The Bombay Stock Exchange as well as the Reserve Bank of India are in the vicinity of the areas mentioned by the Mumbai Police. The move has been triggered by the decision of a senior politician Sharad Pawar which is in the opposition in the state-- to visit the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a corruption case at Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank. The ED <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/ed-registers-case-against-sharad-pawar-70-others-in-maharashtra-cooperative-bank-fraud-case-4471211.html" target="_blank">registered a case</a> against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar -- an opposition leader in the state assembly-- and his nephew Ajit Pawar, among 70 other officials of the Maharashtra State Co-operative (MSC) Bank for an alleged fraud pegged at ₹25,000 crore.

 What are the restrictions imposed under Section 144? Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of 1973 prohibits the assembly of four or more people in an area. According to the law, every member of such 'unlawful assembly' can be booked for engaging in rioting. The law also disallows carrying any weapon in the areas mentioned and people can be detained for violating it. The maximum punishment for such an act is three years. The cops can detain people for protesting or engaging in any activity that may be considered as intended to cause unrest. New Delhi [India], July 24 (ANI): A <keyword id="4261957" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="general-discussion" source="Orion">general discussion</keyword> on the <keyword id="19908389" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Budget" source="keywords">Union Budget</keyword> and the budget for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the fiscal year 2024-25 will be held in the <keyword id="19895369" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajya-Sabha" source="keywords">Rajya Sabha</keyword> later on Wednesday. <keyword id="19956758" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="finance-minister" source="keywords">Finance Minister</keyword> <keyword id="19916618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nirmala-Sitharaman" source="keywords">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> presented both the Union Budget and the <keyword id="22525621" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-and-Kashmir-Budget" source="keywords">Jammu and Kashmir Budget</keyword> in the House on July 23. The discussion is crucial as both the budgets shape the financial direction of the country and the Union Territory, respectively. The Union Budget outlines the government's revenue and expenditure plans for the upcoming fiscal year, while the budget for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is a significant event considering the developmental needs. As per the list of businesses of the Rajya Sabha, the discussion on these two budgets will be convened later in the day. The reports were presented to the Speaker on February 23 and April 29, 2024, and to the Chairman, Rajya Sabha, on February 28 and May 13, 2024, before the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha. The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, welcomed the Union Budget 2024 laid before Parliament on Tuesday. Calling the Union Budget 2024 a 'visionary document', Sonowal said, "The Union Budget, 2024 lays the roadmap for renewed and holistic growth towards Viksit Bharat. This visionary budget is aimed at empowering the 'Garib' (poor), 'Mahilayen' (women), 'Yuva' (youth), and Annadata' (farmers) so that the process of development reaches every citizen of the country." Nonetheless, the government is trying to ensure that people have round the clock access to basic amenities, like electricity and water, with staff on standby in case there’s a breakdown. Students protest Nearly 250 students at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) have stated that they will not be attending the festivities organised at the university’s guest house. Other students in the Kashmir Valley have also stated that they will be staying away from any kind of festivities on campus. Jammu and Kashmir governor, Satya Pal Malik, recently sanctioned ₹1 lakh to organise Eid festivities in the valley. But according to the students at AMU, the money is given to buy their consent. "We take this as an opportunity to reject Delhi's authoritarianism and drama played in Parliament on August 5," they said in a statement. Restrictions and Section 144 The Jammu and Kashmir administration had eased the prohibitory orders in Kashmir Valley for the past few days for people to make purchases for Eid. And, while there have been no reports of violence on Sunday, Section 144 has been reinstated in certain areas. Even in Srinagar, restrictions were reinstated on Sunday afternoon. Muted Eid celebrations in the Valley amidst partial curfew and August 15 security

Security beefed up The state of <keyword id="23412" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-Kashmir">Jammu &amp; Kashmir</keyword> has been under President’s rule since December 2018 and now, section 144, which prohibits an assembly of more than 4 people in an area, has been imposed. "As per the order, there shall be no movement of public and all educational institutions shall also remain closed. There will be a complete bar on holding any kind of public meetings or rallies during the period of operation of this order. Identity cards of essential services officials will be treated as movement passes wherever required. However, there is no curfew in place as reported in a section of media," an official statement said as reported by IANS. The government had already deployed an additional paramilitary personnel of 10,000 in the state. According to <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/security-deployment-at-vital-installations-in-kashmir-increased-political-parties-hold-meeting-top-developments/articleshow/70524096.cms">reports</a>, riot control vehicles too have been deployed in the state. <keyword id="7948376" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="leaders-under-house-arrest">Leaders under house arrest</keyword> The state’s top political leaders were placed under house arrest late Sunday night. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to write about the imminent house arrest. “I believe I’m being placed under house arrest from midnight tonight &amp; the process has already started for other mainstream leaders. No way of knowing if this is true but if it is then I’ll see all of you on the other side of whatever is in store. Allah save us,” he wrote on Twitter. His rival, and a former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti wrote, “How ironic that elected representatives like us who fought for peace are under house arrest. The world watches as people &amp; their voices are being muzzled in J&amp;K. The same Kashmir that chose a secular democratic India is facing oppression of unimaginable magnitude. Wake up India.” Life comes to a standstill Internet services have been suspended since Sunday night in the state. Meanwhile, education institutions in the state too have been asked to remain shut from today until further orders. Kashmir university exams which were supposed to take place from August 5 to 10 have been postponed, according to IANS. BSNL will be giving satellite phones to media persons at the steep price of ₹1 lakh a piece to file stories from the Valley, said an IANS report. However, according to ANI, schools and colleges will reopen today in Ladakh as restrictions under Section 144 CrPC have not been imposed in the region. Security meeting in Pakistan In Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan called for a <a href="https://www.dawn.com/news/1498058/nsc-meeting-pakistan-to-respond-to-any-misadventure-aggression-by-indian-forces">meeting</a> of the National Security Committee to discuss the developments along the border and reportedly, react to any steps taken by the Indian military. While Pakistan alleged that the Indian army used cluster bombs along the Line Of Control, the Indian army has said it was to foil an attempt by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) to cross over to the Indian side of the border. "Pakistan army regularly attempts to push terrorists through infiltration and opens up with multitude of weapons to assist them. India, during numerous Directorate of Military Operations-level talks, has maintained the right to respond. Such responses are only against military targets and infiltrating terrorists who are aided by Pakistan Army. Allegations of firing of cluster bombs by India is yet another Pakistan's lie and deception," <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/indian-army-pakistan-cluster-bombs-ammunition-loc-kashmir-1576890-2019-08-03">the Indian army said in a statement.</a> Cabinet meeting in India Meanwhile, in Delhi, Union Minister Amit Shah is said to have held a security meeting including National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to discuss the situation in Kashmir. Other senior officials at the meeting included, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Intelligence Bureau chief Arvind Kumar, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Samant Kumar Goel. <ul><li>Karnataka legislative assembly is set to undergo a floor test after the Supreme Court final verdict came out yesterday. </li><li>Ramalinga Reddy, one of the 13 Congress rebel MLAs’ has decided to take his resignation back and vote in favour of the party. </li><li>The 14 rebel MLAs’ in Mumbai are not showing signs of any melt down and have clearly said that there is no question of stepping back. </li></ul> Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamy led Congress-JD(S) government got some relief as one of its 15 rebel MLAs has decided to take a U-turn and withdraw his resignation, <a href="https://www.news18.com/news/politics/breather-for-karnataka-govt-as-rebel-congress-mla-agrees-to-withdraw-resignation-vote-for-alliance-2235481.html">according to reports</a>. Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy, has decided to vote in favour of the HDK government. “I will take part in the assembly session tomorrow and vote in favour of the party. I will continue to remain in the party and serve as MLA,” Reddy told PTI. The move has come hours before the Karnataka assembly is set for a trust vote. In the meanwhile, a Section 144 is imposed around Vidhan Soudha area, where assembly of more than four people is banned, ahead of the vote. Supreme Court in its ruling yesterday in the Karnataka political crisis case had said that the MLAs cannot be forced to take part in the trust vote. While all the rebel MLAs were residing in Mumbai, Reddy was the only one who stayed back in Bengaluru and there were speculations that he may have been approached by the Congress for taking his resignation back. Congress also did not include Reddy’s name in the list of MLAs for disqualification saying he was an ‘exception’. Reddy while giving his resignation on July 6 had said that he is only resigning from the assembly and will continue to be in the party. Now the faith of the Congress-JD(S) alliance government in Karnataka is completely dependent on the trust vote, as the rebel MLAs in Mumbai are showing no sign of melt down. If this continues the HDK government will be reduced to a minority with 102 members after Reddy’s return. The ruling government went into a crisis mode after 16 of its MLAs from both the parties of the coalition government resigned early this months. For the last two weeks, the political crisis in the state raged on, as Speaker of the Assembly refused to accept them, taking them to court. One of the rebel MLAs Roshan Baig was also detained at Bengaluru airport and questioned, as he was stopped from taking a chartered flight, yesterday.
