The resolution was moved to initiate discussions between the central government and elected representatives in Jammu and <keyword id="19896255" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kashmir" source="keywords">Kashmir</keyword>, a proposal that drew a furious response from <keyword id="20450486" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP-members" source="keywords">BJP members</keyword> who accused the Speaker of bias and lambasted the ruling National Conference (NC) government. Another BJP MLA, Sham Lal Sharma, went further, claiming the resolution had been prepared "in collusion with the Speaker in a guest house." "The mandate (of the Assembly polls) was in favor of abrogation of Article 370 because we (BJP) got 26 percent votes against NC's 23 percent," Sham Lal Sharma argued, framing the election results as support for the Centre’s 2019 decision to revoke Article 370. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary defended the resolution, emphasizing the need to restore special status. In presenting the resolution, Choudhary declared, "This Assembly reaffirms the importance of the special status and constitutional guarantees, which safeguarded the identity, culture, and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and expresses concern over their unilateral removal." The resolution also called for the Government of India to initiate a dialogue with the elected representatives of Jammu and Kashmir for the restoration of special status and constitutional guarantees and to devise constitutional mechanisms to achieve these ends. "This Assembly emphasises that any process for restoration must safeguard both national unity and the legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," the document added. As the fallout continues, the resolution has stirred deep-seated <keyword id="21391765" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="political-tensions" source="keywords">political tensions</keyword>, exposing rifts within the Assembly and drawing the spotlight back on the long-running debate over Article 370. While Nifty closed the day at 24,572.65 points, inching up by 31.5 points, or 0.13%. On the other hand, Sensex dipped a mere 12.16 points to close the day at 80,424.68 points. Amidst Nifty50 constituents, 31 stocks saw advances, while 19 stocks declined during the day. <keyword id="20129733" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindalco" source="keywords">Hindalco</keyword> (up by 4%), <keyword id="22163816" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shri-ram-finance" source="keywords">Shri Ram Finance</keyword> (up by 3.47%), <keyword id="19908646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bpcl" source="keywords">BPCL</keyword> (up by 3.32%), Tata Steel (up by 3.06%) and LTI Mindtree (up by 2%) were amongst the top gainers during today's trade. On the other hand, Mahindra and Mahindra (down by 2.59%), Bajaj Auto (down by 1.17%), IndusInd Bank (down by 1.07%), Axis Bank (down by 1.02%) and SBI Life (down by 0.96%) were amidst the top laggards today. Out of the 2,838 stocks traded today on NSE, 1,975 stocks advanced while 758 saw declines, and another 105 remained unchanged. 160 stocks hit their 52-week high prices, while 17 stocks hit their 52-week low prices as well. 210 stocks remained in the upper circuit during the day, while 58 stocks hit the lower circuit as well. Most broad market indices on Nifty closed the day in green, with small cap and micro cap indices outperforming Nifty, gaining over 1% each. Amidst sectoral indices, bank, auto, financial services and private banks closed the day in red. On the other hand, media, metal, PSU banks and oil and gas indices gained over 1% each to close the day in green. <h2>Expert View</h2>Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares notes that Indian equities commenced the week on a strong note, but banking counters dragged the Index lower; however, <keyword id="19963566" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-stocks" source="keywords">IT stocks</keyword> delivered support to the index to recover from the lower levels but in the absence of momentum, the index remained rangebound for the rest of the day and settled at 24,572.65 with gains of 31.50 points. "Among the sectors, metal was the top performer by advancing over 1.80% followed by energy; and on the flip side, auto and banknifty were the major laggards. A mixed activity was seen in the broader markets where midcaps more or less moved in tandem with the frontline index, while small caps outperformed. On the daily chart, the index has made a small red candle, but the overall uptrend is intact and as per the range breakout, the approximate target comes to 24,870 with the downside being protected at 24,420", he continued. Shrikant Chouhan, head equity Research, Kotak Securities said that today, the benchmark indices witnessed lackluster activity. Nifty ends 31 points higher while the Sensex was down by 12 points. Among sectors, metal and oil and gas indices outperformed, both the indices rallied over 1.5%, whereas intraday profit booking were seen in selective auto stocks. "Technically, after a gap up opening market witnessed narrow range activity. We are of the view that, the larger market texture is still in to the positive side but fresh uptrend rally possible only after dismissal of 24,650/80,725 Above which market could move up till 24,725-24,775/81,000-81,200. On the flip side, below 24,520/80,330 the intraday selling pressure is likely to accelerate. Below the same, it could retest the level of 24,450-24,400/80,000-79,800", noted Chouhan. Osho Krishan, Senior Analyst - Technical &amp; Derivatives, Angel One Ltd, highlighted that the positive global cues and strong developments from the previous session resulted in a favorable start for our markets, but the subsequent buying was lacking in the benchmark index. The Nifty50 index remained within a narrow range of around 110 points, indicating tentativeness among the counterparties. Despite the hustles, the Nifty index had a modest positive start to the new week, closing above 24,570, with a slight gain of 0.13% "The market breadth clearly favoured the bulls, with their dominant performance in the advance-decline ratio reflecting a robust market undertone. However, the benchmark index stayed in a slender range, hovering within the bearish gap on the daily time frame chart. A decisive breakthrough is expected to have a significant impact on the momentum, providing a clearer picture of potential future market movements. Going forward, it will be crucial to closely monitor the banking index, as momentum in this sector could significantly boost market sentiments. In the absence of domestic triggers, it is important to be mindful of global developments as they are likely to influence market conditions", said Krishan.

