<ul><li>The Indian wearable market has declined for the second consecutive quarter.</li><li>The smartwatch segment has recorded a huge decline in shipments in Q3 2024.</li><li>The earwear segment has also declined, while the smart ring segment remains strong.</li></ul>The <keyword id="22725790" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-wearables-market" source="keywords">Indian wearables market</keyword> has declined for the second consecutive quarter, recording a 20.7% year-on-year decline in shipments in Q3 2024. There was a 10% decline in shipments in Q2 2024. According to a report by the International Data Corporation, 38 million devices were shipped in the country’s wearables market in Q3 2024. The decline is being attributed to a reduction in new product launches and a cautious inventory strategy. <h2>Smartwatch shipments decline</h2>The smartwatch category recorded a decline of 44.8% as shipments declined from 16.92 million devices in Q3 2023 to 9.34 million in Q3 2024. Not just the basic smartwatches, the shipments of premium smartwatches also declined by 39.9% year-on-year. The Smartwatch average selling price (ASP) however increased by 1.4% from $25.8 to $26.2. The wristband category, which remained strong in Q2 has also declined in Q3, recording a 48.4% year-on-year decline in shipments. The earwear category also struggled, with a 7.5% decline in shipments from 30.29 million in Q3 2023 to 28.52 in Q3 2024. <h2>The smart ring category continues to shine</h2>The smart ring market has remained strong, with 92 thousand smart rings shipped in Q3 2024. The quarter also recorded a decline in the average selling price of 16.2% to $162.1. Ultrahuman continues to lead the smart ring category in India with a 36.8% market share, boAt comes in second with a 20.5% share and Pi Ring is third with a 16.3% market share. <h2>Smartwatch market dominate the Indian smartwatch market with a 27.4% market share in Q3 2024, up from a 20.7% market share in Q3 2023. boAt comes in second with a 16.7% market share, up from a 14.2% market share in Q3 2023. “Amid market trends like consolidation, premiumization, and evolving consumer expectations, we have not only weathered these changes but thrived, with a 10-15% year-on-year increase in average selling prices across marketplaces,” said Amit Khatri, Co-Founder, Noise in a statement to Business Insider India. “The smartwatch category remains stressed as we head into 2025 due to undifferentiated products and a limited number of brands in play. Indian wearables market declines 20.7% in Q3 2024, smartwatch and earwear categories struggle

New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): The average selling price (ASP) for overall <keyword id="1531471" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="wearable-devices" source="Orion">wearable devices</keyword> has declined by more than 17 per cent in the first quarter of 2024—from USD 22.62 to USD 18.59—hitting a record low, the <keyword id="668267" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="International-Data-Corporation" source="Orion">International Data Corporation</keyword> (<keyword id="6377157" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IDC" source="Orion">IDC</keyword>) observed in its latest report. Excess inventory in the online channel and fewer new launches were some of the primary reasons behind the decline in prices, the report noted. Citing a similar situation a year ago, it added, that the <keyword id="21764166" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="smartwatch-ASPs" source="keywords">Smartwatch ASPs</keyword> dropped to USD20.65 from USD29.24 a year ago on the back of e-tailer sales events and discounts. Although, the share of advanced smartwatches increased from 2.0 per cent to 3.2 per cent in the 1Q24. The <keyword id="21764167" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-wearable-device-market" source="keywords">Indian wearable device market</keyword> grew by 2.1 per cent year-over-year (YoY) to 25.6 million units after growing by at least double digits consecutively since the fourth quarter of 2017. According to the IDC data, the top five vendors namely BoAt, Noise, Fire-Bolt, Boult, and Oppo, remain unchanged from a year ago. Although their collective share declined from 63.9 per cent to 59.9 per cent, the long tail of smaller vendors gained a share. Within the smartwatch category, shipments of the top three vendors declined due to high channel inventory. However, Titan and BeatXP grew by 2X and 3X, respectively. In the earwear category, all vendors from the top five grew their shipments, except Boult, the report observed. "Vendors have started focusing on retail expansion via partnerships with large format national and/or regional retail chains and bundling wearables with other product categories like smartphones, laptops, etc. It will be interesting to see if these initiatives help bring back the growth momentum, especially in the festive sales period in the second half of the year," said Anand Priya Singh, Market Analyst, Smart Wearable Devices, IDC India. Noting the increasing share of offline channels, the report adds that there was an increase of 11.8 per cent in the first quarter of 2023, while online channel shipments declined by 14.1 per cent YoY in 1Q24, its second consecutive quarter of decline.

