Hence, Hampshire will become the first county side to be owned by an overseas entity, as the GMR Group will now have control over 51 per cent of the team's shares. "The Delhi part-owners are understood to have beaten a second bid from rival Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants with an offer which values Hampshire at £120 million, although that price includes the club's debts of around £60 million," the Telegraph reported. Additionally, the GMR Group will also take control of the Utilita Bowl (cricket stadium at Hampshire), the Hilton hotel and a golf course at the same venue. Apart from being the co-owners of the Capitals, the GMR Group also has equal stakes in Dubai Capitals, the ILT20 side in the UAE, and Seattle Orcas, the Major League Cricket outfit in the USA. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Hampshire club officials and the new owners are expected to make an official announcement soon about the deal. Besides the significant investment, the take over could also open up the possibility of Hampshire gaining access to some of Delhi Capitals' young players for domestic tournaments such as the Hundred. However, at present, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not permit active Indian cricketers to play in overseas tournaments. In another significant development, Yorkshire, another English county side, has reopened their talks with Rajasthan Royals for a possible takeover of the Headingley based club. However, this would require a consent from 6000 Yorkshire members through a ballot. Delhi Capitals owners agree to buy major share in Hampshire takeover

<ul><li>The Indian PC market recorded its second-best quarter with a shipment of 4.49 million devices in Q3 2024.</li><li>The growth in part is due to the online festival sales by e-commerce giants and retailers.</li><li>HP continues to lead the Indian PC market with a share of over 29%.</li></ul> The Indian personal computer or PC market has recorded its second highest-ever shipments at 4.49 million devices in Q3 2024, recording a 0.1% growth year-on-year. According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), the growth in sales was recorded due to online festival sales which began early this year. “The e-tail sales, which typically start around the second week of October, began in late September, leading to a surge in PC shipments,” said Bharath Shenoy, Research Manager, IDC India &amp; South Asia. In Q3 2024, desktops recorded an 8.1% year-on-year decline, notebooks recorded a 2.8% year-on-year growth and workstations recorded a 2.4% year-on-year growth. Premium notebooks priced above $1,000 recorded a 7.6% year-on-year growth. “Brands capitalized on e-tail sales by offering steep discounts, cashback, and bundled accessories. Many of them also matched similar pricing in their brand stores and offline channels like Larger Format Retail stores (LFRs), leading to the second biggest consumer quarter in history,” Shenoy added. Acer has recorded good growth, with its market share rising from 11.6% in Q3 2023 to 14.6% in Q3 2024. Asus on the other hand reported a decline from 12.5% in Q3 2023 to 9.7% in Q3 2024. “The Commercial PC Market in India is on the recovery path as enterprises have slowly started refreshing their IT devices. India’s PC market reaches new high with 4.49 million shipments in Q3 2024

Singapore Airlines will make an additional investment of Rs 3,194.5 crore in Tata Group-owned Air India post-merger of Vistara in November. The merger, announced on November 29, 2022, and set to be completed on November 11, 2024, will result in Singapore Airlines having a 25.1% stake in the enlarged Air India. Full-service carrier Vistara, which started flying on January 9, 2015, is a joint venture between Tatas and Singapore Airlines, where the latter holds a 49% shareholding. Vistara's last flight will take off tomorrow i.e. November 11, 2024. Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group on Friday said its consideration for the merger comprises the 49% interest in Vistara and Rs 20,585 million (Rs 2,058.5 crore) in cash in exchange for a 25.1% equity interest in the enlarged Air India. Post-merger, SIA expects to recognize a non-cash accounting gain of around 1.1 billion Singapore dollars and also start equity accounting for its share of Air India's financial results. According to a release on Friday, the merger includes an agreement for SIA to contribute its share of any funding previously provided by Tata prior to the completion of the merger, together with relevant funding costs up to Rs 5,020 crore that would allow it to maintain a 25.1% stake in Air India. "SIA's additional capital injection is expected to be Rs 31,945 million (equivalent to SGD 498 million), based on Tata's funding to Air India to date. This will occur after the completion of the merger and within November 2024 through subscription to new Air India shares. "Future capital injections will be considered based on Air India's requirements and available funding options," according to the release issued while announcing the airline's financial performance for the six months ended September 2024. The merger of Vistara with Air India will mark a major consolidation in the fast-growing Indian aviation space. SIA said the merged entity will have a significant presence across all key Indian air travel segments, including domestic, international, full-service, and low-cost operations. "This will strengthen SIA's multi-hub strategy, allowing it to continue participating directly in India's large and fast-growing aviation market," it added. Recently, Air India and SIA agreed to significantly expand their codeshare agreement, adding 11 Indian cities and another 40 international destinations to their network.

