<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="11901412" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="moderna" source="Orion">Moderna</keyword>'s CFO Jorge Gomez will be paid $700,000, despite spending only one day in his new job. </li><li>Gomez left after his former employer notified the <keyword id="11898795" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="sec" source="Orion">SEC</keyword> that it was investigating financial reporting.</li></ul><p>A senior executive will be paid $700,000 in severance, despite only spending a day in his new job at vaccine maker Moderna, reports suggest. </p><p>On Wednesday, the pharmaceutical giant announced that its chief financial officer, Jorge Gomez, had departed the company "effective immediately," following a disclosure by his former employer that it's investigating financial misreporting.  </p><p>Gomez formally began his role on Monday, a month after leaving his role as CFO at the dentistry manufacturer, <keyword id="13911983" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dentsply-sirona" source="Orion">Dentsply Sirona</keyword>. Despite his early departure, he will still receive his annual salary of $700,000 as part of his severance package, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/reviews/out?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wsj.com%2Farticles%2Fmoderna-ousts-new-finance-chief-jorge-gomez-amid-probe-at-dentsply-11652272491%3Fmod%3Dpls_whats_news_us_business_f">the Wall Street Journal reported</a><a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/moderna-ousts-new-finance-chief-jorge-gomez-amid-probe-at-dentsply-11652272491?mod=pls_whats_news_us_business_f">,</a> quoting Moderna. He will, however, forfeit his $500,000 signing bonus, per the report. </p><p>It's extremely rare for an executive to leave a firm within such a short period. Listed firms go to great lengths to properly vet candidates, as part of their due diligence. The process can take many months and usually involves background checks. The nature of Gomez's departure poses questions over how rigorously this process was performed. </p><p>Moderna told the FT that it was made aware of the internal investigation, following Dentsply's disclosure, made in a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday. </p><p>In March 2022, Dentsply's board of directors began an investigation into allegations surrounding the financial reporting of the use of incentives to sell its products, as well as the disclosure of the impact on sales, according to the <a href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/818479/000081847922000046/a1q2022form12b-25.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">filing</a>.</p><p>The audit committee is also investigating "former and current members of senior management" over allegations that they used these incentives to affect executive compensation.</p><p>The investigation does not name Gomez specifically. In <a href="https://news.dentsplysirona.com/en/corporate-news/2022/dentsply-sirona-provides-corporate-update--john-groetelaars-name.html">April,</a> Dentsply terminated its former CEO Donald Casey and removed him from the board, but did not disclose why. </p><p>Gomez's predecessor, David Meline, will resume his position while the firm searches for a replacement, <a href="https://investors.modernatx.com/news/news-details/2022/Departure-of-Jorge-Gomez-and-Continuation-of-David-Meline-as-Chief-Financial-Officer/default.aspx">Moderna said in a statement</a>. </p><p>Gomez was expected to play a key role in the drug maker's ESG and sustainability efforts as it enters a new phase of growth following the commercial success of its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moderna-asks-emergency-authorization-coronavirus-vaccine-under-6-2022-4">mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.</a></p><p>Moderna, Dentsply, and Gomez are yet to respond to Insider's request for comment, which was made outside of US <keyword id="6355515" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="business" source="Orion">business</keyword> hours. </p>

Companies now allow ‘period days’ where women can take the day off if they suffer from pain while menstruating. <br /><br />The otherwise stereotypical movie business which stays away from relevant topics, welcomed movies on menstruation like Padman. The movie ‘Period. End of Sentence’, won an Oscar for the best documentary short film. The movie shows Indian women who come together to build accessible menstrual hygiene products.<br /><br />The Indian startup industry is not too far either with apps that help track periods to building products for women’s hygiene. On <keyword id="4584427" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="world-menstrual-hygiene-day">World Menstrual Hygiene Day</keyword>, here’s a look at Indian startups that are working on this topic. <br /><br /><strong><keyword id="4606906" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="nyra">Nyra</keyword> App</strong><br /><br />Vivant is a B2B data driven healthcare startup based out of Singapore. On World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the startup launched Nyra an app that can be used by women to track their period, fertility, ovulation, mood, lifestyle and physical activity. <br /><br />“In India it is estimated that around 23 million girls have dropped out of school due to menstruation and lack of awareness of women’s health issues. Nyra aims to help address this by giving women everywhere access to feminine health information and advice, and control over their feminine health journey. We have initially launched the app to include Hindi, but are actively looking to make the app available in other vernacular languages,” said Adrit Raha, CEO, Vivant.<br /><br /><strong><keyword id="7326219" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sirona">Sirona</keyword></strong><br /><br />Gurugram-based PeeBuddy which has been working on women’s hygiene with its disposable, portable urination device for women has also launched Sirona, a range of products for menstrual hygiene. The products introduced by Sirona include herbal feminine pain relief patches, oxo-degradable disposal bags, tampons, reusable menstrual cups, panty liners etc.<br /><br />Sirona is already present in 150 outlets across Delhi-NCR through retailers. It plans to amplify its presence to 5 cities by FY21.<br /><br /><strong>FLOH</strong><br /><br />FLOH is a feminine health and hygiene brand by Visionaari, a Delhi-based personal care startup. It has its own line of tampons, and recently also launched Crampfree – herbal period pain relief patches. <br /><br />“Since its inception, making sure women forget that they are on their period has been the core of FLOH’s ideology. As menstrual cramps affect most of the women out there, it was our natural progression to address this problem. Just like FLOH tampons, Crampfree will change the way women perceive their periods, helping them have a bloody good period,” said Gauri Singhal, Founder and CEO, Visionaari. <br /><br /><strong>Azah</strong><br /><br />The organic wellness startup Azah produces and sells cotton sanitary pads. In a country where menstruation is still a taboo, Indian startups are breaking stereotypes

