The energy supply order has been secured by wholly-owned subsidiary JSW Neo Energy Limited, JSW Energy said, adding that the company received the letter of award following a tariff-based competitive bidding process. Bids were invited for supply of 630 MW of firm and dispatchable power from an inter state transmission system or ISTS-connected renewable energy project SECI-FDRE-IV, JSW Energy said in an exchange filing. With the latest <keyword id="19895601" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="contract" source="keywords">contract</keyword>, the company's total locked-in generation capacity has increased to 16.4 GW, which includes a hybrid capacity of 2.3 GW, including FDRE (firm and dispatchable renewable energy). Here, it was all about super high monetary stakes, lightning-fast trade deals, and bucketloads of money shifting hands every single second. This wilderness lured millions of individuals with the promise of super duper high returns. But, at what cost? Welcome to the unforgiving, ultra-risky wild west of <keyword id="19991165" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-equity-markets" source="keywords">Indian equity markets</keyword> called the <keyword id="145718" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Futures-and-Options" source="Orion">futures and options</keyword>. Here, everyone seems to just fly right through the bright red-flagged warnings of financial risks to earn even a fraction of these promised returns. Most burn themselves in the process, but carry on nevertheless, as if nothing ever happened. <h2>Chasing the cloudy profits</h2>The data conclusively proves that every 9 out of 10 individuals only lost their hard-earned money in this land. But hey, what do the numbers know? Some hide their losses out of shame, some out of fear. The proponents, meanwhile, proudly boast unusually high returns on their investments, some open social media channels while others encourage their friends and family to take the plunge. Naturally, news of this unstoppable and humongous en-masse migration to the F&amp;O (futures and options) town has reached sheriff <keyword id="19901201" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SEBI" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="SEBI" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="SEBI">SEBI</keyword>, galvanising them into action. After all, it was time to put a leash on this madness and save the common man. The inhabitants of this town doubled in the last 2 years, from 51 lakh in FY22 to 96 lakh in FY24—99.8% of whom were small and mid-income traders. But profits? Well, that's a different, rather completely absent story. <h2>Que Sera Sera, much?</h2>A recent report by SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) that studied profits and losses made by traders in the equity derivatives segment between FY22-24 exposed the mad mania of futures and options trading in India, especially since the pandemic. Per the report, 91.1% of individual traders, or about 73 lakh traders had only lost money trading in futures and options in FY24. Between FY 22-24, over 1 crore traders, or about 92.8% of individual traders, had lost Rs 2 lakh each. But once bitten, twice shy? Well, not in this case. More than 75% of individuals, who had only made losses trading in F&amp;O in FY22 and FY23, continued to trade vigorously in FY24 as well, without any changes in the bottom line, which remained deep in red and negative. So, then all these traders must be uber-rich, with tons of cash and not much care to spare? Nope. 76% of traders in the F&amp;O space in FY24 had an annual income of less than Rs 5 lakh. 2 years ago, their share stood at 71%. And their choice of poison? Options! In FY24, 60% of traders made losses trading in futures, but a whopping 91.5% burnt their funds trading in options. Mind you, futures are riskier than options. With futures, which require significant capital investment, the buyer and seller both are contractually bound to adhere to the pre-determined strike price of the futures or options contract, irrespective of whether the prevailing prices are higher or lower (and thus, resulting in losses for either the buyer or seller). With options, since this adherence ain't necessary, individuals end up taking debt to take highly leveraged positions while trading here. <h2>Scale of the explosion</h2>Anyone who trades even infrequently will tell you that a demat account is the mitochondria or powerhouse of the trading cell. As of August 2024, India had over 17.1 crore <keyword id="20957284" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="demat-accounts" source="keywords">demat accounts</keyword>, which are a prerequisite for trading in the markets. India