The <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>) on Thursday cancelled the licence of The Laxmi Co-operative Bank Ltd in <keyword id="13126" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="maharashtra" source="Orion">Maharashtra</keyword>'s Solapur. Consequently, the bank ceases to carry on banking business, with effect from the close of business on September 22. The Commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Maharashtra has also been requested to issue an order for winding up the bank and appoint a liquidator for the bank. Following are the reason the central bank stated for cancelling the licence: - The bank does not have adequate capital and earning prospects. As such, it does not comply with the provisions of Section 11(1) and Section 22 (3) (d) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. - The bank has failed to comply with the requirements of Sections 22(3) (a), 22 (3) (b), 22(3)(c), 22(3) (d) and 22(3)(e) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949; - The continuance of the bank is prejudicial to the interests of its depositors; - The bank with its present financial position would be unable to pay its present depositors in full; and - Public interest would be adversely affected if the bank is allowed to carry on its banking business any further. On liquidation, every depositor would be entitled to receive deposit insurance claim amount of his/her deposits up to a monetary ceiling of Rs 5 lakh only from the <keyword id="2321861" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="deposit-insurance-and-credit-guarantee-corporation" source="Orion">Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation</keyword> (<keyword id="75345" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dicgc" source="Orion">DICGC</keyword>) subject to the provisions of DICGC Act, 1961. As per the data submitted by the bank, about 99 per cent of the depositors are entitled to receive full amount of their deposits from the DICGC. As on September 13, the DICGC has already paid Rs 193.68 crore of the total insured deposits under the provisions of Section 18A of the DICGC Act, 1961 based on the willingness received from the concerned depositors of the bank. RBI cancels licence of Laxmi Co-operative Bank, Solapur

The <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>) on Thursday directed Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Services Ltd, Mumbai (<keyword id="348944" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mmfsl" source="Orion">MMFSL</keyword>), to immediately cease carrying out any recovery or repossession activity through outsourcing arrangements, till further orders. In other words, the company was directed not to use services of any outside agency for loan recovery purpose. The RBI, however, said that MMFSL may continue to carry out recovery or repossession activities through its own employees. "The RBI in exercise of its powers under section 45L(1)(b) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, has directed Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Financial Services Ltd. (MMFSL), Mumbai, to immediately cease carrying out any recovery or repossession activity through outsourcing arrangements, till further orders. However, the said NBFC may continue to carry out recovery or repossession activities, through its own employees," it said. "This action is based on certain material supervisory concerns observed in the said NBFC, with regard to the management of its outsourcing activities," it said further. The direction from the central bank came after a pregnant woman in Jharkhand died after she was allegedly mowed down under the wheels of a tractor by a recovery agent of the finance company in the state's Hazaribagh district, according to media reports. As per reports, Hazaribagh police told media persons that the officials of the finance company did not inform the local police station before going to the residence of the victim for the recovery of the tractor. <keyword id="6355744" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mahindra-group" source="Orion">Mahindra Group</keyword>, in a statement quoting its Managing Director and CEO Anish Shah, said that it will investigate the incident from all aspects. It further said that the company will also examine the practise of using third-party collection agencies. The company said that it stands with the deceased person's family in this moment of grief. RBI restrains Mahindra Finance from using recovery agents after accident

