Yet another <keyword id="608402" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="data-breach">data breach</keyword> has hit Indian businesses, <keyword id="5299326" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="seqrite-cyber-intelligence-labs">Seqrite Cyber Intelligence Labs</keyword> and seQtree InfoServices has tracked an advertisement on DarkNet announcing secret access to the servers and database dump of over 6000 Indian businesses, according to an ET report. These businesses include both government and private organisations. It has identified the affected organisation as India's National <keyword id="6357247" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Internet">Internet</keyword> Registry: IRINN (Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers) which comes under <keyword id="670685" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-internet-exchange-of-india">National Internet Exchange of India</keyword> (NIXI). As a precautionary measure, <keyword id="3701415" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="seqrite">Seqrite</keyword> Intelligence Labs has reached out to government authorities and Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) with a strong recommendation to alert all potentially affected organisations and urge them to change passwords and get their servers and systems patched with latest updates. The hacker has priced the information at 15 Bitcoins and is offering network takedown of affected organizations for an unspecified amount. Along with the access, the hacker is also selling credentials, PII and various contractual business documents and claims to have access to a large database of Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC). Seqrite said that an ongoing trend is seen with other recent data breaches. They then contacted the actor for further details, posing as an interested buyer, and were finally able to get a sample of the email list. The sample shared included the email address of a prominent Indian technology firm and another from the Indian government; eventually, a list of about 6000 emails was shared which led them to believe that the compromised database was from IRINN. Seqrite said that if the database was sold, then an attack on the system could disrupt Internet IP allocation and in-turn affect Internet services in India.

L7 Defense specialises in Application Program Interface (API) Security and Next Generation Web Application Firewall (NG-WAF). "L7 Defense has proven its unique capabilities in the area of API Security and NG-WAF which led us to further increase our investment. Simultaneously, this move enables ‘Seqrite' to foray into application security and strengthen our solution stack to secure modern enterprises against the next-generation of cyber-attacks," said Dr Kailash Katkar, Managing Director and CEO, Quick Heal. Quick Heal's portfolio includes solutions under the names ‘Quick Heal' and ‘Seqrite' across various operating systems and devices. Since Quick Heal's previous investment, L7 Defense has acquired customers in financial, telecom and IT industries across US and Europe. This is Quick Heal's third investment in the last 18 months. According to the '<keyword id="10483231" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="threat-prediction">threat prediction</keyword> 2021' report by Seqrite, an enterprise security solutions brand by <keyword id="352084" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Quick-Heal-Technologies">Quick Heal Technologies</keyword>, although few ransomware operators agreed not to attack the healthcare sector during the Covid-19 crisis, several other attack groups have continued to use ransomware against this sector, largely because of the sensitive and personal data of patients they store. Numerous hospitals, COVID-19 research firms, and pharma companies have fallen victim to ransomware in the last quarter of 2020, "making it necessary for them to adopt or deploy a comprehensive set of security solutions," the findings showed, without sharing the names of the victims. "The pandemic acted as a huge opportunity for cyber criminals to innovate their <keyword id="10483232" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="attack-strategies">attack strategies</keyword> further, and steal sensitive data for their personal gain," said Himanshu Dubey, Director, Quick Heal Security Labs. These advancements are likely to continue in the coming year as well. There has been a massive surge in cyber attacks against the India vaccine makers and hospitals in the month of October and December. According to the latest research by New Delhi-based think tank <keyword id="9882284" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="cyberpeace-foundation">CyberPeace Foundation</keyword>, nearly 80 lakh attacks were recorded between October 1 and November 25 on the healthcare sector-based '<keyword id="10345584" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="threat-intelligence-sensors">Threat Intelligence Sensors</keyword>' network specifically simulated in India. According to Seqrite report, the use of ethical hacking among unethical hackers will increase to inject malware into the systems in 2021. "Threat actors will also use deep-fakes, automated phishing, red team tools, and crypto-mining to steal sensitive data," the report mentioned. Strengthening cybersecurity hence became the need of the hour for most businesses as they gear up for 2021, the report said. How to protect yourself from phishing scams In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, more people working from home — and hackers are more active than ever preying on unsecured networks. “Cybercriminals are exploiting the coronavirus outbreak to send fake emails with dangerous links to employees,” said Norton, a cybersecurity company. As risk escalates, it’s important to maintain a healthy suspicion for emails from email IDs you haven’t seen before, especially if its with respect to any coronavirus news. “Even if they promise news you are interested in, any information in the attachment will almost certainly be available from a more direct source, via a link of your own choosing,” said Paul Ducklin the principal research scientist at Sophos.
