<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/56b47b01dd0895d75f8b46cd-1040-780/conversation2.jpg" alt="conversation2" data-mce-source="Getty" /><p class="source"><span>Getty</span></p><p class="caption">Jimmy Fallon and Sienna Miller having a whispered conversation.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Oil prices have crashed more than 70% over the last 18 months and are wrecking havoc on energy and mining stocks.</p><p><a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/arcellormittal-bg-group-losses-2015-oil-steel-2015-2016-2">BG Group, the FTSE 100-listed oil giant, on Friday announced a$1.17 billion loss</a> and earlier this week <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/bp-2015-profits-fall-51-7000-job-cuts-planned-2016-2">BP reported a 51% fall in profits and 7,000 job cuts.</a></p><p>You get the picture.</p><p>The collapse in oil prices means a lot of investors are having to rethink their portfolios.</p><p>But there's one big mistake that people make when it comes to oil and the impact on investment decisions - <strong>current low oil prices are a bad thing.</strong></p><p>A conversation that Stephen Macklow-Smith, Head of European Equities Strategy at JP Morgan Asset Management, had with an unnamed client recently perfectly illustrates the point. We currently lack a clear catalyst for that, but we would expect to see the very short-term (and historically unusual) positive correlation between equities and oil prices start to discontinue.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Recent declines in oil triggering falls in equities would seem to suggest investors are inferring some sort of signal about the health of global demand, when in fact <strong>the falling oil price is so obviously a function of the supply side of the story. It would be a mistake to interpret the falling oil price as a negative</strong>, given it <strong>effectively acts as a windfall tax break for consumers, giving them more money to spend</strong>."</p><p>So he's pretty positive about the state of Europe this year. This is despite the Eurostoxx 50 being down over 14% in the last year and crude oil and brent oil are both hovering in the low $30 per barrel range.</p><p>Macklow-Smith says the correlation between stocks and oil is "historically unusual" and probably because investors are taking the price fall as a sign of stalling global growth when really it's just due to oversupply.</p><p>He says there could be a buying opportunity:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Most investors continue to expect fairly pedestrian but positive real rates of growth across the developed world - we see no reason to fundamentally alter that view. <strong>Therefore markets pricing in significant risk of recession, as they have done lately, strike us as entirely too pessimistic</strong>. If we look at common sentiment indicators, <strong>some are signalling a state of near panic. If nothing else, on a contrarian basis, that should indicate a buying opportunity for investors. </strong></p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"Current valuations are not challenging and we continue to expect earnings growth in Europe this year. <strong>Outside of the troubled commodities and energy sectors, the domestic economy in Europe is actually looking fairly healthy.</strong>"</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/56b47b01dd0895d75f8b46ce-783-384/european stocks1.jpg" alt="european stocks1" data-mce-source="Google Finance" /><p class="source"><span>Google Finance</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>He isn't the only one that is positive about the effect of oil prices on the economy. This morning Bank of England deputy governor Ben Broadbent told BBC Radio 5live's <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0070lr5" class="story-body__link">Wake Up To Money</a> that <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/bank-of-england-ben-broadbent-oil-prices-and-uk-economy-2016-2">the oil price crash is good for Britain's economy</a>.</p><p>"I think it's a net good," he said to the BBC. He said that the 7% rise in real wages over the last two years has largely been down to "the drop in oil prices. That's boosted consumption and <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> growth overall."</p><p>"It was only in the latter part of 2012, once confidence about the Eurozone had begun to come back, that the UK economy really got going. A conversation between a JPMorgan chief and a client reveals the biggest mistake people make about oil

