<ul><li>A report by Routesonline, a global airlines events organise, ranked the Bengaluru <keyword id="6355752" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="airport">airport</keyword> as the second fastest growing airport in the world in terms of actual passenger growth. </li><li>In terms of percentage growth, the <keyword id="54371" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kempegowda-International-Airport">Kempegowda International Airport</keyword> was eight. </li><li>Half of the airports in the top 20 are distributed between China and India. </li></ul> India has made no secret about the fact that it wants to become the third largest <keyword id="31907" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aviation">aviation</keyword> market in the world by 2026. Rising incomes coupled with UDAN, or the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) implemented by the government of India to promote air travel in the country, seems to be paying off with two of the top 10 fastest growing airports in the world are in the country. <div type="image" title="Educate Kids Charity Infographic" msid="65518601" hostid="261"></div>

 The analysis <a href="https://www.routesonline.com/news/29/breaking-news/280069/the-fastest-growing-major-airports-in-the-world-so-far-this-year/">conducted</a> by Routesonline put the Bengaluru’s airport in second place when it comes to actual passenger growth with 16 million passengers during H1 2018 following Tokyo’s Haneda Airport that dominated the top spot with 43 million passengers. Though the difference is substantial, the passenger traffic at Kempegowda International Airport is up by 4 million in comparison to H1 2017. Experts <a href="https://bangaloremirror.indiatimes.com/bangalore/others/kempegowda-international-airport-among-fastest-growing-airports-in-world/articleshow/65493960.cms">attribute</a> one of the reasons to be that fact that, historically, Bengaluru hasn’t been well connected via alternative methods of transportation. That being said, in terms of percentage growth the airport came in eighth globally. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport came in sixth with actual passenger growth of 3 million. Growth is always considered to be positive, but Delhi airport’s increasing traffic has also led an increasing security bill that the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has not been able to <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/delhi-news/govt-threatens-to-withdraw-delhi-airport-security-over-payment-dispute/story-lnEGoZHRs8ZwbouZsYNOTK.html">pay-off</a> yet. The civil aviation industry in India is already the third largest in domestic travel. According to the <a href="https://www.ibef.org/industry/indian-aviation.aspx">India Brand Equity Foundation</a>, by 2036 India will have around 480 million passengers, which will be greater than Japan and Germany combined. Year on year the passenger traffic has grown at a rate of 16.52% with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.72% between 2006 and 2018. Routesonline, a company that specialises in the quality and standards of aviation, only considered airports that crossed the 2.5 million mark in the first six months of the year. That being said, India’s aviation sector is set to grow even further if the UDAN international draft scheme is implemented to promote international air travel from smaller cities.

