These gamification initiatives incentivize users in a variety of ways through instant rewards, special deals etc. Snapdeal also witnessed a hike its web traffic. As per regulatory documents filed by Snapdeal, its consolidated revenues grew to ₹925.3 crores in 2018-19 as compared to ₹535.9 in 2017-18. The e-commerce platform also reduced its losses to ₹186 crores in FY19 as compared to ₹611 crores in FY18. “Our transacting customers grew 2.2 times and traffic surged 2.3 times to 70 million unique users/month. And all this in a year when the e-commerce companies in India burnt through $2.5 billion in the pursuit of growth,” said <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword>, Snapdeal’s CEO &amp; Co-founder, in a blog. In 2017, Snapdeal, which was actually one of the early e-commerce players in the country, was caught in the grip of increased competition from Amazon and Flipkart. The company lost a huge chunk of its market share and posted a net loss of ₹4,638 Crores in 2016-17.. Soon after, there were many speculations about the company being in the verge of a shutdown as a merger with Flipkart too didn’t work out. However, the founders Kunal Bahl and <keyword id="396598" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rohit-Bansal">Rohit Bansal</keyword> decided to turnaround the fate of their business and launched Snapdeal 2.0 in July 2017. “Our strategy is to focus on the needs of the value-conscious buyers in India – they constitute the bulk of our users. They are also the fastest-growing mega segment in Indian e-commerce and will be nearly 400 million strong over the next few years,” Bahl said in the blog. And in the last two years, Snapdeal has gone on to add over 60,000 new seller partners, who have added over 50 million new listings on the platform. Snapdeal’s work culture too has seen a turnaround, with a swanky new office, television sets across the open office where top performers are appreciated. It has also seen its employees return to be a part of its growth story. About 50 employees have returned to Snapdeal in the last one year, which includes one of its chief architects who had gone on to join a foodtech unicorn as the CTO. The company says that the average tenure of an employee in the company is now over 4 years and even has employees who have celebrated a decade with Snapdeal.

Online marketplace <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has been on a hiring spree since past few months and it seems the e-Commerce platform is building a second rung of leadership. 
 
Latest to join the bandwagon in Amit Choudhary who has joined Snapdeal as senior Vice President-Corporate Finance. Jasper Infotech, which owns and runs Snapdeal, made the announcement. 
 Choudhary was serving as the regional finance head for <keyword id="6361491" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Procter-Gamble">Procter &amp; Gamble</keyword>’s (P&amp;G) Asia Pet Care business across 14 countries, including, Japan, Greater China and Australia, before joining Snapdeal. 
 
"We believe that with his experience and expertise Amit will propel us further on our growth trajectory with stronger, more efficient and transparent financial planning and management. We welcome him into the family," said co-founder of Snapdeal, Kunal Bahl. 
At Snapdeal, Choudhary will be driving overall controllership in finance, FP&amp;A and taxation at the group level. 
 
"E-Commerce is one of the most dynamic sectors in the country today and Snapdeal has emerged as a leader in this sector. I am very excited to be a part of the young and dynamic Snapdeal family. I look forward to an exciting journey ahead," Choudhary stated in a press release issued by Snapdeal. 
 
Snapdeal had recently appointed former Bharti Airtel senior executive Anand Chandrasekaran as its chief product officer. 
 
In May, Snapdeal named former Cisco and Symantec executive Gaurav Gupta as its vice-president – Engineering, whereas in April, it brought on board former Unilever Plc executive Vivek Patankar as senior vice-president - finance.

So it's easy to see why they'd want to get a piece of <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>.
According to TechCrunch, Snapdeal's gross merchandise value is growing 400% year over year, and it's expected to generate ~ $400 million in sales this year from its 20 million users.
When we spoke with the company in late 2011, it had 10 million members and was growing by 1.5 million members per month.
"Eighty percent of our revenue comes from everyday merchandise, and much of that comes from people interested in and driven by promoted daily deals," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ebay-plans-to-double-its-sales-to-300-billion-in-the-next-3-years-and-take-on-amazon-2013-3">Snapdeal founder and CEO Kunal Bahl</a> told Business Insider then.

In a bid to attract more and more customers, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has integrated with companies like <keyword id="6359128" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Redbus">Redbus</keyword>, Zomato and <keyword id="132652" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cleartrip">Cleartrip</keyword> so that customers can directly use the mobile app to book bus tickets, flight tickets, hotel tickets and order food. 
 
While Cleartrip, Zomato and RedBus have got access to Snapdeal's huge user base, Snapdeal will be earning a commission for each booking for these companies made through its app. 
 
This can prove to be <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-is-now-valued-over-6-billion-Thanks-to-200-mnfunding/articleshow/50992078.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">financially beneficial for Snapdeal</a> since booking air tickets is a large gross merchandise value (GMV) category and food ordering is category that sees high frequency. 
 
"Horizontals are looking at monetising their user base with a focus on GMV and repeat use cases. As funding environment becomes tougher, growth in these metrics will stand out," a Snapdeal investor told ET on the condition of anonymity. 
 