So was her co-star Amy Adams.</p><p>Fellow female stars like <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/jessica-chastain-the-martian-wage-gap_56214dc3e4b02f6a900c44cf">Jessica Chastain</a> and <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/oct/16/rooney-mara-hollywood-gender-pay-gap-frustrating-jennifer-lawrence">Rooney Mara</a> have since said they've been paid less than male co-stars too, and <a href="http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-34527407">Sienna Miller</a> said she turned down a role in a play that was offering significantly less than the male lead was given. </p><p>Bradley Cooper, who starred in "American Hustle" with Lawrence and Adams in 2013 and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/bradley-cooper-comments-on-jennifer-lawrences-pay-gap-essay-2015-10">negotiated a higher contract</a> than them, was so taken aback by Lawrence's essay that he told <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/bradley-cooper-on-gender-pay-gap-2015-10">Reuters</a> he wants to begin teaming up with his female co-stars to negotiate fair salaries together before committing to a film. </p><p>But not every actor is planning to go as far as Cooper.</p><p>Business Insider asked Jeremy Renner, who also starred in "American Hustle," if he would also be willing to negotiate alongside his female co-stars on future projects. He also was <a href="http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/12/12/exclusive-sony-hack-reveals-jennifer-lawrence-is-paid-less-than-her-male-co-stars.html">paid more than Adams and Lawrence</a> for his role in the film, according to a Sony email leaked during the hack on the company.</p><p>"That's not my job," Renner said, while taking part in an intimate press day on Tuesday for the new "<a href="http://www.just-drinks.com/news/exclusive-remy-cointreau-launches-global-remy-martin-cognac-push_id118455.aspx">One Life/Live Them</a>" campaign he's doing for Rémy Martin Cognac.</p><p>"I don't know contracts and money and all that sort of stuff," Renner went on to say.</p><p>Adding he fully supports actresses receiving equal pay as actors, he said he's more focused on his craft than what everyone is making.</p><p>"I'm a performer and I know human behavior. When it comes to that sort of stuff I let other people deal with that," said the two-time Oscar nominee. "I do what I'm good at, that's what I focus on."</p><p>It should be noted that actors and actresses are rarely involved in the negotiating process and leave the deals to agents, managers, and lawyers.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/51fd709fecad04f94400001d-2897-1448/american-hustle-1.jpg" alt="american hustle" data-mce-source="Francois Duhamel / Sony Pictures" /><p class="source"><span>Francois Duhamel / Sony Pictures</span></p><p class="caption">"American Hustle."</p></div><p></p></div></div>This is evident, as most of the actresses who have spoken out recently about the wage disparity issue have noted that they only learned about how much more their male actors were paid long after they worked on the film.</p><p>Cooper also told Reuters, <span>"Usually you don't talk about the financial stuff, you have people."</span></p><p>Lawrence, who Forbes named 2015's world's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jennifer-lawrence-is-worlds-highest-paid-actress-of-2015-2015-8">highest-paid actress</a> with $52 million (Robert Downey Jr. was the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/robert-downey-jr-is-the-worlds-highest-paid-actor-2015-8">highest-paid actor</a> in 2015 with $80 million), said in her essay that she learned how much Cooper, Renner, and the other male actors made on "American Hustle" through the emails leaked following the Sony hack. And that she wasn't mad at Sony, which released the film, but herself for giving up too early in the negotiation process.</p><p>"But if I'm honest with myself," she went on to write in the essay, "I would be lying if I didn't say there was an element of wanting to be liked that influenced my decision to close the deal without a real fight. I didn't want to seem 'difficult' or 'spoiled.' <p>The doll's stiffness is evident as Bradley Cooper and his onscreen wife, played by Sienna Miller, pass the partially mechanized baby back and forth as they discuss Cooper leaving for another tour during what is supposed to be an emotional scene.</p>

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Many have hypothesized that Eastwood's fast-paced shooting style didn't allow production enough time to find another real baby.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/american-snipers-fake-baby-mocked-764702" target="_blank">The Hollywood Reporter</a> explained the difficulty of having a real baby on a film set:</span></strong></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span><span>Shooting in California poses some challenges when employing a real baby given the state's strict laws (part of the movie was shot in Los Angeles). Infants must be at least 15 days old, and babies from that age up to six months can be employed for only one period of two consecutive hours in any given day. Moreover, that time frame has to be between 9:30-11:30 a.m. or from 2:30-4:30 p.m., and one studio teacher along with one nurse must be on set during filming.</span></span></p>
<p><span><span>Doesn't sound ideal for Eastwood's directing style.</span></span></p>

People Are Up In Arms Over The Obviously Fake Baby Used In 'American Sniper'