At least 16 people have died, including both pilots. and 123 are injured. The plane, a Boeing 737-800, continued off the end of the runway and fell down 30 feet into a valley, breaking into two pieces. The flight, operating as <keyword id="9719305" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="air-india-express-flight-1344">Air India Express Flight 1344</keyword>, was coming from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The flight was part of the Vande Bharat mission to repatriate Indian residents stranded abroad by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 190 people aboard included 174 passengers — 10 of them infants — and six crew members.<keyword id="6367036" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="calicut">Calicut</keyword> International Airport, located in Kerala, <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>, is a famously tricky airport for pilots. The airport's single runway is what's known as a "tabletop runway," the sort built atop a hill, plateau, or mountain, with steep drop-offs past both ends. These leave little margin for error and severely penalize mistakes. Moreover, they can create an optical illusion for pilots, appearing to continue on and on despite giving way to the cliff.<div type="image" title="Tabletop Runway Calicut India" height="552" width="1137" msid="77424324" hostid="261"></div>The runway at Calicut, 10/28 — like all airport runways, it is named for the compass direction it faces, and can facilitate takeoffs and landings in either direction depending on winds — is 9,300 feet long, with fall-offs at both ends.While that is typically long enough to manage larger aircraft including wide-body Boeing 747 and 777 jets, the reduced margin for error, combined with poor visibility conditions, can be hazardous even for smaller planes like the 737.Friday's crash occurred at about 7:45 p.m. local time, in dark conditions during heavy rain, according to Cirium, a civil aviation database. <a href="https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/vt-axh#2525ad3d">Tracking data indicated</a> that Friday's flight attempted to land once but aborted the approach at the last minute, went around for a second attempt, then crashed.A similar crash occurred at Mangalore International Airport in India — another tabletop runway — in May 2010. That case involved a Boeing 737-800 operated from Dubai by <keyword id="6378232" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="air-india-express">Air India Express</keyword>, which overshot the runway while landing and fell down a hill, bursting into flames. <ul><li>Business Insider India’s mystery shopper visited Mumbai’s Apple store on the very first day and compared it to the stores she visited in the US. </li><li>Most visitors came in groups, and a few even visited during office breaks. </li><li>Even with a large number of visitors, Apple Geniuses of all nationalities were welcoming visitors and giving demos. </li></ul>I am writing this article on a MacBook Pro — a product that was launched the year I was born, 2006. Since then, all Apple products be it iPods, iPads, iPhones or Apple TV have been a part of my life. I have been to an Apple store before too at New Haven in Connecticut, but my most memorable Apple store visit is the freshly launched one at Jio World Drive in BKC. Though I was a tad late to be welcomed by Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, the feeling of euphoria was still there. There was music playing, people were just as excited even at 12 noon — even in the heat while waiting in a queue. There were two singers belting out songs, performers dressed in colorful costumes dancing in front of a rapturous audience. I stood in the long line for half an hour to enter the store, the queue seemed to wind indefinitely reminding me of an airport security line. The Apple team was sending people inside in batches and as expected, people were lingering around soaking in the sights. However, the smiles on the faces of the people exiting the store with tote bags that had a customized Apple logo on them — made me feel that the wait was worth it. Mid-day summer’s heat Needless to say, the heat outside was palpable – over 36 degrees Celsius. But there was another kind of warmth around too. The Apple team was giving out water bottles to those battling the Mumbai sun. Around me were people of all ages, most of whom had come in groups, and there were some in office attire too. Ahead of me was a Punjabi-Canadian couple who were in Mumbai for a holiday. The die-hard Apple fans had penciled a Mumbai store visit into their itinerary, and were keen to buy products too but were worried that the prices here would be much higher than they would in Canada. Behind me was a father- son duo from Mumbai who shared that they had mainly just come for the experience, but would consider buying a pair of Air pods. I was extremely interested to learn that this BKC store is one of Apple’s most sustainable outlets so far. It runs completely on renewable energy and is operationally carbon neutral. It seems to be a part of Apple’s journey towards carbon neutrality. The company has committed to use only recycled earth elements in its magnets, and increase the use of less carbon-intensive transport. <div type="image" title="apple2" msid="99682864" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Source: IANS&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> What’s in the store? As I stepped inside, Apple staff of different nationalities were standing at the door, welcoming us customers effusively. Although the store was teeming with customers, there were enough Apple Geniuses to guide and interact with each individual. One of the Geniuses told me that they were pleasantly surprised by the magnitude of the crowd. Another Genius who had been working with Apple for two years, said that she had anticipated it. The store was choc-a-bloc but there were many Geniuses all ready to answer questions and help make a purchase. Most visitors were exploring the different features of iphones, Macbooks and ipads. I, personally, was in awe of the variety of accessories on display, especially Apple Watch Straps. I enjoyed watching the interactive session being conducted by a genius and also trying out the noise canceling headphones at the Apple Arcade session. Most first-day visitors were lining up to buy accessories, but the store staff said that many laptops and phones flew off the shelves as well. This store seemed exceptional not just because it is the first in India but even in comparison to others the Mumbai store stands out. The store in New Haven, Connecticut, a much smaller structure, was a far less memorable visit. The staff here was much friendlier and more affable. The impressiveness of Apple BKC is far more akin to that of the Marina Bay Sands Apple Store, a spherical structure sitting on the water. Some other stores which I haven’t visited but seem mind-blowing are the Apple Tower Theatre in Los Angeles, USA and the Apple Piazza Liberty store in Milan, Italy. The Apple store in Dubai Mall has a falcon -themed design, with solar wings resembling the movement of the bird opening. The store in Fifth Avenue in New York, an all-night retail store also known as the ‘Cube’ which has a spiral staircase leading to a grand hall below the plaza where it is located. The multilevel Regent Street Store in London, England not only has the longest custom made luminous ceilings panels in the world but is also listed as a historical façade. Overall, I felt the Mumbai store lived up to the hype and I hope to visit the store opened in Delhi as well. (The writer, Ananya Tawakley is an intern with Business Insider India. First day, first show: Business Insider sent its mystery shopper to Apple’s flagship store in Mumbai and was surprised