<ul class="summary-list"><li>"Hogwarts Legacy" appears to feature the first transgender character in the Harry Potter universe.</li><li>The character follows a history of transphobic remarks from Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling. </li></ul><p>"Hogwarts Legacy," the new open-world game set in the Harry Potter universe, has seemingly introduced its first transgender character following J.K. Rowling's history of transphobic comments. </p><p>The highly-anticipated game centers on a fifth-year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1880s. <a href="https://ew.com/gaming/hogwarts-legacy-trans-character-sirona-ryan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">According to Entertainment Weekly</a>, it introduces Sirona Ryan, the proprietor of the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade and a character who seems to refer to themselves as transgender. </p><p>Players speak with Sirona during a quest involving a goblin named Lodgok, Entertainment Weekly reported.</p><p>"I've known [Lodgok] for years. We met when I was waiting tables here as a student — well before I bought the place," Sirona tells the player, per Entertainment Weekly.</p><p>"He was cordial enough, but we weren't friends then. His mistrust of wizardkind ran deep… Hadn't seen him in years when he came in a few months ago. But, he recognized me instantly. Which is more than I can say for some of my own classmates. Took them a second to realize I was actually a witch, not a wizard."</p><p><a href="https://www.dailydot.com/unclick/hogwarts-legacy-trans-character-name-sirona-ryan/">As The Daily Dot reported,</a> there's been some backlash to the character, with people noting that her name begins with the masculine title "Sir," as well as accusations of tokenism. A representative for Avalanche Software, which developed the game, <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/avalanche-software-addresses-hogwarts-legacys-transgender-character">told IGN</a> that "the team felt that it was very important to create a game that is representative of the rich and diverse world of Harry Potter as well as the groups of people who play games, which includes the LGBTQIA+ community." </p><p>"Hogwarts Legacy," which was <a href="https://www.insider.com/hogwarts-legacy-harry-potter-new-trailer-video-open-world-game-2020-9">first announced in September 2020</a>, has been a focal point of discussions regarding Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling's transphobic remarks over the past several years. </p><p>Since 2018, the author has been criticized for sharing transphobic viewpoints on social media, which came to a head in mid-2020 after Rowling published an <a href="https://www.insider.com/jk-rowling-transgender-women-statement-response-2020-6">essay titled "J.K. Rowling Writes about Her Reasons for Speaking out on Sex and Gender Issues."</a> In the essay, she said she was "worried about the new trans activism" and made claims about detransitioning that were both harmful and unsupported by data, <a href="https://www.insider.com/jk-rowling-says-explosion-of-young-women-have-transitioned-detransitioned-2020-6">Insider previously reported</a>.</p><p>Rowling's comments have been condemned by <a href="https://www.insider.com/jk-rowling-transgender-comments-show-reality-wizarding-world-harry-potter-2020-6">transgender activists</a> and<a href="https://www.insider.com/jk-rowling-harry-potter-stars-transphobic-comments-reactions-2020-6"> Harry Potter stars alike</a>. The backlash has also spread to new projects in the Harry Potter universe, like a <a href="https://www.insider.com/harry-potter-series-hbo-max-backlash-jk-rowling-reactions-2021-1">potential HBO series</a> and "Hogwarts Legacy."</p><p>Rowling herself was not involved in the creation of "Hogwarts Legacy," but according to the game's frequently asked questions page, "her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World."</p>

On average, the presentations were between <strong>13 and 15 slides</strong> in total, with a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/see-womens-health-startup-tia-series-b-pitch-deck-2021-9?r=dispensed-deck-lp">few distinct outliers like Tia</a> that included more than 20 individual slides.</li><li>Most presentations also included<strong> industry data</strong> making the business' case to investors. For some companies like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/see-the-pitch-deck-twin-health-used-series-c-sequoia-2021-10?r=dispensed-deck-lp">Twin Health</a>, this meant including demographic data along with anecdotal data to more accurately estimate the potential market size of the company. These figures often help investors decide on a company's valuation during the deal negotiation process.</li><li>Longer presentations often included <strong>customer testimonies</strong> as well, whether via customer reviews or social media accounts of a patients' experience. </li></ul><h3><a <ul class="summary-list"><li>Sora Blu grew up dreaming of living in a tiny space.</li><li>In November 2020, she purchased a 1950s <keyword id="6354464" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="trailer">trailer</keyword> and spent $3,000 turning it into her dream <keyword id="6363870" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="home">home</keyword>.