If you are an SBI customer still using the old magnetic stripe debit card, it is time that you update to new card that is based on EMV chip. You can either apply at the home branch for getting a new card or you can use different channels like net banking or SBI's Yono App to apply for the new debit card. Considered as more secure and advanced, the new EMV <keyword id="6354770" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="debit-cards">debit cards</keyword> of SBI are chip and PIN based. State Bank of India has announced that it will recall all the old magnetic stripe debit cards and the customers can’t use them for transactions beyond December 31, 2019. The bank has instructed the users to apply for the new debit card based on the advanced EMV technology. Some of the compelling advantages of the EMV chip and PIN based <keyword id="4912239" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI-Debit-Cards">SBI debit cards</keyword> include guaranteed authenticity, more security and protection against different kinds of frauds, the bank said in a tweet to its customers. Also, it does not cost anything to the customers to update to the new EMV debit card as the bank is giving away the new type of cards free of cost to the account holders once they apply for it through the proper channel. As per the announcement made by the bank, you cannot use the old magnetic stripe based debit card from January 1, 2020. Hence it is time that the SBI customers update their debit cards to the new ones with immediate effect to be able to avail of the various services and transaction facilities offered by the bank to its account holders. Even if the card says it is valid for some more time, you can’t use them from the start of the New Year. The present move by the SBI follows the instructions from the Reserve Bank of India. The Reserve Bank has instructed all the banks under its umbrella to replace the old ATM cards with the new EMV chip based cards. EMV can be expanded as Europay, MasterCard and Visa as these three kinds of payment gateways are covered under this scheme. How to get a new SBI debit card It is easy to apply for a new card if you are familiar with the net banking app of SBI. Alternatively, you can also use the Yono App of SBI to submit your application or you can also approach the home branch in person to submit your application for a new EMV and PIN based ATM card. If you incur any charges for the issue of the new card, you can request for a refund at the bank by producing the proof of the charges debited from your account. Before applying for the new EMV and PIN based debit card, it is very important to check if you have updated any address change if there is one. If you have failed to update your address change, the card will be delivered to the old address which will become a hassle for you. Stating that the card will be sent only to the registered address, the bank said, "Before applying, please ensure that your current address is updated in your account as the card is sent to the registered address only.”

Indians hopeful as US Senate passes bill to lift cap on the number of Green Cards per country to clear massive backlog

After being hit by what can be termed as one of India’s biggest ever financial security breaches, Indian banks are rebooting security systems and refunding money to the customers. 
 Around 3.2 million debit card owners of banks such as State Bank of India (SBI), <keyword id="45123" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HDFC">HDFC</keyword>, <keyword id="42456" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI">ICICI</keyword>, YES Bank and <keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword> were hit after a breach was reported which is said to have originated in malware introduced in systems of Hitachi Payment Services, enabling fraudsters to steal information allowing them to steal funds. 
 
After the breach was reported, SBI had asked their customers to change the PIN numbers of their debit cards as over 6 lakh debit cards were hit. 
 
Axis Bank said some cards have been replaced and many customers have been asked to change their PIN codes. Even ICICI and HDFC Bank have followed suit and informed their customers about the same. 
 
"Banks are currently conducting detailed investigations or assessment of all the transactions where money was lost due to the financial breach," a person with direct knowledge of the matter told ET. 
 
ATMs of certain banks disbursed money on the fraudulent cards and some of these banks which are abroad, mainly in China, have reached out to the Indian banks to reimburse them the money . 
 
"Like someone has used bank A 's debit card to withdraw money from ATM machine of bank B. We will be reimbursing all the customers who have lost their money within a week, and we are talking to other banks to sort out how to reimburse or collect money from them," a banker with one of the banks hit by the breach told ET. 
 
Quite a number of customers do not have their bank accounts linked with their mobile numbers, so it is difficult to alert them of such a possible breach," AP Hota, MD &amp; CEO, NPCI told ET. 
 
Meanwhile, the finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have sought for a report on how many cards were compromised and the quantum of funds siphoned off. 
 
“There has to be some clarity from the RBI on when and to what extent is the customer liable if he fails to mitigate the damage done. Right now, it is not clear who will eventually take the fall in this case," Nishit Dhruva, Managing Partner, MDP &amp; Partners told ET. 
As per various reports, the breach has mainly affected the magnetic strip ATM cards.

 3 months extension given to link Aadhaar with PAN card The government’s latest announcement on the subject says the last date to link Aadhaar card with PAN card is extended for three more months from <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/economy-politics/pan-aadhaar-linking-deadline-extended-by-3-months-to-march-31/story/392888.html">December 31, 2019 to March 31, 2020</a>. This is the second time that the government is extending this deadline so that the users are given enough time to complete the task. While the Income Tax laws say that the PAN cards will become inactive if Aadhaar card is not linked, the extension comes as a respite to those who have not linked these two documents. Those that have not purchased FASTag will have to pay two times the toll charges All private and commercial vehicles running on the Indian roads must purchase FASTags. The government earlier extended the December 1, 2019 deadline to December 15, 2019 for the vehicle owners to ensure compliance. Failing to do so and driving through the toll lanes without FASTag affixed to your car windshield, will mean you will be paying twice the toll charge. These are rechargeable tags that will enable automatic deduction of toll charges from your linked bank account as you can avoid long queues at the toll plazas. SBI’s chip debit cards will only work in the New Year 2020 SBI had earlier asked its customers to change their magnetic stripe debit cards with EMV chip and PIN-based SBI debits cards. This can be done at their home branch.
