<ul><li>Snapdeal added 6 million new buyers on its platform during the pandemic.</li><li>Its recent 5-day sale kicked-off on October 16 and ended on October 20. </li><li>Rajnish Wahi, Senior Vice President, Snapdeal tells us some of the trends the platform saw during its pre-Diwali sale, its plan to go deeper into Bharat and USPs that helped it stand out in the clutter of online sales. </li></ul>Indian consumers have always been value-conscious, who take pride in their haggling skills and with the pandemic, buyers are expecting greater value for their spends. Therefore, e-commerce player Snapdeal’s sale, which took place between October 16 to 20, focused on offering ‘Kum Mein Dum Diwali,’ i.e., value deals for lesser money. According to Snapdeal, less than 5% percent of retail is online and during this on-going <keyword id="36208" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="festive-season">festive season</keyword>, the platform’s aim is to bring more users online and give them strong reasons to switch. Snapdeal observed that consumers weren’t willing to buy premium brands this year and wanted to access the online platforms in their regional language. So, as other e-commerce platforms offered premium brands at a discounted price, Snapdeal wanted to make online shopping more inclusive for buyers across India. It focused more on non-metro cities, which is a market with potential 400 million users and shipped orders to rural places like Palasner in Maharashtra, Abdasa in Gujarat, Kalsi in Uttarakhand, Chitkul in Himachal among many others. Ahead of the sale, Snapdeal added 1300 new pin codes to go deeper into Bharat, areas which were previously unserviceable or where users were compelled to travel to nearby towns to collect their orders. It also updated its user interface by adding eight languages including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Marathi. As a result, 70% of its orders were received by sellers located beyond the top 5 metropolitan areas of the country and 90% of its orders were placed from non-metro cities. We caught up with Rajnish Wahi, Senior Vice President, Snapdeal to further understand some of trends that the platform saw during its sale. Excerpts: Q. The role of engagement and communication has never been more important, especially in today’s digital-first world. How are you making sure your communication during this year's sale is relevant to consumers? Snapdeal is sharply focused on catering to the value-conscious consumers, who see e-commerce as the connecting link between their aspirations, access and affordability. Our theme for this year’s festive sale - “Kum Mein Dum Diwali '' clearly communicates our core message - your shopping rupee has more value this year. As part of our sale preparations, we had conducted a survey of nearly 1.25 Lakh users and one of the key insights was user unwillingness to pay for brand premiums this year and instead focus on the functional value of their purchases. Based on these inputs, the festive assortment was expanded in a focused manner by on-boarding additional sellers for popular products like kitchen appliances, kitchenware, bed linen, apparel, footwear and fashion accessories like watches, wallets, etc. Shaping our sale offers around the clearly-stated expectations of our customers and conveying the same unambiguously through our festive promotions and digital marketing is the sum and substance of our festive communication. Q. This year is different. People have been observed to be judicious in spending. How has the consumer sentiment improved? While 2020 has been a volatile year, we see that there are many tailwinds that are propelling our business. The pandemic has resulted in redistribution of demand between offline and online channels, with online gaining share due to its inherent advantages of reach, convenience, large assortment and safety of buying from home. It has also accelerated the familiarity and acceptance of e-commerce amongst new buyers. With the pandemic, consumers have become more price conscious and are likely to opt for lesser-priced products, while not compromising on their quality expectations. Given all of this, we have seen two sets of buyers come on Snapdeal - one which is trading up to a better assortment and one that is trading down and opting for better functional value instead of big brands. In fact, we have added 6 million new buyers on our platform in the pandemic. We are witnessing the return of enthusiasm for festivities and it is also apparent that online channels will be a preferred medium for a larger number of buyers this year. But it will also be different this year, as more people will be price conscious and will look to spend on quality products that suit their price sensibilities. In a way, Snapdeal’s “Kum Me Dum” focus is about “offering more choices at price points better than last year”, especially for popular categories like home &amp; fashion, which has been made possible by year-long focus on expanding our value selection. Q. With the on-going festive season, many other platforms will have their Sales days too. How do you then cut the clutter and make sure you win consumers? How will you be different from the other players in the segment? Snapdeal is synonymous with value e-commerce. While others in the industry are now starting to build a value segment, we at Snapdeal have been focused on “only value” for the last three years. While other platforms are making efforts to sell branded items at discounted prices, these are still not affordable for a majority of the buyers in the country. On the other hand, we are focussed on bringing the depth and diversity of India's bazaars &amp; markets to the doorsteps of our users. On Snapdeal, buyers find endless varieties of regional and local brands that not only serve their needs, but also offer immense value at affordable prices. The result of our “Kum Mein Dum” Diwali sale bears testimony to this - more than 80% of Snapdeal’s Diwali shoppers chose to buy regional &amp; local brands on Snapdeal. The strong growth of lesser-known brands relative to national/international brands has been because of two key reasons: increased choice and a substantial price difference. Our value-focused positioning runs consistently through our selection and communication and is one the reasons why 90% of our orders flow from non-metros cities and towns across the country. Q. What are some of the other trends you are expecting to see this festive? Our first sales results are out and are reflective of how close the