Not necessarily physical, but definitely mental.<p>Over the two decades he's been making movies, Gray has dealt with everything from battles with Harvey Weinstein over <a href="http://pagesix.com/2017/03/28/director-james-gray-blasts-harvey-weinstein-in-interview/" target="_blank">two of his movies</a> ("The Yards" and "The Immigrant") to navigating the media circus created when the star of his movie "Two Lovers," Joaquin Phoenix, suddenly decided to quit acting and become a <a href="http://deadline.com/2009/02/two-lovers-director-baffled-by-joaquin-8441/" target="_blank">hip-hop artist</a> (Phoenix later admitted the whole thing was a hoax).</p><p>So going into the jungle to make a movie about an explorer's obsession with finding a lost city wasn't exactly something that intimidated the 47-year-old director, at least in theory.</p><p>But then the toils of making "The Lost City of Z," out Friday (it's based on the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Lost-City-Deadly-Obsession-Amazon/dp/1400078458" target="_blank">nonfiction book</a>), almost did break Gray over the nine-year period of putting it together, plagued with one crisis after another.</p><p>Movies set in the jungle include some of cinema's most memorable works - Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now," Werner Herzog's "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" and "Fitzcarraldo." They've also been the sources of legendary stories about the grueling efforts to pull them off.</p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/58efd06a77bb709d0a8b8489-968" alt="apocalypse now united artists" /><p class="source"><span>United Artists</span></p><p class="caption">(L-R) Marlon Brandon and Francis Ford Coppola on the set of "Apocalypse Now."</p>Herzog, the poster child of the jungle movie, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF5xBtaL3YI" target="_blank">once said</a> on the set of "Fitzcarraldo," "Taking a close look at what's around us there is some sort of harmony - it is the harmony of overwhelming and collective murder." Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now" was plagued with typhoon, the need for millions of dollars to complete it, and the star, Martin Sheen, suffering a heart attack during production.<p>Gray was aware of what the jungle can do to filmmaking when Brad Pitt's production company Plan B called him in 2008 offering him the job to adapt "The Lost City of Z." Though he agreed to make the movie, even his friends tried to talk him out of it.</p><p>A friend, director Matt Reeves ("Dawn of the Planet of the Apes"), gave Gray a warning after seeing the script.</p><p>"He calls me and says, 'Why do you want to make this movie? I don't understand.' So I said, 'What do you mean, it's that bad?' And he said, 'It's not bad - I just don't understand why you would ever want to do that.' He was talking about the craziness of pulling off the shoot," Gray recently told Business Insider.</p><p>But then he had a conversation with Coppola.</p><p>"I found out that Francis went to Roger Corman before shooting 'Apocalypse Now' and asked him what it was like shooting in the jungle and Corman wrote back, 'Don't go,'" Gray said. "But Francis is the last person to tell you don't go. He was the opposite with me. He not only told me to do it, he said, 'You know, I have this place in Belize.' And I was thinking maybe I go shoot at Coppola's resort in Belize, but that was totally impractical."</p><p>But Coppola's urging gave Gray the comfort he needed.</p><p>"The Lost City of Z" is Gray's most ambitious work yet. It follows British explorer Percy Fawcett, who in 1925 went into the Amazon jungle with his son to find an ancient lost city he believed existed and never returned.</p><p>To build up to the drama of Fawcett's final journey to find Z, Gray recounts the years before, which included exciting attempts to find clues to the city as well as fighting in World War I.</p><p>Charlie Hunnam gives an incredible performance as Fawcett with Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, and Sienna Miller rounding out the cast.</p><p>Though the casting seems spot-on - especially Hunnam in the lead - it was the challenge of finding the star after Brad Pitt backed out that almost caused Gray to walk away from the movie.</p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/58efcef68af57896638b5a66-2372/undefined" alt="Brad Pitt James Gray Getty" /><p class="source"><span>Getty</span></p><p class="caption">(L-R) Brad Pitt and James Gray.</p>For over a year, Gray talked to Pitt about playing Fawcett while Gray was scouting locations in Brazil, but things quickly didn't work out as planned.<p>"Brad bought the book and I don't know how much thought he did give originally of him playing [Fawcett] but he knew it was something of interest," Gray said. "Then he went to make 'World War Z' and the movie fell apart." (Pitt is still a producer on the film.)</p><p>Gray forgot about the project and made "The Immigrant." Then while in postproduction on the movie he got a call from Plan B about having Benedict Cumberbatch play Fawcett.</p><p>"He has this great face and voice so I said, 'Great, let's make it,'" Gray said.</p><p>But two weeks before production was supposed to start, Gray got a call from a very sad Cumberbatch.</p><p>"He called and said he couldn't do the shoot. His wife was pregnant and would have given birth when we were in Amazonia," Gray said. "I couldn't be angry about it. So then I gave up. I said this is not going to happen."</p><p>The jungle delivered its wrath even before shooting started. But then Gray got a call from Plan B again a few months later.</p><p>"They asked about Charlie Hunnam and I said, 'Unacceptable. I will not cast some California biker dude to do a British accent,'" Gray said.</p><p>Having known Hunnam only from the FX show "Sons of Anarchy," he was shocked when the producers informed him that Hunnam was actually from Newcastle, England.