</li><li>Blu told Insider that the home has given her financial freedom. </li></ul><p>Growing up, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sora.blu/">Sora Blu</a> wanted to live in a tiny cabin in the woods or a tree house nestled in the tippy-top of a forest.</p><p>Her <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/living-tiny">tiny living</a> dreams came to fruition when she moved into her first <keyword id="1323206" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="RV">RV</keyword> in 2019.</p><p>Blu, who owns an apothecary shop, <a href="https://www.earthhabit.com/">Earth Habit</a>, fell in love with the minimal <keyword id="15482" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="lifestyle">lifestyle</keyword> - just as she expected - and a year later, she purchased her own <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-mom-made-money-flipping-rvs-with-family-2021-4">vintage trailer</a> and revamped it with mid-century- and eclectic touches. </p><p>"I wake up every day feeling like the 6-year-old girl that dreamed of living in a tree house," Blu told Insider. "The simplicity of it, the manageability of it, and the challenge of it gives me a sense of purpose in life."</p><h2>Blu turned to tiny living for a sense of freedom</h2><div type="image" title="1953 Boles Aero Park Model renovation sora blu" height="1071" width="1428" msid="82298067" hostid="261"></div><p>After being diagnosed with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-its-like-living-with-crohns-disease-2014-7">Crohn's disease</a>, an <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/ibd/index.htm">inflammatory bowel disease</a>, at age 23, Blu was faced with an onslaught of uncertainty. </p><p>She realized that holding a stable job would be challenging with a disease that is constantly relapsing. This meant rent or mortgage payments would be a burden - something she didn't want to fall onto her family.  </p><p>Blu said that after her diagnosis, she thought <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/living-tiny">tiny living</a> - and bringing her childhood dream to life - could ease some of those worries.</p><p>In 2019, Blu and her partner at the time found a 20-foot RV that they could rent and test out the minimal lifestyle. They lived on land outside of Portland, Oregon, that they leased from a friend who owned it. </p><div type="image" title="1953 Boles Aero Park Model renovation sora blu" height="900" width="1200" msid="82298068" hostid="261"></div><p>After Blu and her partner separated in June 2020, Blu decided she wanted to continue living small, so she started saving up for her own trailer.</p><p>In November 2020, she bought the RV that's now her home: a 1953 Boles Aero Park Model RV. At the time, Blu paid $15,000 for the 300-square-foot trailer.</p><h2>Blu spent $3,000 renovating the vintage trailer</h2><div type="image" title="1953 Boles Aero Park Model renovation sora blu" height="997" width="1330" msid="82298070" hostid="261"></div><p>Blu said that she wanted to buy a <a href="https://www.insider.com/woman-driving-1960s-camper-van-mid-century-tiny-home-2021-1">vintage travel trailer</a> for its sturdiness and natural light.</p><p>In order to make the RV feel like home, Blu said that she's spent about $3,000 on furniture and <a href="https://www.insider.com/photos-woman-spent-5000-transforming-dingy-vintage-rv-2021-4">renovations</a>, which included updating the sewage system, replacing old light fixtures, and replumbing the shower.</p><p>This summer, she plans to reseal and resurface the roof.</p><p>By January, Blu and her dog Finley had moved into their new <keyword id="9121649" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tiny-home">tiny home</keyword> in Seaview, Washington. </p><p>Inside, there's a bedroom, kitchen, and living space. She gave the living area an electric fireplace for a cozy element.</p><div type="image" title="IMG_4250" height="1124" width="1500" msid="82298072" hostid="261"></div><p>The trailer also has a double sliding-glass door, windows on every wall, and its original light-pink fridge.</p><p>Blu has added personal touches to the RV, from meaningful artwork to colorful textiles. She said that when she's sick, she's bedridden, so she wants the home to be a place where she can heal and be creative.</p><div type="image" title="1953 Boles Aero Park Model renovation sora blu" height="1070" width="1428" msid="82298076" hostid="261"></div><p>Blu said that working with an empty trailer gave her the chance to <keyword id="6373314" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Design">design</keyword> it with the things she loves - all while keeping its original charm<strong>.</strong> </p><p>She opted for a mint-green and pastel-pink color palette and described the space as a cross between mid-century modern and art deco.</p><p>"It has that '50s charm, but it also has sort of an elegance to it," she said.  </p><h2>Blu's journey to tiny living has been empowering</h2><div type="image" title="DSC_3417" height="933" width="1244" msid="82298078" hostid="261"></div><p>Blu said that living tiny has given her the freedom she was looking for.</p><p>Blu said that since she's paid off her trailer, her monthly costs are minimal. With her apothecary business and working a few other jobs, she says that living in her RV has helped her achieve financial stability.</p><p>Beyond the financial benefits, Blu says that living in <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sora.blu/?hl=en">Sirona</a> - which is what she's named her trailer - has afforded her a sense of independence, as it's the first space where she's lived alone.</p><p>While she might not live in a mansion or fill her RV with expensive things, at the end of the day she feels rich.</p><p>"For me, it's knowing that I can feed myself, my dog, take care of my house, and have all of my bills paid," she said. "And I feel rich."</p>

Inside a 1950s RV that a woman spent $3,000 turning into a tiny home on wheels with a fireplace