is the 9th biggest country in the world, in terms of total demat accounts. Did you know that our demat accounts are at par with the entire population of Bangladesh? Talk about scale! Just 4 years ago, in March 2020, this number was a mere 4 crore. Naturally, the total F&amp;O turnover on both <keyword id="20004725" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="NSE" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="NSE">NSE</keyword> and BSE has hit the roof, and also broken it. As of October 4, 2024, the total futures and options turnover on NSE stood at a massive Rs 4,78,27,27,750.30 crore. As of September 2024, India's STT mop-up had gone past Rs 26,000 crore. Traders have to pay STT whenever they buy or sell any security in the market. So, more trading brings in more STT, and hence, more revenue for the government, so they're not really complaining. After all, this is certainly what they'd call enviable growth. As of August 2023, our STT collection stood at about Rs 21,599 crores. And in FY20-21, India's STT collection had been Rs 16,000 crore. If only our salaries also managed to grow at this rate! <h2>So, what's happening?</h2>Two things. One, it's the big bulls who are raking in all the moolah. And it's the younger lot (those aged under 30) who are propping them up for this. In FY24, 43% of individual traders in the market were less than 30 years of age. In just one year, this number has swelled by 12 percentage points from just 31% of individual traders. But who says ageing is bad? Wrinkles and silver hair seemingly have a propensity of incurring lesser losses in the market. In FY24, only 79% of traders aged above 60 years made losses, as compared to 93% of those aged below 30. Small and mid-income traders, which make up 98% of the total trader base, witnessed average losses per person of Rs 65,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh in FY24 in futures and options, respectively. The winner here? Clearly, the big bulls, who declared an annual income of over Rs 1 crore, ended up with average profits of Rs 96,000 per person this year. <h2>What’s the sheriff up to?</h2>The government has finally swung into action, hiking the STT rate for F&amp;O during this year’s budget. Effective October 1, 2024, the STT on futures stands at 0.02%, up from 0.0125%. For options, it was upped to 0.1% versus 0.0625% previously. Small margins, but huge impact oncoming. Says Puneet Sharma- CEO and Fund Manager at Whitespace Alpha, “SEBI aims to enhance market stability while safeguarding investor interests, reflecting the regulator's intent to balance risk management with market participation”. But this might come with its own share of challenges, too. “Stricter norms around leverage, transparency, and capital adequacy could limit the ability of investors to determine their own risk appetite, thereby stifling innovation in trading strategies. Over-regulation in an environment that thrives on strategic flexibility and creativity could dampen the market’s dynamism, affecting India's competitiveness in the global derivatives landscape”, he observes. SEBI recently came out with a set of guidelines that aim to thwart <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">retail investors</keyword>' participation in futures and options and hinder them from taking undue risks. Here's a quick recap of what's to come for the residents of the F&amp;O town Margin Requirements: To battle the high volatility and chaos which is generally seen on expiry days(i.e the last mandated date, post which an option becomes invalid), SEBI will put in place an extreme loss margin (ELM) of 2% for all open short options on the day of expiry. Translation? Traders will need to pony up more cash upfront, leaving them with fewer funds to take on risky bets. It ain't a choice: No more of one expiry every single day! Going ahead, an exchange like BSE or NSE will just be able to offer weekly expiries, that too, only on one benchmark index, as opposed to an entire buffet it currently offers. At present, NSE offers weekly options contracts for its financial index, bank and midcap indices. But say goodbye to this, and hello to derivatives on only 1 index per exchange. Raising the bar: Effective November 30, 2024, the minimum contract value for index derivatives will be upped to Rs 15 lakh, from the present Rs 5-10 lakh. The hope is that by making it ultra-expensive to enter these trades, investors will be dissuaded from taking on risky trades. Pay upfront: Starting February 2025, those trading in options will have to pay the entire options premium upfront, even before their trades are executed. This is because options generally carry very high leverage, and paying a significant sum upfront can force traders to think twice. Invigilation Pro Max: Starting April 1 2025, to make sure that the number of positions for equity index derivatives does not slyly slip over the mandated limit, especially on expiry days when trade volumes are huge, the exchanges will have to take a minimum of 4 position snapshots randomly. The question is, will these injections of sobriety be enough to calm down the steroid-fed bull of the futures and options market in India? Well, only time and market turnover will tell! <ul class="summary-list"><li>Israel launched ground incursions into Lebanon on Tuesday, opening up a new war front.