Police in Karnataka have released <keyword id="852496" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="siddhanth-kapoor" source="Orion">Siddhanth Kapoor</keyword>, son of veteran Bollywood actor <keyword id="17594" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shakti-kapoor" source="Orion">Shakti Kapoor</keyword>, on bail after he was arrested for consuming drugs at a party in Bengaluru. Along with four others, Siddhanth Kapoor, who is also an actor, was released late Monday night by the Halasuru police in the state capital. The police said that he has been asked to appear for inquiry on Tuesday at 11 a.m. A case has been registered under IPC Sections 20 A, 22 B, 27 B. The four other arrested persons were Akhil Soni, business manager of Mind Fire Solutions; Harjoth Singh, an industrialist; Hani, a digital marketing entrepreneur; and Akhil, a photographer. On Sunday night, the police seized 7 grams of MDMA crystals and 10 grams of marijuana after conducting a raid on the rave party organised at the five-star The Park hotel in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, officers from the Excise Department have also visited the hotel and conducted an inquiry. The arrests were made after medical tests confirmed that Siddhanth Kapoor and the four others had consumed drugs. The police are trying to find out details of other persons who attended the party. Shakti Kapoor's son released on bail a day after he was arrested on drug charges

Dubai, Apr 16 () India is fast-tracking procedures to supply hydroxychloroquine, a drug considered to be efficient in fighting the coronavirus, to the UAE after a request from the country's government, media reports here quoted the Indian envoy as saying.India's Ambassador to the UAE Pavan Kapoor said there is a huge demand for the anti-malarial drug from many countries and India is considering it on a case to case basis."As the drug is on the restricted list, we are obviously giving exception to the UAE, given the friendly relations between the two countries," Khaleej Times quoted Kapoor as saying.The global demand for hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) manufactured by India got a boost after some studies indicated that the drug, when paired with azithromycin, helped clear patients of the virus at a much faster rate than seen usually."There was a request from the government of the UAE to help out with the supply of HCQ," the Gulf News quoted Kapoor as saying.Kapoor said a few companies in the UAE requested the government to import the drug to the country."We received a note verbale from the UAE government also seeking support for the supply through those companies," he said."Whatever requests were made, we made sure that they reached the right authorities in the right format since this is a restricted medicine," Kapoor said.He said India is permitting the export of HCQ on a case-by-case basis on the request from governments of friendly countries. With the UAE government backing up the local companies' request for import for the medicine, he said, India is fast-tracking the procedures.The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Wednesday announced 432 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 5,365.The country has reported 33 deaths, including five expats of different nationalities. We had shortlisted three agencies as part of our search for a second agency. Amongst them, we saw the best creative and value fit in Stratton. In Stratton, we found a player that thrives on taking risks to break the marketing clutter. Additionally, for me, staying true to our core as Stratton was also of utmost importance. Therefore, what’s made this even more comforting or rather seamless is that all three of us widely agreed on keeping the essence of Stratton, now Sm(all), in sync with what I had initially envisioned it to be. The corporate side of the business – HR, Finance, IT – will have further synergies. At an execution level, Sm(all) brings its own unique and bold style of brand development that will build creative repute at the Agency as well as Group level. It is the same resilience that enabled us to be the first advertising agency that announced performance appraisals in July last year when most agencies and networks were cutting headcounts. We had promised our team no COVID-related job losses as early as April 2020. At Gozoop, we are always building for decades and we are ok to let go of short-term gain for long-term organization building. Like all businesses, our revenues too significantly suffered last year, but keeping the long in mind we wanted to protect our people. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q. In all these acquisitions, we first find a value synergy. In most of these acquisitions, the founder has been active in the business and hence a value alignment is critical. For eg. Yamini (founder of 56 Blue Lights) now leads our Gozoop Dubai operations. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q. Can you give us a sense of the deal in financial terms?" text="Q. The business did take a hit in the pandemic since it was majorly focused on the hospitality and F&amp;B sector. Today, we are well diversified amongst sectors and with the current pace of growth, we should soon outdo the pre-pandemic revenue numbers. When Indian censor board chief <keyword id="15361" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pahlaj-Nihalani">Pahlaj Nihalani</keyword> accused Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap of taking money from the Aam Aadmi Party (<keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword>) for making <keyword id="6356850" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Udta-Punjab">Udta Punjab</keyword> to show the State in bad light, he must have not realised it would boomerang. 
 