New Delhi, May 27 (IANSlife) Sanitary pads are made of plastic, contain cellulose gum and have an absorbent material that converts liquid to gel. All these substances make these sanitary napkins highly polluting and harmful for the environment.<br /><br />They have been polluting the environment and also land up in water bodies due to lack of proper disposal systems. These pads are often found washed upon beaches and obstruct sewerage system in cities leading to waterlogging.<br /><br />So, it is important to consider more environment-friendly options -- most of these materials can be classified as either being reusable or disposable, says Dr Diksha S. Chadha Director, Medical &amp; CSR Division, Sirona (PeeBuddy).<br /><br />The disposable options include biodegradable pads and organic tampons or tampons with cardboard applicators. Biodegradable pads are made out of varying proportions of bio-plastics and natural compounds such as cotton, banana fibre, bamboo and similar products. These pads are equally absorbent and can even be put into the composting pit. Depending upon the amount of bio-plastic in them, they will turn to compost in few months to a few years, she points out.<br /><br />Dr Chadha lists down few ways how to go sustainable while maintaining menstrual hygiene: <br /><br />Reusable pads - The reusable options include a reusable cloth pad fashioned with wings and buttons to make them as functional as the usual sanitary pads. These reusable cloth pads are washable and reusable for up to 200-400 washes depending upon the cloth quality. The cloth pad should be dried in sunlight in order to disinfect them and prevent infections. <br /><br />Period panty- Similar to a reusable cloth pad is a period-panty, which has an inbuilt space to add cotton roll or cotton cloth to use as per the flow of the user.<br /><br />Menstrual cup - A menstrual cup is inserted into the vagina to collect menstrual blood. The user may then remove the cup after 6-8 hours and simply empty the contents and re-insert the cup after a simple wash. The cup only needs to be sterilized once in between cycles using steam sterilization (for which devices are now available in the market) or disinfectant cup washes. A menstrual cup is made up of medical grade silicone and can be reused for 3-5 or even up to 10 years depending upon the quality of material of cup and the maintenance by the user. A cup is eco-friendly, economical, and medically safe to use. The user can even choose a size that fits her well based on her built, age and history of vaginal birth.<br /><br />Oxo-biodegradable bags - While the basket of choice is full already, let us not forget the disposal of disposable products. The products should never be flushed and can easily be thrown away using oxo-biodegradable bags available in the market. World Menstrual Hygiene Day: Ways to go sustainable

<ul><li>After the global pandemic, <keyword id="49089" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sustainability" source="Orion">sustainability</keyword> and health seem to have become important factors for consumers.</li><li>According to Capgemini’s recent report, consumers engage more readily with brands and retailers that they perceive to be sustainable and genuinely committed to green practices.</li><li>The report found that 48% of consumers share an emotional connection with products or organizations that demonstrate eco-friendly qualities.</li><li>As we move forward this year and health concerns and sustainability continue influencing consumer decisions, we speak to brands, research and design agencies about how brands can integrate sustainability into their core values and move beyond mere lip-service.</li></ul>It might be a new year but the world continues to grapple with familiar challenges and threats: we are on the verge of entering the third wave of COVID-19, the country’s capital, New Delhi is currently facing alarmingly high levels of indoor air pollution and Uttarakhand's forest fires emitted nearly 0.2 megatonnes of carbon in the past one month, a record since 2003 (CAMS report). So 2022 will clearly be a busy year for brands as consumers get more serious about climate change and expect brands to increase their focus on living sustainably in harmony with nature. <br /><br />While businesses exist to make money, Manish Chowdhary, Co-CEO, Body Cupid Pvt Limited says that there are two ways to do that. He explained, “One is sustainable, by keeping other living and non-living things in mind. The other one is inspired by greed. So no matter how small a brand’s effort may be, it has to be aligned with sustainability if the brand wants to continue in the long run. Brands exist for consumers and it is important that we listen to what they want.” <br /><br />From driving workforce diversity to taking a stand on climate change, there’s a definite change that has taken place in consumer expectations. In the last few years, sustainability has become one of the biggest decision-making factors for consumers, and more so after the pandemic. They have realised that mother earth has suffered enough. <br /><br />In this digital world, consumers are demanding more transparency and are quick to call out greenwashing. They are expecting to see concrete actions. And as Chowdhary said, it has become imperative for brands to listen to what consumers want because they exist to serve consumers. <br /><br />Today’s consumers are not only pivoting towards more sustainable products but are also willing to pay a premium for them. Gen Z and Millennials lead all other age groups in this respect. When shopping for groceries, 72% of Gen Z and 66% of Millennials say they are willing to pay more for organic foods and in fact, did so the last time they were grocery shopping, compared to 56% of Boomers, found Capgemini. Its recent report said that 80% of consumers want to contribute to the fight to save the planet for future generations. <br /><br />And it is not just a phase. 