The IPO of ACME Solar, which opened for subscription yesterday, has been subscribed 1.81x in the retail investors category and 0.6x overall. The offer, worth Rs 2,900 crore, is a combination of Rs 2,395 crore of fresh issue and Rs 505 crore worth of OFS (offer for sale). With a price band of Rs 275-289, the IPO will close for subscription tomorrow. Retail investors can invest in a minimum of 1 lot of 51 shares, bringing the total amount to Rs 14,739. The company is set to list on both NSE and BSE on November 13, 2024. Despite the company's strong presence in the renewable energy space, the company's GMP (grey market premium) remains muted, almost negligible, trading at Rs 0 today. ACME's GMP has been dipping ever since November 30, 2024, when it stood at Rs 30. The allotment of shares is scheduled for November 11, 2024, with a tentative listing date on the BSE and NSE set for November 13, 2024. The company amassed Rs 1,300.5 crore via the issue of 4.5 crore equity shares from anchor investors ahead of its IPO. Around 1.5 crore equity shares, or about 33.4% of the total anchor book, were lapped up by 8 domestic mutual fund houses through a total of 17 schemes. <h2>About the company </h2>ACME Solar is one of India's top 10 renewable energy-independent power producers. To date, the company has developed a total of 2,719 MW of solar power projects. In terms of financial performance, over the last three fiscal years, the company has reported (on a consolidated basis) a total income of Rs 1,562.73 crore in FY22, Rs 1,361.67 crore in FY23, and Rs 1,466.27 crore in FY24. In terms of net profit/loss, ACME Solar incurred a net profit of Rs 62.01 crore in FY22, a loss of Rs 3.15 crore in FY23, and Rs 697.78 crore in FY24. For the first quarter of FY25, the company's revenue from operations stood at Rs 340.01 crore, while earning a net profit of Rs 1.39 crore. The company intends to utilize the IPO proceeds to repay and prepay part of its outstanding borrowings, and also for general corporate purposes. However, the company is not without its fair share of risks. Around 63.22% of its FY24 revenue is concentrated in just three Indian states—Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. Also, the company's business is highly dependent on its top 10 off-takers, which contributed 95.42% to its revenue as of the quarter ended June 30, 2024, 87.48% to its revenue in FY23, and 81.11% to the company's income in FY22. The loss of any of these off-takers can have adverse effects on their business, financial condition, results of operations, and cash flows. Moreover, not only does its growth depend on winning highly competitive project bids, but it is also highly reliant on government-owned transmission grids and infrastructure. <h2>Should you subscribe? </h2>Per Bajaj Broking, the issue appears to be aggressively priced, yet they would recommend subscribing to the IPO for the long term. "Over the past three fiscal years, the company has achieved an average EPS of Rs. 6.44 and an average RoNW of 13.95%. The issue is priced at a P/BV of 7.77 based on its NAV of Rs 37.19 as of June 30, 2024. When annualizing FY25 earnings to the post-IPO fully diluted equity base, the asking price results in a P/E of 3211.11, while based on FY24 earnings, the P/E stands at 25.06". However, there are financial concerns that cannot be ignored. "FY24 appears to be an exceptional year with significantly boosted profits, but otherwise, the company has shown inconsistent top and bottom lines over the reported periods. Its debt-equity ratio of 3.89 as of June 30, 2024, is notably high and raises concerns," it adds. According to Anand Rathi Research, the IPO can be subscribed to in the long run. "At the upper price band, the company is valued at a P/E of 30.17x, with an EV/EBITDA of 22.4x and a market cap of Rs 1,74,868 million post-issue of equity shares and a return on net worth of 26.93%. We believe that the IPO is richly priced," adds the note.

