National Company Law Tribunals (NCLT) across the country admitted a total of 283 companies into insolvency amid the pandemic after the announcement of the nationwide lockdown last year.<br /><br />In a written reply to the <keyword id="6355187" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword>, the Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, <keyword id="6364468" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="anurag-thakur">Anurag Thakur</keyword>, also said that during the <keyword id="45804" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="period">period</keyword> of April 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020, a total of 76 corporate insolvency resolution processes (<keyword id="1061688" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="CIRP">CIRP</keyword>) ended in resolution, 128 CIRPs were closed due to withdrawal or appeal or settlement and 189 companies went into liquidation.<br /><br />Further, the government temporarily suspended the initiation of CIRP under <keyword id="6325500" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="section-7">Section 7</keyword>, 9 and 10 of the Code for a period of six months or such further period not exceeding one year from March 25, 2020. The benefit of the suspension is applicable to all those <keyword id="6642053" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Defaults">defaults</keyword> of the corporate debtor that occur from March 25, 2020 and till the end of period of suspension.<br /><br />Such defaults arising from March 25, 2020 and till completion of suspension period will remain as 'non est' for the purpose of initiation of CIRP under the code as permanent carve out.<br /><br />The 283 bankruptcies declared the pandemic pertain to defaults made before March 25, 2020.<br /><br />Thakur told the house that 30 corporate persons were dissolved or sold as a going concern or undergone compromise or arrangement under section 230 of Companies Act, 2013 under liquidation process. Total 283 companies declared themselves as bankrupt amid pandemic after nationwide lockdown, reveals NCLT

<br /><ul><li><strong>The Indian government is mulling over invoking <keyword id="6325500" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="section-7">Section 7</keyword> of the <keyword id="6354335" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) Act, a provision which allows the central government to issue directives to the bank regulator.<br /><br /></strong></li><li><strong>The government has sent three letters to Reserve Bank of India under Section 7 (1) to seek consultation over various issues like the economy’s liquidity crunch and weak banks.<br /><br /></strong></li><li><strong>The bank’s governor, <keyword id="6375119" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="urjit-patel">Urjit Patel</keyword>, has threatened to resign if the government does not back down.<br /></strong></li></ul>The Indian government and the country’s apex bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), are locking horns over the latter’s autonomy. While the RBI believes it should continue to make decisions on its own, the government of India believes that it should have some say in how they’re handling the economy — by <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Industry/fzKfeJ9KliesX4oQ4LEkdJ/The-history-of-the-contentious-RBI-Act-Section-7.html">invoking Section 7</a> of the <keyword id="540275" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI-Act">RBI Act</keyword>.<br /><br />By putting that section in play, the government can issue orders to the central bank, which it will then have to follow — regardless of whether not it believes the move is correct.<br /><br />The central government has already started using Section 7(1) of the RBI Act. In fact, it <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Industry/fzKfeJ9KliesX4oQ4LEkdJ/The-history-of-the-contentious-RBI-Act-Section-7.html">sent three letters</a> to RBI seeking consultation. These letters include directives on how to ease the norms for prompt corrective action (PCA) and address the liquidity crunch that non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) are facing.<br /><br />In response to these injunctions, RBI’s governor, Urjit Patel, has <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/rbi-governor-may-consider-resigning-after-rift-with-government-report/articleshow/66440506.cms">threatened to resign</a>. <br /><br /><strong>What’s the big deal about Section 7?</strong><br /><br />In the 71 years of its independence, this the first time that any government in power will be using the provision. Never before has the government questioned or attempted to correct the issues of the money by strong arming the country’s apex money regulator.<br /><br />The section gives exclusive rights to the central government to direct RBI, which in any other case, does not take direction from any governing body in India. <br /><br />Even during the crisis of 1992 when liberalisation-privatisation-globalisation (LPG) was implemented or, the more recent, global recession of 2008, the government did not feel the need to invoke Section 7 of the RBI Act.<br /><br />The RBI and the Indian government have been muscling with each other due to opposing points of view over ‘prompt corrective action’ (PCA). While Indian government wanted RBI to relax the lending rules for banks issue loans so that it would reduce pressure on the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the RBI did not agree.<br />

In it he described his thoughts on Google's efforts to hire more women,&#xa0;and argues that biology is at least in part to blame for the lack of women in tech and leadership roles, rather than sexism. The memo also makes claims about the ways liberals and conservatives think, implying&#xa0;that conservatives viewpoints were being shunned among the&#xa0;left-leaning populous of the company.</span></p><p>His firing set off a firestorm as well, with some people arguing that&#xa0;<span>Damore's freedom of speech opinions were being violated.&#xa0;</span></p><p><span>According to a copy of the complaint, <a href="http://gizmodo.com/foia-fired-google-employees-labor-complaint-against-al-1797694486">first obtained by Gizmodo</a>, Damore is&#xa0;</span>alleging that his employer has&#xa0;violated "section 7" of the National Labor Relations Act, &#xa0;which ensures "protected concerted activities."</p><p><span>Section 7 is intended to protect employees who engage in unionizing activity.&#xa0;</span><span>But his lawyers are alleging it applies in this case as well. In France and Japan, where the infant mortality rates <a href="https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2091rank.html" target="_blank">are lower</a> than in the U.S., they perform C-sections at a rate of <a href="http://www.who.int/healthsystems/topics/financing/healthreport/30C-sectioncosts.pdf" target="_blank">19% and 17%</a>, respectively.</p>
<p>While C-section rates can actually be too low in some countries - where the procedure may not be available even when it's medically necessary - high rates in high-income countries like the U.S. <a href="http://www.iecs.org.ar/iecs-secure-download.php?idp=579" target="_blank">may indicate</a> "that unjustified cesarean section in healthy pregnancies is taking place."</p>