70% of consumers agreed that post-pandemic, they will be more careful in terms of maintaining and protecting their personal health. Covid has only reminded us that there is a long way to go on sustainability. <br /><br />On how the pandemic has altered consumer behaviour, Lulu Raghavan, Managing Director, Landor and Fitch said, “The pandemic has fundamentally shifted consumer behaviour. An IBM study shows that 93% of consumers have changed their views on sustainability after the pandemic. This is totally understandable. The horrid virus which came out of nowhere has ravaged lives, ruined livelihoods. The only silver lining is that it has woken us up to the paramount importance of our own health and wellbeing and that of our Mother Earth. Sustainability is now a definitive transformative force that will upend existing industries and create new ones. If digital transformation was the buzzword in corporate boardrooms, ECG will take centre stage in the coming decade.” <br /><br />But what exactly is a sustainable brand? Ashwini Deshpande, Co-Founder and Director, Elephant Design defines it as, “A brand that values ethical sourcing and supply chains, is inclusive, and follows environment-friendly processes and materials while staying viable for its stakeholders is qualified to be labelled as a sustainable brand.” <br /><br />Kartik Johari, VP, Marketing &amp; Commerce, Nobel Hygiene believes that in the coming months, people will start to question what is sustainable and what is not along with how we can continue to reduce our carbon footprint across all aspects of our lives.<br /><br />He said, “Consumers at the end of it are people and they expect what is good. The ‘brand promise’ is essential to them. Now, alongside they are also making space for the environment due to excellent work by activists and journalists around the world. You will remember, for example, that riveting photo of a straw stuck in a turtle's nose. How many millions of turtles have we lost to this? Yet it took just that one photo to break through the global psyche. Now straws are the Number One environmental enemy. But this does not mean the onus should be entirely on people to choose better! Companies have to improve their offering. And that is correct for consumers to expect. Moreover, important to note, there are some 50 or 60 companies in the world, which are responsible for majority of emissions. Strong regulations on them can solve what collectively 500 million people may have to do. But who’s going to bell the cat? As Mr Musk rightly has been saying that, give the solar industry the same amount of subsidies, for a year, that you give to oil and gas, and see the amount of transformative change it brings! The onus cannot be on that one little end consumer and their war to save their environment.”<br /><br />During the pandemic, brands like WOW Skin Science, Diageo and Dettol launched eco-friendly packaging to test the waters, indicating that more brands in India have started reevaluating their packaging strategy to put the environment first. Big FMCG companies such as Marico, HUL, Nestle India, Future Consumer, Coca-Cola, Pepsi-co, Parle Agro also announced in 2020 that they will move to 100% recyclable packaging by 2025 helping towards a sustainable future. <br /><br />Joining the bandwagon, the Indian Government has also started its efforts towards reducing our country’s carbon footprint. Currently, India is the world’s third-largest emitter of carbon dioxide, after the US and China. According to an Assocham and PwC report, landfills are brimming with so much urban waste that by 2050, India is reportedly going to need a landfill that's the size of its capital, New Delhi. And consumers aren’t ignoring these horrifying numbers anymore. <br /><br />Elysha Young, Trends Manager, Mintel APAC said, "India’s Prime Minister has pledged it will reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, backed by aggressive 2030 targets. By laying the groundwork in the form of policies, India is signaling that it is open and willing to support innovation around sustainability, and indeed that carbon-emitting industries will no longer be tolerated. This presents an opportunity for global companies looking to tap into India's vast population but also issues a challenge to foreign and domestic companies to ensure they are cutting emissions throughout their value chain. It's in India's self-interest to stem global warming, with the nation of 1.3 billion people being one of the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The nature of the short-term targets means that action will need to be taken immediately, which will see a strong focus on renewable energy sources like solar and wind power, as well as the batteries needed to store such energy. Companies would do well to look at the emissions within their own value chains and determine where cuts can be made. Communicating these to consumers will help them to make choices that align with the national strategy; the opportunity exists to ensure consumers feel like they're also doing their bit."<br /><br /><strong>In 2022, brands that snooze will definitely lose</strong><br /><br />More and more consumers are becoming aware of their choices and realising that whether it is a worn-out piece of mask they decide to throw or a sanitary napkin or even as simple as a plain t-shirt, never really goes ‘away.’ It all ends up in a landfill. Human activities are clearly harming the global environment and brands have no choice but to migrate to sustainable solutions and work towards building a circular economy. <br /><br />So, in 2022, if brands don’t switch, they lose consumers, investors, and all stakeholders. <br /><br />Chowdhary said, “At the industry level, there is nothing without sustainability. The consumers of today are conscious and aware. They know the choices they are making. So if companies &amp; brands do not opt for sustainable practices, eventually the smart consumers are going to make a switch. We can only expect the awareness to grow and actions to increase, especially with the challenges that our planet is facing today.” <br /><br />Anjali Malthankar, National Strategy Director, Tonic Worldwide sees sustainability as one of the big topics in 2022 – right from fashion, green products, green living to electric vehicles, every category will be touched by sustainability filter.