The company is trying to figure out how it will recoup this massive investment.Also in the first quarter, Microsoft Cloud revenue rose 22% from a year earlier to $38.9 billion. Though its investors will have to wait much longer before they see any returns.Wood's firm Ark Invest debuted a new closed-end interval fund in 2022, allowing investors to throw as little as $500 into a vehicle that invests in private startups. Investors can buy and sell shares in the fund just as they do with stocks, with some restrictions."Our goal here is to provide the best venture portfolio in the world to everyone in the world, not just to the rich and the famous," said Brett Winton, who works closely with Wood as chief futurist at Ark Invest and is an architect of the firm's venture capital strategy.The fund, Ark Venture Fund, has now gathered close to $70 million in assets, some distance from venture giants like Sequoia and Andreessen Horowitz, or even Ark's other funds. ARKK, Wood's most famous fund, has $5.8 billion in assets, down from a peak of $50 billion.Despite its small size, the fund has clinched deals to invest in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-bets-big-on-humanoid-robots-with-figure-ai-2024-2">Figure</a>, a Jeff Bezos-backed startup developing humanoid robots, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-xai-hiring-spree-ai-tutors-2024-10">xAI</a>, an artificial-intelligence firm founded by Elon Musk, and OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT.<div type="image" title="Elon Musk SpaceX" height="2034" width="2712" msid="115254561" hostid="261" sizebytes="675642"></div>It raises the question of why aging startups SpaceX, Epic Games, and Databricks, which have raised billions in funding, bother to include Ark in new rounds. SpaceX is Ark Venture Fund's largest holding, accounting for 13% of the fund's total assets, worth around $9 million.Winton said it's a subject he's frequently addressed in early meetings with founders.First, Ark produces reams of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ark-funds.com/articles">original research</a> on areas of investment. Winton said this research helps the firm win over teams because it demonstrates a grasp of their breakthrough technologies. "It means we can engage in really constructive conversations with them about their strategy," Winton said.Second, because Ark invests in both the private and public markets, it offers relationships with potential customers across the size spectrum of enterprises.Lastly, unlike a traditional venture fund, which has a fixed lifespan to invest the capital and return the profits to the fund's investors, Ark set up its venture fund to continue indefinitely, allowing investors to enter and exit the fund on a periodic basis.This provides flexibility to hold shares of companies after they go public, which can be particularly attractive for founders who are looking for investors with a long-term outlook and a higher tolerance for market volatility.In October, Ark invested at least $250 million into OpenAI's latest round, which pushed the AI startup's valuation to $157 billion.Most of that investment came from a related private venture fund that's only for high-net-worth investors. OpenAI makes up just 5% of the Ark Venture Fund's portfolio, which means it has less than $4 million invested."We would prefer to be able to write larger checks out of the venture fund than we currently can," Winton said.For that to happen, the fund will need to attract more investors.Though the fund is up 36% since its inception date, it's down 3% year to date, according to the website. The fee, 2.75%, is high relative to other interval funds, according to Morningstar, but it doesn't take carried interest or a share of profits.Winton said the fund could accrue assets into the billions of dollars; on a follow-up call, he walked back his comment, saying it's hard to know how big the fund could get."If that happens, then that'll actually become the story of Ark," he said. "Ark kind of changed venture capital."

