The <keyword id="2079849" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="appraisal-cycle">appraisal cycle</keyword> in the current year will maintain status quo. This year it will happen in July because it is just too much to shift the entire organisational planning." 
 
Gupta said from a books perspective the fiscal year has moved, and this cycle the wage hikes etc will come in when HCL get into the next quarter announcements. 
 
"The effective date for high performers is July 1, and the people who are at the bottom of the performance pack get it a quarter later which is October," Prithvi Shergill, HR head HCL, told ET. 
 
It is appraisal month and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IT+companies&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">IT companies</a> will be doling out increments based on the performances of the employees. Many of them have ditched the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bell+curve+method&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">bell-curve method</a>. 
 
TCS is likely to give a rise between 8% and 12% in fiscal 2017, whereas Infosys will stick to 6-12%. 
 
However, top performers at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infosys&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys</a> can expect 20-25% hike. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=tcs&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">TCS</a> also said it would pay out 100% of its employees' variable pay. 
 
"They have done what we have been doing for some time now, which is differentiation for high performers. It is interesting to see headlines around that because that's the right approach for progressive organisations,” Shergill told ET. 
 
HCL has reported a 5.5% jump in net profit at $285 million which came on back of a 6.5% increase in revenues at $1.6 billion.

Even in 2014, the NDA only led by a very thin margin of five seats — four seats went to AAP and three to the UPA. Punjab has 13 Lok Sabha seats in total. For 2019 Lok Sabha elections, all the seats went for polling together during the seventh and the last phase of elections in the country on May 19, 2019. Over the past few general elections, the BJP has been performing poorly in this state either with no seats or with very few seats to take for the parliament. In 2014 elections, the party did not secure even a single seat from here. In 2009 general elections, the party got just one constituency and in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, BJP got just 3 places from Punjab. In the Amritsar constituency, Hardeep Puri of Congress is fighting the Lok Sabha elections 2019 with AAP’s Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and Hardeep Singh Puri of BJP. From Jalandhar seat, Santokh Singh Chaudhary of Congress has locked horns with AAP's is Jora Singh and SAD’s Charanjit Singh Atwal. SAD is an ally of the BJP. In the Patiala constituency, Preneet Kaur of Congress has contested with Nina Mittal of AAP and Surjit Singh Rakhra of SAD. The choice of candidates by the Congress party in the key constituencies can pose a bigger challenge for AAP and BJP in Punjab.

This study conducted by property consultancy JLL India shows, residential prices in areas of south and central Delhi has suffered a decline of 15-20% in 2013 and remained at those levels in 2014. A correction in prices was also observed in areas like West End, Shanti Niketan, Prithviraj, Aurangzeb Road and Amrita Shergill Marg, but in a lower range of 10-15%, says the report.

"The Delhi NCR market is under stress, which means that valuations remain attractive for end users. This also points to opportunities for distress sales and bargain buys for investors / buyers," says Santhosh Kumar, CEO, operations and international director, JLL India. 
 
Kumar feels sound fundamentals of the emerging locations enabled them to beat the negative trend and saw very good price appreciation. "While Neemrana has massive industrial development along with good connectivity through the NH-8, Sohna promises the next wave of industrial and residential growth in Gurgaon. Delhi's J-zone has the location advantage of South Delhi and the L-zone is in an area adjoining the upcoming Dwarka-Gurgaon Expressway." 
 
High home loan rates, liquidity crunch and lack of developer-friendly reforms have plagued the residential real estate market off-late. Delhi-NCR has been worst affected with an unsold inventory of nearly 154,000 units in 2014. 
 
In terms of months, Gurgaon has unsold inventory of 33 months and Noida of around 38 months.

Yes Bank had doled out a loan of ₹3,750 crore directly to DHFL and another loan worth ₹750 crore to RKW Developers, a subsidiary of DHFL. However, when the real estate company defaulted on its loan, Kapoor did not initiate any action.

