<ul><li>The online insurance broker’s stock tanked by around 12% as CEO Yashish Dahiya plans to sell up to 37.69 lakh lakh equity shares.</li><li>Dahiya holds 5.45% stake or 2.45 crore shares in the company.</li><li>Investor sentiment took a huge hit after the company announced that the CEO itself is selling stake amid difficult market conditions.</li></ul>Shares of PB Fintech, the parent company of <keyword id="696009" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Policybazaar" source="Orion">PolicyBazaar</keyword> and PaisaBazaar, took a deep dive after the company’s CEO sold his shares. The company informed exchanges at around 10 pm on June 6 that Yashish Dahiya, chairman and CEO of PB Fintech will sell up to 37 lakh equity shares via bulk deals. Since then, the stock went down by over 12% and its marketcap shrunk by around ₹3,000 crore or around $400 million since yesterday’ close, as per NSE data. Before the sale, Dahiya held a 5.45% stake in the company, which he received as ESOPs. Dahiya however would be selling his stake at a price lower than the company’s founders. In February, the co-founder of the company Alok Bansal sold 2.85 million shares for ₹236 crore at an average price of ₹825 apiece. In 2022 so far, the stock has slid 52% and is currently 40% below its IPO price. PolicyBazaar raised ₹5,709 crore via IPO in November 2021 which included fresh issue as well as offer for sale by promoters. Policybazaar is among the slew of tech companies that got listed in 2021 -- Zomato, Paytm and Nykaa. Unlike most of the companies that listed this year, PolicyBazaar’s investors enjoyed good listing gains of 17% on the issue price. PB Fintech’s business model to enjoy higher growth than other insurance players Analysts however believe the company is well placed to benefit from the rising insurance penetration in India, especially via digital distribution. “High growth, operating leverage, strong balance sheet and established brand recall among the Indian populace are its key business moats. This should help the company generate strong free cash flows as we expect its cost-to-income ratio to plateau ahead,” said a report by ICICI Securities. The brokerage expects the share price to grow to ₹940 per share. In FY20, PolicyBazaar was India’s largest digital insurance marketplace with 93% market share in terms of the number of policies sold. Also, 65% of all digital insurance sales in India in FY20 happened via PolicyBazaar. PolicyBazaar is largely into individual life insurance, retail health and motor insurance. This reflects in its overall revenues that doubled in three years between FY19 to FY21 at ₹606.9 crore. Policybazaar’s value shrinks by around $400 mn in a day after its CEO sells shares

Indian start ups are going through a rough phase. And to make sure that funding doesn’t stop, the new age tech companies are enthusiastically eager to get listed on Nasdaq, the American exchange. PB Fintech went public in November 2021, a few days before digital payments giant Paytm. The company listed on the stock exchange at a premium of 17%, at ₹1200, over the issue price of ₹980. However, the company’s shares have largely been on a downward trajectory since then. ICICI Securities gives a ‘buy’ call on PolicyBazaar and PaisaBazaar — know the target price

