The site also features a handful of <keyword id="2073193" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="G2C">G2C</keyword> (<keyword id="2073195" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Government-to-citizen">government to citizen</keyword>) and <keyword id="2073194" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="G2B">G2B</keyword> (<keyword id="2073196" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Government-to-business">government to business</keyword>) services besides discussion forums, impact stories/case studies, <keyword id="2073160" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Learning-resources">learning resources</keyword>, mobile app downloads, and news &amp; events. 
 <keyword id="2065138" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vikaspedia">Vikaspedia</keyword> is currently available in five languages including Hindi, English, Assamese, Marathi and Telugu. But going forward, there are plan to make it accessible in all 22 Indian languages. 
 The portal is a part of the <keyword id="2073165" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="India-Development-Gateway">India Development Gateway</keyword> (<keyword id="209592" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IDG">IDG</keyword>) initiative, aimed at offering information and ICT-based knowledge products and services in the <keyword id="2073167" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Social-development-domain">social development domain</keyword>. IDG is being run by the <keyword id="260126" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="department-of-electronics">Department of Electronics</keyword> and <keyword id="6363148" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="100" keywordseo="information-Technology">Information Technology</keyword> (<keyword id="382618" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="deity">DeitY</keyword>). Vikaspedia has been developed by the <keyword id="64489" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Centre-for-Development-of-Advanced-Computing">Centre for Development of Advanced Computing</keyword> (C-DAC), Hyderabad. 
 
So how does Vikaspedia bring value to our everyday life? Since it is a government-run information portal and not a crowd-sourced Indian Wiki, don’t expect to find interesting ‘Leaks’ here that will give you an insight into State documents and policy-making. But this one promises to be better than the run-of-the-mill government repositories. 
 For one, authorities say it is part of the initiative to <keyword id="2073175" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Democratise-information">democratise information</keyword>, leveraging the power of the Internet. And that claim is true to some extent. Earlier, fast, hassle-free access to real-time and crucial data was quite unthinkable and people had to pay for it as well. But from now on, most of it will be made available for free. Of course, that doesn’t mean that the paid <keyword id="6356198" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="RTI">RTI</keyword> (<keyword id="55120" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Right-To-Information">Right To Information</keyword>) services will be scrapped any time soon. But with Vikaspedia in place, one can access the essential information for free. 
 Moreover, the portal gives you a fair idea of what’s currently happening in the e-governance space. The section on ‘Mobile Governance’ is especially relevant, given the fact that India has around 110 million mobile Internet users, out of which 25 million are in <keyword id="6355185" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="rural-india">rural India</keyword>. In fact, 70% of rural India’s active Internet population access the Web via mobile phones while 42% of rural India’s users prefer using the Internet in local languages. 
 “As the rural landscape in India is set to take the advantage of the flourishing <keyword id="2073177" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="ICT-initiatives">ICT initiatives</keyword> pioneered by various institutions, more specifically the <keyword id="775561" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Common-Service-Centres">Common Service Centres</keyword> (CSCs), Vikaspedia offers the much required content and services in local languages that makes the difference in the lives of the people,” the site says. That essentially underlines that Vikaspedia can enter the big league as the information portal supports regional languages and focuses on e-governance services/mobile seva available across the country. The site also features a number of utility apps for free download including <keyword id="1559456" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="ask-an-expert">Ask An Expert</keyword>, <keyword id="2073179" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="SHELTOR">SHELTOR</keyword> (<keyword id="2073180" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Student-HostEL-locator">Student HostEL locator</keyword>) and <keyword id="21785" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="mother">MOTHER</keyword> (<keyword id="2073182" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="MObile-based-maTernal-HEalth-awaReness">MObile based maTernal HEalth awaReness</keyword>), an app for monitoring maternal health. 
 
 
 While launching the portal, <keyword id="409418" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="J-Satyanarayana">J Satyanarayana</keyword>, Secretary of DeitY, noted that <keyword id="71187" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Wikipedia">Wikipedia</keyword>, an <keyword id="2073183" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Information-repository">information repository</keyword> built on online crowdsourcing of content, is so popular that it is being used for official and legal purposes. Although Vikaspedia is not in the same space, it will be a single-point reference for the above six fields, featuring content specific to the Indian context. 
 