<ul class="summary-list"><li>VCs are lobbing cash at the presidential election and key congressional races, FEC data shows.</li><li>While most VCs favored Democrats, a16z's crypto giving dwarfed all other donations.</li></ul>America is bitterly divided over politics, and the tech industry — once portrayed as a liberal bastion — is <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/election-a-distraction-silicon-valley-wants-to-be-over-2024-8">no different.</a> Among the sector's investor class, these disputes typically play out behind closed doors, with checkbooks rather than <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/silicon-valley-political-divide-twitter-elon-musk-kamala-harris-2024-8">angry social media posts</a>.This election cycle, investors at the top venture capital firms have plowed tens of millions of dollars into the election, both backing their favored political candidates and just cannily promoting commercial interests.Business Insider trawled political donation data released by the Federal Elections Commission to see how employees at VC firms have donated by candidates and political entities as the hotly contested race enters its final phase.The data is limited, focusing only on a subjective grouping of 10 high-profile firms, and cutting off at varying points over the summer. More recent FEC donor data will be released in the days and weeks ahead of the November 5 general election, often the most turbulent time in any cycle.The sheer volume of donations captured in the FEC filings underscores the significance of the tech constituency in the political arena, how the Silicon Valley elite has embraced politics of late, and just how flooded by money modern American politics has become.<h3 id="dd94bff4-8a0b-4fe4-8f40-59db1deb3131">The big spenders</h3>For venture capitalists, talking politics can invite scrutiny — or worse, turn off founders seeking funds for what might be the next big thing. It's part of the reason why many firms won't take positions on political issues or push a candidate on their employees.While that hasn't stopped individual investors from voting with their dollars, many VC firms are quick to point out that donations do not represent the organization's political stance.Except when they do.Andreessen Horowitz, or a16z, is the sole firm in our dataset to make political contributions directly. In this election cycle, it contributed $47 million to groups working to elect blockchain-friendly candidates, including Fairshake, a titanic crypto-industry backed super PAC. The firm is all-in on crypto, investing in Solana and Yuga Labs, and launched a $4.5 billion investment fund focused on this area in 2022.While the names of the firm's founders, Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, also appear on filings for donations to these groups, a16z says on its <a target="_blank" href="https://a16zcrypto.com/posts/article/contributing-to-fairshake-pac/">website</a> that these contributions come from the firm, not the founders personally. Though the distinction a16z draws between itself and its founders might be slightly artificial, given Andreessen and Horowitz created, own, and named the firm after themselves.For all the brouhaha about Andreessen and Horowitz putting <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-vcs-in-silicon-valley-2024-7">millions of dollars</a> behind Trump's latest bid for the White House and Horowitz hedging his bets with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/read-ben-horowitzs-email-a16z-saying-plans-donate-kamala-harris-2024-10">a planned donation to Harris</a>, the data shows the two are a rare breed among venture investors: relatively bipartisan donors.Horowitz sent roughly 59% of his personal political contributions to Republicans and a little under 40% to Democrats, while Andreessen more strongly favored Republicans this election cycle, with 64% of his donations.In the time period covered by the data, a16z even eclipsed Greylock, where outgoing partner and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/silicon-valley-billionaires-investors-kamala-harris-mark-cuban-reid-hoffman-2024-8">Democrat megadonor</a> Reid Hoffman has personally pumped nearly $30 million in recorded donations into the presidential election and key congressional races.Investors at Founders Fund, which has backed SpaceX and Palantir, are nearly 100% Republican in donations, though the bulk of contributions came from Keith Rabois, who left the firm in January to rejoin Khosla Ventures. Employees of venerable firm Kleiner Perkins are the opposite, giving almost entirely to Democratic causes, as is the case for Y Combinator, the colossal startup accelerator.Like Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital is largely bipartisan. Unlike a16z, its biggest donors are largely split on party lines. Michael Moritz, who left the firm midway through last year and continues to serve as an advisor to Sequoia Heritage, its wealth management group, gives to Democrats, while Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire donates to Republicans.