<br /><br />She said, “If the brands have already not made sustainability part of their commitment in any form yet, it’s high time they join the eco-wakening movement. Consumers are already looking for some form of reassurance or the other from brands in terms of conscious behaviour, as consumers are at different stages of adoption – it is a mix of curious, concerned, and advocates. At the very least, they are looking to not feel guilty about consuming the brand. Conscious living, mindful living, Green living, purposeful living are all the buzz words in communications today. For brands it is inevitable to have sustainability as a larger goal.” <br /><br />It is not just the environment and consumers who benefit from eco-friendly practices, businesses with low carbon footprints are more likely to have a better brand image and can easily woo consumers. <br /><br />Deep Bajaj, CEO &amp; Co-Founder, Sirona Hygiene said, “Companies are realizing that being conscious of their environmental impact can benefit them in every manner possible. Consumers desire sustainability owing to the ailing earth. Companies that work to become more environmentally responsible, not only contribute to a better future, but also establish a progressive brand image, happier employees, and a loyal client base. Consumers are real people who are affected by real environmental issues on a daily basis. They are aware that it is no longer limited to textbooks and that industrial activities have a direct impact on their daily lives. As a result, what goes into the making of a product and what goes inside it is extremely important to them. Other than environmental consciousness, they expect transparency from brands.”<br /><br />While brands in India have already started taking baby steps towards converting their business into a sustainable choice for consumers, we will get to witness more demonstrable actions in 2022. And those who fail to prioritise mother earth, will have to face consumers’ wrath. <br /><br />Deshpande said, “The emerging consumer base of millennials &amp; Gen Z is not a forgiving lot when it comes to ethics or ecology being compromised by a brand. But others are not quite as aware and may base their decision only on factors like price or convenience above sustainability. <br /><br />There is no choice. It is a survival mandate for a brand to become sustainable. Otherwise, we will see every resource being depleted in the next few decades.” <br /><br />Kantar BrandZ data shows that brands with weak purpose grow 70% but brands with strong purpose grow 175%. At the same time, India is still a price-sensitive country and consumers stick to the convenience of buying what you are used to. <br /><br />So, on how brands can move beyond mere lip-service and greenwashing this year, Raghvan suggested, “Use innovation to develop products developed against that purpose. Embrace design thinking across the board. Embed a new mindset deeply in the culture and transform from within. Communicate and evangelise with consumers."<br /><br />In 2022, experts are confident that brands will embrace sustainability that will benefit people, planet and profit.<br />

Evercore had about 1,000 employees in 2013, while Centerview employs </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/centerview-partners-is-top-mergers-acquisitions-boutique-2015-12">between 200 and 225 people</a><span>. Moelis has about 650 employees.</span></p><p><span>The pool of senior staff is small still. <ul><li>Many research studies conducted across the world show that women are more stressed and discouraged since the pandemic began as they take on an increasing amount of responsibility at home and in their careers.</li><li>The ad, media and marketing industry has a lot more women today than a decade ago. However, many drop out by the time they reach mid-management levels, primarily due to the lack of flexible hours and ever-increasing workload.</li><li>So this Women’s Day, we decided to speak to women in leadership positions about how we can make women feel welcome at workplaces. They told us how employers can support women and create a more high-trust, inclusive environment for the future.</li><li>The women leaders we spoke to believe organizations need to prioritize training more women, to prepare them for leadership roles, and this should be a part of the company’s culture.</li></ul>In the work-from-home era, the responsibility of unpaid domestic work and raising kids has fallen on Indian women more than men. This has affected their ambitions and careers, widening the gender gap at the workplace. A McKinsey report found that women around the world have been deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has heightened the large and small inequalities—both at work and at home—that women face daily. One in four women are considering leaving the workforce or downshifting their careers versus one in five men. <br /><br />Women only form less than a third of the workforce in marketing, sales and less than a fifth in data analysis, and artificial intelligence, revealed a World Economic Forum’s 2020 study. Another survey by Deloitte found that 51% of women are less optimistic about their career prospects than they were before the pandemic. <br /><br />A lot of women who have chosen to stick to their jobs have missed out on a fair promotion or raise. A LinkedIn report shows that 85% of women in India have missed out on a raise, promotion because of their gender. Women’s careers are observed to have been more adversely affected despite increasing flexibility at work, as 68% of women and 74% of working mothers in India say it is difficult to balance career and familial responsibilities today. More than 7 in 10 women and working mothers in India also say that household responsibilities often come in their way of their career progression.<br /><br />As you move up in the hierarchy of the corporate world, there’s also a lack of women leaders in the upper rungs. As per Egon Zehnder Global Diversity Report 2020, women in India occupy 5% of executive chairs and 10% of non-executive chairs. The report indicates that only 11% of committee chairs are held by women, while the number stands at 27.3% globally. <br /><br />Having said that, the world of advertising, marketing and media has seen a lot of <keyword id="3275573" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="women-in-leadership-roles" source="Orion">women in leadership roles</keyword>. While we are still far from an equal man-woman ratio in the industry, it is heartening to see more and more women take the top spots.