Those still pining for an Indian Wiki will be pleasantly surprised when you find a few similar features even on Vikaspedia. For instance, you can <a href="http://vikaspedia.in/register">register</a> here as a <keyword id="2073188" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Content-contributor">content contributor</keyword> that will allow you to add a new page of content, edit the existing content and create discussion topics. We are still not sure if the portal is open to <keyword id="2073184" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Content-crowdsourcing">content crowdsourcing</keyword> and editing just like Wikipedia does, but this option looks quite suggestive. Registering as a member is a breeze but last we tried registering as a content contributor, an error message came up persistently. Does it mean the feature is not currently available to the masses? 
 That’s not exactly democratising data but we feel that at the initial stage, only authorised institutions/organisations can deliver and edit content, instead of individual contributors. But even then, an interactive repository of developmental data (after all, members can still participate in discussions and provide <keyword id="154361" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="feedback">feedback</keyword>), along with easy access, could just be the first step towards more <keyword id="2073190" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Transparent-governance">transparent governance</keyword> and <keyword id="1857924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="People-Empowerment">people empowerment</keyword>. Vikaspedia can bridge the <keyword id="2073191" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Knowledge-divide">knowledge divide</keyword> and therefore, the <keyword id="2073192" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Opportunity-divide">opportunity divide</keyword>, which may gradually ensure the economic and social well-being of India’s 1.3 billion-strong population.

The investment giant had lost $10 billion in the previous quarter (July-September 2022). According to the company, the fair value of its current late-stage portfolio is now more than $37 billion. On its earnings call with analysts, SoftBank said it's in the "defence mode". For the first time in decades, Masayoshi Son, founder and chief executive of SoftBank Group, skipped the analysts' call. According to <keyword id="105784" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-financial-times" source="Orion">The Financial Times</keyword>, at December-end, SoftBank said the fair value of the $100 billion Vision Fund I was down 4.4 per cent from a year earlier. The valuation for investments in Vision Fund II was down 6.2 per cent. SoftBank said it's taking a "cautious approach" to investing in the blockchain and crypto sector. Battered by heavy losses, SoftBank in September last year announced to lay off at least 30 per cent of employees at its loss-making Vision Fund. In August, SoftBank Group revealed plans to sell nearly 242 million American depository receipts (ADRs) of Chinese behemoth Alibaba, which will help it gain 4.6 trillion yen ($34 billion) in pre-tax gain from the sale. Investment bank Jefferies had predicted that SoftBank would need "$40-45 billion of cash this year" if it were to sustain. Son had warned unicorns and startups to prepare for a harsh and longer funding winter. SoftBank Group reports massive $5.9 billion net loss amid global tech meltdown

In the wake of the detection of BF.7 <keyword id="1609796" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="omicron" source="Orion">Omicron</keyword> sub-variant in different parts of India, experts have called for diligent following of Covid-19 protocols in Karnataka, said Navodaya <keyword id="1973038" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gilla" source="Orion">Gilla</keyword>, Consultant -- Internal medicine, CARE Hospitals Group. Also called the Omicron Spawn, the BF.7 sub-variant is the newest form that has high transmissibility. This is because the new variant quickly bypasses the immunity that a person has developed through a natural infection with an earlier variant or even if the complete course of the vaccines is taken, he added. Due to this, there is an expectation that the world might see a fourth wave of the pandemic. This new Omicron variant was first detected in China and India has seen its first case of this variant in Gujarat. Initially in the pandemic, the virus mutated several times and the WHO declared the delta variant as the most severe one, Gilla said. The symptoms of the new BF.7 sub-variant are similar to the common flu and include cold, cough, fever, body pain, etc. As it is highly transmittable, it spreads to a larger group of people within a short duration, he added. "There was also a new variant, named BQ.1 and BQ.1.1 detected recently in <keyword id="2094" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="pune" source="Orion">Pune</keyword>. We are not yet fully aware of its severity as it is a relatively new mutant and we have not seen many cases till now," Gilla said. "We will wait for the government to share any modified guidelines but until then, we need to diligently follow the protocols -- maintaining social distancing, wearing masks, frequent handwashing and completing the course of vaccination. Furthermore, elderly people, pregnant women, children, infants and those with chronic disorders like diabetes, hypertension, cancer and immunosuppressive disorders should stringently follow the protocols as they are at very high risk," he added. "RNA viruses, by their nature itself, are known to mutate multiple times and that is the law of nature. Experts urge people to follow Covid protocol after detecting cases of 'Omicron spawn'