</li><li>The IDF said they were "limited, localized and targeted ground" raids against Hezbollah targets.</li></ul>Israel faces a security dilemma in deciding how far it should go in its operations inside Lebanon, according to security experts.Early on Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://x.com/IDF/status/1840890054819864776">said</a> it had launched "limited, localized, and targeted ground raids" against Hezbollah targets and infrastructure in southern Lebanon — opening up a new front in the escalating conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed militant group.The ground offensive comes after months of cross-border projectile exchanges and a series of Israeli airstrikes on September 27 that killed Hezbollah's longtime chief, <a target="_blank" rel=" nofollow" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-was-hassan-nasrallah-the-hezbollah-leader-killed-by-israel-2024-9">Hassan Nasrallah</a>.The IDF said its ground operation would follow a "methodical" plan, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://x.com/IDF/status/1840986613029224748">adding</a> it would continue fighting until it achieved all its war goals.But security experts told BI that the IDF runs the risk of prolonged conflict and increasingly bloody fighting in Lebanon should it decide to go further into the country."A full-scale Israeli ground offensive in southern Lebanon would not be an easy task," Clionadh Raleigh, executive director of the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, and Ameneh Mehvar, a Middle East regional specialist with ACLED, said in a joint statement.They told BI that Hezbollah had been preparing for this scenario "for years" and that the IDF would "likely encounter more intense fighting than in Gaza, which could lead to greater Israeli casualties."Farzan Sabet, a senior research associate at the Global Governance Centre and the Sanctions and Sustainable Peace Hub at the Geneva Graduate Institute, went further in his assessment."One of the major risks involved in such operations is that Israel will squander the major strategic and tactical victories obtained against Hezbollah and become trapped in a military quagmire in Lebanon," he said.<h2 id="27ec35c1-df96-4347-9ee3-0000c20734eb">A more perilous terrain than Gaza</h2>Israel's ground operations inside Lebanon bear some resemblance to the ones it conducted in Gaza about a year ago.In October 2023, the IDF <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/major-events-during-100-days-war-between-israel-hamas-2024-01-14/">mounted</a> limited ground incursions into Gaza and called on Palestinians to evacuate to the south of the enclave before launching a broader offensive.While the early stages of the IDF's ground operations in Lebanon are similar to its early operations in Gaza, Hezbollah's military capabilities, Lebanon's political circumstances, and its topography make the country a whole different reality, security analysts told BI.<div type="image" title="Israeli army tanks were deployed in the Upper Galilee region of northern Israel near the border with Lebanon on September 29, 2024." height="5462" width="8192" msid="113859101" hostid="261" sizebytes="1879964"></div>Sabet of the Geneva Graduate Institute said an Israel offensive in Lebanon will be "distinct" from the one in Gaza in that the IDF would be operating on a "much larger" territory against a "bigger and more sophisticated" adversary.While the Gaza Strip is about 140 square miles in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.britannica.com/place/Gaza-Strip">size</a>, Lebanon is about 4,036 square miles.Hezbollah is also <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hezbollah-breach-israel-iron-dome-likely-backfire-destruction-lebanon-2024-9">estimated</a> to have stockpiles of up to 200,000 missiles.Burcu Ozcelik, a senior research fellow for Middle East Security at the UK's Royal United Services Institute, said that the IDF's limited ground raids across the Lebanese border would expose its troops to combat with Hezbollah fighters on a terrain that is Hezbollah's "home turf," and where it commands control over military infrastructure and local communities."This is not an area that is peppered with densely populated urban centers in the way the Gaza Strip is," she told BI.Raleigh and Mehvar of ACLED, meanwhile, said the nature of the operation in Lebanon differs from those in Gaza. Business Insider talked to three recruiters in the field to learn the best practices for getting a job in the industry.