 The ED now suspects that his restraint was a result of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/ed-questions-yes-bank-founder-rana-kapoor-for-second-day-expands-raids/articleshow/74530525.cms">kickbacks to the tune of ₹600 crore</a> to Doit Urban Ventures — a dummy corporation owned by Kapoor and two of his daughters. Nearly 80 shell companies set up to receive bribes and buy bungalows Two days into the interrogation Kapoor was arrested for not cooperating with the authorities. Meanwhile, 10 teams of the CBI were involved in its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/yes-bank-scam-cbi-carries-out-searches-at-7-locations-in-mumbai-loc-issued/articleshow/74554915.cms">search operations</a> spread across the south Mumbai neighbourhood. The ED found that Rana Kapoor and his family had more than <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/yes-bank-crisis-probe-agency-says-rana-kapoor-along-with-his-family-owned-78-shell-companies-2194031">78 shell companies </a>set up to receive bribes and invest in properties under the radar. All of these companies were either directly under Kapoor’s control or under the control of his wife and daughters. His wife, Bindu, was the director of at least 42 companies.

 The companies allegedly invested in properties with a net worth of over ₹2,000 crore. An official told PTI that the current market value of those properties could be <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/yes-bank-crisis-probe-agency-says-rana-kapoor-along-with-his-family-owned-78-shell-companies-2194031">well above ₹5,000 crore.</a> His shady overseas properties include two luxury hotels — one in New York worth over $20 million and one in London worth nearly £30 million — two residential apartments in London valued at £15 million apiece, and a yacht. In India, Kapoor owns six bungalows in Delhi’s upscale neighbourhoods, including Jor Bagh, Hauz Khas and Kautilya Marg. Two were bought by a company called Bliss Adobe, which had Bindu as its director. The property on Amrita Shergil Marg was auctioned off by Avantha Realty when Bliss Abode picked it off the market. Coincidentally, Yes Bank’s exposure to Avantha Realty was ₹500 crore. The other house on Sardar Patel Marg was bought by the Kapoor’s shell corporation Bliss Home. ED’s investigation noted that the house was formerly owned by Vijay Mallya. ED also found that Kapoor owns six flats and a parcel of land in Mumbai and its suburbs. Priyanka Gandhi Vadhra and the painting by MF Hussain During the search of his Mumbai residence, the ED seized nearly 50 pieces of art from his home. One of the paintings — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/politics/india/news/congress-raises-question-over-rana-kapoors-links-with-bjp/articleshow/74544228.cms">a portrait of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi by MF Hussain</a> — belonged to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The Congress party says that the deal between Vadra and Kapoor was a transparent transaction of ₹2 crore. The payment was made through cheque and was reflected in income tax returns. However, the ED is still looking into whether the painting was Vadra’s to sell or belonged to the All India Congress Committee (AICC). It’s also looking into whether the provenance certificate — which authenticates the artwork — was signed by Vadra and under what circumstances. Can’t leave the country Kapoor and his family currently can’t leave the country. A look-out notice was also issued in their names on March 12 along with DHFL promoter Kapil Wadhawan and Dheeraj Wadhawan. Roshini, Kapoor’s youngest daughter, was stopped at the CSM International Airport in Mumbai trying to catch a flight to London. Kapoor’s arrest has been extended to March 16 during which he will be in the custody of the ED. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is also loading its guns. It has begun a probe into the Yes Bank affairs but has not elaborated on the nature of the probe. The Income Tax Department is next in line to initiate action against Kapoor and others for tax evasion and possession of alleged undeclared foreign assets. The sector which ruled the hearts of most Indian graduates for no-less-than three decades hired young engineers in 2000 aging 25 and the numbers differs now with the average age of employees working at these firms at 30. 
 
A recent report in the Economic Times stated that the industry’s slower growth rate over the past five years has forced the top Indian software firms to clamp down on hiring fresh graduates and in fact emphasize on appointing experienced executives at positions that require specific new-age, niche skills for technologies such as cloud computing and analytics. The $146-billion (Rs 9.3 lakh crore) IT industry employs a number of 3 million professionals. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Infosys+">Infosys </a>executive vice-president and global head of talent and technology operations, Binod Hampapur Rahgadore has said, "The average age has steadily gone up - it is around 29 right now." 
 