The year 2022 saw the Telugu film industry losing some of its biggest stars. The deaths of superstar Krishna and 'rebel star' <keyword id="239827" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="krishnam-raju" source="Orion">Krishnam Raju</keyword> came as big blows to <keyword id="6354765" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tollywood" source="Orion">Tollywood</keyword>, and the end of the year brought the news of the passing of veteran actors Kaikala Satyanarayana and <keyword id="306306" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="chalapathi-rao" source="Orion">Chalapathi Rao</keyword>. The year began on a tragic note with the death of actor-producer <keyword id="207378" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ramesh-babu" source="Orion">Ramesh Babu</keyword>, elder brother of popular actor Mahesh Babu, in January. Ramesh Babu was known for films such as Bazaar Rowdy, Mugguru Kodukulu and others. After his retirement from acting in 1997, he had become a producer. April saw the death of three veteran Tollywood personalities. Director Sarath passed away at the age of 74 after battling cancer. Sarath, who made his directorial debut in 1986 with Chadastapu Mogudu, made over 20 films in his career. He predominantly worked with actors Nandamuri Balakrishna and Suman. While he delivered superhits such as Vamshanikokkadu, Sulthan, Peddannayya, and Vamshoddharakudu, he directed Suman in films Bava Bavamaridi, Peddinti Alludu, and Chinna Alludu. The same month, veteran actor M. Balayya passed away at the age of 94. He had acted in more than 300 films and was popular for playing the role of the elderly and other important roles in several super hit movies. Veteran director Tatineni Rama Rao's death came as another loss to Tollywood. He passed away in Chennai at the age of 84. He started his career in the film industry as an assistant director and made his directorial debut with Navarathri (1966), starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Savitri in the lead roles. He directed more than 65 films in Telugu and Hindi. He directed blockbusters such as Brahmachari (1966), Manchi Mitrulu (1969), Jeevana Tarangalu (1973), Dorababu (1974), Yamagola (1977), Anuraga Devatha (1982) and Pachchani Kapuram (1985). In September, Tollywood lost legendary actor U. V. Krishnam Raju. He passed away at the age of 83. Known as the 'rebel star' of Telugu cinema, he was the uncle of popular actor Prabhas. In a career spanning 50 years, Krishnam Raju acted in more than 180 films. He was also a recipient of five Filmfare south awards as well as three Nandi awards. His most famous works include Jeevana Tarangalu, Krishnaveni, and Bhakta Kannappa among others. Raju served as the Union Minister of state in various ministries in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government between 2000 and 2002. He was elected to the Kakinada and Narasapuram constituencies in the 12th and 13th <keyword id="6355187" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="Orion">Lok Sabha</keyword> on a BJP ticket. In November, Tollywood suffered a huge loss with the death of legendary actor Krishna. He died of cardiac arrest at the age of 79. Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy or Superstar Krishna, as he was popularly known, acted in more than 350 films in a career spanning five decades. He also produced and directed a few films. Father of actor Mahesh Babu, Krishna was credited with introducing many new trends in Tollywood. He is known for many landmark movies like 'Alluri Seetharama Raju', which was the first cinemascope movie in Tollywood, 'Eenadu' (1982), the first Eastman colour film and 'Simhasanam' (1986), the first 70 mm film. The superstar founded Padmalaya Studio in 1970 and produced some highly successful movies. The superstar was reported to be depressed since the death of his wife Indira Devi in September. Early this year, he lost his elder son Ramesh Babu. Considered close to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Krishna joined the Congress party in 1984. He was elected to Lok Sabha from Eluru in 1989 but lost the election in 1991 from the same constituency. After Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, Krishna distanced himself from politics He received several awards including NTR national award in 2003. In 2009, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to Indian cinema. The last month of the year saw Tollywood losing two more veteran actors. Kaikala Satyanarayana passed away on December 23 at the age of 87. Known for his roles as a villain and character artist, he acted in over 750 films. In a career spanning 60 years, he worked with over 200 directors. A close friend of former Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao, he was elected to Lok Sabha from Machilipatnam in 1996 on the ticket of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He later quit politics. Even before Tollywood could recover from this shock, another veteran actor Tammareddy Chalapathi Rao passed away on December 25. He died of cardiac arrest at the age of 78. Known for his comic and villainous roles, he acted with three generations of top stars in a career spanning over five decades. He acted in more than 600 films. Chalapathi Rao made his debut in 1966 with 'Ghodachari 116'. He acted in supporting roles with leading actors like N. T. Rama Rao, Krishna, Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi and Venkatesh. He also produced a few films. Mumbai, Jan 23 () Engineering firm Tata Projects on Thursday said it has bagged four contracts worth Rs 6,000 crore in the oil and gas refinery sector in Odisha and Rajasthan.
 Of the four orders, three are from state-owned HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Ltd (HRRL) and one from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), the company said in a statement.
 BPCL's order is for its 2G bio-ethanol project in Bargarh, Odisha, with a proposed production capacity of 100 kilolitres per day of second-generation ethanol.
 The other three orders pertain to HRRL's upcoming greenfield refinery-cum-petrochemical complex in Rajasthan.