</p><p>"I thought he was from Newport Beach," Gray said.</p><p>The two had dinner and Gray was instantly sold. Not just on his looks, which Gray compares to a 1930s movie star, but also on the actor's desire.</p><p>"He needed to prove himself," Gray said. "He felt inadequate on a creative level, that he hasn't gotten the chance to do the quality of work that he wants to do. So next thing I knew I was on a raft in the jungle with the guy."</p><p>Principal photography lasted from August to October 2015. Filming took place in Northern Ireland and in the jungles of Colombia. And shooting in the jungle had its fair share of injuries and sicknesses. Hunnam woke up late one night to find that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/charlie-hunnam-almost-died-on-set-of-lost-city-of-z-2017-3">a beetle had crawled into his ear</a>, one of the grips was bitten by a viper, another crew member got malaria, and two people in the AD department got <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dengue_fever" target="_blank">dengue fever</a>.</p><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/58efcf368af57876648b5a55-900/undefined" alt="The Lost City of Z Amazon" /><p class="source"><span>Amazon</span></p><p class="caption">James Gray (L) on the set of "The Lost City of Z."</p>Gray, however, survived the shoot unscathed. He wore long-sleeve shirts and pants that had <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permethrin" target="_blank">permethrin</a> in the clothing, which kept him from any disease-carrying bugs, though he admits he looked like a beekeeper. He also brought along a suitcase full of San Marzano tomatoes to make pasta every night for himself and the crew, which he said kept him away from stomach problems.<p>"It's a very high-class problem," Gray said of the stories about jungle shoots. "You have all these people working for you to realize your dream and that pain goes away and all you remember is the glorious time of making it. The pain has gone away for me."</p><p>Gray admits that after wrapping "The Lost City of Z" he vowed he would never make a movie in the jungle again. He even ignored editing the jungle footage until that was all that was left to edit. But now he has a deep affection for the jungle.</p><p>"I used to not understand people like Herzog who keep coming back to the jungle, but now I understand," Gray said. "It's the most heightened form of your existence, much more than the cold or the desert. I've been to Everest, there's nothing there other than the goddamn mountain. The jungle is exploding with life. You cannot fall to sleep at night, that's how loud the insects and animal life is. Would I ever go back? If the material was right, I would. Yeah, I would."</p><p><em>"The Lost City of Z" opens in select theaters on Friday and goes nationwide April 21. How the best movie of the year so far, 'The Lost City of Z,' almost fell apart

<p>While many are at home opening presents, Christmas Day is one of the biggest movie days of the year. </p><p>This year, there are 10 movies opening between Friday and Christmas and a bunch of other wide releases that have opened in the past week.</p><p>If you're considering heading to the theaters, we've rounded up the wider releases that are worth checking out and have also included what you should skip. There are a lot of clunkers.</p><h2><strong>In theaters as of Wednesday, 12/21</strong></h2><h3><strong>1. Skip (at all costs): "Passengers"</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a55-2000" alt="passengers chris pratt jennifer lawrence" data-mce-source="Sony Pictures" /><p class="source"><span>Sony Pictures</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about:<span> </span></strong>Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are on a spaceship heading for another planet. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BWWWQzTpNU">Trailers</a> make it seem like the pair's hibernation pods open 90 years too early at the same time and then they fall in love and have to save the ship from danger. </p><p><strong>Why you should skip:</strong> You would think that a Lawrence and Pratt team-up in space would be good, but the reviews tell a much different story. Peter Travers at Rolling Stone wrote, "<a href="http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/reviews/peter-travers-passengers-movie-review-w456720">what could have been a challenging moral provocation dissolves into sappy, feel-good pandering.</a><span>"</span></p><p>One of the <a href="http://www.thisisinsider.com/why-passengers-is-bad-2016-12">biggest complaints</a> is that the movie is being marketed as a sci-fi thriller with two of Hollywood's biggest stars when it's actually a creepier story that glorifies Stockholm Syndrome. Pratt's character wakes up alone and after being bored for a year and wanting some company, opens the pod of Aurora (Lawrence) who he's been creepily obsessing over.</p><h3><strong>2. Skip: "Assassin's Creed"</strong></h3><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/57340817dd0895710d8b488e-2400" alt="michael fassbender assassins creed" data-mce-source="Fox" /><p class="source"><span>Fox</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>The Fox movie is the latest adaptation of a popular video game franchise. After learning he's a descendant of a mysterious society called the Assassins, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) uses technology to experience the adventures of his ancestor in 15th Century Spain and take down a dangerous organization.