The whole controversy surrounding Bollywood movie Udta Punjab, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh, has knowingly or unknowingly worked in the favour of the AAP. 
 
Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh said, “It is a joke that Nihalani thinks AAP will give Anurag Kashyap money to make a film just to show BJP-SAD in a bad light. One need not go that far. It is all out in the open anyway. Drug abuse in Punjab is a harsh reality, and we are not supporting Kashyap here so much as we are backing the issue.” 
 
The accusations made by the censor board chief, which were rubbished by Anurag Kashyap, has given political plank to AAP for Punjab assembly elections in 2017-Drug menace. 
 
It is likely that AAP will give voice to the undertones of Punjab, who want to get rid of the menace, which has consumed many lives, taking away sole breadwinners from the families. 
 
AAP had surprised everyone in 2014 Lok Sabha polls by winning four seats in the lower house, and they were from Punjab. 
 
Since then, AAP has been making all efforts to cement its position in Punjab and derail SAD-BJP alliance. 
 
However, this is not the first time the AAP attacked the state government. In previous instances too, AAP leaders have openly accused Punjab Cabinet Ministers of being ‘drug lords’. 
 
“In the past, Sukhbir Badal has denied any drug menace in Punjab and his Cabinet Minister Surjit Jiyani has ruled out even a single drug-addict in the state, but on the other hand, Chief Minister Parkash Badal announced the opening of the country’s first Women Rehab Centre for de-addiction in the state,” AAP MP Bhagwant Mann had said. 
 
He also alleged that Punjab Cabinet Minister Bikramjit Majithia was a drug lord. 
 
Then, Majithia had filed a defamation case against the AAP leaders, including chief Arvind Kejriwal. 
 
In response to the defamation case, Bhagwant Mann said, “Badals should visit Maqbool Pura of Amritsar and Sur Singh village of Tarn Taran to assess how drugs ruined several families.” 
 
He has spoken the truth. 
 
The situation in Maqboolpura is very grim, as the village is now known as the ‘village of widows’. Families residing in the village say there is hardly any male member who is not affected by the drug menace and most of them have died. 
 
A study by Social Security Development of Women and Children department stated that 67 percent households in Punjab have at least one person addicted to drugs. The Narcotics Bureau stated that nearly 40 percent men in Punjab are hooked to drugs. 
 
Well, Kejriwal could gain ground in Punjab, dismantling the Punjab government. Only time will tell.

Virginia Ward, 46, a judge since 2002, hasn't sat behind the bench in almost 5 months. She presided over many cases of misdemeanor drug charges, but she's now seeing the courtroom from a drug defendant's perspective.
Ward faces up to 15 years in prison for possessing the highly addictive pain pill. She was investigated by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, which staked out a UPS store where she allegedly picked up drugs.
The DEA ultimately confiscated 398 Oxycodone pills from two shipments, the <a href="http://www.kansas.com/2013/08/27/2967231/judge-takes-plea-deal-on-drug.html">Associated Press</a> reported.
Ward, who said she used Oxycodone for neck pain, admitted knowing that her dealer would illegally distribute the pills, according to the Tribune. She said she completed a similar transaction with him before, in exchange for some of the Oxycodone.
She resigned on Aug. 19. In a letter to Salt Lake City Justice Court Director Curtis Preece, Ward wrote, "I ... deeply apologize."

