A few days back, we told you how <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has tied up with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/You-can-now-use-the-Snapdeal-app-to-book-tickets-and-order-food-online/articleshow/51340726.cms">Redbus, Zomato and Cleartrip</a> so that its users can book online tickets and order food using the mobile app. 
 This time, however, Snapdeal has entered into a tie-up with that the car cab-booking company <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword>, so that its consumers can book cabs using the app. This makes it one of the most high-profile partnerships in the recent history of India's startup ecosystem. 
 
When contacted by ET, spokespersons from both <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeals-Rohit-Bansal-spills-beans-on-what-next-in-e-commerce-innovation/articleshow/51424704.cms">Snapdeal</a> and Uber declined to comment on the matter. 
 
In the recent past, Snapdeal has regularly updated its app, majorly its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Product-selfies-IMPS-refunds-and-much-more-this-is-how-Snapdeal-is-using-technology-to-improve-user-experience/articleshow/50768069.cms">user interface and user experience</a>, because it wants to evolve from just another ecommerce company to a complete ecosystem of goods and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Heres-why-Indian-e-commerce-players-are-partnering-with-on-demand-services-platforms/articleshow/51408204.cms">services</a>. 
 
Talking of Uber, this deal will give the company access to more than 25-million registered users of the ecommerce company, which can prove to be useful for its ongoing battle with rival Ola.

You can soon book an Uber using your Snapdeal app

It now has segments like flight and bus ticket bookings, hotel reservations and food ordering through partnerships with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Zomato&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Zomato</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Cleartrip&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Cleartrip</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=UrbanClap&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">UrbanClap</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=RedBus&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">RedBus</a>. 
 At a time when <keyword id="35621" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="e-commerce">e-commerce</keyword> majors are struggling with fresh funding and rift with sellers, this all-in-one business model is reminiscent of China’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Dianping&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Dianping</a>, an online portal that offers almost everything from shopping, online reservations, food delivery, and e-coupons, among others. 
 <keyword id="2189133" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dianping">Dianping</keyword> is currently one of China’s most popular restaurant-review and group-buying services. Valued at a solid $4.05 billion, this Shanghai-based startup founded in 2003 is a bit of Yelp and Groupon. Co-founder Zhang Tao launched Dianping in 2003 after he earned his M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania’s <keyword id="6442384" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Wharton-School">Wharton School</keyword>. Interestingly, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> co-founder <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Kunal+Bahl&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Kunal Bahl</a> is a ​Wharton alumni as well. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Dianping&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Dianping</a> was founded a year after Yelp, which was founded in 2004. Currently, Dianping has over 190 million monthly active users and more than 60 million reviews of restaurants and other local businesses. Its services cover over 12 million local businesses in about 2,300 cities across China. 
 
India has an untapped services industry as well. "Online services is an industry potentially worth $100 billion by 2020 and is poised to play a huge role in driving habit commerce in India. The introduction of services on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Snapdeal</a> is a big leap forward in catering to nearly all the consumption needs of our customers," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Snapdeal</a> co-founder <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Rohit+Bansal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Rohit Bansal</a> recently said. 
 
"We will continue to add leading service providers from other categories in our journey to offer a single point access to the widest range of services. We are confident that the introduction of services on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Snapdeal</a> will bring us closer to our goal of 20 million daily transacting users by 2020," Bansal added. 
 
After acquiring mobile recharge platform FreeCharge back in April 2015 for an estimated $ 500 million, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Snapdeal</a> launched recharges and bill payments in March this year. The company claims it has done over a million transactions in a month. 
 
In a recent study by Red Seer Consulting, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Snapdeal</a>’s market share fell from 21-23% in 2015. This has allowed other players to grow. While this is sure to boost the online traffic to Snapdeal’s app, it will also allow for more diverse ways of monetization including native advertising.

Snapdeal may be trying to become India’s Dianping

In a bid to attract more and more customers, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has integrated with companies like <keyword id="6359128" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Redbus">Redbus</keyword>, Zomato and <keyword id="132652" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cleartrip">Cleartrip</keyword> so that customers can directly use the mobile app to book bus tickets, flight tickets, hotel tickets and order food. 
 
While Cleartrip, Zomato and RedBus have got access to Snapdeal's huge user base, Snapdeal will be earning a commission for each booking for these companies made through its app. 
 
This can prove to be <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-is-now-valued-over-6-billion-Thanks-to-200-mnfunding/articleshow/50992078.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">financially beneficial for Snapdeal</a> since booking air tickets is a large gross merchandise value (GMV) category and food ordering is category that sees high frequency. 
 
"Horizontals are looking at monetising their user base with a focus on GMV and repeat use cases. As funding environment becomes tougher, growth in these metrics will stand out," a Snapdeal investor told ET on the condition of anonymity. 
 