As per the global HR head of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=HCL+">HCL Technologies</a>, Prithvi Shergill, the average employee age has gone up to 31 from five years backs’ 28. Not just this, but even at India's third-largest software exporter <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword>, the average age has inched up consistently. According to Wipro's latest annual report, 61.5% of the company's total workforce is under the age of 30, compared with 66% for the financial year ended March 2011. 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=TCS">Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)</a>, however, did not respond to an email query seeking comment on the matter. 
 "Work is becoming more complex. The amount of time that people see their careers for is reflective of the growth rates of the industry as well," said Shergill, chief human resources officer at <keyword id="30331" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Technologies">HCL Technologies</keyword>. "So people tend to understand the value of staying in the organization longer, so the average age also increases," he further added. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Nasscom">Nasscom</a>, in a separate survey has estimated that software exports might grow by 12-14% in FY2016, which, a decade ago was more than double of what it is now. 
 However, with growth rates slowing down and top outsourcing customers asking for fewer staff on each project, companies like <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> and TCS have been forced to chase non-linear growth and cut back on hiring of recent graduates. This has also resulted in a huge imbalance in terms of demand and supply. 
 India currently produces more engineering graduates annually than the US and China combined. According to AICTE and <keyword id="6372077" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nasscom">Nasscom</keyword> figures, the annual intake of engineering colleges across the country has gone up by at least two to three times over the past six years. India now produces at least 1.5 million engineering graduates annually --more than the 1.2 million produced by US and China combined annually. Compared to that, India's IT industry currently hires about 150,000 employees annually. 
 
The increase in average age also points to another significant shift -- the number of freshers joining startups has also increased over the past five years. 
 
"The balance has also shifted because a large number of young engineering graduates prefer to join startups as opposed to large IT services firms," said the Nasscom executive requesting anonymity. "Also, with bigger companies now pushing for non-linear growth and looking for more experienced people, the numbers have to go up. And slower growth rates have also forced them to cut back on hiring new-comers." 
 
Part of it is linked also to the fact that attrition rates of 19-20 per cent have become the new normal at India's top five software services firms. "When the attrition is high, you have to backfill it from outside. So that's when the average age goes up," Rangadore said.

	“Residential property prices in several areas of Delhi having declined by 10-20% in 2013 and then stabilized in 2014. Fence-sitters are watching the market movements to determine if prices will slide further,” said Santhosh Kumar, international director at JLL India. 
	 
	He added, “Residential prices in established locations of South and Central Delhi such as Vasant Vihar, Defence Colony, Jor Bagh and Golf Links saw a decline of 15-20% in 2013 and remained at those levels in 2014. A correction in prices was also observed in areas like Westend, Shantiniketan, Prithviraj, Aurangzeb Road and Amrita Shergill Marg, but in a lower range of 10-15%.” 
	 However, property prices in <keyword id="6361586" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gurgaon">Gurgaon</keyword> and <keyword id="18858" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Noida">Noida</keyword> remained stable last year. According to market players, the supply in this market has been more than the demand, which has resulted in excess inventory. “A bad economy made property buyers cautious in their purchases. The consumer sentiment was down coupled with high interest rates. All tthis resulted in a sluggish demand,” said Sunil Singh, a property broker in the region. In order to boost the demands, developers have been doling out heavy discounts on their projects. 
	 
	 Interestingly, the prices in areas such as Neemrana, Sohna and Delhi’s J and L zones recorded an increase of 15% to 35% last year. This is in contrary to the negative market dynamics and the stagnant property prices in Delhi and NCR. “The only exception to the appreciation observed in these locations was Yamuna Expressway, which remained stable. However, low land prices and development potential continue to help Yamuna Expressway remain an attractive destination for investors” added Kumar.

	South and Central Delhi 
	 
	According to Kumar, if you are interested in buying an apartment in South and Central Delhi, then 2015 is a great time to do so. “The next six months are likely to witness an increase in developers’ pain; persistent negotiation can result in excellent deals,” said Kumar. 
	 
	Gurgaon and Noida 
	 According to market players, <keyword id="20486" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Golf-course">Golf course</keyword> road in Gurgaon is the next upcoming area apart from Sohna Road and Dwarka Expressway. However, in Noida, Kumar has advised property investors and home buyers to invest in projects in Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Noida City, that are being built by developers with proven credibility. 
	 