The wristband category however continued to grow, recording a 23.4% growth in shipments. India’s wearables market decline for the first time as smartwatch shipments fall

While a small growth has been recorded in the first quarter, the growth was hindered by high inventory carried over from the festive season in 2023. The share of offline channels in shipments increased to 37.9% in Q1 2024 from 26.1% in Q1 2023. India’s wearable shipments rise by 2.1% in Q1 2024, average price declines

The last quarter of the year however reported a 12.7% year-on-year growth with 28.4 million devices shipped in the last quarter of the year. According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), 134.2 million wearables were shipped in India in 2023. This includes smartwatches and earwear such as truly wireless earbuds (<keyword id="19964109" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tws" source="keywords">TWS</keyword>) and neckbands. These two Indian brands have together sold more smartwatches than Samsung in 2022

According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), consumer demand remained stressed in 2023, leading to excess inventory levels. The year-end showed signs of recovery as Q4 2023 reported a growth of 26% year-on-year with 37 million smartphones shipped in the last quarter. This was partly fuelled by the introduction of new smartphones. “Most brands chose to reduce prices and offer additional channel margins in the last quarter to manage the inventory levels from post festive cyclic dip. The brand continues to lead the entry level segment that includes devices priced under $100. Poco reported the highest year-on-year change at 54.2% as its market share increased from 3.2% in 2022 to 4.9% in 2023. Apple reported a 38.6% change as its market share increased from 4.6% in 2022 to 6.4% in 2023. The company dominated the super-premium segment which includes smartphones priced above $800 with a market share of 68%. Samsung is second in this segment with a market share of 30%, meaning the two companies account for over 98% of the segment. “The road to recovery for smartphones in 2024 looks strained and elongated, as worries around income, inflationary stress, price increases, and inventories remain. 2023 was all about affordable 5G devices, timely price corrections, and offline channel expansion by brands, whereas 2024 and beyond requires greater efforts, especially at entry-level price points, to fuel organic growth," said Navkendar Singh, AVP, client devices research, IDC India. Poco, OnePlus top Indian smartphone shipment growth but overall reading flat

<keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s wearable market shipped a record 48.1 million units in the third quarter this year, a 29.2 per cent year-over-year (YoY) growth, a new report showed on Wednesday. Apart from the new smartwatch and earwear models, smart rings became prominent in the third quarter, according to the data from International Data Corporation (IDC). The smart ring category is generating a lot of interest from consumers, particularly due to the interesting form factor and several launches in the past few months. "Smart rings add novelty to the wearable device space, with brands trying to position it as a fashion accessory and a non-intrusive health device. While currently there are very few models, we can expect more mainstream brands launching more affordable options next year," said <keyword id="3886166" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="upasana-joshi" source="Orion">Upasana Joshi</keyword>, Research Manager, Client Devices, IDC India. Ultrahuman led the smart ring category with an impressive 75.5 per cent market share, followed by <keyword id="19504357" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pi-ring" source="Orion">Pi Ring</keyword> at 10.9 per cent, and boAt (<keyword id="6494266" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="imagine-marketing" source="Orion">Imagine Marketing</keyword>) with an 8.2 per cent market share in the third quarter. Overall, the domestic wearable market shipped 105.9 million units in the first three quarters of 2023, which is more than 100.1 million units shipped in 2022. The overall average selling price (ASPs) declined by 20.4 per cent from $27.2 to $21.7. "Brands have upped the game with high-end specifications at entry-level pricing. This combined with high-decibel marketing campaigns and promotions will drive Q4 shipments, resulting in strong double digit annual growth in 2023," said <keyword id="218502" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vikas-sharma" source="Orion">Vikas Sharma</keyword>, senior market analyst, <keyword id="1531471" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="wearable-devices" source="Orion">Wearable Devices</keyword>, IDC India. boAt (Imagine Marketing) continued to dominate the overall wearable market with 29.7 per cent share, growing by 19.4 per cent. In <keyword id="5617680" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tws" source="Orion">TWS</keyword> too, it maintained leadership with 37.9 per cent share, 33.3 per cent growth YoY. It stood third in the smartwatch category with 14.2 per cent market share. Noise (Nexxbase) stood second in overall wearables with 10.8 per cent share and flat 0.6 per cent YoY shipment growth. It dropped to second in the smartwatch category with 20.7 per cent market share and maintained its fourth position in the TWS segment at 7.7 per cent share, growing by 20.4 per cent YoY, the report mentioned. Smartwatches remained the fastest growing category with 16.9 million units, growing by 41 per cent YoY as incumbent vendors shipped aggressively to stock for the upcoming festive season. Within wearables, the share of earwear dropped to 64.4 per cent from 67.3 per cent a year ago, but shipments still grew 23.6 per cent to 30.9 million units, according to the report. India's wearable market grows 29.2% in Q3, smart ring category shows promise