lives of users revolve around their homes. The sale in the home products category has grown by 30% over last year and has become the largest category on Snapdeal this year, overtaking the fashion category, which has traditionally been the top-performer at Snapdeal. The growth in the home category is propelled by popular products like kitchen appliances, kitchenware, bed &amp; bath,decor,cleaning equipment, lighting and comforters &amp; blankets etc. This growth in the fitness category reflects the extra time that people have on their hands and also underscores heightened awareness about personal health &amp; fitness. This category has grown by 45% over last year led by gym essentials like tummy trimmers, push-up bars, wrist supports, fitness gloves, hand grip strengtheners etc. Users buying sports equipment like badminton racquets &amp; cricket sets and weighing machines are also strong consumer trends. While the fashion category has also grown from previous years in terms of shipped units, the growth is less than other higher-performing categories. In the fashion category, there is an increased spending on kidswear in the festive season. . Among popular picks in Snapdeal’s Diwali sale are men’s &amp; women’s grooming products, nutritional supplements, religious items (prayer books, temples accessories etc). With the deterioration of air quality in North India, the sale of N95 masks, air-purifier filters, anti-pollution skincare items, skin moisturisers, lip balms has also increased. Snapdeal also witnessed an increase in gifting via e-commerce early in this festive season. The range of festivals starting with Karva Chauth and followed by Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhaiya Dooj and Chhath Puja have become important gifting occasions for users in various parts of the country. While in the previous years, shoppers used e-commerce channels to buy and ship to families &amp; friends in other cities, this year many shoppers in metro cities are also sending gifts to people living in the same cities. This year gift cards have also been hugely popular among people to send to their friends and family, with a 3X surge in orders as compared to the festive sale last year. These included gift cards of travel, entertainment, food and retail brands which were upto 30% off. Q. How are you working towards improving the overall consumer experience? E-Commerce in India has grown beyond the first 100 Mn largely urban, English-speaking users. A market of potentially 400 Mn users is now emerging across India’s smaller non-metro cities. This is a very diverse cohort in terms of languages spoken, literacy levels, frequency of online purchases and familiarity with technology. A large part of Snapdeal’s existing user base and new users come from this cohort and all our focus and efforts are on building the right experience that our users want. That means we work tirelessly to give them a wide array of products to choose from, and at just the right prices they are looking to spend. We also make it easy in many other ways for users to buy on Snapdeal. This includes providing interfaces on our app &amp; m-site in eight Indian languages, so that they can browse through products &amp; transact in a language of their choice. We also enable conversation with our customer service agents in multiple Indian languages. Transaction and promotional messages all are available in many Indian languages. Some other ways, in which we support our users to buy is by helping them make well-informed choices through short 10-second product videos which are far more captivating and help buyers to make decisions faster than static pictures of the products concerned, easy 7-days return, no questions asked refunds policy. We are the only platform that provides uninterrupted access to cash-on-delivery option even during the turbulent early days of pandemic lockdowns. Q. Which are your strongest markets currently? How are you planning to strengthen your presence in other markets? We have a strong pan India presence. During the current sale and consistent with Snapdeal’s positioning, more than 90% of Snapdeal’s orders were placed from non-metro cities. Populous cities like Nagpur, Vijayawada, Surat, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Visakhapatnam, Ranchi, Patna, Guwahati and others continued to drive orders on Snapdeal, but smaller cities like Sagar (Madhya Pradesh), Raniganj &amp; Durgapur (West Bengal), Patiala &amp; Gurdaspur (Punjab), Anand, Bharuch, Una, (Gujarat), Miryalaguda (Andhra Pradesh) and Bhimavaram (Telangana) also clock impressive order volumes. With our recent network expansion, Snapdeal has also shipped orders to rural places like Palasner in Maharashtra, Abdasa in Gujarat, Kalsi in Uttarakhand, Chitkul in Himachal amidst many others. Q. What are your current MAUs? More than 70 million users visit Snapdeal every month to browse and buy from our vast catalogue of 220 million plus listings. Q. What kind of target have you set for this year's sale? Do you anticipate people to buy more, considering a lot of people might have pushed buying things for the festive season? What kind of numbers do you aim to reach this year? Less than five percent of retail is online, which is an incredibly small penetration number. In our view, Diwali or not, our job to bring more buying options for our users doesn’t change. Diwali does serve as a milestone to accelerate some of our related initiatives or build virtual infrastructure to connect the dots between demand and supply in our country. This year, ahead of the festive season, we on-boarded additional sellers of popular products like kitchen appliances, kitchenware, bed linen, apparel, footwear and fashion accessories like watches, wallets, etc., as indicated by our users in a survey. In the run-up to Diwali, Snapdeal also on-boarded 5000 manufacturer-sellers who sell products like water purifiers, choppers &amp; blenders, steel &amp; copper utensils, crockery items, bedsheets, quilts, geysers, etc directly from their manufacturing units. This year, we knew more and more people would be buying online and ahead of the sale, and expanded our network to add 1300 new pin codes to go deeper into areas which were previously unserviceable or where users were compelled to travel to nearby towns to collect their orders, reaching out to 50 million additional users. Today, we are India's leading value-focused marketplace with more than 500,000 registered sellers and we cover 27000 + pin code areas across the length and breadth of the country.