<h2 id="e6c5a673-829f-4d59-ab62-a8a3d6089c92">1. Avoid job hoppiness on your résumé</h2>Matt Grussendorf, a delivery manager at The Judge Group, oversees hiring for aerospace, government, and defense employers — and he said job "hoppiness" is a red flag.For some roles, it's okay to have one six-month contract after another on your résumé, Grussendorf said. But in certain fields, like aerospace and defense, employers may be looking for longer tenure, he told Business Insider.While short stints may seem inevitable in the industry, there are ways to avoid positioning them that way. Lauren Irizarry, a senior talent acquisition partner at A2 Federal, said if you do have shorter contracts, there's a way to format your résumé to make it look more consistent.For example, she said if you've worked as a data scientist for 12 years with eight different contracting companies, you can put "data scientist" at the top of your résumé and list the individual contracts underneath instead of listing eight separate lines with the same role.<h2 id="0f53424d-0730-4561-bf9e-f763b73e2e13">2. Make sure your clearances are up to date</h2>Many government contracting roles require clearances, which can vary depending on the role and may also expire over time.Irizarry said it's often easier to start with a larger company so that they sponsor your clearance. However, Quadesha Bynum, who worked in HR at various government agencies and contracting companies before starting her own <a target="_blank" href="https://www.transition-forward.net/">company</a>, said it can be difficult to land a government contracting job at a big company when starting out, so smaller firms may be a good place to start.Whether you have the required clearance or not, it's important to accurately list it, Grussendorf said. Recruiting companies like The Judge Group check candidates' clearance, so applicants should verify their status when they apply for a role.Additionally, candidates who are unwilling to get their clearance verified or checked can be a red flag.<h2 id="e79e3fd4-a346-4f99-87c7-6294b4a9b43b">3. Network, network, network</h2>Irizarry said the government contracting industry is "all about networking." The site allows users to browse through thousands of open roles, many of which have contact info for recruiters.Grussendorf recommends reaching out to recruiters, talent acquisition at staffing agencies, or direct employers and telling them the job and salary range you're looking for to stay on their "candidate hot list."<h2 id="7e2ed1a6-c26f-462b-821d-81228c0ad579">5. Be open to relocation</h2>There are several government hubs around the country, including in D.C., Seattle, Southern California, Alabama, and Denver, said Grussendorf. Most direct hire opportunities offer relocation packages, but contract or contract-to-hire positions typically don't, he said.But Grussendorf said many employers end up extending the contract or hiring a candidate after they make the commitment to the company. The company's revenue jumped up by 2.2% on a quarter-on-quarter basis and a 5.4% on a YoY basis, reaching Rs 62,613 crore for April-June 2024, as opposed to Rs 61,237 crore in the quarter before. The company's PAT (profit after tax) saw a marginal dip on a QoQ basis of 3.2%, reaching Rs 120.4 billion. However, on a YoY basis, PAT saw a robust 8.7% growth. The company TCV (total contract value) or order book for the quarter dipped significantly by 37.1% to $8.3 billion, also registering a fall of 18.6% on a YoY basis. <h2>Dip in attrition, rise in employee count</h2>However, the company managed to add 5,452 employees to its workforce, as opposed to losing 1,759 employees during the previous quarter. This takes the company's total workforce to 6,06,998. Its attrition rate, at 12.1% this quarter, also came down from 12.5% from the previous quarter. Per the company, AI Cloud, Cyber Security and Enterprise Solutions led their growth this quarter. The company also saw a YoY growth (in constant currency terms) of 61.8% in its India markets, jumping from 4.9% in Q1FY24 to 7.5% in Q1FY25. The company's client base of ones worth over $100 million and $50 million increased by 3 each during the year. On the other hand, clients worth over $10 million rose by 18, and ones over $1 million inched up by 42 on a YoY basis.

