Last month, India’s biggest lender <keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="13222" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SBI">SBI</keyword>) had announced several revisions that it would implement in its charges on different services. The new charges will be put into practice from today, June 1. Here’s the list of revised charges that SBI customers would have to shell out for almost every transaction. ATM charges Customers who use mobile wallet <keyword id="3458691" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="state-bank-buddy">State Bank Buddy</keyword> will have to pay Rs 25 per transaction for cash withdrawal through ATM. For basic savings banks deposit account holders, the service charges applicable will be Rs 50 plus service tax per transaction after first four withdrawals per month; Rs 20 plus service tax at other bank ATMs; and Rs 10 plus service tax for SBI ATMs. Normal savings bank account holders will continue to get eight free ATM transactions in metro cities and 10 free transactions in non-metro cities. Exchange of bad currency notes To exchange soiled/imperfect notes, up to 20 pieces and value of Rs 5,000 will be free of cost. However, more than 20 pieces will invite Rs 2 per piece plus service tax. In case the value of such notes goes above Rs 5,000, Rs 2 per piece or Rs 5 per 1,000 plus service tax, whichever is higher, will be charged. Cheque book charges In case a user wants a 10-leaf cheque book, he will be charged Rs 30 plus service tax. Similarly, a 25-leaf book would cost Rs 75 plus service tax and a 50-leaf book would be charged at Rs 150 plus service tax. Deposits and withdrawals through banking correspondents In case a user deposits cash of up to Rs 10,000 through banking correspondent, (s)he will be charged at 0.25% of the value with a minimum of Rs 2 and maximum of Rs 8 plus service tax. However, cash withdrawal of up to Rs 2,000 through banking correspondent will be charged at 2.50% of the transaction value (minimum of Rs 6) plus service tax. Online transfer Charges for IMPS fund transfer through internet banking/UPI/IUSSD will be Rs 5 plus service tax for transfer of up to Rs 1 lakh; Rs 15 plus service tax for above Rs 1 lakh and up to Rs 2 lakh; and Rs 25 plus service tax for above Rs 2 lakh and up to Rs 5 lakh.