<h3 id="3ae3c5f1-4f98-4417-8e68-d3e367656034">Number-crunching</h3>When a candidate's campaign or other political entity receives political donations, they must report it either quarterly or monthly to the FEC, along with information about the donors, including the donor's employer. The federal agency processes these filings, before releasing them in a searchable format on its website.The data analyzed for this story cuts off on August 31 for entities that report donations on a monthly basis (including presidential campaigns, national party committees, and some PACs), while the cut-off for entities that report quarterly (including Congressional committees and some PACs) is June 30. (The filing deadline for Q3 data for quarterly filing entities was October 15, but this data isn't yet readily available in full online.)Business Insider selected 10 venture capital firms to focus on, taking into account fund size and cultural and industry significance. The list encompasses employees ranging from general partners and firm founders to marketers and executive assistants.The findings should not be interpreted as an exhaustive accounting of all venture capital investors' donations to date, but as a comparative analysis of how some of the industry's most significant players have approached political giving over the summer as the election heated up.Business Insider divided the recipients into three categories: Democrat-aligned, Republican-aligned, and unaffiliated — a grouping that includes both bipartisan groups like Fairshake and independents like West Virginia senator Joe Manchin, as well as organizations like The Lincoln Project, run by self-described Republicans but in practice supporting Democratic causes.<h3 id="383b71f4-35bb-4d3d-9fd8-a1daae48b9df">Hoffman vs. Horowitz</h3>Hoffman, the top individual donor, has developed a reputation as tech's Democratic Party standard-bearer. In this election cycle, records show his efforts include $2 million to help fund an <a target="_blank" href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/saradorn/2024/01/31/billionaire-reid-hoffman-spent-2-million-on-bidens-new-hampshire-write-in-campaign-fec-records-show/">unusual write-in effort</a> for President Joe Biden in New Hampshire, and millions to joint fundraising committees for Harris after Biden dropped out. Hoffman also <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/05/us/politics/nikki-haley-reid-hoffman-donation.html">gave $250,000</a> to a super PAC supporting Nikki Haley, the last major candidate to challenge Trump for the Republican nomination.Most donors more closely resemble Hoffman than Horowitz: clearly partisan, with an overwhelming majority of their donations going to support one party.Vinod Khosla of Khosla Ventures is another of the biggest donors on the Democratic side of the aisle, with more than $3 million in recorded donations during the time period to recipients including the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Harris' presidential campaign. Khosla's giving puts him just above John Doerr, chairman of Kleiner Perkins and architect of cleantech investing, though he hasn't managed funds for the firm in a decade.Sequoia Capital's Doug Leone is one of VC's most prolific GOP-aligned political donors, giving his almost $3.8 million to the National Republican Committee and other causes.The vehicle of choice for many of these donations is via super PACs, a controversial political fundraising tool that can raise unlimited funds — <a target="_blank" href="https://www.fec.gov/help-candidates-and-committees/candidate-taking-receipts/contribution-limits/">bypassing FEC limits on donations</a> to candidates and other committees — but cannot directly coordinate with candidates. Asides from Fairshake, some of the biggest super PACs out there favored by VC investors include Future Forward PAC, a tech billionaire-linked Democrat-supporting group, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-trump-america-super-pac-2024-10">America PAC, a right-wing entity founded by Elon Musk</a>.Investors also gave to several joint fundraising committees, which take money for multiple candidates or organizations. They, too, became favored over the years because a joint fundraising committee allows candidates to rake in cash while sharing the costs of fundraising — think website hosting fees, high-end hotels, and catering for splashy Hamptons fundraisers. The most well-loved committees in our dataset were the Harris Victory Fund and Harris Action Fund, the joint fundraising efforts between the Harris campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and state Democratic committees.Reached for comment by Business Insider, none of the named investment firms agreed to make employees available for interviews about their political giving. "So, a tax-loss-harvesting type of trading will take place and then you are reducing your capital gains taxes."Another way to lock in profits on securities is by creating collars, which