TCS Q1 results 2024: Contract values, net profits take a hit as PAT, employee count sees hike

Google said its security team uses the data to identify people who may pose a security risk.After news of the system was <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/06/26/google-testing-facial-recognition-technology-for-security-near-seattle.html?qsearchterm=Google%20facial%20recognition">first reported</a> by CNBC, Business Insider talked to Google employees at various campuses to find out what they thought about the change. The employees requested anonymity to speak freely but their employment has been verified.One employee who frequently visits the Kirkland office where the technology is being tested told BI that they found out about the new system from reading about it in the news. They said the cameras are discretely placed on ceilings and don't look different from other security cameras.But the employee said it's a "little dystopian" and people in the office have privacy concerns about the new system."A lot are concerned about facial data being stored by Google," the employee said. "Data is extremely valuable."While people at the testing site can't opt out of facial screening when entering the building, a Google spokesperson said the data is for immediate use and isn't stored. The facial data was initially compared with ID badge images during early testing, but employees could fill out a form to opt out of their badge photo being stored, the spokesperson said. The badge ID images are no longer being used, they added.Google said the new technology is solely implemented in its Kirkland office at the moment, but employees BI talked to wondered if the system could eventually be rolled out more widely.An employee who works in the New York office said that they have no privacy concerns with facial recognition technology at the office. They said Google already has security surveillance all over its campuses so this will just make it easier for the security team to do their job.However, an employee who works in San Francisco said they think the system could be used as a secondary method for monitoring office attendance. I started at Duke University in 2019, where I helped launch their creator economy programs.I was a content creator on LinkedIn and TikTok already, so understood the creator space. I hosted an event at Duke with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/serenakerrigan/?hl=en">Serena Kerrigan</a>, an influencer and alum. During the event, I became friends with her creative strategist, whom I shadowed at work in 2021. She helped me learn how to make content in line with digital trends and build an audience.I began cold-contacting creators on LinkedIn, offering social media management and content management and landed some freelance clients while studying.<h2 id="2b9436f2-bc43-4819-9544-799ffb8a1449">My grad job offer was rescinded</h2>Even though I was already freelancing, I planned to work in a corporate job after university. The culture at Duke was focused on becoming a lawyer, doctor, or consultant, and I internalized those expectations.I completed an internship at <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/linkedin-layoffs-job-cuts-email-employees-2023-10">LinkedIn</a> in the summer between my junior and senior years in 2022. I learned so much. At the end of 2022, they offered me a graduate job on their business leadership program. I spent my whole final year thinking I had a job lined up at the end of college, so I didn't apply for others.I graduated in May 2023. That same month LinkedIn told me my job offer had been rescinded because the program was sunsetted. The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-tech-job-recession-is-over-when-will-hiring-reaccelerate-2023-8#:~:text=Tech%20companies%20laid%20off%20more,analysts%20officially%20ended%20their%20updates.">tech job recession</a> threw me and many of my classmates for a loop. I felt like I had the rug pulled out from under me.I was forced to go into freelancing full-time in August instead.<h2 id="ac8f227e-8f7c-46c1-a2ed-5fab06d8377c">Freelancing was difficult at first</h2>My freelance work had provided my "fun money" at university. When it became my only income, it was a shock. I'd planned to move to San Francisco for the LinkedIn job. Instead, I moved home to the Boston suburbs, which wasn't an easy adjustment.I was at least grateful that LinkedIn told me my job was rescinded. It made me focus on figuring out what I was doing. Many of my peers had deferred job offers. I knew I had to bet on myself and figure out how to get more experience under my belt.<h2 id="5e19ed15-b1ef-4c9c-9800-948d43913200">I didn't have a hard time finding clients</h2>I reached out to creators I'd worked with in university, and Kerrigan's creative strategist put me in touch with a few people. I'd ask if I could pitch them for projects and help them strategize. o help me get a foot in the door, I said I would take a small percentage of brand deals instead of a retainer.I reached out on LinkedIn to old mentors and people I respected in the creator economy industry saying I could work with them in whatever capacity.My first freelance clients were influencers. It was a good time in the market for freelancers because fewer companies were hiring full-time employees, and there was a lot of investment in the creator economy.There was a big appetite for contract work. I didn't have a hard time finding clients.