Mumbai: Govinda will be discharged from a hospital here on Friday, four days after the actor was injured in the leg when his revolver accidentally went off, his family said. The 60-year-old actor underwent a surgery on Tuesday and is recuperating at a private hospital. Sharing a health update with the reporters, Govinda's daughter <keyword id="23177614" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tina-Ahuja" source="keywords">Tina Ahuja</keyword> said, "He is better. He is getting discharged today." The actor's wife, Sunita Ahuja, also told reporters that Govinda has been advised to rest for at least six weeks. "He will be discharged today. I will bring him here but he will have difficulty to stand... He is fine and will start dancing again in a few days. Everyone has prayed for him and we have the blessings of Mata rani," she said. "At home, the doctor has told him to remain on bed rest for six weeks. So, we will not allow many people because he could get infected. So, he needs to res," she added. 'Sir', as he was popular in political circles because of his teaching background and a stern demeanour, succumbed during treatment around 3 a.m., plunging the state political fraternity into gloom. His family said that Joshi's mortal remains will be kept at their home in Matunga to enable people to pay their last respects from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., and then taken in a procession for the funeral at Dadar Crematorium around 3 p.m. One of the closest confidantes of the late Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, Joshi had over six decades in politics starting as a Municipal Corporator, then Mayor, Maharashtra CM, Union Minister, then crowning glory as the Speaker of Lok Sabha. Joshi had been suffering from certain old-age related ailments for the past several months and largely kept out of public glare, but remained with the SS-UBT, till he breathed his last. Top leaders across the political spectrum have paid rich tributes to Joshi who headed the first-ever saffron government in the state comprising the undivided Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (1995-1999), in an era when politics was more principled and less unscrupulous. Manohar Joshi: The 'Sir' with a stern demeanour

Mumbai, In a setback for Congress in Mumbai ahead of Lok Sabha polls, former Union minister <keyword id="85636" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="milind-deora" source="Orion">Milind Deora</keyword> on Sunday quit the party "to walk the path of development" and joined the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, ending a "55 years old association" of the Deora family with the Grand Old Party. With Deora resigning just before the start of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the Congress alleged that the timing of the announcement of his departure from the party was determined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for headline management to counter the yatra, and asserted that it would have no impact. The former Mumbai South MP announced his decision to resign from the primary membership of the party on social media platform X in the morning hours on Sunday. "Today marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in my political journey. I have tendered my resignation from the primary membership of the Congress, ending my family's 55-year relationship with the party. I am grateful to all leaders, colleagues and karyakartas for their unwavering support over the years," Deora stated. He later went to Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi to offer prayers. In the afternoon, Deora joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of Eknath Shinde in a function at Varsha, the official residence of the chief minister. Earlier in the day, when Deora stepped out of his residence 'Ramalayam' in south Mumbai, he told reporters that he was "going to walk on the path of development". Deora, who was recently appointed the joint treasurer of the All India Congress Committee, had expressed disapproval at the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) staking a claim to the Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency which he had represented in the past. She has been asked by the Ethics Committee to appear before it on November 2. Moitra was first asked by the Ethics Committee to appear before it on October 31. Following the first summons, she sent a letter to the Ethics Committee Chairperson Vinod Sonkar saying that she will depose on any date after November 5 after her pre scheduled constituency programme ends and not on October 31. Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister <keyword id="193503" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="eknath-shinde" source="Orion">Eknath Shinde</keyword> has been working to assuage the concerns of <keyword id="6358821" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="shiv-sena" source="Orion">Shiv Sena</keyword> lawmakers after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader <keyword id="6366108" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ajit-pawar" source="Orion">Ajit Pawar</keyword> joined the coalition government and asserted there was nothing to worry, Sena legislators said. Shinde, who presided over a meeting of Shiv Sena MLAs, MLCs and MPs on Wednesday, was kept in the loop about the fast-paced developments in the NCP which culminated in Ajit Pawar taking oath as deputy CM along with eight other ministers on July 2 in a stunning turn of events, they said. A section of Shiv Sena lawmakers had raised certain concerns after the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar joined the one-year-old Shinde-BJP government. The induction of the rebel NCP group in the cabinet has dented the prospects of ministerial aspirants from the BJP and the Shiv Sena, leaving some of them upset and Shinde is aware of their sentiments Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar said earlier in the day. Amid the changed politician equation, Shiv Sena MLAs and MPs on Wednesday night attended a meeting at Shinde's official residence 'Varsha' in south Mumbai. "A lot of issues were discussed in the meeting like the ones pertaining to the monsoon session of Parliament as well as in the state legislature, strengthening the party's organisation," said a party MP. Another party MP said Shinde was asked whether he know about the sudden developments in the NCP to which he responded in the affirmative. The MP said the political developments took place at a rapid pace due to which Sena lawmakers could not be informed about them in advance. The chief minister stressed the Ajit Pawar-led NCP group joining the ruling alliance will only help the party lawmakers, the MP added. "He said there was nothing to worry as the BJP and the Shiv Sena have been in the government for a year now and the NCP (faction led by Ajit Pawar) joining the government will not affect its functioning in anyway," a Shiv Sena MLC said. Last year, more than three dozen Shiv Sena MLAs, led by Shinde, had revolted against party president Uddhav Thackeray over his decision to join hands with the the NCP and the Congress which crystallised in formation of the <keyword id="8357634" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="maha-vikas-aghadi" source="Orion">Maha Vikas Aghadi</keyword> (MVA) government in 2019. They had also alleged Ajit Pawar, who was the finance minister in the erstwhile MVA government, did not allocate enough funds for development of their constituencies. Earlier in the day, Sena MP Kirtikar told PTI, "The scope of ministerial aspirants from the BJP and the Shiv Sena minimised after the NCP (rebel faction) joined the government. This has upset some MLAs. The chief minister was aware of this." With the induction of nine ministers from the <keyword id="17888465" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ajit-pawar-camp" source="Orion">Ajit Pawar camp</keyword>, the strength of the Shinde-Fadnavis cabinet has gone up to 29, leaving 14 posts still vacant. On Tuesday, Shiv Sena spokesperson and MLA Sanjay Shirsat indicated there was some uneasiness in a section of the party after the latest political development. "Party (Shiv Sena) workers and supporters have started asking us how and why did Ajit Pawar and his group join the government? They said will it shrink their political space in the state. But I can assure you that Ajit Pawar joining the government was inevitable," Shirsat said.