</p><p><strong>Why you should pass:</strong> Hollywood just can't make video game movies and "Assassin's Creed" unfortunately proves no different. While reviews suggest it's better than other video games adaptations, that's not high praise. Many found it a confusing jumble of CG with no idea why big names like Fassbender and Marion Cotillard would attach themselves to the title. EW says these are the <a href="http://ew.com/movies/2016/12/21/assassins-creed-ew-review/">worst two performances Fassbender has given in a movie</a>.</p><h3><strong>3. For the kids: "Sing"</strong></h3><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a56-1846" alt="sing" data-mce-source="Universal" /><p class="source"><span>Universal</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>Basically, it looks like "American Idol" in the form of a children's movie. According to the film's synopsis, it's actually about a koala named Buster Moon trying to save his theater by hosting a singing competition.</p><p><strong>Why to see it: </strong>Other than "Moana," there really isn't any other feel-good animated movie out for kids. For parents who may have already taken their kids to see the Disney flick over the Thanksgiving break, this is something many kids may be asking to see for the bright, colorful, and wacky characters along with the music. Parents may have more fun trying to guess the A-list actors voicing the characters (Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, and Scarlett Johansson are just some of the names.)</p><p><strong>Why to pass:</strong> If you're hoping for "Zootopia," that's not what you're getting here. You'll probably see the ending of this one coming. Still, there are worse things you could see. </p><h3><strong>4. See it: "Patriots Day"</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a57-1858" alt="kevin bacon patriots day" data-mce-source="CBS Films" /><p class="source"><span>CBS Films</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about:</strong> Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, and Kevin Bacon star in this movie recounting the Boston Marathon bombing and the efforts taken by the community, police officers, and first responders afterwards. </p><p><strong>Why to see it:</strong> Most audiences and critics agree that the movie <a href="https://www.timeout.com/us/film/patriots-day">balances telling the story from the point-of-view of the victims, officers, and perpetrators</a> in a powerful tribute. This is one you may want to break the tissues out for. It will have a wider release on January 13. </p><h2><strong>In theaters as of Friday, December 23</strong></h2><h3><strong>5. Skip: "Why Him?"</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a58-2000" alt="why him" data-mce-source="Scott Garfield/20th Century Fox" /><p class="source"><span>Scott Garfield/20th Century Fox</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>When Ned (Bryan Cranston) and his family visit his daughter at college, they meet her billionaire Silicon Valley boyfriend Laird (James Franco). Covered in tattoos and unabashedly open about what he says, Ned freaks out when Laird says he wants to propose.</p><p><strong>Why to skip:</strong> A James Franco and Bryan Cranston pairing sounds - and looks - hilarious, but apparently, the movie's kind of a dud and not as funny as you hope. Adam Graham of the "Detroit News" said it reminded him of "Meet the Parents" "<a href="http://www.detroitnews.com/story/entertainment/movies/2016/12/22/movie-review-will-make-ask-movie/95773542/">but littered with F-bombs.</a>"</p><h3><strong>6. See it: "A Monster Calls"</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/57c9cd86dd0895313a8b4abd-1500" alt="A Monster Calls" data-mce-source="BBC" /><p class="source"><span>BBC</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>A 13-year-old meets a tree monster who helps him cope with his mom's terminal cancer.</p><p><strong>Why to see it: </strong>Based on a children's book,<strong> </strong>"A Monster Calls" is a dark and yet enchanting coming-of-age tale. Plus, it stars Felicity Jones, who's currently starring in "Star Wars" movie "Rogue One," Sigourney Weaver, and Liam Neeson voices the tree! See it: "Silence"</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a59-2000" alt="silence" data-mce-source="Kerry Brown/Paramount Pictures" /><p class="source"><span>Kerry Brown/Paramount Pictures</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>Two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) travel to Japan in search of their mentor (Liam Neeson). </p><p><strong>Why to see it: </strong>Martin Scorsese has been trying to adapt Shusaku Endo's 1966 novel for about 30 years, and this has been called one of his best. Plan to spend some time with this one after it's done. NPR referred to it as Scorsese's "<a href="http://www.npr.org/2016/12/23/506341698/scorseses-silence-a-clash-of-cultures-and-creeds-in-16th-century-japan?utm_medium=RSS&amp;utm_campaign=movies">most punishing film since Raging Bull.</a>" The movie opens wide January 6.