Tata Projects bags Rs 6,000-crore orders in oil, gas refinery sector

New Delhi, Dec 10 () CDC Group, the UK's development finance institution, on Tuesday said it has closed a USD 36 million (over Rs 255 crore) in equity investment in Ecom Express.
Warburg Pincus-backed Ecom Express is a tech-enabled Indian logistics company.
"In addition to network expansion and augmentation, CDC's equity injection enables Ecom Express to significantly accelerate job creation from about 32,000 employees to about 47,000 within the next 1-2 years," a statement said.
This will be complemented by a distinct focus on increasing the number of employed women in the workforce, bringing further diversity, it added.
The fund, as part of the initiatives, will work with Ecom Express to transit a proportion of its distribution fleet to electric vehicles and sponsor a road safety programme for its drivers and fleet operators, the statement said.
Srini Nagarajan, Managing Director and Head of Asia, CDC, said the company is "dedicated to responsibly investing our capital in India, with over USD 1.7 billion currently committed to local businesses".
"We have the same amount again to invest over the next few years and look forward to working with many more businesses that are as environmentally and socially conscious as Ecom Express," he added.
TA Krishnan, co-founder and CEO of Ecom Express, said the capital infusion will help the company further expand its delivery footprint in connecting towns and rural centres across the country.
"Besides expanding reach, the company plans to invest in technology, deploy advanced parcel sortation systems, strengthen network reliability and infrastructure, and finally, make development impact with job creation, environmentally responsible initiatives and gender diversity," he added.