The six Vidhan Sabha seats located within the Solapur Lok Sabha constituency are Mohol, Solapur City, North, Solapur City Central, Akkalkot, Solapur South, and Pandharpur. Among these six seats, Mohol is reserved for SC candidates and the remaining are general ones. In the Solapur Lok Sabha constituency, the sitting MP Sharad Bansode of the BJP won over the INC candidate Shinde Sushilkumar Sambhajirao by scoring 149,674 more votes than him in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. For the 2019 assembly elections, INC is fielding Ku. Praniti Sushil Kumar Shinde and Moulabi Bashumiya Sayeed from the Solapur Central and Solapur South constituencies. The BJP candidate for Solapur North is Vijayrao Deshmukh. Kalunge Shivajirao Bajirao will face the elections for INC from the Pandharpur constituency. The Election Commission has stated that all the constituencies of Maharashtra will go for polling for the 2019 assembly elections on October 21, 2019 and the votes will be counted on October 24, 2019. The latest assembly elections for Maharashtra were held in 2014. From the Mohol (SC) seat, Ramesh Nagnath Kadam of NCP secured 8367 votes more than the BJP candidate Kshirsagar Sanjay Dattatraya and won the elections. The winner from the Solapur City North seat was Vijay Sidramappa Deshmukh who scored 68878 votes more than the NCP contestant Mahesh Chandrakant Gadekar. The Solapur City Central winner was INC’s Shinde Praniti Sushilkumar who scored 9769 votes more than the runner up of AIMIM Shekh Taufik Is Mail. From the Akkalkot constituency, Siddharam Satlingappa Mhetre of INC won with a margin of 17644 votes than the runner-up candidate Patil Sidramappa Malakappa BJP. The Solapur South winner was Deshmukh Subhash Sureshchandra of BJP who got 27123 votes more than Dilip Brahmdev Mane of INC. the winner from the Pandharpur seat was INC candidate Bhalake Bharat Tukaram who got 8913 votes more than the SWP contestant Paricharak Shailendra Alias Prashant Prabhakar.

Solapur assembly election date 2019 and candidate list from big parties

Railway Minister <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh-Prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword> today flagged off the first indigenously built '<keyword id="195876" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Medha">Medha</keyword>' rake on the western corridor of the city, according to a <keyword id="6367495" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PTI">PTI</keyword> news report. 
 "We are proud to have built this rake under the Make in India campaign. We are working on various railway projects worth Rs 51,000 crore for the people of Mumbai city, besides projects worth Rs 1.36 lakh crore are underway for the state of <keyword id="13126" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword>," <keyword id="19179" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="prabhu">Prabhu</keyword> said in his speech. 
 Two Medha rakes were on a trial mode since last two years and have been designed and built at the <keyword id="49000" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Integral-Coach-Factory">Integral Coach Factory</keyword> in Chennai. 
 The seats of these trains are ergonomically designed for better seating comfort of the passengers. The cost of each Medha rake is Rs 43.23 crore, as against Rs 44.36 crore spent for <keyword id="117791" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bombardier">Bombardier</keyword> rakes. 
 
Prabhu said his ministry was on a "mission mode" to transform the Railways. 
 
"We have chalked out a roadmap to transform the railway and therefore, we have prepared the blueprint of long-term, short-term and medium-term investment to achieve this target. Most importantly, railway authorities have been vested powers to use the fund according to their profile," said Prabhu. 
 During the event, Prabhu also flagged off Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Tatanagar-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus <keyword id="3260043" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Antyodaya-Express">Antyodaya Express</keyword> (bi-weekly). 
 Having a seating capacity of 2,000, the <keyword id="113158" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Antyodaya">Antyodaya</keyword> Express is meant to be a long-distance, fully unreserved, super-fast train service, which will cover the distance between the two cities in 25 hours. 
 
20-general-coach Antyodaya train has many advanced amenities like water purifiers, fire extinguishers, mobile charging points, anti-theft arrangement, cushioned luggage racks with coat hooks, LED lights and bio-toilets. 
 The regular service will leave <keyword id="426621" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lokmanya-Tilak-Terminus">Lokmanya Tilak Terminus</keyword> at 1.20 PM every Tuesday and Saturday and enroute the train will halt at Igatpuri, Bhusaval, Nagpur, Gondia, Durg, <keyword id="45327" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raipur">Raipur</keyword>, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Chakradharpur stations. 
 Prabhu also flagged off Miraj- Solapur-Miraj Express daily train through a video link, besides announcing <keyword id="4309574" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lokmanya-tilak-terminus-lucknow-lokmanya-tilak">Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Lucknow-Lokmanya Tilak</keyword> Terminus AC Superfast (weekly), which will commence its regular services from April 8, 2017. 
 