</p><h2>In theaters Christmas Day, December 25</h2><h3><strong>8. Denzel Washington stars in the film as the father who is holding his son back, but he also directed the film based on a play. Viola Davis co-stars as his wife.</p><h3><strong>9. See it: "Hidden Figures"</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a5b-1920" alt="Hidden Figures movie" data-mce-source="20th Century Fox" /><p class="source"><span>20th Century Fox</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>The film follows the overlooked story of three African-American women working at Nasa during the launch of astronaut John Glenn into space.</p><p><strong>Why to see it: </strong>Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer deliver an inspiring story that touches upon social issues while delivering some humor, too. Plus, singer Janelle Monae is in it!</p><h3><strong>10. Reviews agree that Mills' latest is pleasurable and delightful next step for the director.</p><h3><strong>11. Skip: "Live by Night"</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a5d-1850" alt="live by night" data-mce-source="Warner Bros." /><p class="source"><span>Warner Bros.</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>Set during the prohibition, the film follows the son of a Boston police cop, Joe Coughlin, who goes on to become a gangster involved in organized crime. </p><p><strong>Why to skip: </strong>Despite a cast starring Ben Affleck, Zoe Saldana, Elle Fanning, and Sienna Miller, the majority of reviews agree this crime saga feels unoriginal and doesn't completely come together.</p><h2><strong>Other movies out:</strong></h2><h3><strong>12. For the romantics/music lovers: "La La Land" </strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a5e-2400/llld2905187r.jpg" alt="la la land emma stone ryan gosling" data-mce-source="Summit Entertainment" /><p class="source"><span>Summit Entertainment</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and (Emma Stone) navigate finding success in acting and music in old Hollywood while balancing a relationship.</p><p><strong>Why see it: </strong>Who wouldn't want to see a musical with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone dancing and singing? The two have undeniable chemistry and Stone's dresses are the envy of any fashionista. Be warned: This isn't a movie with a happy ending. The whimsical film is dreamlike in its character's aspirations, but realistic in its ultimate message. </p><h3><strong>13. See it: "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a5f-2000/undefined" alt="jyn erso rogue one" data-mce-source="Disney/Lucasfilm" /><p class="source"><span>Disney/Lucasfilm</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>A group of rebels set out to steal plans for the ultimate planet killer, the Death Star.</p><p><strong>Why to see it: </strong>Taking place between the prequel and original trilogies, "Rogue One" perfectly marries the older "Star Wars" movies to the newer ones without compromising any of the original storytelling. If anything, it adds to it. Even if you haven't seen any "Star Wars" movies, "Rogue One" serves as a nice entry point into the series. And, yes, it has an awesome Darth Vader scene.</p><h3><strong>14. Skip: "Collateral Beauty"</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a60-1844" alt="collateral beauty" data-mce-source="Warner Bros." /><p class="source"><span>Warner Bros.</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>After suffering a great tragedy, Howard (Will Smith) has difficulty bouncing back and has withdrawn himself from his work and friends.</p><p><strong>Why to skip:</strong> Like "Passengers," this is a case of another mis-marketed movie, which may make viewers feel a bit cheated once they realize what it's actually about. Though Howard is being visited by these "spirits," they're actually all actors hired to get him back on his feet. Despite an all-star cast including Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, and Keira Knightley, the movie debuted as Smith's <a href="http://jezebel.com/collateral-beauty-is-unsurprisingly-will-smiths-worst-o-1790272985">worst-performing box-office opening</a>.</p><h3><strong>15. If you're looking for laughs: "Office Christmas Party"</strong></h3><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/585d9bbedd089536208b4a61-2000" alt="office christmas party" data-mce-source="Paramount Pictures" /><p class="source"><span>Paramount Pictures</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></strong></p><p><strong>What it's about: </strong>When their boss threatens to shut down their company branch, Josh and Clay decide to throw the ultimate office Christmas party to try and land a big client and save everyone's jobs.</p><p><strong>Why to skip:</strong> If you're not a fan of the comedy group from "Horrible Bosses," you may be rolling your eyes at this one as Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman reteam for this one with some "SNL" cast members. </p><p><strong>Why to see it:</strong> Not everyone will love this one, but I think the reviews are a bit harsh on it. "Office Christmas Party" is just fine, silly fun. Does it get a little over-the-top near the end? Sure, but T.J. Miller really helped sell this movie and add some laughs. There are over 10 movies coming to theaters Christmas week - here's what you should see