SBI to introduce new service charges from today

For many reasons, you may need to make a stop payment request for the cheques you might have issued to third parties. For example, if you have issued a cheque for a wrong amount or if you have cancelled the order after issuing the cheque, you may need to stop the payment. If you are a SBI customer, you can follow these simple steps for making a stop payment of a cheque request. How to make stop payment of cheque request online through SBI retail portal <ul><li>Visit the <a href="https://retail.onlinesbi.com/retail/login.htm">online portal of SBI</a> for retail customers.</li><li>Click on the menu box on top of the page ‘Request &amp; Enquiries.</li><li>In the drop down menu, click on the option ‘Stop Cheque Payment’. </li><li>Select the account number from which you issued the cheque.</li><li>In the column ‘Start Cheque Number’, enter the number of the first cheque you wish to cancel.</li><li>In the column ‘End Cheque Number’, enter the number of the last cheque in the series of cheques you wish to cancel. </li><li>If you wish to cancel the payment for a full cheque book, enter the first cheque leaf’s number in the first column and the last cheque leaf’s number in the next column.</li><li>If you have any confusion regarding the cheque numbers, you can go to the menu ‘Cheque Book request’ in which you will find the details of the cheque books issued to you so far with the cheque numbers. From here you can gather the cheque numbers. </li><li>Select the type of cheque and then enter the ‘Stop Reason’. </li><li>There will be charges for making a stop request. The minimum charge will be Rs. 100 and the maximum charges will be Rs. 500 depending on the condition and amount. The relevant charges will be automatically debited from your account. </li><li>Once you complete these steps, you will see the complete details of the cheque(s) for which you made the stop payment request.</li><li>You can also view stop cheques which will give you the details of the cheques for which you made the stop payment request. </li><li>At a later date if you wish to cancel the stop payment request and honor the cheque, you can go to ‘Revoke stop Payment Instruction’ tab and fill in the details of the cheque that you wish to honor once again. </li><li>You will receive a high security transaction password on your registered mobile number. Enter the number and click on ‘confirm’. You will see a message on the screen that your request has been accepted with the reference number.</li></ul>Useful information If you wish to make the stop-cheque-payment request online, the service will be available only from 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. If the service is not available online, you will have to physically visit the branch where you have the account and make the request by filling in the forms available at the branch. Though the bank has made stopping payment requests an easy thing for the customers through the SBI online portal, there are always hassles involved in the process and you need to bear the charges. Payments made above Rs 2000 via cheque won’t attract any extra charges. <keyword id="6534999" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI-card">SBI Card</keyword>, which has more than four million customers, started charging the fee from April 1. "A fee of Rs 100 will be charged for payments made by cheque for an amount less than or equal to Rs 2,000 w.e.f April 1, 2017," SBI Card stated. CEO of SBI Card <keyword id="4651208" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Jasuja">Vijay Jasuja</keyword> said that over 90 per cent of its customers make payments through non-cheque mode. "We have observed a trend of payment related disputes arising in small <keyword id="4426951" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="cheque-payments">cheque payments</keyword>, causing inconvenience to customers as well. We offer several seamless digital modes of payment which we are seeking to encourage, in line with the government's focus towards digital payments and this step will facilitate the same," the CEO said. Jasuja added that there will be no charge on cheque payments on holders of SBI Card Unnati which is targeted at first-time credit card users and aimed at inclusion of people into the organised financial stream. SBI’s box of troubles The annual inspection of banks’ accounts by RBI has opened a Pandora’s Box where many evils came out—where the country’s largest bank has suppressed employee fraud, covered bad loans, flouted anti-money laundering rules, covered up bad loans by a mechanism referred to as ‘window dressing’, according to the report. An e-mail sent to SBI seeking answers on the revelations, did not elicit any response. Most Indian banks were found guilty of trying to hide the rising problem of bad loans. They would either give fresh loans to pay old ones or book the losses in a different year to soften the blow on the company’s financials. In SBI’s case, the RTI response reportedly revealed that these factors were seen in the loans given out to diamond trading and power sector. Loans to diamond traders have brought down banks, especially Punjab National Bank scam where diamantaire Nirav Modi made away with unpaid loans of ₹2 billion and is now in the UK. Yet, SBI is not in as much trouble, not from RBI who is aware of the situation, not from its 435 million customers --- that’s over 30% of India’s population! Like Goldman Sachs, it is everywhere and, probably, too big to fail. Flouting Norms The report says that the bank also flouted norms laid down by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) itself with regards to Know Your Customer (KYC), lending limits set on sectors and individuals. The bank, as per the report, was also lax with its loans. In many cases, the bank has not enforced securities provided on a loan, wherein assets of defaulters are taken over. In some cases loans were disbursed even before a charge was created on the collateral. And, the suppression of data has happened at every level since most of the credit problems were never taken to the board as well. Scrubbing it clean In all, the bank performed a clean-up exercise every time a new chairman took over. The first year a new chairman comes in, huge amounts are written off the books, and has become a common practice with the bank. This leaves the chairman of the bank concentrating on ‘managing profits’. The owner of the bank however is the government. And it seems to be doing its part too. As non-performing assets as a result of bad loans increased and credit growth slowed down, the government is looking to recharge public sector banks (PSBs) with fresh funds. In the latest Budget 2019, the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that they would be giving out as much as ₹75,000 crore to re-capitalise government banks, so that they can kickoff growth in the country, with renewed interest. ATM machines will no longer be working just as cash dispensers. You can pay your electricity or gas bills or buy gold coins while displaying current marketprices. The new machines will become the onestop-shop for all payments. 
 The ATM machine makers like <keyword id="845122" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Diebold">Diebold</keyword> and NCR are lookin g at the ATM machines with multifunction capabilities like cash recycling, foreign exchange, loan repayment, cheque encashment and <keyword id="19032" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bill">bill</keyword> payment for utilities, mobile recharge and DTH top-ups. 
 
At AGS' innovation centre in Mumbai, intelligent ATMs have been designed with a gold coin dispensing facility; with the gold coin being issued along with a certificate of authenticity . 
 
"We've put in elaborate security measures in place, including firewalls, server clamping, ATM shutdown, to ensure our ATMs are 100% secure,"Ravi Goyal, chairman &amp; MD, AGS told ET. 
 
Even an account can be opened with the help of the modern age ATM machines using a selfservice module. The device offers a video conferencing facility and enables scrutiny of mandatory KYC documents. 
 Instants loans with a cap of Rs 50,000 can also be approved at the new ATMs. "Cross-selling of products like granting of loans is something that is very easily doable and our ATMs have the capability. It's the underwriting and credit checks that needs to be in place from the banks' end," said <keyword id="79017" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chandrasekhar">Chandrasekhar</keyword>, presi dent-services, Electronic Payment and Services. 
 “Bill payment for utility companies like Adani Gas, BSES Rajdhani Power, Central Power Distribution, Eastern Power Distribution, <keyword id="45008" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Power">Tata Power</keyword>, via ATMs is something that <keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword> is looking at,” an <keyword id="13222" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI">SBI</keyword> official told ET. 
 
ATM makers are already running pilot projects and are also in talks with India banks. India's regulatory framework does not permit the dispensation of forex except at select exchange outlets and at designated bank branches in India.
