The Mumbai-based auto major on Monday launched a midsize SUV coupe <keyword id="20400827" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Curvv" source="keywords">Curvv</keyword> with petrol and diesel powertrains with a price starting at Rs 9.99 lakh. The company has already unveiled the electric version of the model in August. The model would be competing with the likes of <keyword id="2883300" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Creta" source="Orion">Hyundai Creta</keyword>, <keyword id="7720018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia-Seltos" source="Orion">Kia Seltos</keyword>, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate, among others. "Curvv is being positioned in the fast-growing, mid-size SUV segment, which is roughly 16% of the whole industry (passenger vehicle) size. If translated into numbers, it would be like 7 lakh units a year," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle MD Shailesh Chandra told PTI in an interaction. The segment is very competitive with various brands having a product already in the market, he noted. Therefore, if one enters this segment so late, then it will have to think of coming up with a slightly differentiated approach, Chandra said. "And that was the thinking behind Curvv, which comes with an SUV coupe body style. We saw that this was gaining popularity globally, especially in the premium or luxury segment," he added. Further, he said: "So we thought, why don't we bring this into the crowded segment as a fresh, refreshing kind of a body style." When asked about sales expectations from the model, Chandra said: "We have come with this model, with the best in class features. It's a differentiated product in this and therefore we think it is going to perform well." He noted that Tata Motors currently has a market share of around 19% in the SUV segment and expects the new model to help it grow further. "We'll gain from where we are. The market leader in SUVs would be, say, 21-22 %, so it's a crowded segment. It's not that one player is holding the roost here. "All the top 3-4 players in SUVs are around the same market share figure," Chandra said. He noted that the company is also looking to enhance its dealer network by around 10-15 % in the next one year. "We have a very aggressive plan of expanding dealerships. We will need to have an enhanced network. We will have to make them bigger, also in size. And therefore, for EVs, we have started separation of the outlets. So there will be expansion in touchpoints, not only on the sales side, but big time on the service side as well," Chandra said. <keyword id="20400828" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-curvv" source="keywords">Tata Curvv</keyword> comes with two petrol and a diesel engine option. New Delhi, <keyword id="4151067" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kia-india" source="Orion">Kia India</keyword> on Tuesday unveiled the updated version of its mid-sized sports utility vehicle Seltos, as it aims to garner a 10 per cent market share in the domestic passenger vehicle (PV) segment. The automaker, which currently has a market share of around 7 per cent in the domestic market, also aims to double its existing sales network to 600 plus outlets from over 300. "Seltos is the product with which we entered India, and since then, the journey of Kia India and the Seltos has been almost identical. We have a segment disruptor and a segment winner in the new Seltos and are confident to take forward the strong legacy of the <keyword id="17897717" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="brand-seltos" source="Orion">Brand Seltos</keyword> to lead the premium RV market," Kia India Managing Director and CEO Tae-Jin Park said. This strategic launch is key to the company's ambitions of attaining a 10 per cent market share soon, he added. "We feel that there is a lot of growth potential in the mid-SUV segment, and the new Seltos will grow the premium end of it," Park noted. With the refreshed look, most powerful engine in the segment, and host of safety and smart features, the new Seltos inevitably will emerge as the most preferred drive for new-age customers, he added. Seltos brand currently contributes 55 per cent to Kia India's overall sales. It is one of the biggest brands for the Kia Corporation, with one out of every ten Kia cars sold globally being a Seltos. The new Seltos comes with all-new interiors and various safety features, including level 2 advanced driver assistance systems. The model is powered by 1.5-litre petrol and diesel powertrains mated with manual and automatic transmissions. Kia will open the bookings for the model, which would be available in 18 trims, on July 14 and commence sales on July 25.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported a double-digit growth in dispatches to dealers, while Kia saw a dip in wholesales last month. MG Motor India also reported a double-digit increase in retail sales in June 2023 compared to the same month last year. Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, said its domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 8 per cent to 1,33,027 units in June against 1,22,685 units in the year-ago period. Sales of mini cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, fell marginally to 14,054 units compared to 14,442 units a year ago. Similarly, sales in the compact segment, models such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, slumped 17 per cent to 64,471 units from 77,746 cars in June 2022. Utility vehicle sales, including Brezza, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, however, surged over two-fold to 43,404 units compared to 18,860 vehicles in the year-ago month, MSI said. MSI Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava said the automaker grew faster than the industry in June, enabling it to scale up its overall market share by 2.4 per cent to 41 per cent. The overall passenger vehicle industry dispatches grew by 1.9 per cent to 3,27,700 lakh units from 3,21,600 lakh units in the year-ago period, he said. MSI, on the other hand, dispatched 1,33,027 lakh passenger vehicles last month, up 8 per cent from 1,22,685 lakh units in June 2022. Srivastava noted that the domestic passenger vehicle segment has crossed 20 lakh sales-mark in the first half of the year, a 10 per cent growth over 18.31 lakh units dispatched in the January-June period of 2022. MSI dispatches to dealers during the period stood at 8,61,000 units over 7,87,000 units in the corresponding period a year ago, he added. He noted that the company's SUV market share rose to 21 per cent in the April-June quarter this fiscal, compared to an 8.5 per cent market share in the same period of the preceding fiscal. Srivastava noted that with the addition of new models like Jimny and Fronx, the company remained hopeful of attaining around 25 per cent market share in the segment to take the top slot in the segment by the end of the current financial year. On supply chain shortages, he said the situation is expected to get better in the current quarter. MSI currently has a pending order backlog of 3.55 lakh units, he stated. When asked about challenges, Srivastava said that high-interest rates and chances of an erratic monsoon were some of the factors, which the company was closely monitoring. Rival Hyundai Motor India reported a 2 per cent rise in its domestic sales at 50,001 units last month from 49,001 units in June 2022. "There is a positive customer traction for all our products and Verna, Creta and Tucson have attained leadership positions in their respective segments in the first half of CY23," HMIL COO Tarun Garg said. Toyota Kirloskar Motor also said its total wholesales increased 19 per cent to 19,608 units in June compared to 16,512 units in the year-ago period. Its domestic dispatches stood at 18,237 units while overseas shipments were at 1,371 units. "Ever since the launch of Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Innova Hycross, we are witnessing continued high acceptance by our customers," TKM Vice President (Sales and Strategic Marketing) Atul Sood said. On the other hand, Kia India said its domestic wholesales declined 19 per cent to 19,391 units in June. The company dispatched 24,024 units to dealers in June 2022. "We have kept our performance steady with healthy growth, despite the realignment of our manufacturing process to accommodate the development of the new Seltos this month," Kia India National Head (Sales &amp; Marketing) Hardeep Singh Brar said. With the launch of new Seltos, the automaker aims to be one of the top mid-SUV segment leaders again and hopes for a strong sales surge, he added. Another automaker, MG Motor India reported a 14 per cent increase in retail sales at 5,125 units in June 2023 against 4,504 units in the same month last year. "Supplies were disrupted in the wake of cyclone Biparjoy though customer demand should now gain momentum following the monsoon as India gears up for a long festive season," the company said.

The truck delivers on compact size and an enticing starting price of around $20,000, but Ford is entering uncharted territory - and it's not a certainty that customers will bite."We still need to see if there's a real market for these kinds of lifestyle pickups," Augusto Amorim, a senior manager of sales forecasting at the research firm LMC Automotive, told Insider. "It's so much smaller than what we are used to when you think about a truck. Ford's thinking here is to target nontraditional, more urban truck buyers with a vehicle that's easier to maneuver and park than other pickups, but still offers similar functionality. But it's a gamble, Amorim says, given that it's an untested segment. LMC is forecasting that Ford will sell between 40,000 and 50,000 Mavericks per year. That's peanuts compared with the number of F-Series trucks it moves annually - usually 800,000 or more - but it's about in line with sales of the Honda Ridgeline, another car-based pickup. The Maverick's $19,995 entry price - which makes it Ford's new entry-level offering and the cheapest pickup truck on the market - was very much a deliberate move, Ford vice president Jim Baumbick told Insider. The Maverick could very well spark a deluge of new compact pickups from General Motors and others, especially if it does well.But competitors will likely find it hard to enter the market with a product as compelling and attractively priced as Ford's pickup, Drury said. GMCThe teaser photo for the new GMC Hummer.Audi put its reasoning simply in an <a href="https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases/audi-and-maisie-williams-invite-the-world-to-let-it-go-and-embrace-electric-future-in-game-day-spot-12519">announcement</a> about its ad featuring the electric E-Tron and the song "Let It Go," saying the goal was to convince viewers to "let go of the past and drive into an era of radical reinvention."In other words, Audi thinks it's time to let go and embrace EVs - particularly its