<p>Yesterday, <keyword id="5962" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Vanity-Fair">Vanity Fair</keyword> came out with its annual <a href="http://www.vanityfair.com/style/the-international-best-dressed-list">International Best Dressed List for 2013</a>. Making <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/vanity-fairs-best-dressed-men-2013-2013-7">this year's cut</a> were three very well-heeled brothers — Otis, Isaac, and Tara Ferry — known in Great Britain as the "<a href="http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/london-life/the-life-of-bryans-boys-meet-the-charming-and-scandalous-ferry-brothers-8543616.html">feral Ferrys</a>."</p>
<p>But they're not quite as well-known here across the pond.</p>
<p>So who are the Ferry brothers? Otis, Isaac, and Tara are the sons of Bryan Ferry, <span>the famous British lead singer of Roxy Music.</span> Their mother is Lucy Helmore, an aristocratic former model, who has since remarried nightclub tycoon Robin Birley. <span>The Ferrys have a fourth brother named Merlin who didn't make the Vanity Fair list.</span></p>
<p>The four brothers are frequent fodder for the British tabloids thanks to their run-ins with the law, ties to gorgeous socialites and models, and forays into the music industry. They're also incredibly charming, good looking, and talented.</p>

His first arrest was in August 2002 when he was caught planning to <a href="http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2002/08/03/1028157860006.html">plaster pro-hunting posters on the walls of then-Prime Minister Tony Blair's home</a> at 4 AM.</p>
<p>His most famous incident was two years later, when he and several other men <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/3656524.stm">broke into the chambers of the House of Commons</a> to protest a ban on hunting with dogs.</p>
<p>But the biggest legal trouble for Otis came when he was <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/5412582/Otis-Ferry-They-put-me-in-jail-for-my-beliefs.html">locked up for four months in a Category B prison</a> after being arrested for robbery, common assault, and alleged witness tampering in 2007. Ferry told The Telegraph he intervened in a fight between three pro-hunting and anti-hunting supporters, and took a video camera from the scene that documented the incident.</p>
<p>One of the anti-hunting supporters, however, claimed he had fought her for the camera and she was left injured, The Telegraph reported.</p>
<p>After his release, a judge later described Ferry's custody as "nonsensical and farcical," <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/5412582/Otis-Ferry-They-put-me-in-jail-for-my-beliefs.html">according to the Telegraph</a>. He was released on bail after four months and eventually pleaded down to a public order offense and paid a $685 fine. </p>
<p>Otis now lives in a two-bedroom cottage in Shropshire with 60 hunting hounds, five horses, and three pet dogs. His title as joint hunt master of the South Shropshire Hunt doesn't pay, so he makes ends meet by writing for a living and serving as a <a href="http://www.noblemacmillan.com/content/26-otis-ferry">spokesperson for leather brand Noble Macmillan</a>.</p>
<p>He's currently dating 22-year-old model Edie Campbell, who has been <a href="http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/2013/07/11/edie-campbell-receives-first-in-history-of-art-degree">featured on the cover of British Vogue</a>, and is the face of Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander, and Lanvin.</p>

<p>Merlin is a guitar player for the band Voltrob, and even played on one of his father's tracks for the 2010 album Olympia.</p>
<p>He's currently at Manchester University, and spent his gap year traveling around America. This adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Inherent-Vice-Novel-Thomas-Pynchon/dp/0143117564">novel of the same name</a> follows a drug-fueled detective through 1970s Los Angeles as he investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend. "Inherent Vice" marks the first time Anderson has adapted someone else's work. </p>

The film provides a rare glimpse of an interesting figure in such a way and at such an angle that only Abel Ferrara could pull off. </p>

While that may sound manipulatively sappy on the surface, Moverman has proven that he can handle heavily emotional material, as "The Messenger" had a similarly depressing sounding premise and wound up being incredibly moving. Gere is certainly ripe for an award-worthy performance, and "Time Out Of Mind" seems to be the perfect vehicle for one. </p>

DeMille lifetime achievement award at the <keyword id="2392" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Golden-Globes">Golden Globes</keyword> Sunday night, reactions to her speech varied from confusion to being moved to tears.</span></p>
<p>While often jumbled (Is she quitting acting? Wasn't she already out? Why does she hate Honey Boo Boo so much?), Foster's words on the right to privacy and the beauty of being abnormal were heartfelt and meaningful.</p>

