New Delhi, Jun 15 () <keyword id="6534999" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sbi-card">SBI Card</keyword> on Monday announced the launch of Video Know Your Customer (VKYC) feature to ensure zero contact, hassle-free customer onboarding process. This launch is in line with <keyword id="13222" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI">SBI</keyword> Card's endeavour to establish an end-to-end paperless, digital sourcing and onboarding process, India's largest pure-play credit card issuer said in a release. "VKYC launch will not only have a substantial impact on fraud reduction, but it will also reduce cost of the KYC process by nearly half," it said. With social distancing being the new normal, VKYC enables a customer to undergo a completely presence-less journey, without the need to physically interact with anyone. As per the release, VKYC process uses techniques such as facial recognition, dynamic verification code, live photo capture facial recognition, and geotagging among others, as mandated by RBI guidelines, making it more safe and secure than physical KYC process. "We are a technology driven company and have made strategic investments to create state-of-the art infrastructure, both at the back end and front end, to improve our user experience. Technology has been meticulously deployed to digitise the customer journey at every step and make the entire process seamless," said Hardayal Prasad, MD and CEO, SBI Card said. He further said that in a scenario, where social distancing has become the norm, this feature holds immense relevance for the customers. "We expect it to gain significant traction." SBI Card has launched VKYC following recent RBI guidelines permitting Video based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP) as a method of establishing customer identity together with e-sign process.

A Delhi consumer forum has directed the <keyword id="13222" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sbi" source="Orion">SBI</keyword> Cards &amp; Payments Services Pvt. Ltd. to pay Rs 2 lakh to a person here for sending him bill even after his card's expiry and blacklisting him for non-payment of the charges. The New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum comprising its president Monika A Srivastava and members Kiran Kausal and Umesh Kumar Tyagi directed the company to pay the amount to M J Anthony, a former journalist, for "deficiency in providing services". The forum noted that the company had blacklisted him in the CIBIL system of the wilful defaulters maintained by the RBI, which resulted in the rejection of his applications for credit cards from another bank where he had maintained regular account for nearly two decades. "This Commission is of the view that the SBI Cards &amp; Payments Services Pvt. Ltd. has been deficient in providing services to the complainant and though the damage/loss occasioned to the complainant in terms of credit rating cannot be measured in terms of money yet punitive damage ought to be awarded against OP (opposite party) therefore, OP is directed to compensate the complainant by paying a sum of Rs 2 lakh as compensation within two months from the date of this order failing which the sum payable would be Rs 3 lakh," the forum said. The forum passed the order on May 20 on Anthony's complaint seeking compensation, claiming that he had requested the company to cancel his card in April 2016 much before its expiry and not to renew it. He did not use the card for any transaction after April 9, 2016 and had destroyed the card according to rules, he said, adding that no payment was due at that time on the card. In September, the complainant received a letter from the company about the cancellation of his card, however, the company continued to send bills relating to the card ignoring his protest e-mails, he said. The bills were to the tune of Rs 2,946 by May 18, 2017 inclusive of late payment charges and penalty, he said. He stated that in the same letter, the company had warned him to pay the bill otherwise it would "have adverse impact on the credit history as maintained by the credit Bureau and may hamper future credit requirement". The company further blacklisted him in the CIBIL system of the wilful defaulters maintained by RBI and he had trouble in getting loans or credit card. During the argument, the company had denied the allegations. SBI Cards is down as Carlyle dumps shares but the credit cards business is bouncing back

SBI Cards and Payment Services has raised Rs 2,769 crore from 74 anchor investors, ahead of its initial share sale starting on March 2. Anchor investors are institutional investors who are offered shares in an initial public offering (IPO) ahead of its opening. Singapore government, Monetary Authority of Singapore, HDFC Mutual Fund, Government Pension Fund Global and Birla Mutual Fund, are among the anchor investors. Shares have been allotted at the offer's upper price band of Rs 755 apiece, as per a regulatory filing. There are 12 mutual funds among the 74 anchor investors, who have been allocated 3,66,69,589 shares and its value stood at Rs 2,768.55 crore. The price band for the share sale -- which would be open from March 2 to 5 -- has been fixed at Rs 750-755 apiece. SBI Cards expects to raise around Rs 9,000 crore through the IPO. As per draft paper for the IPO, SBI Cards would offer up to 130,526,798 equity shares through an offer-for-sale route. This would include offloading of up to 37,293,371 shares by SBI and 93,233,427 scrips by Carlyle Group. In addition, the company would issue fresh equity shares worth Rs 500 crore. SBI holds 76 per cent in SBI Cards and the rest of the stake is held by Carlyle Group.

<keyword id="20341279" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sbi-cards-and-payment-services-ltd" source="keywords">SBI Cards and Payment Services Ltd</keyword> has reported an 8 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 549 crore for the third quarter ended December 2023. The pure-play credit card company, promoted by <keyword id="19898108" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sbi" source="keywords">SBI</keyword>, had posted a net profit of Rs 509 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Total income grew to Rs 4,742 crore during the October-December period from Rs 3,656 crore in the year-ago period, <keyword id="20190417" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sbi-card" source="keywords">SBI Card</keyword> said in a regulatory filing. Total operating cost increased by 23 per cent at Rs 2,426 crore for the third quarter of FY24 from Rs 1,974 crore in the previous fiscal, it said. Gross non-performing assets (NPA) rose to 2.64 per cent during the quarter under review as against 2.22 per cent a year ago. Net NPA too increased to 0.96 per cent from 0.80 per cent at the end of the December quarter of the previous financial year. As a result, impairment losses and bad debt expenses grew to Rs 883 crore from Rs 533 crore in FY23. As of December 31, 2023, the card company's capital adequacy ratio was 18.4 per cent compared to 23.1 per cent as of March 31, 2023. As per the capital adequacy norms issued by the <keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rbi" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>, the company's capital-to-risk ratio consisting of Tier I and Tier II capital should not be less than 15 per cent of its aggregate risk-weighted assets on the balance sheet and of the risk-adjusted value of off-balance sheet items.