<h2 id="d7de3cdb-9fae-49f3-a6c7-972cae99beb4">I liked the flexibility and variety</h2>The bulk of my work was with startups, including Canopy, an app for creators. I was involved in several different projects for them. I led influencer marketing campaigns, ran their newsletter, and helped launch their podcast.I enjoyed the flexibility. I like getting up early at 6:30 a.m. and working for a few hours, taking a long lunch, doing a yoga class, and coming back to work afterward. I traveled, staying with friends in Lima, Peru, and working remotely in Madrid for three months.<h2 id="1f572410-d847-41c6-bced-6f745930a7bb">Financial insecurity was stressful</h2>There were things I didn't like about freelancing.I'd be nervous when one contract ended and I didn't know when the next one was coming. Within two weeks, I'd usually have an email in my inbox for another job.The overwhelming reason I stopped freelancing was because of financial insecurity. It was hard to deal with. In the first six months, I was very stressed about money. I didn't want to live at home but I couldn't afford to move out with the high cost of living and rent prices.I also wanted the chance to learn new things. Freelancers are hired for their expertise and to solve a problem. It was hard to learn new skills with some clients. Companies have more budget for supporting their employees' continued education.I also wanted to see for myself the caliber of work expected by Fortune 500 companies. Working with startups, there is so much to do and it doesn't necessarily go through the same process as a larger company.<h2 id="41bbef3f-7d52-4cd7-a63e-8b00654da68c">I got a corporate job</h2>I first heard about my current job, which is commerce partnerships for NBC Universal, in January. I met my current manager while at college when I was freelancing for a startup. We'd meet up a couple of times a year to catch up and talk about my career goals. They told me to look out for a role on their team.I applied in February and went through rounds of interviews remotely from Madrid. I heard I got the job in April and started it in May, a year after graduating. I moved to New York and started working in the office three days a week.Although I liked doing my lunchtime yoga class as a freelancer, having set hours works for me. It's nice to have colleagues to speak to at the water cooler and over coffee.When I was a freelancer, I used ChatGPT as my manager. I would tell it, "Act as a senior content strategist at X firm" and ask questions. Having a real person as a manager to ask is refreshing. I like having that personal perspective.But, in a big organization, people's roles and jobs are more clearly defined. As a freelancer, seeing a project through from the initial idea to the final product made me feel like I had more ownership.<h2 id="2769337f-f5f1-452b-b0df-4f4123cf957a">I learned a lot from freelancing but I wouldn't recommend it to grads</h2>I'd go back to being a freelancer in the future. Since my first job offer was rescinded, I've been in the mindset that I have to bet on myself. But I want to expand my skill set first to charge clients more.I learned more as a freelancer than I think I would've in an entry-level role. Knowing how to manage my workload and come up with ideas for companies has helped me in my corporate job. Still, I wouldn't recommend it as a route straight out of college.Wages aren't keeping up with the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cities-losing-big-advantage-college-workers-wages-housing-costs-salaries-2024-8">rising cost of living</a> and I'm seeing more Gen Z peers take on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-portfolio-career-pros-cons-income-streams-side-hustles-2024-9">portfolio careers</a>, where they do freelancing on the side for some extra money to keep afloat.People now are freelancing because they have to.

My job offer was rescinded, so I started freelancing to support myself. Gen Z workers like me are turning to portfolio careers for security in this economy. 

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Nine <keyword id="466564" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="google-employees" source="Orion">Google employees</keyword> were arrested after protesting the company's contract with Israel.</li><li>The company fired 28 employees in California and New York.</li></ul>More than two dozen Alphabet employees who participated in office protests over the company's work with Israel were fired on Wednesday, the company said.The 28 employees had occupied <keyword id="6355629" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="google" source="Orion">Google</keyword> offices in Sunnyvale, California, and New York City on Tuesday to protest <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="c-link" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/project-nimbus-google-sundar-pichai-2022-9">Project Nimbus</a>, Google's $1.2 billion joint contract with Amazon that provides services to Israel's government."Physically impeding other employees' work and preventing them from accessing our facilities is a clear violation of our policies, and we will investigate and take action," a Google spokesperson said. "These employees were put on administrative leave, and their access to our systems was cut."Nine workers were arrested after they refused to leave the offices. Five of the arrests were in Sunnyvale, and four were in New York. Police in both locations confirmed the figures to Business Insider.A representative for the New York Police Department said the four people in New York were charged with criminal trespassing. A representative for the Sunnyvale police department said the arrested individuals received citations for trespassing. The district attorney's office in Santa Clara County said on Wednesday that charges had not yet been filed.Chris Rackow, Google's head of security, wrote in an internal memo on Wednesday that the protests were "extremely disruptive" and that they "made coworkers feel threatened."The company had 182,502 employees as of December 31.