You just ask those Golden Globies, because you've been around here forever. You know, Phil, you're a nut, Aida, Scott, thank you for honoring me tonight. <p><strong>Looking at all those clips, you know the hairdos and the freaky platform shows, it's like a home movie nightmare that just won't end</strong>, and all of these people sitting here at these tables, they're my family of sorts, you know. We've giggled through love scenes, we've punched and cried and spit and vomited and blown snot all over one another — and those are just the co-stars I liked. But you know more than anyone else, I share my most special memories with members of the crew. Blood-shaking friendships, brothers and sisters. We made movies together, and you can't get more intimate than that. </p>
<p>So when I'm here being all confessional, I guess <strong>I just have a sudden urge to say something that I've never really been able to air in public. So, a declaration … that I'm a little nervous about, but maybe not quite as nervous as my publicist right now, huh Jennifer? But you know, I'm just gonna put it out there, right? Loud and proud, right? So I'm gonna need your support on this. I am… single.</strong> Yes I am, I am single. No, I'm kidding. But I mean, I'm not really kidding, but I'm kind of kidding. Thank you for the enthusiasm. Can I get a wolf whistle or something? <strong>I hope you guys weren't hoping this would be a big coming out speech tonight, because I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago</strong>, back in the stone age. <strong>In those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family, co-workers, and then gradually, proudly to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met.</strong> <strong>But now apparently, I'm told that every celebrity is expected to honor the details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance, and a prime time reality show. You guys might be surprised, but I am not Honey Boo Boo Child.</strong> No, I'm sorry, that's just not me, it never was, and it never will be. But please don't cry, because my reality show would be so boring. I would have to make out with Marion Cotillard, I would have to spank Daniel Craig's bottom, you know, just to stay on the air. It's not bad work if you can get it though. </p>
<p>But seriously.<strong> If you had been a public figure from the time you were a toddler, if you'd had to fight for a life that felt real and honest and normal against all odds, then maybe you too might value privacy above all else.</strong> Privacy. Someday, in the future, people will look back and remember how beautiful it once was. <strong>I have given everything, up there, from the time that I was three years old. That's reality show enough, don't you think?</strong> There are a few secrets to keeping your psyche intact over such a long career. The first: Love people, and stay beside them. That table over there, 222, way out out in Idaho, Paris, Stockholm, that one next to the bathroom with all the unfamous faces — the very same faces for all these years. My acting agent, Joe Funicello — Joe, do you believe it, what, 38 years we've been working together? Even though he doesn't count the first eight. Matt Saber, Pat Kingsley, Jennifer Allen, Grant Iman and his uncle Jerry, may he rest in peace — lifers. My family and friends, here tonight and at home. <strong>And of course, Mel Gibson — you know you saved me too. </strong></p>
<p><strong>There is no way I could ever stand here without acknowledging one of the deepest loves of my life, my heroic co-parent, my ex-partner in love but righteous soul sister in life. My confessor, ski buddy, consigliere, most-beloved BFF of 20 years, Cydney Bernard. Thank you Cyd. I am so proud of our modern family, our amazing sons Charlie and Kit, who are my reason to breathe</strong>, and to evolve, my blood and soul<strong>.</strong> And boys, in case you didn't know it, this song, like all of this, this song is for you. This brings me to the greatest influence of my life, my amazing mother Evelyn. Mom, I know you're inside those blue eyes somewhere and that there are so many things that you won't understand tonight, but this is the only important one to take in: I love you, I love you, I love you. And I hope that if I say this three times, it will magically and perfectly enter into your soul, fill you with grace, and the joy of knowing that you did good in this life. You're a great mom. Please take that with you when you're finally OK to go. </p>
<p>You see Charlie and Kit, sometimes your mom loses it too. But I can't help but get moony, you know. This feels like the end of one era and the beginning of something else. Scary and exciting, and now what? <strong>Well, I'm never going to be up on this stage again. On any stage, for that matter. Change, you've gotta love it. I will continue to tell stories, to move people by being moved: the greatest job in the world. It's just that from now on, I may be holding a different talking stick.</strong> And maybe it won't be as sparkly. Maybe it won't open on three thousand screens. Maybe it will be so quiet and delicate that only dogs can hear it whistle. A Transcript Of Jodie Foster's Bizarre Golden Globes Speech

<p>While Ben Affleck was snubbed for a director nod at the Oscars, he got a double dose of vindication when he and the film scored victories for Best Director and Best Picture, Drama. "I don't care what the award is," he said while accepting the directing statue. He then thanked his wife, actress Jennifer Garner, for "sitting through this."</p>
<p>Lena Dunham, Daniel Day-Lewis, and "Les Misérables" also won big, while Sofia Vergara and "The Newsroom" came up short.</p>