Why Snapdeal targeted non-metro cities and rural India during its pre-Diwali sale

These gamification initiatives incentivize users in a variety of ways through instant rewards, special deals etc. Snapdeal also witnessed a hike its web traffic. In October 2019, the monthly traffic on Snapdeal crossed 240 million visits – recording an all-time high. As per audited financials for the FY 2019-20, Snapdeal’s consolidated revenues grew by 73% – from ₹535.9 crore in FY 18 to ₹925.3 crore in FY19. Simultaneously, it also reduced its loss by 71% – from ₹611 crore in FY 18 to ₹ 186 crore in FY 19. In the recently concluded Diwali season, Snapdeal saw growth not just in terms of traffic and app downloads but also witnessed 52% increase in order volumes this festive season, with 90% of its orders coming from non-metro users. Snapdeal’s growth in traffic and increase in volumes is also due to the deepening of its focus on value-priced merchandise. In the last two years, Snapdeal has added 60,000+ new seller partners, who have added over 50 Million new listings aimed at building a deep assortment of products relevant for value-savvy buyers. Snapdeal now has more than 500,000 registered sellers, who have more than 200 million listings on the marketplace.

Snapdeal crosses 100 million app downloads; user base grows by 37%

In a bid to attract more and more customers, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has integrated with companies like <keyword id="6359128" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Redbus">Redbus</keyword>, Zomato and <keyword id="132652" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cleartrip">Cleartrip</keyword> so that customers can directly use the mobile app to book bus tickets, flight tickets, hotel tickets and order food. 
 
While Cleartrip, Zomato and RedBus have got access to Snapdeal's huge user base, Snapdeal will be earning a commission for each booking for these companies made through its app. 
 
This can prove to be <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-is-now-valued-over-6-billion-Thanks-to-200-mnfunding/articleshow/50992078.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">financially beneficial for Snapdeal</a> since booking air tickets is a large gross merchandise value (GMV) category and food ordering is category that sees high frequency. 
 
"Horizontals are looking at monetising their user base with a focus on GMV and repeat use cases. As funding environment becomes tougher, growth in these metrics will stand out," a Snapdeal investor told ET on the condition of anonymity. 
 
It was last year that Snapdeal CEO Kunal Bahl had said that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-aims-to-overthrow-Flipkart-says-CEO-Kunal-Bahl/articleshow/48741092.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">they would surpass archrival Flipkart</a> in terms of GMV by March 2016, declaring an open war in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Swords-are-drawn-Snapdeal-and-Flipkart-are-challenging-each-other-to-become-numero-uno/articleshow/48770391.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Indian e-commerce space</a>. 
 
GMV refers to the overall sales by merchants on an e-commerce platform, without factoring discounts. Out of these, the e-tailer gets 5 to 20% as margin on an average. 
 
