Remember Mother India? Yes, the same 1957 movie which popular lyricist Javed Akhtar says is the origin of every <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> movie to have come after it. The movie had a Holi song, called Holi Aayi Re Kanhai, in which the whole village beats Birju (Sunil Dutt) black and blue because he allegedly touches a lehenga-choli clad village girl and forcibly plays Holi with her. Turns out, Birju was not even at fault because it was the girl who had been teasing him all along. 
 
Cut to 2013, the year Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in which Naina (Deepika Padukone), sporting hot pants, is seen sipping bhanag, singing a song full of double meaning lyrics, with steps suggesting an alleged ‘bhabhi’ losing it over the jeans-clad man. Don’t even get us started on the steps they use to portray this bhabhi, watch it carefully for yourself the next time you enjoy the video. 
 
That’s how the portrayal of Holi has changed in Bollywood in the past 60 years, and we can’t blame the makers, because cinema is a mirror to the soul, and if that’s how the audience has matured in all these years, it doesn’t make any sense to keep following the same track of ‘coy’ girls and ‘high’ boys. 
 
Another thing that has changed in Bollywood is the way Holi has been celebrated by our actors in their real lives. Here is a brief look at Bollywood stars enjoying Holi in their personal lives.

Mumbai, Apr 19 () It is important to stay united and have faith in each other to fight the coronavirus pandemic, veteran lyricist-screenwriter Javed Akhtar said on Sunday, expressing concerns over the attack on healthcare workers and cases of communal tension in the country.In a video shared by Akhtar's wife, veteran actor Shabana Azmi on Twitter, the writer urged people to stand together in this time of crisis."The country is undergoing a crisis at this point of time. To fight this crisis called coronavirus, it is important for us to be united. If we will keep suspecting each other or won't understand each other's intentions, there will be no unity, then how will we fight it?"You must salute these doctors who are endangering their lives to test you. Unless you get tested, you will not know whether you have the disease or not. You can be treated only after that. It's a matter of stupidity that, I've heard, people are pelting stones on those doctors. This should not be done," Akhtar said in the 2 minute-long clip.The 75-year-old lyricist also said that targeting a particular community defeats the goal of unity."I also hear that shops of a particular community are being shut, 'thelas' are being overturned or people are hit so that they can flee. This is not how unity works. We will have to believe each other. We all are citizens of this country," he said.Akhtar appealed to the Muslim community to offer prayers from home in the holy month of Ramzan, which will begin from April 24 or April 25."I request all the Muslim brothers that now that Ramzan is coming, please say your prayers but make sure that this doesn't cause problems to anyone else. The prayers that you do in the mosque, you can do that at home. According to you, the house, the ground, this all has been made by Him. Then you can do your prayers anywhere," he said."Ensure that your speech, slogans and deeds don't create any suspicion in the minds of others. And to all the other citizens of the country, I'd say please have faith in each other, practice unity, don't resort to hatred. One such tradition, off late, has stemmed from the humble nature of megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Whenever Big B finds a performance appealing, he writes a letter to the actor and sends him or her bouquets. 
 
Getting appreciation from none other than someone who is an institution of acting in himself is surely something to be proud of, which is why the whole young brigade of Bollywood secretly aspires to get this letter from Mr. Bachchan. 
 While in the past we have seen <keyword id="598" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deepika-Padukone">Deepika Padukone</keyword>, <keyword id="106133" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ranveer-Singh">Ranveer Singh</keyword>, <keyword id="6354535" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ayushmann-Khurrana">Ayushmann Khurrana</keyword> and <keyword id="6363098" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Richa-Chadha">Richa Chadha</keyword> getting such letters, it was the turn of Kangna Ranaut, who is busy collecting rave reviews for her performance as both Tanu and Datto in the recent release <keyword id="2600630" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tanu-Weds-Manu-Returns">Tanu Weds Manu Returns</keyword>. 
 
What makes her even happier is that this is not the first time that Kangna has received this appreciation letter from Mr. Bachchan. She had got one for the 2014 movie Queen as well, in which her performance also earned her a National Award. 
 
In a candid chat with the Times of India, the actress shared her delight of getting not one but two letters and bouquets this time, for playing both Tanu and Datto. Below is an excerpt from the interview: "Mr Bachchan sent me a letter for Queen too, but that was written in English and that too, the level of English that he himself speaks, which is high end. This time, he has written a poem and that too in Hindi, so I could read it out as is to my parents as they understand only Hindi. I felt like his two letters were my two medals. I am going to frame these and keep them for life as my memory. For my parents who are not artistes and don't understand performance, this is their proof that I have performed. Mr Bachchan has written about the minutest of details of my performance which makes it so fulfilling for an artiste, coming from a legend like him. This time he has sent me not just one, but two letters and bouquets, one for Tanu and the other for Datto. He wrote, 'It happens very rarely that our eyes fill up watching a performance. You made me cry'. He said for Datto, 'For the girl who is Tanu's lookalike called Datto, I don't know her but please extend my warm wishes to her.' What broke me down reading his letters was when he wrote, 'Main apne aap ko bhagyashali samajhta hoon, ki main uss udyog se juda hoon, jisme Kangana basti hai' (I feel fortunate to be a part of an industry in which Kangana is a part). Being an outsider, I was ridiculed for the longest time with people openly making fun of me. But the flowers Mr Bachchan sent have not just filled up my room, they have left me overwhelmed." 
 
Well, all we can say is that the other actors from the young brigade need to pull up their socks if they want to have this appreciation letter from Mr. Bachchan, who is an idol for many.