<ul><li>There are approximately 470 aeroplanes in the country as of 2017. </li><li>This number is projected to triple by the next decade. </li><li>The country is lagging behind on infrastructural growth that can accommodate new flights and aircrafts. </li></ul>The Indian aviation industry has <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/airlines-/-aviation/indian-carriers-are-all-fuelled-up-but-have-nowhere-to-land/articleshow/64641622.cms">hit a snag</a>, the airports are running out of preferred slots and parking space. The lack of flying slots and spaces to park aircrafts is due to the the fact that the airports are super busy and working overtime. What this has lead to, besides flight operators having to fight out for slots and space, is a bottleneck for the country’s growth in aviation. And this issue is mostly affecting newer airline carriers like Vistara and AirAsia which are rapidly expanding its business but have to deal with ‘undesirable’ slots for their operations. Since its inception Indian aviation industry has grown significantly. From 381 airplanes in 2008 to approximately 480 in 2017 along with <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/india-set-to-become-third-largest-buyer-of-passenger-planes/articleshow/58937405.cms">plans</a> to buy more aircrafts to deal with increasing flight demands, the industry’s growth in on an upward curve. The country is looking at nearly 1080 aeroplanes, out of which, more than 700 are scheduled for delivery within the next decade, and 400 within the next five years. As of June last year, a total of 880 aircrafts were on order, with most of them being placed by low-cost carriers such as IndiGo and SpiceJet. And this bulk demand as left <keyword id="6355752" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="airport">airport</keyword> authorities concerned.

 While more aircrafts mean more flights and therefore more money coming in for these airline operators, the airports are not adequately equipped to accommodate all the airplanes at the same time. And this leads to the airports only being able to offer slots at ‘undesirable’ hours, time slots that are not very popular with travellers, for newer flights. The Mumbai and Delhi airports, which are among the busiest in the world, are so packed with flights that they are only offering new slots between 11PM and 5AM. Airports in Goa and Pune are also offering only night slots. Airports in Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata also don't have any slots open during peak timings. What is making matters worse for domestic carriers is that even smaller airports like Jaipur, Jammu, Srinagar and Patna and many more are facing similar issues and can offer time slots that aren’t popular. Currently, 97% of the slots on the Mumbai airport are with the older airline carriers. In Delhi and Bengaluru, 89% and 86% are with older airlines respectively. At Chennai and Pune, the share is about 93% and 91% respectively.

 Airport congestion is a world-wide phenomenon. But the situation is worse in <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>. The government has big plans of linking smaller, less-served areas to bigger airports under its regional connectivity programme - and this would just mean more congestion. Parking space in airports is also a major concern, but the country has already started to address this problem. All airports, excluding Mumbai, have started building parking bays. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been set in action and plans to add 273 parking bays at 24 airports to help resolve parking issues. AAI is also trying to increase airside capacity by increasing work efficiency to address this congestion problem.

Indian aviation hits a snag: Parking space, flight slots are scarce across airports