Apollo Green Energy to go public next year – aims to build ₹10,000 crore project portfolio

The IPO worth Rs 4,321.44 crore is a combination of a fresh issue worth Rs 3,600 crore and OFS (offer for sale) worth Rs 721.44 crore. Retail investors, who are being offered about 35% of the total issue pie, can bid for a minimum of 1 lot, which includes 9 shares, taking the minimum investment amount to Rs 13,527. With the listing set for Monday, October 28, 2024, the company has set a price band of Rs 1,427 to Rs 1,503 per share. However, prior to the stock's debut on the bourses, the company's <keyword id="19931032" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gmp" source="keywords">GMP</keyword> (grey market premium) has been scaling fresh highs. As of today, <keyword id="1415709" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Waaree" source="Orion">Waaree</keyword> Energies GMP was Rs 1,475, taking the potential listing price to Rs 2,978. This means that the expected gain per share from the stock's listing is a whopping 98.14%. The company's GMP has been on a steady rise, inching up from Rs 1,280 on October 15, 2024, to Rs 1,475 today. However, today's GMP was a tad bit down from the Rs 1,510 levels it was trading at yesterday. <h2>About the company</h2>The company, which operates 4 manufacturing facilities in Gujarat, India, commenced operations in 2007. As of FY24, it commands a 21% share in India's domestic solar module manufacturing space and a healthy 44% share in its exports from the country. In just 3 years, the company has exponentially increased its manufacturing capacity, from 2 GW in FY21 to 13.3 GW in FY24. Waaree will be utilizing the proceeds from the issue to set up a 11.4 GW integrated manufacturing facility. Out of this, a 5.4 GW solar cell manufacturing facility will be operational in Chikhli next year. Another 6 GW establishment in Odisha, which is expected to be functional by FY27, will produce ingots, wafers, and solar cells. The company has recently also been awarded orders worth Rs 19 billion under the government's PLI (Production-Linked Incentive Scheme). The company's bottom line, i.e., financials, have also been going from strength to strength over the past few years. Waaree's revenue from operations stood at Rs 1,13,976.09 million as of FY24, up from Rs 28,542.65 million in FY22. Its PAT (<keyword id="142274" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Profit-after-tax" source="Orion">profit after tax</keyword>) also took a massive jump, from Rs 796.5 million in FY22 to Rs 12,743.67 million in FY24. The company also reported PAT margins of 2.70% in FY22, 7.29% in FY23, 10.96% in FY24, and 11.47% in the first quarter of FY25. During these years, WEL's basic EPS (earnings per share), a measure of the company's profitability, also inched up 3.84 in FY22 to 48.05 in FY24. However, the company is not without its share of risks. The most prominent of them is its heavy reliance on its top 10 customers and export revenue. As of FY24, they contributed 56.77% and 57.64% to the total revenue, respectively. <h2>Subscribe for the long-term</h2>Experts are largely recommending subscribing to this IPO for the long term. Per InCred Equities' IPO note, "In 1QFY25, the company’s revenue was at Rs 34 billion (+2% YoY), while EBITDA and PAT stood at Rs 5.5 billion (+18% YoY) and ~Rs 4 billion (+19% YoY), respectively. Based on FY25F annualized financials, the IPO’s higher band implies an EV/EBITDA of~18x and a P/E of~27x, which is at a discount to its peers, in our view. We recommend subscription to the IPO, given the strong financials, strong industry tailwinds with long-term opportunities in the solar industry, robust order backlog, and further expansion plans." Bajaj Broking also shares these views, albeit it notes that the issue appears to be fully priced rather than being on discount. "If we attribute FY25 annualized super earnings to its post-IPO fully diluted paid-up equity capital, then the asking price is at a P/E of 26.91, and based on FY24 earnings, the P/E stands at 44.36. The issue relatively appears fully priced. We recommend subscribing to this IPO for the long term," it continued. Per Anand Rathi Research, the company's offer is reasonably priced with a PE of 26x (per FY25 earnings) and a market cap of Rs 4,31,786 million. "We believe that, with solar energy emerging as a key global theme in the transition to renewable energy, WEL is well placed to capitalize on the growing opportunity given its leading market share, strong financials, and continued focus on innovation and sustainability with capacity expansion through backward integration. We recommend "subscribing” to this IPO issue," it explained.

India remains highly dependent on imports for minerals critical to accelerating its <keyword id="19951336" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="energy-transition" source="keywords">energy transition</keyword>, with a full reliance on shipping in lithium, cobalt and nickel, according to a report released Monday. The report, published by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), said that India's demand for <keyword id="19978839" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="critical-minerals" source="keywords">critical minerals</keyword> is expected to more than double by 2030, while domestic mining operations may take over a decade to start producing. It stresses that India needs a carefully crafted import strategy to mitigate potential trade risks while balancing international relationships to secure these essential minerals. IEEFA's report examines five critical minerals (and their compounds) - cobalt, copper, graphite, lithium and nickel - from the perspectives of import dependency, trade dynamics, domestic availability, and global price fluctuations. The findings show that India remains largely import-dependent for these minerals and their compounds, with 100 per cent import reliance for minerals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel. "India should strive to de-risk its critical minerals sourcing by identifying new international resources and expediting <keyword id="20681115" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-production" source="keywords">domestic production</keyword>. A concerted effort to partner with and foster bilateral relations with <keyword id="23713985" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mineral-rich-nations" source="keywords">mineral-rich nations</keyword> should be a priority for India," said the report's co-author Charith Konda, Energy Specialist, IEEFA. "The country can also explore investment opportunities in resource-rich, friendly nations, such as Australia and Chile, as well as African countries like Ghana and South Africa," he added. The report said India depends heavily on China for synthetic graphite and natural graphite and it should explore cooperation initiatives with countries like Mozambique, Madagascar, Brazil and Tanzania which are some of the highest graphite producing countries. "As part of the Global South cooperation initiatives, these countries could be favourable partners for India for <keyword id="23713984" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="graphite-trading" source="keywords">graphite trading</keyword>," said the report's co-author Kaira Rakheja, Energy Analyst, IEEFA. India is also highly import-dependent for copper cathodes and nickel sulphates from just two countries - Japan and Belgium. The report suggests India could look at the US, the fifth largest producer of copper in the world, to diversify its suppliers and enhance <keyword id="23714709" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="supply-security" source="keywords">supply security</keyword>. For minerals like lithium oxide and nickel oxide, the dependency is low on one country, but overall imports largely come from Russia and China, both countries with potential trade risks. "Developing domestic lithium refining capacity will help India integrate with the global lithium supply chain," said Rakheja. The report also notes the significant efforts that the Indian government is making to improve domestic production of critical minerals with the auctions by the Ministry of Mines and the planned Critical Minerals Mission. "The critical minerals mining block auctions can serve as an opportunity for India to focus on building refining and processing capabilities to emerge as a global value-adding hub," said Rakheja. "Government support in the form of viability gap funding and technology development will help promote such auctions and ultimately the domestic production of critical minerals. "A stable supply of critical minerals is imperative for India to achieve its <keyword id="19895602" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="renewable-energy" source="keywords">renewable energy</keyword> goals," Konda said. India has committed to achieving 500 gigawatts (GW) of non-fossil fuel-based electricity installed capacity by 2030. Currently, the country's renewable energy installed capacity stands at 201 GW, with solar energy accounting for 91 GW. According to another study, the fast-developing South Asian nation needs to install around 7,000 GW of renewable energy capacity to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced a cut in customs duty on minerals such as lithium, copper and cobalt, which are critical for nuclear energy, renewable and other sectors, to give a fillip to the energy transition. In her budget speech in Lok Sabha, Sitharaman recalled that in the interim budget she had announced a strategy to sustain high and more resource-efficient economic growth, along with energy security in terms of availability, accessibility and affordability. "We will bring out a policy document on appropriate energy transition pathways that balances the imperatives of employment, growth and environmental sustainability," she said. Noting that minerals such as lithium, copper, cobalt and rare earth elements are critical for sectors like nuclear energy, <keyword id="19895602" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="renewable-energy" source="keywords">renewable energy</keyword>, space, defence, telecommunications, and high-tech electronics, she proposed to fully exempt customs duties on 25 critical minerals and reduce BCD (basic customs duty) on two of them. This will provide a major fillip to the processing and refining of such minerals and help secure their availability for these strategic and important sectors, she said. She stated that energy transition is critical in the fight against climate change. To support energy transition, she proposed to expand the list of exempted capital goods for use in the manufacture of solar cells and panels in the country. Further, she stated that in view of sufficient domestic manufacturing capacity of solar glass and tinned copper interconnect, I propose not to extend the exemption of customs duties provided to them. Noting that steel and copper are important raw materials and to reduce their cost of production, she proposed to remove the BCD on ferro nickel and blister copper. "I am also continuing with nil BCD on ferrous scrap and nickel cathode and concessional BCD of 2.5 per cent on copper scrap," she said. About the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which was rolled out earlier this year, he informed the House that in line with the announcement in the interim budget, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has been launched to install rooftop solar plants to enable 1 crore households obtain free electricity up to 300 units every month. The scheme has generated remarkable response with more than 1.28 crore registrations and 14 lakh applications, and we will further encourage it, he stated. She further stated that a policy for promoting pumped storage projects will be brought out for electricity storage and facilitating smooth integration of the growing share of renewable energy with its variable &amp; intermittent nature in the overall energy mix. She stated that nuclear energy is expected to form a very significant part of the energy mix for Viksit Bharat. Towards that pursuit, our government will partner with the private sector for setting up Bharat Small Reactors; research &amp; development of Bharat Small Modular Reactor and research &amp; development of newer technologies for nuclear energy, she informed the House. The R&amp;D funding announced in the interim budget will be made available for this sector, she added. The development of indigenous technology for Advanced Ultra Super Critical (AUSC) <keyword id="20421620" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="thermal-power" source="keywords">thermal power</keyword> plants with much higher efficiency has been completed, she informed the House. A joint venture between NTPC and BHEL will set up a full-scale 800 MW commercial plant using AUSC technology and the government will provide the required fiscal support, she added. Moving forward, the development of indigenous capacity for the production of high-grade steel and other advanced metallurgy materials for these plants will result in strong spin-off benefits for the economy, she pointed out. A roadmap for moving the 'hard to abate' industries from 'energy efficiency' targets to 'emission targets' will be formulated, she stated adding that appropriate regulations for the transition of these industries from the current 'Perform, Achieve and Trade' mode to 'Indian Carbon Market' mode will be put in place. She further stated that an investment-grade energy audit of traditional micro and small industries in 60 clusters, including brass and ceramic, will be facilitated. Financial support will be provided for shifting them to cleaner forms of energy and implementation of energy efficiency measures. The scheme will be replicated in another 100 clusters in the next phase, she stated. Gaurav Kedia, Chairman, Indian Biogas Association said that the <keyword id="19908389" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Budget" source="keywords">Union Budget</keyword> 2024 has unveiled a roadmap towards a sustainable and resilient India, with agriculture and energy security at its core. Notably, Hyundai Motor India will list on <keyword id="20004725" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE" source="keywords">NSE</keyword> and <keyword id="19895774" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE" source="keywords">BSE</keyword> on October 22, 2024, Waaree Energies is scheduled to be listed on stock exchanges on October 28, 2024. <h2>About Waaree Energies </h2>The company is India's largest manufacturer of solar PV (photovoltaic) modules, and is looking to raise funds for establishing a new manufacturing facility in Odisha for producing ingot wafer, solar cell and PV modules. Retail investors can bet for a minimum of 1 lot (9 shares) worth Rs 13,527. At present, Waaree operates 5 manufacturing facilities across the country. The company's financials have been seeing a solid growth over the recent years, largely helped by India's booming renewables energy sector. India is set to almost double its renewable power capacity between 2022 and 2027. Of this, solar PVs, where Waaree is a big player, will constitute about 75%. The company's revenue from operations grew at a CAGR of 99.83% between FY22 and FY24, jumping from Rs 28,542.65 million to Rs 1,13976.09 million during the period. Additionally, the company boasts of a strong order pipeline, with 16.66GW of pending domestic and export orders, reflecting sustained growth in the times to come.
