<ul><li>The death toll from dog attacks in <keyword id="6357713" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> has risen to seven in the past month and 13 since November 2017.</li><li> A team from <keyword id="18630" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="WWF">WWF</keyword> has confirmed that dogs were behind the attacks. </li><li>The police have deployed drones to track and trap the feral dogs.</li></ul>Early Sunday morning, a young girl named Reena was mauled to death by a pack of feral dogs in <keyword id="6526489" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="maheshpur-chilwara">Maheshpur Chilwara</keyword> village, <keyword id="6369174" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sitapur">Sitapur</keyword> district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The latest death brings the death toll from dog attacks to seven in the past month and 13 since November 2017. While there were rumours that the creatures attacking the kids may be jackals or even wolves, or perhaps even a rare breed of man-eating dogs, a team from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) have confirmed that common stray dogs were behind the attacks. 'The study of photographs of children attacked clearly showed that attacks were carried out by the dogs. Had any carnivore like wolf or hyena attacked then a larger mass from the body of the victim would have been eaten up and only bones would have been found,' WWF team members <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/lucknow/dogs-behind-sitapur-attacks-says-wwf/articleshow/64102862.cms">said</a>. However, the reason for the sudden surge in attacks has not been established. According to city magistrate Harsh Deo Pandey, who spoke to the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/up-sitapur-streets-out-of-bounds-for-kids-as-dogs-kill-10-year-old/articleshow/64152369.cms">Times of India</a> (TOI), Reena was out in a mango orchard with three other girls when a pack of dogs attacked them. While the three others managed to escape, the 10-year-old couldn’t. Right after the latest incident the administration ordered that children were not to move out of their homes without adult presence. District magistrate Sheetal Verma told TOI, "Block development officers, gram pradhans, lekhpals, doctors, teachers and kotedars (ration sellers) will set up committees to ensure no child goes out without any elder." The state’s Chief Minister, <keyword id="43254" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yogi-Adityanath">Yogi Adityanath</keyword>, <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/lucknow/yogi-visits-sitapur-kin-of-those-killed-in-dog-attack-to-get-2l/articleshow/64131473.cms">visited</a> the district a few days back and apart from offering monetary compensation to the victims and their families, he ordered the administration to find a way stop the attacks. During his visit, he said, “There are 22 villages affected by this menace. We have seen children are particularly targeted by dogs. We are increasing security and will spread awareness among villagers not to let children go out alone. Of the total, 86.05 per cent boys and 93.40 per cent girls cleared the exam. For Class 12, the number of candidates was 24,52,830 (24.52 lakh) -- 13,41,356 (13.41 lakh) boys and 11,11,474 (11.11 lakh) girls, Dev said. The pass percentage was 77.78 for boys and 88.42 for girls.

The camera has been developed by Samsung in partnership with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), Yonsei University Health System (YUHS) and Lab SD, Inc. To screen patients, Samsung has partnered with four eye hospitals Sitapur Eye Hospital in Uttar Pradesh; Aravind Eye Hospital in Pondicherry; Guruhasti Chikitsalya in Jodhpur, Rajasthan; and Dr. Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital in New Delhi. So far, Samsung has upcycled nearly 200 units of old Galaxy smartphones and distributed the cameras to partners in India. "The device comes in handy as it is very easy to use and can be operated by a semi-trained technician as well because of the on-device AI that tells them if the image is normal or abnormal. And since it is portable, it can be carried to remote locations easily where availability of ophthalmic health care is limited," said Dr Sahil Bhandari, Senior Ophthalmologist at Guruhasti Chikitsalya. An older Galaxy smartphone becomes the brain of the EYELIKE' device, capturing images of a person's retina through a lens attachment for enhanced diagnosis of eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration that could lead to blindness if not diagnosed on time. The Galaxy Upcycling' programme repurposes older Galaxy devices, transforming them into a handheld device that is being used to provide eye care in underserved communities. Engineers at Samsung R&amp;D Institute in Bangalore developed the Fundus image capture mechanism, the artificial intelligence-based processing algorithm, the user interface (UI) and server-related operations in the EYELIKE application. The EYELIKE device scans retinal images and uses an accurate AI-based algorithm on the phones to detect diseases in the retinal images and classify them as normal or abnormal.