It was only two months back that Snapdeal had tied up with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Now-buyProperty-on-Sale-from-Snapdeal/articleshow/50589572.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">real estate developers</a> to launch real estate and financial services on its website, to boost the GMVs.

<ul><li><keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has announced a consolidated revenue of ₹925.3 crore with a 73% jump in revenue. </li><li>The e-commerce platform has also cut its losses by 71%. </li><li>Over 50 employees have returned to join the company, which has seen a turnaround in business since it launched <keyword id="4831590" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Snapdeal-2-0">Snapdeal 2.0</keyword> in July 2017.</li></ul>Indian e-commerce startup Snapdeal said that it has bounced back from its troubles clocking a 73% jump in revenue in the last financial year. As per regulatory documents filed by Snapdeal, its consolidated revenues grew to ₹925.3 crores in 2018-19 as compared to ₹535.9 in 2017-18. The e-commerce platform also reduced its losses to ₹186 crores in FY19 as compared to ₹611 crores in FY18. “Our transacting customers grew 2.2 times and traffic surged 2.3 times to 70 million unique users/month. And all this in a year when the e-commerce companies in India burnt through $2.5 billion in the pursuit of growth,” said <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword>, Snapdeal’s CEO &amp; Co-founder, in a blog. In 2017, Snapdeal, which was actually one of the early e-commerce players in the country, was caught in the grip of increased competition from Amazon and Flipkart. The company lost a huge chunk of its market share and posted a net loss of ₹4,638 Crores in 2016-17.. Soon after, there were many speculations about the company being in the verge of a shutdown as a merger with Flipkart too didn’t work out. However, the founders Kunal Bahl and <keyword id="396598" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rohit-Bansal">Rohit Bansal</keyword> decided to turnaround the fate of their business and launched Snapdeal 2.0 in July 2017. “Our strategy is to focus on the needs of the value-conscious buyers in India – they constitute the bulk of our users. They are also the fastest-growing mega segment in Indian e-commerce and will be nearly 400 million strong over the next few years,” Bahl said in the blog. And in the last two years, Snapdeal has gone on to add over 60,000 new seller partners, who have added over 50 million new listings on the platform. Snapdeal’s work culture too has seen a turnaround, with a swanky new office, television sets across the open office where top performers are appreciated. It has also seen its employees return to be a part of its growth story. About 50 employees have returned to Snapdeal in the last one year, which includes one of its chief architects who had gone on to join a foodtech unicorn as the CTO. The company says that the average tenure of an employee in the company is now over 4 years and even has employees who have celebrated a decade with Snapdeal.

Snapdeal’s ache din – says it’s revenue jumped 73% and losses are down to less than a third

This spring seems to be the season of merger and acquisitions in India. While we have heard about several of them, the recent buzz was created by one the leading eCommerce companies in the country, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>. It has acquired the online mobile recharge platform <keyword id="6377963" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Freecharge">FreeCharge</keyword>. Soon after taking over fashion website exclusively.com, FreeCharge is the largest buyout so far in the Indian consumer Internet sector history in India. 
 
And this move has confirmed Snapdeal as a fierce competitor in the online retain sector. The Delhi-based company did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction, but as per a news report by The Economic Times, Snapdeal probablt has paid over Rs 2,800 crore ($450 million) in cash and stock. 
 
"We want to target the new tsunami of users who are going to come on to the Internet. This (acquisition) improves our ability to acquire users at a significant velocity at a very low cost," Kunal Bahl, cofounder and CEO of Snapdeal told the ET.As per confirmed sources, Bahl led the negotiations for FreeCharge, which lasted about a month. 
 
Snapdeal, which began by selling printed coupon booklets, has pivoted —or changed its business model — seven times until it hit the right note as an online marketplace. It has since received funding from some of the world's biggest corporations, including eBay and Japan's SoftBank, from which it raised $627 million in October. The deal also marks the entry of Sequoia Capital — a significant shareholder in FreeCharge and the most prolific investor in India last year — into the online retail sector where rival venture capital firm Accel Partners enjoys a head start because of its early bet on market leader Flipkart, according to The Economic Times.