<br /><br />On the other hand, advertising and media are industries that hold a lot of power in shifting perceptions and mending beliefs. The advertising industry was infamous for perpetuating gender stereotypes -- from a sacrificing mother to a man being the bread-earner, the portrayal of women has remained very shallow for years. How brands depict women and their role in society has evolved today, she is independent, she has a voice and is slowly learning to care less about society’s judgement, but we haven’t taken a big leap yet. She is still a woman who is ‘aesthetically pleasing,’ fair-skinned, doesn’t come from a minority community and is a little far from real. There’s almost no progress towards including transwomen in women’s day ads or communication throughout the year. <br /><br />Once we achieve an equal number of gender representation inside Indian advertising agencies, media organisations and the marketing world, there will be diverse opinions in a brainstorming session, leading to better B2C communication. <br /><br />So this women’s day, we decided to speak to women in leadership positions about how we can make women feel welcome at workplaces. They told us how employers can support women and create a more high-trust, inclusive environment during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.<br /><br />Here’s what they had to say about improving equality at work:<br /><br /><strong>Meghana Dave - Head Marketing &amp; PR, Lamborghini India:</strong><br />Power v/s Purpose, women inherently are purpose-driven. The changing environment requires leadership that is driven by adaptability, agility and ambition. Today, companies need these traits to outperform competition which has to deliver in the known and unknown environment. To bring balance and speed with positivity, we need more women in the leadership role. Look at what Falguni Nayyar has done with Nykaa or Anjali Sudd has done with Vimeo. In the 21st century companies will need purpose, innovation and balance to achieve the top position, and the right time to bring women to lead the next generation of business growth. To encourage more women to join these industries by encouraging new formats of working culture or environment. Covid has challenged the traditional approach, and today work from home has become the new normal. Secondly, by promoting diversity and opening leadership positions for women and third, we can improve the pay scale and inculcate mentorship for potential women leaders. <br /><br /><strong>Rachna Kanwar, Chief Operating Officer, Digital Media, Radio City and Mid-Day:</strong><br />Women in Corporate India have taken a heavy toll during Covid 19 lockdowns. Organisations, however, rarely recognise the double effort that women have to put into their regular day, which during the pandemic, ravaged their mental and physical health. Having said that, women emerged stronger, seldom seeking ‘preferential treatment.’ Companies need to address and recognise this effort as women continue to remain underrepresented at all levels. Thankfully, in the Media industry, with the inclusion of advertising &amp; marketing, there have been plenty of examples of women super achievers acting as role models for younger women which has led to greater gender parity, but women leaders still need to play a major role in supporting and seeing to it that more leaders emerge from the shadows of doubt and stereotypes to claim their rightful places. It is heartening to see more and more women leaders at Radio City and Midday and all of us here are committed to diversity and excellence.<br /><br />Building a positive mindset for diversity at all levels in an organisation goes a long way in ensuring an equal workplace. Strong women leaders in the organisation act as role models for women aspiring to reach the top. They also help in providing a more empathetic environment which is required at certain delicate stages of a woman employee’s career. And lastly, they provide the much needed confidence both for the women employees and the organisation by being a case study in excellence. At Radio City, a large number of leadership positions are held by women which motivates and inspires the mid-level and entry-level women employees to dream big. Diversity has many virtues and numerous reports time and again have proved that a diverse organisation is a better organisation. Radio City was amongst ‘India’s Best Workplaces for Women in 2019.’ Additionally, in 2020, Radio City ranked 4th in ‘Best Large Workplaces in Asia’, according to the GPTW survey.<br /><br /><strong>Jyotsna Uttamchandani, Executive Director, Syska Group:</strong><br />I think what is happening is we are definitely attracting more women, but are unable to retain them. The industry also needs to take steps to stop showcasing and representing women in stereotypical ways. The truth is women need to start taking credit for their work, brag and self-promote. What men need to understand is with diversity creativity and innovation only booms. I personally feel advertising, media and marketing industries are more unstructured, and there is no one to help you climb that ladder. You will have to do it yourself. More so we need more women, to help support and mentor other women.<br /><br />I think to be a safe and inclusive environment, we really need to listen to our employees. I have always said that my employees are my first customers. Goals and expectations need to be set mutually, team members need to appreciate each other and there has to be a certain level of trust within the team.<br /><br /><strong>Megha Agarwal, CXO-Growth, Meesho:</strong><br />In my last 12 years of working, I have seen many smart women entering the workforce but also taking a step back and stepping out, especially at two pivotal points – marriage and motherhood. The societal maxim is such that it places higher expectations on women, compelling them to juggle many roles – wife, mother, primary caregiver among others. What is imperative is to create support structures that empower them to strike the perfect balance between personal and professional commitments. An example on this front could be Meesho’s recent boundaryless workplace model, enabling people to work from home/ anywhere so that it gives flexibility to facilitate adjustments.<br /><br />Additionally, we, as employers, also need to make a perception shift towards sabbaticals taken by women to rear children. These vital steps could be further bolstered by initiatives aimed to ease their comeback into the workforce again. The responsibility lies with us to act as change agents to create the change we aspire to see.