<h2>Protests against <keyword id="4811726" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="project-nimbus" source="Orion">Project Nimbus</keyword></h2>Small groups of Google employees have voiced dissent against Project <keyword id="61070" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nimbus" source="Orion">Nimbus</keyword>, a joint contract with Amazon that provides artificial intelligence and cloud computing services to Israel's government and military.Last month, a Google employee protesting the contract was <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-employee-fired-after-protesting-against-israel-2024-3">fired for disrupting a talk</a> in New York by the company's head of Israel.More than 100 people, including Google workers, <a target="_blank" rel="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hundreds-gathered-demanding-google-and-amazon-drop-12-billion-contract-for-israels-military-2022-9">protested the project</a> outside the company's New York office in 2022. The protest came after the resignation of a Google employee who'd spoken out against Project Nimbus.The tech group No Tech for Apartheid said it organized Tuesday's protest as part of its campaign asking Amazon and Google to scrap Project Nimbus. It says the tech companies' contract enables the Israeli government to surveil and displace Palestinians. The contract — the details of which became public in 2021 — drew additional scrutiny after Hamas launched a series of terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7, killing about 1,200. Israel responded to the attacks with a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/israel-killed-top-hamas-commanders-gaza-not-those-wants-most-2024-4">monthslong offensive</a> that has killed more than 30,000 Palestinians.A Google representative told BI the company supported governments in countries it operated in with cloud computing services."We have been very clear that the Nimbus contract is for workloads running on our commercial cloud by Israeli government ministries, who agree to comply with our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy," a Google spokesperson said.The spokesperson said the work wasn't directed at highly sensitive or classified military projects relevant to weapons or intelligence services.<h2>Protesters complied with arrests</h2>Sunnyvale Police Department's captain, Dzanh Le, told BI there were 80 to 90 protesters outside the building in Sunnyvale on Tuesday, with a few occupying a room in Google's complex. Sources told <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-04-18/google-suspends-workers-protesting-1-2-billion-israeli-contract">Bloomberg</a> that some protesters congregated near the office of Google Cloud's CEO.<div type="image" title="Two Google protesters, one of whom is holding a sign that says &quot;software for liberation.&quot;" height="4000" width="6000" msid="109396588" hostid="261"></div>Le said the police department received a call from Google around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday saying the protesters refused to leave. The protesters refused again when the police came and were then arrested on suspicion of criminal trespassing. Le said the protesters complied with the arrest.One of the employees arrested in Google's New York City headquarters, 23-year-old Hasan Ibraheem, told BI the protest started around noon Tuesday when a group of employees sat in the office with a banner and started giving speeches and reciting chants.Ibraheem said the group was asked to leave multiple times throughout the day but continued the chants and speeches every 15 to 20 minutes until about 6 p.m. By 6:45 p.m., he said, the remaining group was informed that they no longer had access to the building and couldn't work.The police arrived around 9:30 p.m. and arrested the remaining four Googlers, Ibraheem said. Google fired 28 employees for staging in-office protests against the company's contract with Israel

<ul class="summary-list"><li>A Gen Xer began taking on part-time work out of fear that he'd lose his full-time role.</li><li>In 2020, he started secretly working two full-time jobs and made six figures annually.</li></ul>In 2004, Brian decided that he didn't want his family to be reliant on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/working-multiple-remote-jobs-dont-feel-guilty-overemployed-secret-jobs-2024-2">one source of income</a>.He'd heard about too many people who lost their jobs seemingly out of nowhere, and he wanted to do whatever he could to protect himself from that situation, he told Business Insider. So he started looking for part-time <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/overemployed-worker-remote-jobs-declining-side-gig-extra-income-2024-5">remote jobs</a> in addition to his full-time remote role in the IT industry."We started being less dependent on one company by being employed by more than one company," said Brian, whose identity is known to BI but has been withheld due to his fear of professional repercussions. "If something went wrong, then no big loss. We just temporarily lost a paycheck."Over the next 15 years, working side jobs gave Brian the additional income and job security he was looking for. But it wasn't until around 2020, when there was one month of overlap in his transition from one full-time job to another, that he realized he might be able to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/working-3-full-time-remote-jobs-makes-344k-pay-mortgage-2023-5">secretly juggle