New Delhi, Nov 19 () E-commerce marketplace Snapdeal on Tuesday said it has joined International Trademark Association (INTA) as part of its efforts to support protection of intellectual property on online marketplaces.
INTA is a global association that has more than 7,200 members across 187 countries. Its existing members include marketplaces, like Alibaba, that have implemented many IP protection programmes.
Its members also comprise large brand owners, small and medium enterprises, government offices and non-profits, among others. INTA aims to protect and promote the rights of trademark owners, support efforts for the advancement of trademark rights and work towards the development of appropriate legislation in this regard.
"Snapdeal is committed to collaborating with the right stakeholders to address the issue of trademark counterfeiting. Snapdeal's association with INTA will allow us to share industry insights and technical know-how in the global fight against those infringing intellectual property rights," a Snapdeal spokesperson said.
The issue of unscrupulous sellers mis-using online marketplaces to sell counterfeits is a global problem, where the marketplaces are as much a victim of the fraud as the buyers are, the spoksperson added.
"Hence, the opportunity to share best practices and learn from the experiences of others is a valuable aspect of INTA's initiatives," the company said.
Over the last one year, Snapdeal has rolled out a variety of measures that allow brands to protect their IP on the marketplace. Snapdeal's 'Brand Shield', which was launched last year, offers brands a single point of contact to report suspected counterfeit products being sold on the platform.
Snapdeal also operates a 'Brand Registry' programme that allows sellers on Snapdeal having their own registered brand name, trademarks etc get exclusive rights to sell their product in the relevant categories on the Snapdeal marketplace. More than 1,000 brands are now part of the registry.
Snapdeal has over five lakh independent third-party sellers on its platform, who together have more than 200 million product listings. More than 70 million users visit Snapdeal every month. SR BAL

Snapdeal joins International Trademark Association

It’s acquisition time for Indian ecommerce companies. More the ecommerce in India are gaining foothold, the key players in the sector are pulling up newbies under the fold. <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>, which has acquired <keyword id="2871211" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mobi-Kwik">Mobi Kwik</keyword>, an online payment platform recently has hit the headlines once more. This time, it’s Snapdeal’s parent company <keyword id="6481662" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jasper-Infotech">Jasper Infotech</keyword>, which has acquired mobile commerce startup <keyword id="2868543" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="MartMobi">Martmobi</keyword>, its 10th buyout, for an undisclosed sum. 
 
As per a news report in The Economic Times, Hyderabad-based Martmobi's mobile-specific platform and solutions allow small and medium-sized businesses and brands to build mobile stores and apps that can connect with customers' existing back-end systems. The company, formed in 2008, also provides real-time analytics to improve conversions and user engagement. 
 
"They've done a great job in solving merchant problems when it comes to mobile internet. We have already done a lot of work in that area, and we expect this acquisition to take us to the next level," Rohit Bansal, co-founder and chief operating officer of Snapdeal told the ET. 
 
Snapdeal, which has 40 million users, sees about 75% of its total sales through mobile phones, according to the company. 
 
The company has been actively scouting for acquisitions in the broader mobile and data analytics segment, and since the start of 2015 it has already announced four buyouts, including the $450 million (about Rs 2,880 crore) cash-and-stock acquisition of mobile recharge and payments venture Freecharge in April. 
 "It is all about getting to the market early with the technology. While <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> has access to its global tech pool, <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> and Snapdeal will continue to acquire mobile tech firms," Ratul Ghosh, former <keyword id="373910" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="head-of-strategy">head of strategy</keyword> at <keyword id="161767" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="eBay-India">eBay India</keyword> and former <keyword id="2871210" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="chair-of-e-commerce-committee">chair of e-commerce committee</keyword> told the financial daily. 
 In an exclusive chat with the ET last month, Snapdeal <keyword id="24211" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="chief-executive">Chief Executive</keyword> <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword> said that the company was aiming to make about 10 more acquisitions in the current fiscal. While the company did not disclose the size of its war chest, its recent purchases have been fuelled by the nearly $1 billion (about Rs 6,400 crore) it raised last year. 
 The company, which is in the midst of an attritional war with rival online marketplaces Flipkart and Amazon, is backed by a host of marquee strategic and financial investors, including <keyword id="6355311" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Japan">Japan</keyword>'s <keyword id="163404" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Softbank">SoftBank</keyword>, BlackRock, eBay and PremjiInvest, the personal investment arm of <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> <keyword id="6364480" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chairman">chairman</keyword> <keyword id="6419840" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Azim-Premji">Azim Premji</keyword>.