It was last year that Snapdeal CEO Kunal Bahl had said that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Snapdeal-aims-to-overthrow-Flipkart-says-CEO-Kunal-Bahl/articleshow/48741092.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">they would surpass archrival Flipkart</a> in terms of GMV by March 2016, declaring an open war in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Swords-are-drawn-Snapdeal-and-Flipkart-are-challenging-each-other-to-become-numero-uno/articleshow/48770391.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Indian e-commerce space</a>. 
 
GMV refers to the overall sales by merchants on an e-commerce platform, without factoring discounts. Out of these, the e-tailer gets 5 to 20% as margin on an average. 
 
It was only two months back that Snapdeal had tied up with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Now-buyProperty-on-Sale-from-Snapdeal/articleshow/50589572.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">real estate developers</a> to launch real estate and financial services on its website, to boost the GMVs. 
 
Talking of user experience, Snapdeal is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Product-selfies-IMPS-refunds-and-much-more-this-is-how-Snapdeal-is-using-technology-to-improve-user-experience/articleshow/50768069.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">heavily using technology</a> to improvise in that area, like having IMPS refunds and product selfies.

You can now use the Snapdeal app to book tickets and order food online

International property consultant JLL India’s residential services division has joined hands with Indian e-commerce giant <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> to market residential real estate in India. With this alliance, they will offer brokerage-free buyer services in primary sales properties, as per the company’s release. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Now-buyProperty-on-Sale-from-Snapdeal/articleshow/50589572.cms">People who buy properties on Snapdeal</a> will now be able to avail on-ground advisory and transaction services from JLL. JLL will also organise guided site visits, help clients negotiate with developers and assist with documentation and mortgages, while Snapdeal will provide the customers with online real estate platform to enable home searches.

Buy houses on Snapdeal without any brokerage fees

India's e-commerce giant online <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> is considering to become an 'everything app,' which customers can use to order food, book a cab, plan tickets for vacation, as well as to buy daily essentials. For this, the Bengaluru-headquartered company has initiated talks with food, cab and travel aggregators seeking possible partnerships for its app-of-apps that it plans to rollout by the end of this year. However, it’s planning to have its own operations and no partnerships for its business of daily essentials. This kind of mega app will allow it to boost customer loyalty, while being able to monetise the huge volumes of customer data that it has, and also adding to its revenue. "The business is targeting a December launch and will follow a WeChat model, where the Flipkart app can be used to book a cab, order food or plan your travel," <keyword id="4621742" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Prakash-Sikaria">Prakash Sikaria</keyword>, senior director of monetisation and new initiatives at Flipkart, told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/flipkart-plans-to-roll-out-the-one-app-to-rule-them-all/articleshow/59119116.cms">ET</a>. "With the launch of loyalty points for all purchases on Flipkart, the Flipkart platform will act as a distribution channel for these services." For customers livin in areas with slow internet because of low-band width, a multi-use app will work especially well. Flipkart might launch a single app to aggregate food, cab and travel

FreeCharge is currently positioned against segment-leader Paytm. can now send and receive money on WhatsApp using FreeCharge

Experience counts. Indian start ups have realized the benefits of recruiting a seasoned executive in the team. The first three Indian startups with a valuation of $ 1 billion - Flipkart, Snapdeal and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Uber-testing-cash-on-deliverymodel-in-Hyderabad-May-roll-out-in-other-cities-soon/articleshow/47245769.cms">Ola</a> having become giants in terms of revenue are relying largely on seasoned executives in key roles, as per a news report by The Economic Times. 
 
Having brought Krishnendu Chaudhury and Ravi Garikipati on board from the Silicon Valley, Flipkart is aiming high in terms of employee’s satisfaction and ambition. 
 
Meanwhile, Peeyush Ranjan, Flipkart's new head of engineering, has started a programme called <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/This-is-where-Flipkart-is-transferring-hundreds-of-its-employees/articleshow/47655386.cms">F24 to fix any problem that engineers face within 24 hours</a>, be it malfunctioning laptops, access to libraries or whatever. "As the organisation gets bigger it has an inherent challenge to stay nimble, and not get bogged down," Ranjan who previously led the engineering group for Google's Android One project told ET. 
 
Aneesh Passi, cofounder of Basil Advisors, which hires for startups, said, "These people (seasoned executives) know massive distribution set ups. They have seen huge scale, managed huge turnovers... that's why companies want to hire them." 
 
Passi, added that the unicorn startups, which have joined $1 billion club, "have the funding now, so they have pressed the accelerator". Ola Cabs too is betting on experienced hands as it looks <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Uber-testing-cash-on-deliverymodel-in-Hyderabad-May-roll-out-in-other-cities-soon/articleshow/47245769.cms">to stay ahead of rival Uber that has started accepting cash payments</a> in certain cities and is making deeper forays into tier two cities, says the news report by the financial daily. 
 
