"We also believe this trend is benefiting from nostalgia (much like adidas Originals) as teens now wearing CROX grew up with the brand as children."&#xa0;</p><p>Susquehanna's Poser agreed that nostalgia may also be at play.</p><p>"If you think about it, there's something that you like today that brings back memories of something when you were a kid," he said in a phone interview. In early December, Crocs' stock surged when the company <a href="https://investors.crocs.com/press-releases/press-release-details/2018/Crocs-Inc-Announces-Repurchase-and-Conversion-of-Convertible-Preferred-Stock-Owned-by-Blackstone-Transaction-Increases-Pro-Forma-YTD-2018-EPS-Approximately-018-or-30/default.aspx">said</a> it planned to buy back half of the preferred convertible shares the private-equity firm Blackstone acquired in a $200 million investment in 2014.</p><p>To be sure, the company has appeared to be in "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-crocs-brand-is-collapsing-2014-7">comeback</a>" mode for years. In mid-2014, Crocs said it planned to shutter stores and lay off employees amid waning clog demand, Business Insider reported at the time. The company has also shuttered stores over the years, shrinking from 585 stores in 2014 to 382 in 2018.</p><p>Some experts following the stock are wary the company's turnaround will truly take hold. Post Malone, Balenciaga, and teens: Here's what's behind Crocs' huge run over the past year

<ul><li><strong>The rise of GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro is going to have a big impact on consumer spending habits.</strong></li><li><strong>Stifel conducted a survey of consumers and highlighted the potential winners as more people lose weight from the drugs.</strong></li><li><strong>Athleisure brands like Lululemon could see a jump in demand, as could energy drink makers.</strong></li></ul><p>The <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-outlook-ozempic-wegovy-glp1-weight-loss-drugs-investing-2023-10#:~:text=In%20other%20words%2C%20the%20stock,help%20people%20with%20kidney%20failure.">continued rise of GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro</a> is going to have a big impact on consumer spending habits as more people lose weight, according to findings from a new survey.</p><p>That could mean <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/semaglutide-wegovy-ozempic-weight-loss-healthcare-airlines-economy-productivity-2023-11">consumers spending less money on food</a> and more money on athleisure brands to update their wardrobes. That's because GLP-1 drugs can help overweight and diabetes patients <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/zepound-eli-lilly-weight-loss-drug-cost-cheaper-than-wegovy">lose upwards of 20% of their body weight</a> over the course of a year as appetites change.</p><p>Analysts at Stifel conducted a survey of consumers last month, and 15% of respondents said they were currently taking a GLP-1 drug. An additional 21% said they're interested in taking GLP-1 drugs.</p><p>Some of the takeaways from the survey were obvious, with Stifel estimating a 4% reduction in calories consumed by consumers, assuming 16% of the US population starts taking the drug.</p><p>But some of the survey results were less obvious, as they identified exactly where GLP-1 users might start spending their money.</p><p>"Our survey shows respondents who use a GLP-1 drug are 72% more likely to consume an energy drink at least once per month compared to the general population. We think this reflects the need for caffeine as the loss of appetite caused by the GLP-1 reduces consumption of calories that are converted to energy," Stifel said.</p><p>The firm said that 86% of respondents who are using a GLP-1 drug reported purchasing an energy drink at least once, compared to just 50% for the overall population. Stifel estimates that US energy drink consumption could increase by about 2% if more people start to take the GLP-1 drugs.</p><p>That's good news for energy drink makers like <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/mnst-stock">Monster Beverage</a> and <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/celh-stock">Celsius Holdings</a>, Stifel said.</p><p>Other stock beneficiaries of the GLP-1 drug craze are athleisure brands, as people who lose weight get more active and update their wardrobe. </p><p>"Simplistically, consumers who lose significant amounts of weight are going to want/need new clothes," Stifel said. "In the first year of weight loss, motivated by both changing sizes and increased confidence inspiring wardrobe upgrades, we believe this population could increase apparel spending by 2x or more."</p><p>The change in apparel spending habits among GLP-1 consumers should result in more spending towards athleisure brands, running shoes, and hiking boots, according to Stifel.</p><p>"Exercise reportedly enhances the efficacy of GLP-1 solutions suggesting a portion of the population invested in GLP-1 participation will likely increase activity. We believe those who have lost weight could be encouraged to dress the part of the active lifestyle consumer creating demand for active apparel and athletic footwear," Stifel said.</p><p>That should bode well for <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/lulu-stock">Lululemon</a>, <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/dks-stock">Dick's Sporting Goods</a>, <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/onon-stock">On Holding</a>, and <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/skx-stock">Skechers</a>, according to the note. </p>

Spotify announced its new global paid parental leave policy.</h3><p>Spotify is the latest company <a href="http://www.fastcompany.com/3053834/second-shift/spotify-jumps-on-the-paid-parental-leave-bandwagon-offering-up-to-six-months-of">to announce</a> a more generous parental leave policy. Others have included Netflix, Adobe, and Amazon. This is the first time a company has extended the leave through the child's third birthday and included surrogacy among those eligible for the benefit.</p><h3>9. Abercrombie &amp; Fitch is surging.</h3><p>Abercrombie &amp; Fitch shares jumped by as much as 20% in pre-market trading on Friday after the company posted third-quarter earnings results. The apparel industry is struggling</strong></h3><h3><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Mallory Schlossberg/Business Insider</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></h3><p>Nike has long been viewed as immune to the struggles of the apparel industry, but the sector s still ailing and<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/where-consumers-are-spending-money-2016-5" target="_blank"> consumers for the most part don't want to spend money on apparel</a>. </p><p><span>Stores that sell Nike merchandise have been faltering, too, such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/sports-authority-declares-bankruptcy-2016-3" target="_blank">Sports Authority</a>, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. And Macy's sells Nike, and though the Nike section remains one of </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/macys-tour-and-business-analysis-2016-5" target="_blank">Macy's Herald Square's only pristine sections</a><span>, Macy's is still struggling to drive traffic to its stores. (And The Journal points out that Nike's push for online sales has hurt smaller businesses that sell the brand.)</span></p><p><span>A recently Morgan Stanley report predicts that apparel and footwear sales will grow 1-3% over the next three months, but the report showed that year-over-year growth on a 3-month average for clothing and accessory stores were down -5%. The sporting goods, hobby, book, and music store category was up 4.9%.</span></p><h3>2. Women's athleisure is getting more crowded by the day.</h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.facebook.com/OutdoorVoices/photos_stream">Outdoor Voices Facebook</a></span></p><p class="caption">Outdoor Voices</p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p>There are the major competitors - like Lululemon and Under Armour - and then there are more niche brands, like the ultra-luxe <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/meet-sweaty-betty-londons-pricier-lululemon-2013-12" target="_blank">Sweaty Betty</a> and Bandier, and Outdoor Voices, pictured above, which prides itself on branding that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/outdoor-voices-isnt-about-competition-2016-3" target="_blank">focuses on fun, rather than being competitive and the best</a>. In other words, its the anti-Nike, and that could be appealing to girls who sought an alternative to Nike's "just do it" mentality.</p><p>Though in sheer size none of these brands - even the rapidly growing Under Amour - have nothing on Nike, The Journal points to an NPD study that says there are over 700 athleisure options for women to wear these days. Put all of these smaller brands together, and you could have an actually viable threat to Nike's market share.</p><h3><strong>3. This is especially a concern since basketball apparel accounts for 12-14% of Nike's business.