Besides this, the company’s ability to retain customers and strong relationships between insurers as well as lending partners are a big plus too. In terms of challenges, KR Choksey, believes that the customer’s changing needs can lead to a loss of customers in the future. “If a company's insurer and lending Partners fail to offer insurance and credit products catering to the evolving needs of consumers, the company may not be able to retain existing Consumers or attract new consumers to its online platforms,” the report read. PB Fintech’s promoters and cofounders Yashish Dahiya and Alok Bansal have cut their offer for sale by 85-90% because of increased interest in technology IPO, according to the company’s red herring prospectus (RHP). Earlier, chief executive officer (CEO) Dahiya was planning to sell shares worth ₹250 crore but it was later reduced to ₹30 crore. Chief financial officer (CFO) Bansal, on the other hand, has reduced his offer for sale from ₹95 crore to ₹ 12.7 crore. The difference has been highlighted in the company’s draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) as well as RHP. The Masayoshi Son-led investment firm— which has been an investor in PolicyBazaar since 2018 — owns about 13% stake in the IPO-bound company and is its largest shareholder. PB Fintech, which is the parent entity of insurance company PolicyBazaar and lending startup PaisaBazaar, will be launching its IPO on November 1. The issue size of the IPO is ₹5,709 crore consisting of a fresh issue of ₹3,759 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of ₹1,959 crore by its existing shareholders. The company will offer shares within a price band of ₹940-₹980 pre share. The lot size is 15 shares. As per the red herring prospectus, SoftBank will be selling shares worth ₹1,875 crore ($250 million). Yashish Dahiya — the chief executive of PB Fintech — will be selling shares worth ₹30 crore. Meanwhile, cofounder and chief financial officer (CFO) Alok Bansal will be selling shares worth ₹12.75 crore. India’s largest online insurance aggregator, PolicyBazaar, was launched in 2008. It is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the boom in India’s insurance sector as a market leader in selling insurance online. The company intends to use the proceeds from the public issue to expand its consumer base both online and offline, strategic acquisitions and investments, international expansion and other corporate purposes. Dahaiya, in a press conference, also highlighted that they have launched operations in Dubai as a significant population from India migrated to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for work. PolicyBazaar plans to raise close to $870 million through its IPO at a likely valuation of $3.5 billion

<ul><li>PB Fintech, parent company of PolicyBazaar, has announced to open its IPO on November 1 and close on November 3.</li><li>The internet company has set a price band of ₹940-₹980 per share.</li><li>Shares of the company are scheduled to list on November 15.</li></ul>PB Fintech, the parent company of online fintech marketplaces PolicyBazaar and PaisaBazaar, has announced its plan to open the initial public offering (IPO) next week. The IPO of the internet company will open on November 1 and close on November 3 with a price band of ₹940-₹980 per share. The issue size of the IPO is ₹5,709 crore consisting of a fresh issue of ₹3,759 crore and an offer for sale of ₹1,959 crore by its existing shareholders. Promoters selling share in the IPO include SVF Python II (Cayman) selling shares worth ₹1,875 crore, Yashish Dahiya -- the chief executive of PolicyBazaar -- worth ₹30 crore, Alok Bansal worth ₹12.75 crore, Shikha Dahiya worth ₹12.50 crore and Rajendra Singh Kuhar worth ₹3.50 crore. In addition, Founders United Trust will sell around 2.68 lakh shares, which aggregates to over ₹26 crore on the upper price band. PB Fintech has built two of the largest platforms for insurance and lending products through PolicyBazaar and PaisaBazaar. India’s largest online insurance aggregator, PolicyBazaar, was launched in 2008. It is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the boom in India’s insurance sector as a market leader in selling insurance online. PolicyBazaar is one among a slew of tech IPOs to hit the Indian exchanges this year. It is also one of the country’s top fintech startups ⁠— the other one being Paytm ⁠— going for a public issue soon. 95% of PolicyBazaar’s revenue comes from commissions from insurance companies on selling policies. PolicyBazaar’s parent to open its ₹5,700 crore IPO on November 1

With the world economy heading towards a possible slowdown and India being one of the major economies having any real chances of growing at a faster rate, everyone will be looking forward to how this year’s Budget will address the issue of stagnating private investment in India. With proper fiscal incentives in place, the <keyword id="35450" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="insurance">insurance</keyword> industry (being one of the major sources of long-term funds for the economy) can play a bigger role in pushing up public and private-sector investment and thus, help in achieving government’s goal of putting Indian economy on a high-speed track. 
	 
	Following is my wish list for 2016 Union Budget. 
	 
	A uniform <keyword id="167905" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="KYC">KYC</keyword> 
	 
	Unlike e-policy holders, offline insurance buyers have to undergo a lot of paperwork, as part of KYC procedures. In addition to this, insurers usually call for multiple KYCs for different policies and this act as deterrent for new investors to invest in insurance policies. Government must consider giving a strong push to uniform KYC and e-claims, irrespective of whether the policy is purchased online or offline. This would make the process of buying insurance policies and filing claims easier. 
	 