To that end, Ola is relying on its head of new initiatives, Sundeep Sahni, to replicate his success in making Lazada the number one ecommerce portal in Indonesia in his previous stint. "Going deeper in existing markets and creating newer and wider use cases is going to be critical," said Sahni, who joined Ola in mid-July. 
 
"On the functional side, Ola has got its rough edges. Since we are in the business of on demand, if you can remove a fraction of the second, it makes a big difference," Singh, who joined the firm after his five-year-stint at travel portal Cleartrip.com told ET. 
Snapdeal has hired Jeyandran Venugopal, a former Yahoo India executive, to prepare its future technology roadmap and got on board experienced executives to head its strategy and product divisions. 
 
"In ecommerce, only small strides have been made. There is a lot that they can learn from other industries in terms of customer service," Jayant Sood of Snapdeal told the financial daily. "True focus is now coming into digital commerce. My mandate is to transform customer experience and aim to be the best in customer service across industries."

Flipkart, Snapdeal and Ola drive up demand for ‘experienced’ executives in startups

If you have leadership qualities and talent to create wealth, you fit the bill. E-Commerce companies like Flipkart, Amazon, Ola, Uber, Jabong, etc are hiring and offering huge salaries. If estimates of headhunting firms are to be believed, they could roll out 500 jobs with salaries of more than Rs 1 crore each this year. 
 
As per the five search firms including RGF Executive Search and Longhouse Consulting, Snapdeal, Quikr, CommonFloor, Yepme, OLX, Junglee, FashionAndYou, Hungama, BookMyShow, Cleartrip and Lenskart are among companies offering jobs with one-crore-plus salaries. 
 
Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal account for a huge chunk of these offers. 
 
Siddharth Raisurana, Director at ABC Consultants told Economic Times the company conducted more than 100 senior-level searches for e-Commerce companies in the past six months. 
 
The executive search division of CareerNet, Longhouse Consulting, is looking at a dozen plus mandates a month. 
 
"We have 70-80% of our business coming from e-Commerce and expect to handle 180-200 mandates this year, up from 75-85 last year," Anshuman Das, managing partner, Longhouse Consulting, told ET. 
 
"We are filling in at least one position a day at the leadership level," GC Jayaprakash, executive director at RGF Executive Search, told the financial daily. 
He added that the companies were willing to pay a premium to attract top talent that would lead to wealth creation and high valuation if they go ahead with an IPO. 
 
Meanwhile, human resource heads of e-Commerce companies also agreed on the estimates. 
 "Investors are bringing hundreds of millions of dollars. We can spend it either on infrastructure or people. And that's what they are doing - investing in people," the <keyword id="231518" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Human-Resource-Head">human resource head</keyword> of one of the leading online retailers, on conditions of anonymity, told ET. 
 
The financial daily also reported that the HR head of another online retailer was currently scouting for such senior level talent for several of its revenue generating core functions. 
 "This year also we are looking at 30-40% increase in hiring across the board and a corresponding increase in leadership levels," said Raj Raghavan, head-HR, <keyword id="6354743" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Amazon-India">Amazon India</keyword>. He declined to comment on salaries. 
 
Even Snapdeal is looking to beef up leadership hiring.

Soon after Snapdeal acquiring mobile recharge platform Freecharge, rival <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> has announced the acquisition of <keyword id="2829367" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="appiterate">Appiterate</keyword>, a mobile engagement and marketing automation company based out of Delhi. 
 
Strategically operating Appiterate targets consumers and increases sales of eCommerce by using push notifications and inapp messages. 
Nishant Verman, Senior Director, Corporate Development-Flipkart told The Economic Times, "Their innovative platform and tech team will bring deep mobile capabilities to the table which is a key focus area for Flipkart." 
 As per a news report by the ET, Appiterate, which started out as a testing platform for mobile apps had raised more than $500,000 from SAIF Partners &amp; angel investors, including former <keyword id="6354576" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Facebook">Facebook</keyword> VP of Engineering &amp; Products, Greg Badros and LimeRoad CTO <keyword id="289857" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prashant-Malik">Prashant Malik</keyword> in 2014. 
 
The Appiterate team will join Flipkart, Tanuj Mendiratta, co-founder and CEO, Appiterate has confirmed. Appiterate's mobile marketing automation platform will be integrated into Flipkart's mobile app for better targeting. 
 Flipkart has also said in the near future, it will become a mobile only company. eCommerce firms in India have been increasingly focussing on pushing their mobile app. Online travel company Cleartrip, for instance, said on Wednesday that over 53% of its traffic now comes from the mobile. A majority of customers for <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword>, Snapdeal and Paytm are also mobile.

Flipkart acquires Appiterate. Is it readying for ‘mobile only’ operation?