means buying a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/investing/option-chain#:~:text=An%20option%20is%20a%20contract,its%20own%20type%20of%20security.">put option and selling a call option</a> against the underlying asset. It hedges the share price because the put creates a floor, allowing the buyer to keep the stock but offload it if it falls below the agreed-upon price, which is the strike. But buying that put will cost a premium. Therefore, calls are sold to offset the cost, giving another buyer the right to purchase the stock if it rises. The downside is that it caps any upside potential above the strike."There are executives we work with, for whatever restriction, they cannot sell, or they have huge capital gains and they don't want to take a big tax hit," Lapsiwala said. This strategy helps them plan the timing of when they want to realize the gains."For those who need liquidity, once the stock is hedged, they can borrow up to 50% against its value on margin, Lapsiwala noted. This strategy could have a double tax benefit: One, the investor isn't realizing a capital gain. Two, if the borrowed amount is used for another investment and there is investment income, the cost of borrowing is treated as investment interest. It can be used to reduce the overall taxable income.Some investors will borrow against their stocks without hedging. This is common for short-term liquidity needs, like bridge financing to buy a property while waiting to sell another, Lapsiwala noted. The risk here is if the stock drops in value in the interim, you get a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/investing/margin-call#:~:text=A%20margin%20call%20occurs%20when%20the%20value%20of%20the%20equity,off%20some%20of%20the%20investments.">margin call</a> and must come up with the capital to cover it.As for investors who have philanthropic goals, charitable giving is tax deductible. Still, instead of giving cash that's already taxed, some of Lapsiwala's wealthy clients give their appreciated securities to a 501(c) charitable organization. This grants them a tax deduction while skipping out on capital gains tax.Another way of giving to charity is by donating appreciated assets to a donor-advised fund (DAF). In turn, the investor get a tax deduction in the year it was gifted, but they don't have to give the full amount to the charitable organization in that calendar year."This is a strategy when you have high taxable income, and you want to reduce your taxes but aren't sure that you want to give charitable grants of a high amount in a year," Lapsiwala said. "So what we typically do is, let's say clients are giving $100,000 a year, we will say, 'let's fund that by a million dollars' and they can get that million dollar deduction now, but over the next 10 years, give $100,000 annually from that account."Clients who want to give to charity while continuing to benefit from gains on their principal can opt for a charitable remainder trust (CRT). It allows them to transfer cash, property, or assets to an irrevocable trust that pays an income in the form of an annuity or a percent of the trust's assets for a term or until their death, upon which it goes to the selected charities.John Pantekidis, managing partner at TwinFocus, says CRTs are a win-win for the charity and donor. The latter gets a tax deduction up front and an annuity while helping a charity.Pantekidis, whose average client is worth close to $200 million, says this setup is suggested for clients with highly appreciated assets who want an income from it but are also charitably inclined.But perhaps the tax avoidance strategy that has been an absolute home run for high-net-worth clients, according to Pantekidis, is investing in qualified opportunity zones. These are economically distressed areas that require long-term investments in real estate and businesses.If you have a million dollars of capital gains and if you invest it in a qualified opportunity zone, you get to defer that through 2026, Pantekidis noted. Any appreciation on that investment escapes tax permanently; that's an avoidance, he said. Furthermore, an investor can depreciate the property for further tax deductions without depreciation recapture."So not only do you avoid tax on the gain, to the extent you get depreciation you can avoid tax on the initial gain. It's become an absolute home run for ultra-high-net-worth clients who have capital gains. Even some of our hedge fund managers who get compensation through carried interests of capital gains can defer those capital gains and even avoid them."However, the investment must be held for five to seven years to defer a portion of those gains and at least 10 years for the new gains to be fully tax-free.Finally, those with an appreciated property who can identify a similar property to swap it with can use 1031 Exchanges. It allows the client to defer the capital gains. If they die with the property, they can get a step-up in basis which permanently removes any tax originally deferred by the exchange, Pantekidis said.