	Revise tax exemptions 
	 
	At present, premium of up to Rs.25000 paid for health insurance plans qualify for deduction under Section 80D. This limit rests at Rs.30000 in case of senior citizens. Tax exemption under health insurance plan should be revised as the current incentive is inadequate, taking into consideration the rising healthcare cost. Just to give you an example, a 55yr old sole earner in a family of 4 would easily spend upwards of Rs.30000 per annum for Rs.10lacs sum insured. Also, the current exemption does not provide incentives for those who buy long term health insurance plan. Increasing the income tax exemption limit in health insurance will encourage people to buy health policies with larger covers, and for longer tenure. 
	 
	Tax exemption for home insurance 
	 
	While catastrophic destruction caused by natural calamities such as Chennai floods and Nepal earthquake influenced people to think about getting their home and property insured, people continue to remain hesitant about getting their property insured and hence, end up procrastinating it. Home insurance enables people to deal with huge financial losses that they would otherwise incur in case of natural disasters. Introducing tax exemptions on house insurance premiums would encourage homeowners to insure their homes. 
	 
	Make term insurance attractive 
	 
	At present, term insurance products constitute just 0.4% of the total insurance products sold in India. Distributors find term insurance products unattractive as their payouts, as per current regulation, is just above zero percent. The cap on the payouts needs to be relaxed to make selling term insurance attractive for the distributors. This would go a long way in increasing the average life insurance coverage of Indians. 
	 
	To sum up, as low insurance penetration is a problem area, the FM should increase tax incentives to encourage people to buy adequate insurance cover. This will also help the insurance industry to raise more resources for financing government’s physical and social infrastructure programs.

Players in the insurance sector may have high hopes from the upcoming Union Budget 2015. After all, soon after taking charge the government had decided to raise the FDI cap from 26% to 49%. 
	 “The expectations from Union Budget 2015 are quite high, given that public-private sector as well as people at large expects the BJP-led government to ensure that India is on a high-growth trajectory. The mood of the insurance sector has been on an upswing ever since the ordinance bill increased the limit of FDI in insurance from 26% to 49%,” said Alok Bansal, co-founder and CFO of <keyword id="696009" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Policybazaar">PolicyBazaar</keyword>.com. 
	 
	However, not all is hunky-dory at the consumers’ end. Insurance, as an investment option is considered to be a tricky business. Most consumers find it hard to trust an insurance company and often have issues while buying an insurance product. 
	 “Currently an insurance buyer has to undergo a lot of paperwork. E-policies and E-claim process can go in a long way to bring them under one umbrella of financial inclusion. This will also bust the mental block that insurance is a complicated process and it is best to stay away from it. A common <keyword id="167905" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="KYC">KYC</keyword>, in fact an electronic KYC has the potential to revolutionize the financial inclusion plan,” added Bansal. 
	 
	Besides, the Government needs to reform the tax policies for insurance products such as pensions and annuities, in order to make it an attractive option among the insurance buyers. 
	 It should be noted that while planning one’s retirement, pensions and annuities are a less preferred option among the many available security instruments. This is so because the current tax doesn’t allow huge returns on the <keyword id="488576" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="annuity">annuity</keyword> offered by the insurance companies. 
	 “One of the important customer needs which drives savings behaviour is retirement planning. This becomes even more important in a country like India because of increasing life expectancy and inadequate social security measures. Insurance industry plays a very important role through <keyword id="6354432" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="pension">pension</keyword> and annuity products,” said Deepak Mittal, managing director and CEO of Edelweiss Tokio Life Insurance Company Limited. 
	Apart from making pensions and annuities attractive options, the government could also relook its tax policies for life insurance product. Life insurance has increasingly become unattractive as the tax benefits offered on these policies are available only in cases where the sum assured to premium ratio is at least 10. 
	 
	“While this provision was made with the intention to increase the cover provided by life insurance companies, it also ends up making the policies unattractive for middle and higher age groups given that there is an exponential rise in the cost of mortality in later years. We look forward to some relaxation in these guidelines either in form of tax benefits linked to the tenure of the policy or lower multiples for higher age customers,” stated Mittal.
