in September 2021, said it has entered into a non-binding term sheet with SPNI to bring together their linear networks, digital assets, production operations and programme libraries. The combined entity will own over 70 TV channels, 2 video streaming services (ZEE5 and Sony LIV) and two film studios (Zee Studios and Sony Pictures Films India), making it the largest entertainment network in India, ZEEL said in September last year. Under the deal, there will be amalgamation of ZEE and BEPL with CME. Besides, preferential allotment of certain shares will be made by CME to Sunbright International Holdings Limited, earlier known as Essel Holdings Limited, and Sunbright Mauritius Investments Limited, according to a release issued by CCI. CME is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation (SGC). CME has several general entertainment channels, film, sports and kids' entertainment channels in India. SonyLIV is CME's digital entertainment video service which provides OTT services in India and international markets. CME reaches out to over 700 million viewers in India and is available in 167 countries. BEPL is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of SGC and a part of the SGC Group. It is broadly engaged in the acquisition of rights for motion pictures, events and other TV cont ent; and in generating advertising revenue from the telecast of TV content. ZEE is a media and entertainment company, with presence across the segments of broadcasting, digital content, movies, music and live entertainment, spread over 190 countries, as per the release. Now arrested in connection with the ICICI Bank loan fraud case, Venugopal Dhoot during his heydays was not the one to simply sit on small achievements like <keyword id="6354248" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="videocon" source="Orion">Videocon</keyword> becoming the largest television set manufacturer in India. The eldest son of late Nandlal Madhavlal Dhoot, who founded the <keyword id="6379256" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="videocon-group" source="Orion">Videocon Group</keyword> in 1984, Venugopal was largely responsible for driving the conglomerate to diversify into various verticals, such as oil and gas, real estate and retail, beyond its successful consumer electronics and home appliances business. Dhoot, the safari-suited businessman, was born into an agricultural family in Ahmednagar (Maharashtra), where his father had a cotton ginning mill and operated a wholesale grain trade. In 1982, when the public broadcaster Doordarshan began transmitting colour television programmes in India, it opened a new segment. Here the Dhoot family tried their luck in the uncharted territory of manufacturing conventional tube-based colour TV sets. Dhoot who had an engineering degree from the University of Pune set off to Japan for a year to be trained at electronics companies. In 1986, he founded Videocon International, which aimed at manufacturing 1,00,000 TV sets a year. It entered into technical collaboration with the Japanese major Toshiba and from here there was no looking back. From colour TV sets, Videocon in the 1990s expanded into other verticals, such as refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, home entertainment systems and other small appliances. It pushed contemporary rivals like Mirc Electronic (Onida), Salora, Weston etc with affordable pricing. Its TV models like Bazooka and Bazoomba were the market's favourites in the early 90s. After having success in its consumer electronics and home appliances business, Dhoot expanded Videocon Industries into other areas, such as Oil &amp; Gas, cellular services and others. However, Dhoot's downfall started when it entered into the cellular service area with Videocon Telecommunications. It could launch commercial services only in 11 out of the 18 circles it held licences. In 2012, after the 2G spectrum case, the Supreme Court cancelled 122 licences issued by the central government in 2008, 21 licences belonged to Videocon. In the 2012 spectrum auction, Videocon won back licences in 6 circles but sold to the market leader <keyword id="6354287" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bharti-airtel" source="Orion">Bharti Airtel</keyword> and shut down operations. Moreover, in the late 90s South Korean giants like LG Electronics and Samsung entered the Indian market, which disrupted consumer electronics and appliances with the latest technology and quality products at affordable pricing. Though Videocon Industries had several verticals, its main cash cow was the consumer electronics and appliances business. As Videocon failed to face the challenges from rivals Sony, LG and Samsungs, its revenue got stagnated and gradually it sat on a pile of debt. Dhoot tried to pair debts by selling some of his assets. The company merged its DTH business with Dish TV. They sold ownership in some of their gas fields and telecom business, but it did not work. Finally, in 2018, it was dragged to the insolvency tribunal NCLT by its creditor. It owed around Rs 31,000 crore to the banks, including interests. At the request of lenders, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has conducted a consolidated corporate insolvency resolution process by combining Videocon Industries and the other 12 Videocon group companies. In June 2021, a bid of merely Rs 2,692 crore from billionaire Anil Agarwal's Twin Star Technologies to take over Videocon Industries was approved by the NCLT. This also went into controversy. Earlier this year, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) had set aside Twin Star's Rs 2,692 crore bid, directing to invite fresh bids. Though it was challenged before the Supreme Court by Twin Star, the creditors of Videocon Industries are still looking for a buyer. According to some sources, the lenders may even consider liquidation, if they fail to find a buyer for the company, which once was a success story. From an industry leader to a defaulter: Rise and fall of Venugopal Dhoot

Find out in the review.</li></ul>Sony launched its first <keyword id="13888547" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="neckband-speaker" source="Orion">neckband speaker</keyword> with <keyword id="1473348" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="dolby-atmos" source="Orion">Dolby Atmos</keyword> — SRS NS7 in India earlier this year. Although it's not a fresh product category for the company, it is still new for its consumers in India and a first-generation product that has its niche referred to as personal entertainment. There are several neckband speakers available online, but most of them are unreliable China-made products and only a couple of them are from known brands. But the <keyword id="13162843" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sony-srs-ns7" source="Orion">Sony SRS NS7</keyword> is different as it comes with better features, a premium build quality and Dolby Atmos support, which means any comparison would be unfair. The neckband speaker is priced at ₹24,990, and it works best with Sony Bravia XR TV models because that's the only instance when the Dolby Atmos kicks in. Before we move on with the review, it's important to make it clear that it's not something you can buy because it's cool. It's primarily meant to be used with specific Sony TVs and any other use of the neck speaker does not justify the high price. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Subhead" text="Design">Design</cmsannotation> The SRS NS7 neckband is a unique looking gadget, that would definitely make people notice it. But since it's a personal entertainment device, you're unlikely to wear it in public. It looks like a big horseshoe, meant to be rested around the neck. While it sat well around my neck, it might struggle to keep in place for someone with a tinier neck and shoulders. Not that its audio performance will suffer, but it might get difficult to stay in place for certain body types. <div type="image" title="DSC_0010" msid="91472613" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Sony SRS-NS7 has a horseshoe like design&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>Some elements of the U-shaped design of the speaker are worth praise. First is the weight distribution, which keeps it intact at the right position even if you move around a lot. Another tiny design element is the thinner back, which not only ensures the weight is dropped on the front but also allows space for your head to bend it in any direction needed. Overall, you do not feel stuck or restricted to move. <div type="image" title="DSC_0009" msid="91472621" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Sony SRS-NS7 has a good quality mesh on the top&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>Sony has used a good quality mesh fabric on the outer part and soft-touch plastic on the sides and inside. It's the same material we've seen on some Sony headphones and speakers in the past. The inside of the collar resides the microphone, mute and power/pair button on the right-hand side, and the volume controls on the left. If you grab them as you might your collar, the controls will fall under your left and right index fingers respectively. That’s a nice bit of ergonomic design, but it comes with a learning curve as you can't see what you're pressing unless you are used to doing it. I had to take it off to see the controls before operating it. <div type="image" title="DSC_0012" msid="91472647" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The power and mic button on the Sony SRS-NS7 is on the right&amp;lt;span class=&amp;quot;redactor-invisible-space&amp;quot;&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/span&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Weight-wise, I found it lightweight enough to wear for long hours comfortably, but I did not use it for more than 30 minutes even in over ten days of use. It's also splashproof, which means it can bear accidental water spillage but that doesn't make it safe from pools and showers. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="subhead" text="Is the performance worth the premium?">Is the performance worth the premium? </cmsannotation> There are two things that Sony has always kept the standard - quality of build and audio. The same is retained on this product as well. The audio experience has all the bells and whistles to blow you away - be it clarity, soundstage, sound profile or loudness. <div type="image" title="DSC_0030" msid="91472660" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Sony SRS-NS7 performance is top notch&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> My first audio experience on the SRS NS7 was the song - Blinding lights by the Weekend. I was amazed, so much that I immediately passed it on to the friend next to me with a smile. As expected, he enjoyed it too. But the real experience was while watching a movie where it excels and gives a proper feel of a home theatre on your shoulder with sounds coming from left, right, front and back. The 360-degree surround sound is solid for cinematic background, and accurate but what's missing here is the room-filling boom of gunfire or a bomb blast as experienced on a premium home theatre setup. Watching a cricket or football match is another interesting experience where you can actually feel like you're sitting in the stadium among the crowd. <div type="image" title="DSC_0022" msid="91472695" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Sony SRS-NS7 has multi-directional speakers built-in the body&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> For gaming, I paired it with my OnePlus Q1 Pro TV running games through the PlayStation 5. While it would be unfair to say this neck speaker is better than headphones, I can safely say it does a good job at games like a first-person shooter where you need to know where the enemy is approaching from. It's somewhere in between good headphones and a home theatre system. Simply put, I can recommend these for gaming to those who don't like to block their ears while gaming and still don't want to miss the details. With this, you don't need to have features like passthrough or ambient mode to know what's happening around you. The downside is that despite having Atmos support, the NS7 doesn't let you use it if you are not using a Sony TV. So to get the most out of your ₹24,990 investment, you might also need to invest a lot more into a supported TV. It uses a wireless transmitter that comes in the box, which plugs into your TV with an optical-to-USB cable, and pairs to the neckband speaker wirelessly over Bluetooth. The transmitter supports TVs other than Sony Bravia XR models, but it won't minimise the audio latency as it will on Sony. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="subhead" text="Battery performance">Battery performance</cmsannotation> The Sony SRS NS7 delivers around 12 hours of battery life on medium volume and around 6 hours at maximum volume. It gives around one hour of charge with 15 minutes of charging. This means you can easily get through an eight-episode series or a couple of movies. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="subhead" text="Other features">Other features</cmsannotation> While the audio quality is great, Sony has also taken good care of the microphone performance. It is important as you would want to use it while gaming where a good mic is a must. The microphone works very well. Also, the multipoint connectivity allows it to connect to two devices simultaneously. So you can connect it to your TV and smartphone at the same time, and take calls on it with ease. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="subhead" text="Is it the future of personal entertainment and should you invest in it?">Is it the future of personal entertainment and should you invest in it?</cmsannotation> The Sony SRS NS7 does give a glimpse of the future but I'm still unsure of the possible use cases for this. The most logical one I could think of is for those who live in flats or apartments where you can't blast the sound to have a theatre-like experience as it may be a problem for the neighbours. It's phenomenal to think that Sony has managed to find a way to deliver sound straight into the ear without covering them up. It's not the first to do, but it's certainly the best to do so. The downsides, however, are more than the benefits. It's as expensive as a mid-range home theatre system, which is a more sensible option if you live with a family and want to enjoy movies in groups. For music, it fails to match the precision of a headphone and the fullness of a big speaker.