Hindustan Unilever’s (HUL) senior employees are one of the best paid in the industry. HUL has 169 executives who drew eight-digit salaries last year, six times more than its closest rival ITC's 23 crorepati employees, and half of them are less than 40 years of age, according to the Economic Times. The HUL number is also 50% higher than IT major Infosys' 123 eight-digit salary earners and more than double of Wipro's 70. 
 
The firm’s annual report states, 169 managers, representing just 1% of HUL's total workforce, drew home a combined salary of Rs 310 crore. 
This is more than the total employee spends of mid-sized rivals such as Marico, Godrej Consumer and Procter &amp; Gamble Health and Hygiene. "For the kind of talent HUL looks for, the company has to pay top dollars as supply is limited and they have to retain them," Aditya Narayan Mishra, chief executive at CEIL HR Services told the ET adding that HUL has the highest number of crorepati employees in India. 
 
"Since they also create strong leadership within their organisation, retaining them becomes crucial," he said. HUL is often referred to as a 'CEO Factory', having contributed over 400 CEOs within the corporate world. 
 
Despite ecommerce edging out FMCG as the hottest career destination for B-school students, HUL still remains the most preferred company overall in the list for the graduating batch of 2015, fourth year in a row and as a dream company across sectors for the sixth year running, as per Nielsen Campus Track Business School 2015 survey. 
 
"At HUL, the ability to identify, hire, groom and retain the best talent has been honed and developed over several decades and remains one of the most important agenda of my leadership team," Sanjiv Mehta, CEO and MD at Hindustan Unilever, had told the financial daily in March this year. Salaries at HUL are partly linked to the company's performance in sales and profitability, say analysts. 
 
During 2014-15, HUL posted 9% sales growth compared to 7% in the overall FMCG growth with 90% of its portfolio gaining market share. Nitin Mathur, consumer goods analyst at Societe Generale, said: "HUL is unarguably the leader when it comes to understanding the Indian consumption patterns, across economic strata. 
 
Any competitor, either incumbents or startups, would like to leverage on this experience by hiring their executives." 
 
ET in May had reported that ecommerce companies could roll out 500 jobs with salaries of more than Rs 1 crore each this year, according to estimates by five search firms, including RGF Executive Search and Longhouse Consulting. 
 
Also offering jobs with one-crore-plus salaries are Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, Ola, Uber, Quikr, CommonFloor, Yepme, OLX, Junglee, FashionAndYou, Hungama, BookMyShow, Jabong, Cleartrip and Lenskart.

What if someone said you could collect the long forgotten Bank Royalty points, Corporate Reward points and e-Wallet cash, and splurge it on shopping, dining or that vacation you were planning? 
 
Woohoo lets you do just that. It’s an app that aggregates multiple payment options in a single platform for consumers to transact at various online and offline retail outlets. 
 
The company has currently partnered with 50+ brands. This lets a Woohoo user access 3000+ stores and portals. The list includes apparel and accessories stores like Allen Solly, Westside, Fastrack, Hidesign, Restaurant chains like Noodle Bar, Mani's Dum Biryani, or Entertainment and leisure outlets like PVR, Cleartrip and others. The brand has no mobile recharge partners as yet. 
 
You could choose to pay using mobile wallets like MobiKwik and Oxigen, Payback Loyalty points, Hifives reward points and many other available options. 
 
So what is the potential market for a product like Woohoo in a country not savvy enough to use wallet services extensively? 
 
“There is a lot of ongoing category creation. India has been leapfrogging the Western world in terms of consumers using their mobile phones for diverse purposes. Anybody who wants to shop or gift online or offline is a potential Woohoo user”, T P Pratap, Co-founder and CMO, of parent company Qwikcilver says. 
 
Can users combine two wallet accounts to pay for a single service, say a movie ticket? 
 
“You have an option to do that. A unique Woohoo code will be generated for each of the wallet accounts. The two can then be used at the movie theater for booking the ticket”, Pratap clarifies. 
 
Make no mistake; Woohoo is not where you book that movie seat or restaurant table or the nice stilettos you saw online. The app only generates a code that can be used as an alternative mode of payment in place of your credit/debit card. 
 
Does it bring more peace of mind to people fumbling to jump onto the Indian e-commerce wagon in fear of divulging sensitive credit/debit card information? 
 
“Consumers are already freer than a few years ago. This method of payment gives them the first step to get over their anxieties of electronic payments”, Pratap observes. 
 
So what’s the way forward for Woohoo? 
 
“There are more currencies coming up, and the option of using credit/debit card for gifting. We’re looking to have 15,000-20,000 brands including Amazon, Snapdeal and Café Coffee Day onboard over the next six months”, Pratap says. 
 
In a country that salivates for discounts and prides itself in striking a bargain, if you don’t mind your money being tied up in an online wallet, you can now spoil yourself with indulgences minus the guilt of blowing more cash.