two full-time jobs</a> simultaneously. So he decided to give it a shot.Last year, Brian earned over $150,000 across multiple remote jobs, according to documents viewed by BI. He said the extra income has helped him pay down <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/paid-off-credit-card-debt-solid-plan-2024-6">credit card debt</a> and allowed his family to take trips for up to six weeks at a time while he works remotely. He said he currently has two full-time and four part-time jobs and only lives in the US for part of the year because he travels internationally so frequently.Managing all these jobs can be stressful at times — Brian said there have been many "100-plus hour weeks" over the past few years. But he said the long hours are worth it: Last year, he was laid off from one of his jobs, but he was well prepared for it."The biggest impact has been the confidence that our family's future is not tied to the success of any one job or any one company," Brian said.Brian is among the "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/overemployed-california-remote-worker-millennial-asia-honeymoon-jobs-housing-tech-2024-3">overemployed</a>" Americans who have secretly worked multiple remote gigs to increase their incomes and job security — BI has interviewed over two dozen of these <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/working-multiple-remote-jobs-dont-feel-guilty-overemployed-secret-jobs-2024-2">job jugglers</a>. These people have made as much as <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-x-work-2-remote-full-time-jobs-million-dollars-2024-5">$1 million annually</a> across their jobs and used their extra income to pay off <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/overemployed-remote-worker-student-loan-debt-arizona-millennial-side-hustle-2024-4">student debt</a>, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/overemployed-remote-worker-early-retirement-savings-jobs-work-california-data-2024-6">save for retirement</a>, and afford <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/overemployed-remote-florida-worker-tech-jobs-cruise-side-hustle-advice-2024-2">expensive vacations</a>.While some companies may be OK with their employees <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-managers-react-employee-working-two-full-time-jobs-2022-7">doing extra work</a> on the side, doing so without approval could <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/got-caught-working-two-remote-jobs-fired-unethical-overemployment-2024-6">have consequences</a>. Additionally, competition for remote roles, return-to-office mandates, and burnout have led some job jugglers to question whether <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/end-remote-work-could-hurt-overemployed-workers-job-jugglers-2024-7">overemployment is sustainable</a>.Brian shared his "secret sauce" for avoiding burnout and his top tips for overemployed workers.<h2 id="11c308bb-192c-4a7f-a78a-f7c08446a2ec">The "secret sauce" to avoiding burnout as a job juggler</h2>Working two full-time jobs at once can be financially lucrative but also mentally taxing. To stay motivated, Brian, who's in his 40s, said he has a "secret sauce" for avoiding burnout: He only juggles two full-time roles for a portion of the year."When it starts to feel like a drain on family time or fun time, that simply means we evaluate our situation and I choose to continue with the full-time role that has the best potential to maintain our lifestyle until the next overemployed opportunity shows up," he said.While it might seem risky to drop a remote job and count on finding a new one later — especially when remote roles have <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/end-remote-work-could-hurt-overemployed-workers-job-jugglers-2024-7">become so competitive</a> — Brian said he's become quite good at finding remote roles. He said he regularly hears from recruiters and recently interviewed for three full-time remote positions in the same week.Additionally, Brian said applying and interviewing regularly for jobs has helped him stay up-to-date on hiring trends and learn about roles that he can circle back to later when he wants to take on more work. He said he's taken on a mix of salaried and contract roles throughout his overemployed experience.<h2 id="e94313b6-3c96-4228-83d0-1bd761c9d8a0">Valuing time management and staggering working hours can help the overemployed</h2>Brian said he keeps his overemployment a secret from his full-time employers. He has a few pieces of advice for current and aspiring job jugglers when it comes to avoiding suspicion.First, he said it's helpful to find jobs where employers don't require workers to have their cameras on during meetings.Second, from a time management perspective, he said it's helpful to have jobs that have staggered working hours — perhaps because the companies are based in different locations. He said this reduces the amount of time one has overlapping working hours across their jobs.Lastly, Brian recommended doing whatever one can to improve their time management skills."Build a 24-hour calendar that allows you to strictly block off the most important part of your day," he said.Going forward, Brian said he plans to continue job juggling for the foreseeable future and that he's considering taking on a third full-time gig for a while to boost his income and job security even further. For him to consider working just one job, he said it would have to be remote and pay at least $250,000 annually.For now, one job isn't enough. He just wouldn't be able to trust that his employment would last."Most roles today come with an inherent longevity risk," he said.