It was last year that Snapdeal CEO Kunal Bahl had said that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-aims-to-overthrow-Flipkart-says-CEO-Kunal-Bahl/articleshow/48741092.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">they would surpass archrival Flipkart</a> in terms of GMV by March 2016, declaring an open war in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Swords-are-drawn-Snapdeal-and-Flipkart-are-challenging-each-other-to-become-numero-uno/articleshow/48770391.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Indian e-commerce space</a>. 
 
GMV refers to the overall sales by merchants on an e-commerce platform, without factoring discounts. Out of these, the e-tailer gets 5 to 20% as margin on an average. 
 
It was only two months back that Snapdeal had tied up with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Now-buyProperty-on-Sale-from-Snapdeal/articleshow/50589572.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">real estate developers</a> to launch real estate and financial services on its website, to boost the GMVs.

To ensure its consumer loyalty in the cut throat ecommerce market in India, Snapdeal has appointed <keyword id="276976" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jayant-Sood">Jayant Sood</keyword> as the <keyword id="2830937" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="chief-customer-experience-officer">chief customer experience officer</keyword> (CCO). 
 
As reported by The Economic Times, Sood will be responsible for the customer service operations at Snapdeal. 
 For 20 years Sood worked with <keyword id="91294" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="American-Express">American Express</keyword> after, which he worked with Bharti Airtel Ltd as the <keyword id="2830678" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="chief-service-officer">chief service officer</keyword>. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics (Honors) from the <keyword id="2830936" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="University-of-Delhi-and-Chartered-Accountancy">University of Delhi and Chartered Accountancy</keyword> certificate from "The <keyword id="22866" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Institute-of-Chartered-Accountants-of-India">Institute of Chartered Accountants of India</keyword>". 
 
Speaking about his appointment, Sood told the ET, "Snapdeal has seen unprecedented growth in the last three years and is undoubtedly the fastest growing e-commerce company in the country. We are on the road to build world class customer service operations at Snapdeal that will lay the foundation for best in class customer experience."

BANGALORE: <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>, chairman emeritus at Tata Sons, has invested in Delhi-based online marketplace <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>. 
 
The company did not disclose the amount invested. The announcement comes a day after Snapdeal entered into a partnership with Tata Value Homes to sell apartment units of projects spread across five cities, namely, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. 
 
Snapdeal’s cofounder and chief executive Kunal Bahl termed Tata’s investment a validation of the company’s growth. “An investment by a legendary and respected figure like Mr. Tata is an excellent validation of our focused strategy on building a long term enterprise and marks the start of a very important phase for the company,” said Bahl. 
 
This investment also underlines the growing interest shown by India’s traditional industries in the fast-growing ecommerce sector. Recently traditional retail majors like Reliance and Arvind have made forays online. 
 The sector has also attracted large <keyword id="6362476" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="investments">investments</keyword> in the past few months. Snapdeal raised over $233 million this year in two rounds from investors like eBay Inc, Singapore-based Temasek and Wipro chairman Azim Premji’s family office Premji Invest. Market leader Flipkart too raised two rounds of <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> this year. In July it raised $1 billion from existing investors and <keyword id="6356662" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Singapore">Singapore</keyword> sovereign wealth fund GIC. Global major Amazon also announced a $2 billion investment for its India operations in July. 
 
Snapdeal, which is estimated to have crossed $1 billion in sales this year, is rapidly adding new categories of products. Apart from apartments, it has launched a catering supplies segment recently. In the next few months the four-year-old platform is planning to add 10 more categories. Bahl has stated in the past that the company will focus on adding new merchants, new categories and focus on mobile commerce to ensure growth.

Ratan Tata, Tata Group's Chairman Emeritus, Invests In Snapdeal

The newly-appointed chief product officer Anand Chandrasekaran of Snapdeal is quite tech savvy. The proof is his suggestion of doubling Snapdeal’s engineering team to over 2,000 this year. The online marketplace firm intends to be a technology, product and engineering-driven company under the leadership of Chandrasekaran. 
 
As per a news report by The Economic Times, Chandrasekaran, an ex -Bharti Airtel, is building the engineering team, besides attracting top talent to Snapdeal at a time when the company is fiercely competing with rivals Flipkart and Amazon. The expansion of the engineering team also comes when Snapdeal, through a series of strategic acquisitions, has signalled its ambition to build a services platform to stand out in an online marketplace. 
 
"We might even go beyond 2,000 people in the team, knowing that we have had a four-fold growth in our overall manpower over last year. We now have over 5,000 people," Chandrasekaran told the ET. 
 
Chandrasekaran, who is also leading Snapdeal's technology initiatives in payments and cloud, said the company is trying to attract the best talent available in the country and abroad. "We don't think of talent on the basis of what problem we are solving, rather we think of who is the best talent in the country and let's have them in Snapdeal to build better products," he said. Snapdeal is considering setting up a base in the US, in its efforts to strengthen its technology arm, hire more specialists and become the first Indian consumer interncompany to establish a presence in the world's biggest startup hub. The company is also looking at offering services from utilities payments, mobile and DTH recharges to financial products, confirms the ET news report.