	Delhi J and L zone

Skin <keyword id="6355291" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cancer">cancer</keyword> is now nearly as prevalent as all other cancers put together, with more than 200,000 basal cell skin cancers treated with surgery a year. New research has found that, over the past decade, there has been an 80 percent rise in cases of the skin cancer which are treated with surgery alone. But doctors who carried out the study warn that official government skin cancer figures seriously underestimate the true levels. With costs of treating each case of this form of skin cancer estimated at around £1,000, the financial burden to the NHS could be more than £200m a year.
"Our study shows that the number of basal cell carcinomas (BCC) in the UK is approximately twice that indicated by government statistics," said doctors from Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Eastern Cancer Registration Centre, Cambridge, who carried out the study. "The effects on population health and on costs to the health services of BCC in the UK should be recognised. Resources to prevent, diagnose and manage the disease should be prioritised to help control BCC, which now appears to be the commonest malignant disease in the UK."
They added: "Cancer registries acknowledge that data collection for BCC is imperfect, and consequently data on BCC are excluded from national statistics. Unfortunately, this means that the commonest cancer in the UK is often overlooked by politicians, the public and the media."
Catherine Thomson, of Cancer Research UK, said: "Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer and we need to find better ways of recording the number of people diagnosed with it. This means they are not routinely reported and the true workload and treatment burden on the NHS is not widely understood. The good news is that generally it's one of the easiest forms of cancer to treat and it is rarely fatal."
BCC, which accounts for around 75 percent of all skin cancers, develops in the outermost layer of the skin, the epidermis, and it is linked to overexposure to ultraviolet light. Surgery is the main treatment and involves removing the cancerous tumour and some of the surrounding skin. Treatment for BCC is completely successful in approximately 90 per cent of cases, and unlike melanoma skin cancer, which is linked to around 2,000 deaths a year, it is rarely fatal.
However, projected government figures obtained by The Independent on Sunday show that melanoma cases are also expected to rise dramatically. The Department of Health strategy paper, which outlines a "vision" of how skin cancer in the UK might develop by 2015, reveals that medical advisers working in 2010 anticipated a significant increase in cases. "If current trends continue, it is anticipated that there will be around 15,500 cases of melanoma diagnosed per year within the next 15 years," it warns. Non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC) of which BCC are a type, were also projected to increase by the paper, which said: "Similarly, the incidence of NMSC is set to increase over the next five years due to factors including an ageing population and a general increase in UV radiation exposure of the skin through altered behaviour."
According to the new study, cancer registries have difficulty in collecting and dealing with data on the incidence of BCC because of the sheer volume of work and the complexity of accurately identifying cases. The main aim of the research was to estimate the number of cases of BCC requiring surgical treatment in the UK each year.
This is corroborated by the government paper from 2010, which said: "Progress in improving national skin cancer registration has been slow. Better data (including data on co-morbidity, staging and performance status) is essential for informed cancer service planning, evaluation of prevention strategies and improved management of patients"
The team from East Anglia used data from the eastern registry to estimate the incidence of skin cancer and how it has changed over a decade. Results show that over the 11-year study, the number of patients with surgically treated BCC increased by 81 per cent. The team then extrapolated the findings to the UK population to estimate that around 200,000 patients had 247,000 cases of BCC treated surgically. The researchers say these may be underestimates because BCC is treated with other therapies too, including cryotherapy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. That compares with around 114,000 non-melanoma skin cancers which are registered annually in England and Wales.
In all, around 300,000 cancers a year, excluding non-melanoma skin cancers, are registered in the UK, which means, they say, that BCC is nearly as common as all other cancers combined.
"We found a far higher incidence of BCC in our analysis than is stated by the cancer registries, implying that BCC is far more common than previously thought.
"BCC occurs predominantly on sun-exposed areas of elderly people with lighter skin. Elderly people with paler skin should be strongly encouraged to avoid excess exposure to UV. Cancer registries should be supported to record more accurately the incidence of BCC."
Dr Bav Shergill, consultant dermatologist at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "This is an interesting study that suggests the incidence of skin cancer may be substantially higher than was thought. As dermatologists, we are seeing more cases of skin cancer, especially BCC. It is a challenge because the numbers of cases are projected to keep on increasing. It is thought that this is due to a number of factors, including people living longer, and greater exposure to the sun through outdoor hobbies, travel and package holidays, and so on."
<h3>Degrees of danger</h3>
Three types of skin cancer are prevalent.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form. It is slow growing and almost never spreads to other areas of the body. If treated in the early stages of growth it is usually completely curable.
Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common form in the UK, making up one in five diagnosed skin cancers. It is treatable in the early stages through surgery.
Malignant melanoma is a malignant tumour and is usually fast growing. Approximately 11,000 people will be diagnosed with this type annually. It must be treated in the early stages. Tumours can require extensive surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy.