new E-Tron - in spite of the market not quite being there yet.Automakers also spent a lot of money getting that messaging out, with <a href="https://www.adweek.com/brand-marketing/ab-inbev-pg-pepsico-hyundai-are-the-biggest-super-bowl-ad-spenders/">Adweek</a> writing that the going rate for a 30-second slot this year was as much as $5.6 million. Data provided to Business Insider from Kantar Media showed that the car industry chose to drift toward the long side for its ads, with automakers being the most frequent users of long-form commercials - a years-long trend in the industry. Seven of the eight car ads, Kantar's data said, lasted exactly 60 seconds. (Kantar only includes eight ads in its data because it measured national ads, while the Mach-E commercial was purchased for select local markets.) Audi, on the topic of its "Let It Go" theme in the E-Tron commercial, said in an announcement that the messaging will "help kick off a global brand campaign about Audi's long-term ambition to shape a new era of sustainable mobility." Ford, which told Business Insider it ran spots for its electric Mustang Mach-E crossover "in several regional markets" including Detroit rather than pushing the ad nationwide, has also <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-autoshow-detroit-ford-motor/ford-plans-11-billion-investment-40-electrified-vehicles-by-2022-idUSKBN1F30YZ">said</a> it wants 40 electric or electrified vehicles in its 2022 lineup and will <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ford-adds-production-of-electric-vehicles-at-secon-north-american-site-2019-3">spend $11 billion</a> to make it happen. <a href="https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2019/products/porsche-taycan-world-premiere-live-all-electric-sports-car-18445.html">Porsche</a>The Porsche Taycan Turbo S.Porsche has said <a href="https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/annual-sustainability-report-2018/perspective/foreword-oliver-blume-ceo-porsche-16988.html">multiple</a> <a href="https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/company/porsche-diesel-cayenne-v6-3-statement-14134.html">times</a> that it wants roughly half of its delivered cars to feature some sort of electrification by 2025, and the president and CEO of Porsche's North American arm, Klaus Zellmer, told Business Insider in a statement that the company highlighted the electric Taycan in its first Super Bowl ad in two decades because of the shift it represents. "The Taycan is momentous for Porsche because it launches us into a new era of electrification," Zellmer said. "We wanted to be bold by showing as many people as possible that electrification is consistent with the Porsche brand and that the Taycan shares the same sports-car soul as its iconic predecessors."All of that talk is compared to the actual market, where <a href="https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a29732878/electric-cars-sales-manual-transmission/">JD Power logged EV sales</a> as barely outpacing demand for the dying manual transmission in the third quarter of last year. Still, sales of both were small: EVs made up 1.9% of new-car sales at that tally, versus 1.1% for manuals. Sales have climbed over the past decade, with <a href="https://afdc.energy.gov/data/10567">government data</a> listing annual combined sales for plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles at 17,763 in 2011 versus 326,644 in 2019, but they're still not high comparatively. Total new-car sales surpassed 17 million in the US last year, according to the <a href="https://apnews.com/8023672948e761fe1a60523a60b991fc">Associated Press</a>. But the Super Bowl ads are less about the current market and more about where it's headed. As fuel-economy regulations tighten across the globe - <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-california-emissions-rules-la-smog-photos-2019-9">although not necessarily in the US</a> - and countries set dates to outlaw the sale of new gas-powered cars, we're in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/promises-carmakers-have-made-about-their-future-electric-vehicles-2020-1#toyota-1">a market shift toward EVs</a>. GMCadillac's first fully electric vehicle, which was not advertised during the Super Bowl.Toyota and Volvo want to get half of their sales from electrified vehicles - a buzzword that doesn't necessarily translate to fully electric, but indicates some form of electrification - by 2025. Volkswagen wants EVs to make up 40% of its global fleet by 2030.General Motors wants Cadillac to become its flagship electric brand, and Fiat Chrysler said in 2018 that it will <a href="https://apnews.com/ed200dcfd5684625954e90969ad3185c">invest $10.5 billion</a> in electrification over the next couple of years. Honda wants every car in its European lineup to be at least partially electrified by 2022, and Nissan wants to introduce eight new EVs by that same year. Those are just a few carmaker goals, and they fall in line with global expectations as cities and countries <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/countries-banning-gas-cars-2017-10#norway-will-only-sell-electric-and-hybrid-vehicles-starting-in-2030-1">continue to set expiration dates</a> for the sale and driving of non-electrified vehicles. The dates range from 2025 through 2040, with the former being just five years away. Thus, while no automaker that advertised during the Super Bowl manufactures EVs exclusively, it makes sense to get ahead in terms of advertising.