New Delhi, Feb 27 () The wearables market in India recorded an over 168 per cent year-over-year growth in 2019, with shipments touching 14.9 million units, IDC said on Thursday. Accounting for the largest share of shipment volumes, the earwear category grew five-fold, shipping 8.5 million units, while wrist bands and watches segments touched 5.3 million units and 0.9 million units, respectively. In the December quarter, wearables vendors shipped a total of 5.1 million units, making it the seventh consecutive quarter of double-digit growth in shipments, IDC said. It was also the biggest quarter for wrist bands with 1.5 million units shipped in a single quarter, witnessing 30.9 per cent year-on-year growth, it added. "Ear-worn devices have found huge appeal with consumers, who are spoiled for choice with a variety of models at different price points. Affordable neckbands are leading the charge of migration from wired to wireless in this category," IDC India Market Analyst Anisha Dumbre said. At the same time, truly wireless devices with improved battery life and connectivity are attracting users to spend more, Dumbre added. "As more vendors entered this segment with affordable options, the average selling price (ASP) of the category came down to USD 39 in 2019 from USD 63 a year ago, resulting in massive growth in this category," Dumbre said. IDC India's Associate Research Manager (Client Devices) Jaipal Singh said the wearables market is in a state of flux with new form factors and brands entering every few months. "India is still underpenetrated when it comes to the adoption of wearables for health. Growing concerns around lifestyle diseases, have certainly helped wearables to get initial traction for weight control and physical activity monitoring," he said. He added that the market, however, is yet to scale beyond the key cities. "Vendors will need to continue to experiment in this segment to explore scalable opportunities," he said. Xiaomi remained the dominant leader with a 48.9 per cent share in the wrist bands category, while Titan maintained its second position with 14.5 per cent share. A total of 933,000 units of watches were shipped during the year with a 77.5 per cent growth. Smartwatches continued to lead the watch category with 61.1 per cent share in 2019. In the smartwatch category, Fossil was the leading vendor with 30.3 per cent share, followed by Apple (26.6 per cent). Huami led the basic watch category. Homegrown brand BoAt Lifestyle led the earwear segment with 27.3 per cent market share. That's up 23% from the year prior.But the driver behind those strong results, the iPhone, might not be enough to keep Apple ahead of the competition in the future.Following Google's big annual event, Google I/O, the analysts at Jeffries released a report emphasizing how important cloud services are - and how Google is far ahead of Apple in this space."We continue to believe Apple needs to raise its game in Cloud Services to combat competition from Google in the long term," Jeffries wrote in its most recent note. This doesn't have much of an impact on Apple right now, but Jeffries highlights a scenario in the future in which it might. It all boils down to what the main driver behind smartphone sales is.Right now, hardware is viewed as one of the most important factors when buying a phone. That is, people look at how the phone looks and feels, the build materials, the quality of the screen, how fast it performs, and so on. This is an area where Apple excels, since it's a hardware-focused company. But Apple could be in trouble if the main driver behind device sales becomes the quality of cloud services rather than hardware.Here's what Jeffries writes in its latest report (emphasis is our own):As mobile usage models increasingly migrate to the Cloud, catalyzed by growing adoption of hardware-lite devices like Smartwatches, we expect more of the user experience to be increasingly driven by superior Cloud Services such as Google Now. This represents a longer term threat to Apple's hardware-centric business model.This echoes the same sentiment Jeffries wrote in a lengthier report from November 2014:If user perception of device value shifts from device hardware (and software) to Cloud Services, Apple's iOS hardware ASP premium would be at risk...A shift in user perception toward Cloud Services could further challenge Apple's product differentiation.Today, you can get most of Google's core services on the iPhone, including the new <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/google-announces-google-photos-website-and-app-2015-5">Google Photos service</a> with unlimited storage, plus Google Now, Gmail, Chrome, Google Maps, Hangouts, Google Drive, and many more. It really shows the potential benefits of Google's cloud services that you'd only be able to get on Android.