<br /><br /><b>Pragya Misra, Public Affairs Director at Truecaller:</b><br />I have always believed that empathy, freedom to be authentic and listening are critical to building a work environment that promotes equality. This begins with introducing diversity in the leadership so that the perspectives and related challenges of different employee profiles can be properly understood and addressed. Finally, implementing flexible policies, promoting healthy and non-late work hours, having industry standard pay scale and having actionable punishments (and transparency) in place for any intolerant offenses are some of the other measures that can be put into place to ensure a safe and equal work environment. <br /><br />At Truecaller, being respectful, celebrating diversity and equality in the workplace is deeply set in our values as a company. We continue to make communication safer through our spam blocking, scam and fraud alerts, this principle of safety reflects in our workplace through our employee policies.<br /><br />The inability to feel safe in both offline and online spaces adversely impacts women’s confidence and hinders their ability to grow and thrive. This year we are urging people to #CallitOut and report harassment to the authorities when you see or experience it. We are bringing together all the key stakeholders like government, law enforcement, civil society, mental health experts, lawyers and survivors to work collaboratively to improve the safety of women and continue our 5 year long effort to minimise harassment. This year, we want to create an environment that allows women to feel safe in society, their workplace and in their online communication.<br /><br /><strong>Kanika Mittal, Large Customer Solutions, Lead at Twitter India:</strong><br />I strongly believe that a leader is only as good as his/her team &amp; therefore our path starts with building a team that looks like the amazing people of all backgrounds and abilities who use our service every day. Actively showing appreciation to the staff, and encouraging them to exhibit appreciation for each other, is an easy and gratifying way to establish a great working atmosphere. Employees, both male and female, should be taught about ethical behavior and how to create a culture that supports everyone's safety. Although enforcing policies and holding instructional sessions are beneficial, a process or system that promotes power equality in the business can be implemented, reducing the number of unpleasant experiences. <br /><br />My advice to all wonderful women around me will be to ’Take a stand for yourself &amp; be vocal. They are the true manifestation of sustainable growth. A woman inherently is nurturing and being in a leadership position helps her in cultivating an inclusive work culture with diversity at the core of the organizational structure. This diversity is the precursor of diverse ideas that stimulates creativity and champions for more quality in business operations. Women have a warm and welcoming disposition which enables the organization to develop a much stronger bond and connect with their customers.<br /><br />In any workforce, the major loophole at the very base level is the lack of proper guidance to define the roles and duties to be fulfilled by a person. In order to help them realize their true potential, it is important to first connect with the people. By putting themselves in other’s shoes it becomes easier to understand the situation better and provide a relatable solution. As developing a connection and affinity for people comes naturally to women, in leadership positions they are better able to relate with and understand the pain of their teammates.<br /><br />To get women to join the advertising and marketing industry the mantra is very simple, just make them feel they are making ads for themselves. As women are better listeners and good storytellers, one needs to harness these qualities of women to motivate them to pursue a career in this field. They are better adept at giving a diverse perspective and drawing holistic pictures to a narration. Advertising and marketing is not about selling products, it goes way beyond and is about telling the right story. It is about connecting with the brand rather than the product as the products can be replaced but the brand remains constant. And women love and enjoy such jobs, it is just that we need to tap on this quality of women. <br /><br /><strong>Sowmya Iyer, Founder and CEO of DVio Digital:</strong><br />Women have faced more significant economic hardships through the pandemic - disproportionately losing jobs and income. A recent report by LinkedIn shows how Covid-19 has impacted women’s careers. About 85% of women in India have missed out on a promotion because of their gender. Despite the increase in flexibility at work, women’s careers are observed to have been more adversely affected. So, it is safe to say that we are far away from building an inclusive environment for employees of all gender spectrum. Company policies will have to be redefined and relooked at to give women space to work, grow, and balance their careers and Homes. <br /><br />DViO Digital, is an equal opportunity provider. This includes 6.9% growth of women directors and above, totalling 51.1%.<br /><br /><strong>Aditi Shrivastava, CEO &amp; Co-Founder, Pocket Aces:</strong><br />It all starts from the top. If there is equality in the mind, it will automatically trickle down to every level within the organization. A few key base rules I always keep in mind: <br />● Think in terms of <em>equity </em>(not stock options in this case, but what is required to get people to the same level) rather than <em>equality </em>(i.e. providing the exact opportunities to each person) <br /><br />● Be a true meritocracy <br /><br />● Even in the most equal households, women are often expected to be the primary caretaker of children or parents, so keep that in mind <br /><br />● Don’t forget to groom young female talent in the company right from the go by increasing their confidence levels and encouraging them to not be ambivalent about their ambitions and dreams <br /><br />● Discourage even mildly offensive loose talk / jokes at the workplace ● Have a strong POSH committee in place <br /><br />● Encourage older male employees / leaders to unlearn from previous “male club” workplaces and see the value their female counterparts can add <br /><br />Overall, be conscious about gender diversity and equity. It won’t happen by chance.<br />