CDC Group makes USD 36 million equity investment in Ecom Express

Prior to the enactment of the <keyword id="441445" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Constitution-of-India">Constitution of India</keyword>, the Public <keyword id="6366684" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="gambling">Gambling</keyword> Act, 1867 (“Gambling Act”), was the central law governing gambling in India. However, under Entry 34 of List II of Schedule VII of the Constitution of India, the state legislatures are the competent legislatures to make laws governing “betting and gambling”. Since the Gambling Act, at the time of its enactment was enacted by the competent legislature, it continues to operate in the territories mentioned therein, having been saved under Article 372 of the Constitution. Since the states are now seized with the power to make laws on “betting and gambling,” the states having jurisdiction over such territories may amend/repeal the Gambling Act. Most states in India have, however, adopted the Gambling Act with certain amendments. Few states have enacted their own laws to regulate and govern gambling. The Gambling Act provides that its rigours do not apply to “games of mere skill,” and only seeks to punish gambling and betting as understood in the traditional sense. The term “mere skill” has not been defined in the Gambling Act. The <keyword id="303346" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honourable-Supreme-Court">Honourable Supreme Court</keyword>, in the R.M.D. Chamarbaugwala case has held that a competition in order to avoid the stigma of gambling must depend to a substantial degree upon the exercise of skill. A competition where the success does not depend to a substantial degree upon the exercise of skill, is recognised to be of a gambling nature. It also observed that despite there being an element of chance, if a game is predominantly a game of skill it would nevertheless be a game of “mere skill.” In today’s technologically advanced world, the archaic Gambling Act was seen as inadequate to regulate and restrict the activities of betting and gambling being undertaken over online media. Several states have enacted laws particularly prohibiting/controlling online gaming (such as Assam, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, <keyword id="50015" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="nagaland">Nagaland</keyword> and Sikkim). Tamil Nadu was the latest state to join the list. The Governor of Tamil Nadu has, by an ordinance amended the Tamil Nadu Gaming Act, 1930, the Chennai City Police Act, 1888 and the Tamil Nadu District Police Act, 1859, prohibiting and criminalising the hosting and playing of online games (“TN Ordinance”). The stated object of the TN Ordinance is to ensure that innocent people do not get cheated and indulge in self-harm. Illustratively, unlike Sikkim and Nagaland which control and regulate gaming activities under a licensing regime, Tamil Nadu has sought to prohibit gaming activities altogether. The TN Ordinance specifically prohibits betting and wagering “by playing rummy, poker or any other game”. Rummy, for instance, has been held by the <keyword id="6354977" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> in K. Satyanarayana case to be a game of skill because it requires a preponderant amount of skill in memorising the fall of cards, and in holding and discarding the cards. The TN Ordinance is therefore intended to apply to all games, whether or not they are skill based. Entry 34 of List II of Schedule VII of the Constitution enumerates “betting and gambling.” Betting and gambling though different in themselves, by definition necessarily involve activities, where the outcome of the event on which the wager or bet is placed, is not within the control of the parties to the wager or bet i.e. they are substantially dependent on chance probability. Where the person risking money or valuable things himself participates in the event, the result of which is subject to chance probability (eg. ludo, snakes and ladders), he is said to be gambling. Where the person risking money or valuable things, does so on the outcome of an event which is dependent on a third person’s skill (eg. horse racing, sports events), he is said to be wagering or betting. There has, however, been an increasing acceptance that the latter kind is in fact not in the nature of a wager or a bet, as it is a prediction based on substantial amounts of knowledge, training and skill. However, once an activity is determined to be a game of skill i.e. the element of chance, though present does not control the outcome of the game, does staking money for such an activity amount to gambling or betting? Gambling and betting involve activities that are substantially dependent on chance probability, as seen above. Since the chance probability in games of skill are minimal or absent, playing games of skill for money should not prima facie, in pith and substance, be covered within the ambit of betting and gambling under Entry 34 of List II of Schedule VII of the Constitution and therefore outside the purview of the state’s powers to make laws. Exploring the possibility of regulation of games of skill under a central legislative regime is the need of the hour to enable uniformity, eliminating uncertainty and keeping investors interested in the industry in India. The tech enabled <keyword id="4331977" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Logistics-startup">logistics startup</keyword> plans to hire across roles and verticals including last-mile delivery, warehousing management, operations, information technology and data sciences. The news comes at a time when most of the companies have halted hirings due to the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic. This is as the company prepares to deal with the surge in demand for online shopping during the festive season. “During the last three months, due to the unprecedented covid-19 scenario, which affected every business worldwide, we too had put a temporary hiring freeze. However, with the situation easing now as well as the pent up customer demands induced by lockdown has pushed forward our hiring pace,” Saurabh Deep Singla, SVP and CHRO at the Ecom Express told Business Insider. Founded by T.A. Krishnan, