In 2023, the average salary hike was 9.5 per cent, according to consultancy firm <keyword id="20234986" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mercer" source="keywords">Mercer</keyword>'s Total Remuneration Survey (<keyword id="20176169" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="trs" source="keywords">TRS</keyword>) released on Tuesday. "This trend showcases India's strong economic performance and its growing appeal as a hub for innovation and talent. Employees in the automobile, manufacturing &amp; engineering and life sciences in India are projected to see the highest salary increment increases, highlighting the competitive nature of these sectors," it said. The survey, conducted between May and August 2023, gathered data from 1,474 companies, covering more than 6,000 job roles and representing more than 21 lakh employees. It focused on salary trends across various industries, with individual performance, organisation performance and position in salary range being the top three factors determining increments. The median merit salary increments in India are expected to reach 10 per cent in 2024, which was on top of a 9.5 per cent increase in 2023, the survey said. In India, it said the rate of voluntary attrition has shown a gradual increase from 12.1 per cent in 2021 to 13.5 per cent in 2022. CoinSwitch launches $10 million Web 3 Discovery Fund to invest in early-stage Indian startups

The increase in number of dengue cases, ahead of the monsoon season, has put <keyword id="6354750" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="health" source="Orion">health</keyword> officials in <keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> on alert. The state's Director General, Health, Vedvrata Singh said that Uttar Pradesh has the required medical infrastructure to counter the outbreak of dengue but the key to prevention was in the hands of the people. "There are 70 labs in the state with the facility of dengue testing at the moment and another 88 labs are being developed. Rapid Response (RR) teams have been formed at the block level who will take immediate action. Earlier such teams existed at the district level. At the same time, fever health desks have been established in every hospital," he said. Director, Communicable Diseases, A.K. Singh said that there is neither any medicine nor any vaccine for dengue and therefore, efforts should be made to prevent the mosquito bite. The agreement was signed in the presence of <keyword id="11579676" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="shri-arun-singhal">Shri Arun Singhal</keyword>, CEO, FSSAI, and Professor Bejon Misra, Adviser, Public Affairs, ASCI, on July 1st. As per the agreement, ASCI will identify advertisements which prima facie violate provisions of Food Safety And Standards (Advertising And Claims) Regulations, 2018, and FSSAI would further investigate these. Under the agreement, ASCI will set up a three-member expert panel to evaluate F&amp;B advertising identified by the ASCI monitoring team. There has been a marked increase in the number of complaints against F&amp;B ads during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the last financial year (FY) ASCI has processed a total number of 285 complaints compared to 175 in FY 2019-20. So, claims by F&amp;B brands, particularly those related to health and nutrition, are under greater scrutiny. Food and health continue to be important focus areas for ASCI. With this association, ASCI further strengthens its 360-degree approach of protecting consumers as well as guiding brands, agencies, and influencers towards greater responsibility. Manisha Kapoor, Secretary-General, ASCI, said: “With this agreement, ASCI will intensify its scrutiny of the F&amp;B sector. We will tap our National Advertising Monitoring Service, which monitors over 900 TV channels and publications, and over 3,000 websites. Besides national brands, we will examine regional and local ones. Our experts, with decades of experience in the F&amp;B sector, will shortlist those advertisements that require further scrutiny by FSSAI.” Subhash Kamath, Chairman, ASCI, added: “This is a significant collaboration. Singhal will lead Adobe's Digital Experience business across the country and would report to Ben Goodman, Head of Digital Experience, APAC, Adobe. "Singhal is an experienced leader touted for leading high performance teams, transforming technology businesses and building strategy for long-term growth," said Goodman. At Salesforce, he was responsible for building go-to-market strategy for scale, partner and channel execution as Vice President, Commercial Business. Singhal has held a diverse set of leadership roles for some of the industry's top brands, including Oracle, IBM and Microsoft. After retiring from Google in February 2016, <keyword id="6372293" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amit-Singhal">Amit Singhal</keyword>, a former Google Fellow who is often regarded as the master of Google 'ranking algorithm', has decided to join the board of directors at fitness startup GOQii. Singhal was associated with Google for 15 years. 
 
In an interview to ET, Singhal stated that prior to joining the Vishal Gondal-founded firm, he had also invested in it as an angel investor in 2014. 
 
Now that he has joined the board of the start-up, he hopes to bring his expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning he brings from Google to boost GOQii, so that the service can be made more predictive and preventive. 
 
"The idea that is most intriguing about GOQii is having a human being working with artificial intelligence to motivate the user," he said. 
 
Born in Jhansi, the 47-year old also said, "It is not just some bit of learning... but there will be a lot of artificial intelligence going in the background. The interface to these things has not evolved to a point where a human being is fully comfortable with it, especially in an area like health and wellness... so a lot of science has to be worked upon. The world needs good health and it needs to be motivated about it." 
 
Singhal said that combining algorithmic-machine learning to human beings makes it a very powerful model. "I have always believed in the symphony between machines and human beings to achieve things that won't be achieved otherwise," said the PhD holder from Cornell University. 
 
Taking of the start-up, GOQii has got investments from the venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Chinese mobile internet company Cheetah Mobile and DSG Consumer Partners; along with having many other Silicon Valley stalwarts, like WhatsApp’s Neeraj Arora, Flextronics’s Mike McNamara, Seagate’s Steve Luczo, Basis’s Bharat Vasan and Dr Shriram Nene as angel investors.

Mukesh Ambani-backed <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>’s entry into the telecom sector, along with its disruptive pricing, is all set to put a big dent on the mobile virtual network operator (<keyword id="164995" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="MVNO">MVNO</keyword>) market, which was predicted at Rs 26,000 crore. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/reliance-jio-announces-yet-another-plan-for-jio-subscribers-hints-on-bringing-in-more/articleshow/57957224.cms">Jio</a>’s entry has already affected existing telcos, forcing them to slash costs and take <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/small-business/tech/idea-to-merge-with-vodafone-india-time-to-say-hello-to-indias-biggest-telco/articleshow/57728557.cms">aggressive decisions</a> to stay afloat. 
 
It was a year ago that the Modi government had allowed telcos to sell bulk voice minutes and bandwidth to smaller entities, which were called MVNOs and could resell in less-penetrated rural and remote regions with tele-density below the half-way mark.

 "The dynamics for the MVNO industry could change with Jio's ultra-affordable pricing impact, and with the number of telcos also likely to fall with the current wave of consolidation, the parenting landscape for VNOs might also shrink as there will be fewer telecom operators," <keyword id="2810922" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amitabh-Singhal">Amitabh Singhal</keyword>, director, Telxess Consulting Services, told ET.

MVNO market might fall face first because of Reliance Jio

If you are an aspiring entrepreneur or a wantrepreneur equipped with a dream to create a billion-dollar business in India, one of the IITs is your best bet. 
 Unicorns are <keyword id="6362513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startups">startups</keyword> with more than a billion-dollar valuation and the IITs have produced 12 unicorns. 
 
Sage, a UK-based accounting, and payroll company stated this in a research and reinstated the belief that the premier institution is still numero uno for attaining success. 
 
In terms of countries that are home to the most number of unicorns, US tops the list with 144 unicorns, followed by China with 47. India grabbed the third spot with 10.

 The <keyword id="73593" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="University-of-California">University of California</keyword> came third with 18 unicorn founders and <keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT">IIT</keyword> followed with 12 founders. 
 India is home to 10 unicorn companies from e-commerce giants <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> and ShopClues to cab aggregator Ola, restaurant aggregator Zomato, classified ads platform Quickr, digital payments company <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword>, mobile ad tech player InMobi, messaging app Hike and analytics company Mu Sigma.