He also laid foundation stone for the construction of the fourth line between Bhusaval-Jalgaon a 24-km stretch at an approximate cost of Rs 260 crores. 
 
During the event, Prabhu also inaugurated the mechanised laundry installed at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (coaching depot) having capacity of 13,000 bed rolls per day.

<keyword id="1851542" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="maratha-groups" source="Orion">Maratha groups</keyword> continued their protests for the third day across several districts in the state to press for reservation for the community here on Tuesday. Alarmed by the spread of agitation, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has convened an all-party meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday to discuss and resolve the issue. Maratha legislators from all political parties staged a protest near the Gandhi statue outside Mantralaya in Nariman Point and are likely to meet Governor Ramesh Bais later demanding a special legislature session to finalise the community quotas. The great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Tushar A. Gandhi said that the Centre had very successfully engineered violence in New Delhi to scuttle the anti-CAA-NRC protests that had become a big embarrassment for the government. "Now the same modus operandi has been employed in Maharashtra to defame and derail the Maratha reservation agitation," said <keyword id="97377" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tushar-gandhi" source="Orion">Tushar Gandhi</keyword> sharply. Another incident of arson on a government office was reported from Jalna where a village panchayat office was torched by some unknown persons raising pro-quota slogans. Scores of Maratha activists lay down on the railway tracks in Solapur and blocked the passage of at least one long-distance train even as police attempted to clear the railway lines. A local office of the Bharatiya Janata Party was set ablaze at Naiknagar in Hingoli district, while a large number of Maratha activists got down in a stream in Pune for a 'jal-samadhi' protest. Public bus services remained shut for the second day in parts of Parbhani district and in Malkapur, Buldhana district, protestors smeared black paint on posters of the CM on a vehicle. Scores of Marathas launched relay hunger strikes at Chunabhatti in Mumbai and Mungse village in Nashik district demanding immediate announcement of quotas. Schools and colleges remained shut on Tuesday in Shevgaon, Ahmednagar district and students participated in the protests. In Pune, protestors blocked the Pune-Bengaluru Highway by throwing burning truck tyres on the Navale Bridge and squatting on the road, raising anti-government slogans, as 10-km long traffic snarls developed on both sides of the important thoroughfare. A large number of activists took out a symbolic 'funeral' procession of the state government in Tembhurni, Solapur district, while half a dozen services of the Nagpur-Pune sleeper bus services were suspended for the day. In Beed, which was rocked by large-scale arson and violence on Monday, a Nationalist Congress Party (SP) activist <keyword id="13209654" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="yogesh-kshirsagar" source="Orion">Yogesh Kshirsagar</keyword> alleged that the torching of his MLA brother Sandeep R. Kshirsagar was "a pre-planned conspiracy". "Before setting our house on fire, someone had snapped off the power supply here, the miscreants who indulged in stone-pelting were carrying bottles filled with petrol, and the police proved totally incapable of stopping them," claimed Yogesh Kshirsagar. The Shivba Sanghatana President Manoj Jarange-Patil, whose indefinite hunger strike entered the seventhday on Tuesday, again appealed to his supporters in the state to refrain from any violence and carry out a peaceful agitation.

Arson, roadblocks rock Maha on third day of Maratha pro-quota protests

The <keyword id="6354977" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="supreme-court" source="Orion">Supreme Court</keyword> on Thursday sentenced former Ranbaxy promoters Malvinder Singh and Shivinder Singh to 6 months imprisonment in a case connected with the sale of shares of <keyword id="89365" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="fortis" source="Orion">Fortis</keyword> to Malaysia-based IHH Healthcare. A bench, headed by Chief Justice U.U. Lalit, declined to lift its stay on the open offer by IHH Healthcare Berhad for a 26 percent stake in <keyword id="46994" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fortis-healthcare" source="Orion">Fortis Healthcare</keyword>. It asked the Delhi High Court to issue remand in the case and also ordered a forensic audit of the Fortis-IIH deal. "Everything goes back to the executing court," it said. The former promoters of Fortis Healthcare Ltd were embroiled in a court battle after <keyword id="85190" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="daiichi-sankyo" source="Orion">Daiichi Sankyo</keyword>, a Japanese firm, had challenged the Fortis-IHH share deal to recover the Rs 3,600 crore arbitration award that it had won before a Singapore tribunal against the Singh brothers. Due to a legal fight between Daiichi Sankyo and the former promoters of Fortis Healthcare, the IHH-Fortis deal is stuck. The top court also slapped the Singh brothers with a fine in the contempt case filed against them by the Japanese firm. Daiichi Sankyo moved the court to enforce the arbitral award passed by a Singapore tribunal in 2016. The Delhi High Court, in January 2018, ruled that the arbitration award won by Daiichi Sankyo against the Singh brothers for concealing information about the erstwhile Ranbaxy Laboratories, was enforceable in India. In 2018, IHH Healthcare had acquired a 31 percent controlling stake in Fortis, which triggered a mandatory open offer to acquire another 26 percent of Fortis shares from the market. However, the open offer could not move forward due to ongoing legal proceedings with respect to the transaction based on a plea filed by Daiichi Sankyo. <ul><li><keyword id="3480589" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="meesho" source="Orion">Meesho</keyword> witnessed nearly a five-fold increase in the number of orders during its ‘Maha Indian Savings Sale’.</li><li>The company also claimed that 78% of its demand came from Tier 2 markets like Bhilal, Guntur, Hubli and Kollam.</li><li>Meesho claimed that nearly 1 lakh sellers have participated in the recent sale, out of which 26,000 were new.</li></ul>Facebook-backed ecommerce company Meesho claims to have recorded 5.35 million (53.5 lakh) orders during its one-day sale held earlier this week on Sunday (June 5), translating to over 60 orders every second. Meesho noted that it witnessed nearly a five-fold increase in the number of orders during its one-day sale this year, compared to 1 million orders in its 2021 sale. The company also claimed that 8 out of 10 orders came from Tier 2 markets like Bhilal, Guntur, Hubli, Kollam, Meerut and Port Blair. Top categories to witness the highest growth during the sale were Apparel, Kidswear, Consumer Electronics and Home Decor. Meesho claimed that nearly 1 lakh sellers have participated in the recent sale – and 3 out of 4 were from Tier 2+ regions like Bathinda, Haldwani, Solapur and Tirunelveli among others. “Participating sellers witnessed ~217% increase in orders during the sale event compared to business-as-usual (BAU),” the company added. About 26,000 sellers participated in Meesho’s sale for the first time. “Despite rising inflation and macroeconomic conditions, we hit an all-new record of 5.35 million orders during the one-day sale event, serving over ~20,000+ pincodes. In the last 6 months, we have witnessed a ~3.75X jump in seller participation in sale events,” Utkrishta Kumar, CXO of Business at Meesho, said. Founded in 2015 by Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal, Meesho is an ecommerce company that has raised over a billion dollars till date. The company’s investors include Meta (formerly known as Facebook), SoftBank, Trifecta Capital Advisors, Fidelity Management and Research Company and others. The company — whose mobile app has been downloaded 102 million times — was valued at <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/meesho-raises-more-than-half-a-billion-dollars-in-the-fourth-biggest-funding-round-this-year/articleshow/86636161.cms">$4.9 billion </a>in September 2021. It claims to have over 44 million products listed on its platform. Meesho competes with other ecommerce giants Amazon, Flipkart and Reliance’s JioMart. Although JioMart was founded four years after Meesho, the company was operating under the social commerce industry then. The company pivoted to the social commerce model only last year.