<keyword id="6358821" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shiv-sena" source="Orion">Shiv Sena</keyword> chief whip Sunil Prabhu Wednesday alleged in the Supreme Court that Maharashtra Governor's direction to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to take a floor test in the Assembly on Thursday was "malafide, unconstitutional, and illegal." The plea challenging the Governor's direction was mentioned before a vacation bench of Justices Surya Kant and J B Pardiwala who took note of submissions of senior advocate A M Singhvi that an urgent hearing was needed and is scheduled to hear the matter at 5 pm. The petition contended that Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari vide communication dated June 28, 2022 (which was received today i.e., on June 29 at about 9:00 am) has decided to hold a floor test in complete defiance of the fact that this court is seized of the issue of the disqualification proceedings. "Such undue haste is manifestly arbitrary and therefore violative of Article 14," said the plea and sought directions seeking setting aside of the impugned communication sent by the Governor to the Chief Minister as well as to the secretary of the Assembly. "It is submitted that this Court is considering the validity of the disqualification proceedings and has kept the matter for hearing on July 11, 2022. The issue of disqualification is directly connected/interlinked with the issue of floor tests. "It is submitted that the impugned communications are entirely based on media reports with no concrete material whatsoever. None of the 39 MLAs, it appears, have individually or collectively written to the Hon'ble Governor about their decision to withdraw support from the MVA-led government," the plea said. Prabhu submitted in his plea that the impugned directions ought not to have been issued without the aid and advice of the council of the ministers led by the Chief Minister. "It is surprising that the leader of the opposition admittedly meets the Governor at 10:00 pm on June 28, 2022, and the impugned communications are also of the same date. This only shows the undue haste with which the Hon'ble Governor has acted without even asking the CM for his views in respect of the political scenario in the State. "The impugned directions, it seems, have been issued on the 'aid and advice of the leader of the opposition, which is clearly not contemplated under the constitution," the plea said. The petition stated that there is absolutely no ground or material to call for an urgent floor test on June 30, 2022, when this court is already seized of parallel proceedings and wherein constitutional issues are to be decided. "The Governor with little or scant respect to the sanctity and dignity of this court has proceeded to go ahead and order a floor test in a clear attempt to shield the MLAs from the punishment entailed on account of the constitutional sin of defection. "The floor test, no doubt, is a constitutional mandate to ascertain who has the majority as our democracy is founded on the rule of the majority. An equally concomitant consideration and constitutional imperative in the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution which prescribes and outlines who can be entitled to vote or be a part of the Assembly," the plea said. Prabhu contended that the respondents in the disqualification petitions have already lost their membership on the day they voluntarily gave up their membership from Shiv Sena. "The disqualification proceedings under the Tenth Schedule are only a formal adjudication of this fact or otherwise of disqualification. The order of the Speaker/Deputy Speaker is an ex post facto recognition of the event of disqualification which had occurred at an anterior point of time," it said. Koshyari has asked the Maharashtra Legislature Secretary to hold a floor test of the <keyword id="8400868" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MVA-government" source="Orion">MVA government</keyword> at 11 am on Thursday. The Governor's letter comes amid the rebellion in the ruling Shiv Sena by senior minister <keyword id="193503" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="eknath-shinde" source="Orion">Eknath Shinde</keyword>, who has been camping in Guwahati since last week with the majority of party legislators and several independent MLAs, which has pushed the government led by Thackeray, who is also the Sena president, into a crisis. Earlier, the apex court on June 27 had kept in abeyance the disqualification proceedings against rebel Shiv Sena MLAs before the Deputy Speaker of the state Assembly till July 11, and also sought responses from the state government and others on their pleas questioning the legality of notices seeking their disqualification.
