Tune into any bit of news these days, and you’re bound to come across the <keyword id="19978984" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="neet" source="keywords">NEET</keyword> controversy. With allegations of <keyword id="20118897" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bribery" source="keywords">bribery</keyword>, paper leaks and a dozen other crimes making for some murky water ahead for India’s future medical aspirations, there is no wonder the <keyword id="20039944" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="scam" source="keywords">scam</keyword> has been plastered all over the news cycle over the past week. NEET, which stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, is a mandatory test a student must attempt if they wish to pursue <keyword id="21099893" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="medical-courses" source="keywords">medical courses</keyword> in India and abroad. This extremely competitive exam is conducted once a year by the National Testing Agency (<keyword id="19985628" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NTA" source="keywords">NTA</keyword>) in different locations all over the country, where students can score between -180 and 720 marks. Nearly 24 lakh aspirants participated from 4,750 centres this year. These papers were found burnt at an individual’s flat, who later confessed to the crime. "Photocopies of the question papers were given to the candidates and they were told to memorise the answers. The students can check their results at the bank’s official website sbi.co.in The candidates who successfully clear the prelims examination can appear for the SBI Clerk Main exam, which is scheduled on 10 August 2019. The online exam for SBI Clerk Prelims was held from 22 June to 23 June 2019. The bank is likely to shortlist large chunk of candidates through the Prelims exam, nearly 10 times the total vacancies. The total number of vacancies is 8,653. A new report by the the research arm of the State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest bank, has a number of calls to action to its parent - the Indian government - some of which are put forth in an irreverent fashion. “Policymakers, wake up and smell the coffee!”, the report says, in the hope that the Indian government will get its act together and miraculously transform the country. There is an urgency to SBI’s assessment. It says that India has only 10 years to graduate to a “developed nation”. If it fails to do so, it will, in a likelihood, always be classified as a <keyword id="2343673" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="developing-country">developing country</keyword>. The reason? If India’s youth isn’t given adequate skills and opportunities, then the country’s so-called “demographic dividend” - its large and young <keyword id="6356897" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="labour">labour</keyword> force - will become a huge disadvantage by 2030. They won’t be able to contribute productively to the economy, and will hence, be a drag on resources and social programmes. Developed vs developing According to a number of multilateral organisations, such as the United Nations (UN) and the <keyword id="6366068" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-monetary-fund">International Monetary Fund</keyword> (IMF), developed countries are categorised as such because they’ve achieved a certain level of infrastructure or the general standard of living and are above a certain bracket with respect to <keyword id="6354971" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="gross-domestic-product">gross domestic product</keyword> (GDP) per capita. The IMF categorises economies as developed or “high income” if their <keyword id="311782" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gross-National-Income">gross national income</keyword> (GNI) per person <a href="https://datahelpdesk.worldbank.org/knowledgebase/articles/906519-world-bank-country-and-lending-groups">is above $12,236</a>. India currently languishes in the “lower middle income” bracket since its GNI per capita is between $1,006 and $3,955. Despite a slightly larger population, China is in the “upper-middle income” category. A focus on <keyword id="6355445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="education">education</keyword> reform The right to education does not translate into a right to quality education. In order to prevent its demographic dividend from turning into a disadvantage, SBI says that India will need to dramatically improved education and skill development outcomes in the next decade. This entails the reform and increased investment in government schools, which education a large portion of the country’s children. India’s education system has been in need of an overhaul for decades now. It’s a extremely large problem to deal with, and ten years is a short amount of time. Public sector banks are now introducing a third-layer to the hiring process to shun non-serious candidates. As per a recent report published in Economic Times suggests that <keyword id="6392442" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Institute-of-Banking-Personnel-Selection">Institute of Banking Personnel Selection</keyword> (<keyword id="460374" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="IBPS">IBPS</keyword>) is making it trickier for candidates to get employed in public sector banks. 
 AS Bhattacharya, director and member-secretary of IBPS have said, “We are trying to get the right people for the right job. We also intend to arrest impersonation through a three-tier examination process." The new process will now include a preliminary exam before the entrance exam and interview. Scores from the preliminary exam will not be carried forward and over 55,000 <keyword id="2905018" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Banking-Job">banking job</keyword> aspirants are likely to go through the three-phrase selection process this year. 
 For its 16,000 vacancies for <keyword id="253219" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="probationary-officer">probationary officer</keyword> (PO) last year IBPS received a sum of 14 lakh applications, which did not included posts for the <keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword>. 
 
SBI, the country's largest lender, will be the first to hold the preliminary exam. The nationalized is planning to hire 2,000 probationary officers next year and the process will begin next week, a senior bank official said. SBI has mandated IBPS to conduct the exams. 
Giving details of further hiring process Bhattacharya said, “The hiring of officers for 2016-17 will be done in October. The exam for clerical positions will be held in December.” 
 
The ET report also suggested that banks excluding SBI are estimated to hire 20,000 officers and 30,000 clerks next year. For this financial year, IBPS has cleared the recruitment of 16,344 officers, 3,784 specialist officers and 30,683 clerks in state-run banks. Banks other than SBI had hired about 1.5 lakh candidates in the past three years. 
 
About 1.22 crore candidates registered with the IBPS over the past three years only 86 lakh turned up to take the common test. During this period, over 99.5 lakh candidates signed up for employment with SBI and 66 lakh of them appeared for the exam. 
 
IBPS also conducts exams for jobs in private banks, regional rural banks, cooperative banks and other financial institutions. It doesn't plan to introduce the three-phase system immediately for candidates aspiring to work with these entities.