New Delhi, The <keyword id="6357808" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="enforcement-directorate" source="Orion">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> (ED) has summoned actor <keyword id="6357861" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ranbir-kapoor" source="Orion">Ranbir Kapoor</keyword> for questioning on Friday in connection with the Mahadev betting application money-laundering case in Chhattisgarh, officials said. They said the agency has accused Kapoor of receiving money from the promoters of the app for promoting their product in the virtual (online) space. The ED has asked Kapoor to appear at the agency's Raipur office on October 6, they said. Despite several attempts to contact the actor, there was no response from him. Around 14-15 other celebrities and actors are under the ED's scanner in the case and they will also be summoned soon, sources said. The company promoted by Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal was being operated from Dubai. It was allegedly using the online book betting application to enrol new users, create IDs and launder money through a layered web of benami bank accounts, the agency has alleged. The ED investigation has shown that the <keyword id="18794103" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mahadev-online-book-app" source="Orion">Mahadev Online Book App</keyword> is run from a central head office in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), officials said. It operates by franchising "Panel/Branches" to their known associates on a 70-30 profit ratio, the agency had said. Large-scale hawala operations are done to siphon off the proceeds of betting to offshore accounts, it had said. A huge expenditure in cash has also been incurred in India for advertising of betting websites to attract new users and franchise (panel) seekers, it had said. The company promoters hail from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh and the Mahadev online book betting application is an umbrella syndicate arranging online platforms for enabling illegal betting websites.

<ul><li>A new study in the US shows positive signs that Gilead’s <keyword id="8775508" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="remdesivir">Remdesivir</keyword> antiviral drug could be a promising treatment for the coronavirus.</li><li>A contradictory <keyword id="400282" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lancet-study">Lancet study</keyword> indicates Remdesivir is yet to prove its benefits in a statistically significant way.</li><li>Lancet’s study concludes that a larger benefit may exist — or Remdesivir might actually do harm. Either way, more data is needed.</li></ul>Biotechnology giant Gilead, claims that the antiviral drug Remdesivir works as a plausible treatment for COVID-19. However, a contradictory <a href="https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)31023-0/fulltext">Lancet study</a> warns that there are no clinical benefits to patients who have tested positive for the coronavirus. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="75452521" title="Gilead's coronavirus treatment remdesivir just succeeded in a crucial study, raising hopes for a first COVID-19 drug" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), told reporters that the Adaptive COVID-19 Treatment Trial has cut down on recovery time for patients. Lancet has not analysed NIAID’s results but the results from a study conducted in China, which was testing Remdesivir. According to the medical journal, the antiviral drug shows hope but the results are far from being conclusive. While trials should continue, a paper by <a href="https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)31023-0/fulltext">John David Norrie</a> from the University of Edinburgh warns that, in the past, people have pinned their hopes on drugs like hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir-ritonavir only to be disappointed — even when randomised trials showed promise in the early days. Coronavirus recovery with Remdesivir In a lot of these early studies, recovery doesn’t necessarily mean being coronavirus-free. According to Fauci, recovery could mean many things. It could mean being hospitalized without ventilator support. It could also mean being discharged but needing oxygen support at home. At the same time, it doesn’t rule out an ideal scenario of being discharged without limitation on activities. The study that Lancet analysed also had similar constraints. On a scale to one to six, where one is being discharged and six is death, a patient’s results were considered to be successful if they only showed a decline of two points. “The study has not shown a statistically significant finding that confirms a Remdesivir treatment benefit of at least the minimally clinically important difference, nor has it ruled such a benefit out,” said the report. In cases where COVID-19 is caught early like within ten days of symptoms, were cured much faster than the others. However, these results are not statistically significant. Even Fauci pointed out that the difference in deaths — 8% in the Remdesivir group compared with 11% in the placebo — had not yet reached statistical significance. Lancet believes the results from Remdesivir are inconclusive Remdesivir may have the potential for treating coronavirus patients effectively, but as of now, it’s too soon to tell because most of the data that’s available is incomplete. The study in China, for instance, while being a well conducted double-bind, placebo-controlled, multicentre, and randomised trial — had to be terminated early, due to low enrollment. “The temptation to lower the threshold of convincing evidence must be resisted because adopting ineffective and potentially unsafe interventions risks only harm without worthwhile benefit while making it even harder to undertake trials to find truly effective and safe interventions,” said Lancet’s report. Investigators concluded that additional studies were needed to prove clinical benefit.“A larger benefit might exist, or Remdesivir might actually do harm. It is unknown—more data are needed,” it said.