Investors just gave it $50 million in a Series C financing; it has raised more than $100 million total.
<a href="http://techcrunch.com/2013/04/01/ebay-builds-up-its-bric-strategy-leads-50m-investment-in-india-e-commerce-giant-snapdeal/">Amazon and eBay both reportedly wanted a piece</a> of the company, but <keyword id="6357395" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="eBay">eBay</keyword> was able to nudge out its competitor and lead the round. eBay has aggressive growth plans over the next three years, and it believes a good portion of that growth (12%) will come from BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia India and China). So it's easy to see why they'd want to get a piece of <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>.
According to TechCrunch, Snapdeal's gross merchandise value is growing 400% year over year, and it's expected to generate ~ $400 million in sales this year from its 20 million users.
When we spoke with the company in late 2011, it had 10 million members and was growing by 1.5 million members per month.
"Eighty percent of our revenue comes from everyday merchandise, and much of that comes from people interested in and driven by promoted daily deals," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ebay-plans-to-double-its-sales-to-300-billion-in-the-next-3-years-and-take-on-amazon-2013-3">Snapdeal founder and CEO Kunal Bahl</a> told Business Insider then.

New Delhi, June 11 (IANSlife) With the mercury climbing fast, summer apparel sales have shown a quick growth in e-commerce sales. In May, nearly 40 per cent of all products sold at online marketplace Snapdeal itself, were summer clothes. Apparel, is a traditionally a high selling category on the platform, and it has registered increased sales after the relaxation of selling non-essential products online. According to the platform, the demand for apparels has picked up again and is close to the level of pre-COVID sales. A Snapdeal survey conducted in May 2020 with users across India revealed that while families traditionally enjoyed shopping at the mall, are now looking for safer options to shop. 95 per cent of the respondents preferred online shopping for apparels over retail outlets. Comfort and value were the top two considerations for consumers as they made apparel purchases. The perceived brand value was not an equally important factor as consumers preferred seller brands with attractive prices. What's selling? Kids summer wear is leading in terms of demand. In the survey, buyers said they prioritised kids needs over other needs and that garments for children are a more immediate need because of frequent size changes. T-Shirts, tracks and pyjamas, jumpsuits, shorts, infant wear, and sandals make for popular kidswear on the site. In the men's fashion category, cotton T-shirts in plain colors and prints, Bermuda shorts, and cargo shorts are a hit. Round neck, henley neck and sleeveless t-shirts are in vogue. Open sandals and flip flops priced are another popular pick with buyers. Amongst women shoppers, comfy leggings, loose fit and regular shorts, round neck t-shirts, tops in bright colors, dresses, and kaftan summer dresses were popular choices. The popular price range for casual fashion was Rs 500-800, said Snapdeal. 75 per cent of the shoppers on Snapdeal opted for seller-branded value apparel mostly served by sellers from Ludhiana, Bengaluru, Delhi, Tirupur and Jaipur. "Last month, the sale in the apparel category was all about catching up with overdue functional needs like nightwear, undergarments, and track pants etc. With children at home and more people continuing to work from home and summer in full swing, users are now making smart, casual additions to their wardrobes", said a Snapdeal spokesperson.(Siddhi Jain can be contacted at siddhi.j@ians.in) --IANS sj/tb/sdr/

It’s been just 10 days that <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> redesigned its website, but looks like there is more on the mind of the SoftBank-backed company, as it looks forward to adding new features and further improving the user experience. 
 
As per reports, these new features would include product selfies, enhanced order-tracking and a new 'my order' page. 
 
"The product has been redesigned to improve the overall information architecture," Anand Chandrasekaran, chief product officer, told ET. 
 
Talking of 'product selfie', it allows users to post a selfie with the product they bought from the website. "We have had a phenomenal response to it so far as customers get to see actual people using the product," Chandrasekaran said. 
 
In the past six-seven months, Snapdeal has made extensive use of technology to improve efficiency and customer experience. As per the company claims, delivery times have been brought down by 70-75% in the past year because of investments done in the logistics company GoJavas. Also, refunds from the company are now based on the Immediate Payment Service (IMPS). 
 
"Since September 2015, 93% of refunds are being done within 30 minutes. It has been integrated with the wallet on the back-end to make the whole experience seamless for the customer," Chandrasekharan said. 
 
In addition to this, we have also seen smaller launches like SnapLite, which enables users with slow network connections to access a lighter version of the website, and Snapsearch, which allows users to upload pictures and find similar products on the website.