I know it can be tough to navigate. </li><li>Here's my list of the best transportation options for getting to and around the city. </li></ul>I've been hopping around Bangkok since 2010 and can attest that it's not the most straightforward metropolis to get around. Bangkok's transport infrastructure is extensive, and the traffic is notoriously bad, so having a good understanding of the different options and how they work is key to making the most of your time so you don't spend most of it stuck in congestion.Here is everything you need to know about navigating Bangkok quickly and affordably.<h3>Getting to Bangkok</h3>You'll likely be flying into Thailand through Bangkok's international Suvarnabhumi Airport. It is a major transport hub for Asia, connecting to all the other Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Cambodia, which are usually serviced from here by smaller regional airlines, and across Asia with routes from India, Japan, South Korea, and China.There are currently no direct flights from North America to Bangkok (the route to Suvarnabhumi will take you through Doha or Dubai with Qatar Airways and Emirates Airlines respectively). There are some direct flights from Europe though, through cities such as London, Paris, and Frankfurt.Once you get to Suvarnabhumi, the airport has a lot to make you feel at ease like free Wi-Fi, a pretty good Thai food court, lots of international dining options, and even a massage spot.If you are just spending a few hours or a day in Bangkok, you might want to consider checking out the luggage storage stand on the basement level. You can store each bag here for 100 baht per day.To get from the airport into the city, there are a couple of options. The <a href="https://www.srtet.co.th/index.php/en" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Airport Rail Link</a> on the basement level is the only form of efficient public transport from the airport into the city. It costs 45 baht and takes about one hour to the downtown Ratchaprarop or Makkasan stations connecting to the main BTS Skytrain and MRT underground networks respectively.Otherwise, you need to take a taxi from the ground-floor taxi stand. It's essentially the only other transport option from Suvarnabhumi to greater Bangkok, since rideshares are not allowed to do airport pickups.Staff at the taxi stand speak English and print a slip with your desired destination address on it for the driver. The price runs on a meter costing around 350 baht ($10) to the city center, plus about 150 baht ($4) in surcharges for the taxi stand and expressways. This can take up to an hour into the city, depending on traffic.<h3>Getting around Bangkok</h3>Bangkok experiences intense gridlock, and public transport can be helpful in this regard. It connects to all other transport systems (<a href="https://metro.bemplc.co.th/MRT-System-Map?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">MRT underground</a>, <a href="https://www.chaophrayaexpressboat.com/home?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Chao Phraya Express Boat</a>, and <a href="https://www.srtet.co.th/index.php/en" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Airport Rail Link</a>) and is essential for exploring busy downtown areas with its Sukhumvit and Silom lines.Ticket costs range from 16 up to 59 baht ($0.50 to $1.75) depending on how many stations you are traveling to. It's always best to check on Google Maps whether the BTS or MRT will be the closest walking distance from where you want to go.The airport link connects to the MRT at the Makkasan/Sukhumvit station and connects to the BTS Skytrain at the Sala Daeng/Silom, Sukhumvit/Asoke stations, and Mo Chit/Chatuchak stations. It also services Bangkok's railway station, Hua Lamphong, where you may depart or arrive to and from other parts of Thailand. For travelers, it also offers sightseeing, too.Fares, which range from 15 to 32 baht ($0.45 to $1), can be paid at the pier kiosks or on the boat. Used by local commuters to connect from residential areas to the inner city, it makes similar stops as the Skytrain does downtown (for example, to the CentralWorld and MBK malls), it's a transport option you won't take for convenience but for an adventure, since it's totally unique to Bangkok.These boats arrive at stations every few minutes and only stop if you wave them over. At lightning speed, the boat workers jump out and tie the boat to the pier, and you jump right in. A boat worker daringly walks along the edges ticketing passengers (8 to 20 baht depending upon distance).When buying your ticket, say which stop you want to get off at. It'll be your job to watch the names on the piers as they pass by, stand up to signal you'll be getting off, and jump right back out again.Grab rideshare app In recent years, the ride-hailing app <a href="https://www.grab.com/th/en/transport/taxi/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Grab</a> has become a convenient way to book taxi and motorbike rides. These days, it tends to even be more affordable and transparently priced than hailing taxis and motorbikes from off the street. The project aims to aid communication between pilots and air traffic controllers by making it easier to understand pilots who speak English but have heavy overlaying accents. Accents are extremely diverse, especially in a country like India, which has 22 official languages and 780 languages overall. At the request of the Government of India, the program is going to analyse accents and <keyword id="1696544" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Transcribe">transcribe</keyword> them for the controllers on the ground. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been pushing for more smaller <keyword id="43661" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="airports">airports</keyword> in the country to increase connectivity. That, in turn, requires more manpower, specifically more pilots. Neelu Khatri, the president of Honeywell’s aerospace business for India, says that the move will result in more regional pilots since it’s a regional connectivity scheme. And, therein lies the problem of accents. In an interview with Bloomberg, Khatri <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-05/honeywell-to-make-flying-safer-by-decoding-100-accents-in-india">claims</a>, “One of the biggest problems in India has been that we Indians don’t understand each other’s English because of the dialects.” And that’s not too-far off the mark since past <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/the-indian-air-crash-tapes-point-blame-at-kazakh-pilot-1352266.html">incidences</a> have already proven that miscommunication is a global safety threat. If the software is successfully implemented in India, it may be applied worldwide to help airports in other nations.