Stock market closing: Nifty inches up marginally to close in green, Hindalco, BPCL take lead

After a spectacular rally, the pharma segment has formed a small bearish candle on the weekly chart. The round of correction, if any, is likely to be short-lived considering a strong bullish momentum. Technically, the larger texture of the market is still in to the weak side. "However, as long as it is trading above 24,200/79,200, the pullback formation is likely to continue up to 20 day SMA or 24,525/80,400. Further upside may also continue which could lift the market till 24,625/80,800. On the other side, dismissal of 24,200/79,200 could accelerate the selling pressure below which it could slip till 24,000/78,700 or 50 day SMA and 23,850/78,200. For Bank Nifty now, 50,000 would be the immediate reference point for the bulls. Above 50,000, it could bounce back up to 50,800 and 50 day SMA or 51,200. On the flip side, below 50,000 uptrend would be vulnerable", he continued. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities explains that the Nifty-50 index and Sensex declined around 1.5% each in the past week, while the mid-cap index lost around 1.3% and small-cap index lost 2% underperforming large-caps. "Market focus has swiftly moved on from the Union Budget, unveiled in the week, to the ongoing QFY25 earnings season and global factors. The market performance was impacted by a confluence of global factors, such as (1) a sharper-than-expected weakening of the US labor markets, (2) a sharp appreciation of USD-JPY, resulting in the unwinding of Yen carry trades globally and (3) increase in geo-political tensions in the Middle East", he said. "Sectoral indices were largely negative a week-on week basis except for Nifty FMCG, pharma and media. Sectoral indices like capital goods, consumer durable, auto, metal, reality, power and oil and gas list between 1 to 3%. While Bank Nifty was also weak falling around 1.5% during the week. Within the Nifty Index, Cipla (+3.1%), Eicher Motors (+2.4%) and JSW Steel (+1.6%) gained the most, while Titan (-4.4%), Hindalco (-4.3%) and Asian Paints (-4.3%) lost the most. Going forward, D-street will focus on the macro trends, inflation and global situation including geo-political concerns", continued Chouhan.

PSU banks were up by 1.66%, realty rose 1.15% and healthcare and consumer durables also inched up 2.73% and 1.5% respectively. Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd noted that today, the market experienced a significant rally, gaining nearly two percent and reversing the recent negativity. The upbeat tone was evident from the start, with substantial buying in heavyweights across various sectors further driving the momentum. Consequently, both the Nifty and Sensex closed near their highs at 24,834 and 81,332, respectively. "This surge was fueled by improved sentiment following robust performances in IT and Metal stocks, as well as significant rollovers to the August series. Broader indices also reflected this strength, showing substantial gains. The current trend suggests that bulls are in control, and we are likely to see further advances in the coming sessions. However, it is advised to remain selective, focusing on index majors and large midcaps", he continued.

Stock market closing: Sensex inches up over 1,200 points, Shri Ram Finance rallies over 9% during the day

The level of 24,200 is acting as rock-solid support for the Index and as long as the index holds it, the uptrend will remain intact. With the overbought conditions in the Auto sector, we recommend booking profits; however, selective buying can be seen in the ancillary space. We are bullish on ONGC and Reliance from the Energy space. The FMCG and IT sectors have given a breakout which indicates an extension of the current up-move. Keep an eye out for Colpal, Dabur, GodrejCP, ITC, Nestle-Tech Mahindra and Wipro. "We are bullish on the Pharma sector but it is approaching the higher end of the rising channel indicating a short-term reversal in the form of profit booking, however, the overall uptrend remains intact. Some stocks from the Textile segment have given a strong breakout namely Cantabil and Welspun Living", he continued. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities highlights that in the past week, the benchmark indices showed positive momentum, with the Nifty ending 0.73 percent higher and the Sensex gaining 522 points. The FMCG and IT sectors recorded strong momentum, both rallying over 3 percent. However, the Metal and Reality sectors experienced selling pressure despite the overall market momentum. "We believe that 24,400/80,100 and 24,350/79,800 would be crucial support levels for trend-following traders. On the higher side, 24,550-24,600/80,100-80,200 would serve as the resistance zone. A close above 24,650 could drive the market towards 24,900-25,000/81,000/81,300. Conversely, dropping below 24,350/79,800 could alter the sentiment, leading to a retest of the level of 24,150-24,100/79,500-79,100. The strategy should be reducing weak long positions between 24,550/24,600 levels. Buying is advisable around 24,250/24,200, with a stop loss at 24,100 on a closing basis. Our advice is to wait for a deeper correction before buying. Until then, focus on specific stocks", continues Chouhan.