The following has been edited for length and clarity.I'm an investor at Calibrate Ventures, an early-stage deep-tech <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/venture-capital-us-election-data-contributions-2024-10">venture capital</a> firm.The path that led me here was somewhat unconventional. My educational background is in astrophysics, but I've also dabbled in entrepreneurship and worked in consulting.I eventually got my first <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/venture-capital-jobs-vc-recruiter-tips-interview-2024-11">VC job</a> when I was 23 years old.Though it took me about a year and a half to land my first VC role after finishing college, I'm still on the younger end of professionals in my industry. My advice for other people hoping to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-get-job-venture-capital-no-finance-career-2024-10">get into VC</a> is to leverage your network and stay up to date on the industry.<h2 id="45740239-990a-40e5-995f-6a177e376ce5">I realized academia wasn't for me and eventually pivoted to entrepreneurship</h2>During my teen years, I was fascinated with astrophysics. In 2016, I started my undergrad at Brown University, thinking I would go on to get my Ph.D. and become a scientist.However, I realized the academic path wasn't for me when I spent my freshman year summer working with a theoretical research group and trying to code physics formulas. It helped me realize I'm more drawn to roles where I can work directly with people and see tangible results.During my senior year of college, I was interested in entrepreneurship. A friend and I had talked about <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-start-and-grow-a-business-founders-advice-2023-1">starting a company</a> one day. We brought in a third friend and did just that in our final year.We launched a mobile app that we spent the year developing. I got us into an accelerator and raised some grant capital. In the fall, we talked to a couple of VCs and even pitched <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-aragon-ai-founder-chose-startup-accelerator-neo-over-ycombinator">Y Combinator</a>. It wasn't a very successful venture, but it was a good learning opportunity.<h2 id="f17d28cb-e025-4dde-a7c0-b13aa110d2e2">I secured my first VC job with the help of recruiters</h2>I started working at EY-Parthenon in September 2020, after I'd graduated, as an associate consultant, assisting <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/investing/private-equity-investment">private equity</a> firms in acquiring software and tech companies. This experience provided a great foundation for thinking more about technical due diligence, tech architecture, and strategy, but moving into investing and venture capital felt like the most exciting path.While I was in that role, recruiters reached out to me. I was surprised at first, but I was excited to make the leap. My background in physics, combined with my finance experience at EY-Parthenon and two summer internships at Goldman, gave me a unique blend of technical and financial expertise that helped propel my career.I worked with recruiters to get my first VC position at a firm called MTech Capital in December 2021. I stayed there for two years, but I still had a passion for physics and aerospace I couldn't explore at the firm, which invested in fintech, insurtech, and healthtech. I spoke about this with people in my network in the Los Angeles area, and I was referred to my current role, which I started in January.I'm now an investor at <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.calibratevc.com/">Calibrate Ventures</a> focusing on deep-tech. A typical day includes taking a few pitches, checking with the team on our investment committee, and also working on developing my own role as a thought leader.Since I am early in my career, I am always looking to learn about every part of the business, so I ask a lot of questions and listen to my team, founders and mentors. I'm like a sponge.I'm on the younger end of the professionals in my industry, but after three years I don't think I'm the youngest anymore.I feel fortunate that the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/most-important-venture-capitalists-investors-in-los-angeles-2023-1">LA venture community</a> is vibrant and supportive. There are many young investors and a growing number of women in the field. I even recently moderated a panel at LA Tech Week and also launched a deep tech brunch series.Additionally, getting involved in the community and being part of different professional groups, such as Synergist Network, which is for <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/these-are-the-best-female-early-stage-investors-2024-9">women in investing</a>, is helpful in creating a sense of community and support.Even though I'm younger in the industry, I've never felt belittled — everyone has always been very respectful.<h2 id="2dc982de-9e21-4df2-91a8-35047a1c40f4">People who want a career in VC should stay up-to-date on the industry and leverage their network</h2>For those interested in a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/landed-dream-job-vc-after-offering-set-up-payroll-free-2024-10">career in VC</a>, I think the best thing you can do is stay as up-to-date on the industry as possible — whether it's through podcasts, newsletters, books, or social media.I spend a lot of my time now reading and keeping up with scientists on social media to stay ahead of rapidly emerging technologies.Even before I was in my current role, I took time to learn more about the industries I was interested in. For instance, while I was primarily focused on fintech in my first VC role, I still sought out deep tech exposure and attended a Space Investor Summit in LA, which allowed me to connect with satellite insurance companies leveraging space observation data.I also recommend leveraging your network — even if it's somebody you went to school with a couple of years ago, ask them if they have anyone they can introduce you to and just pick people's brains by asking questions about their career.If you want to be in this kind of industry, let people know what kinds of opportunities you're looking for. That way, people can let you know if they see a job posting that would be a fit for you. Having mentors through your network can also be helpful for identifying if a career path or role is right for you.I'm committed to staying in VC for the rest of my career.
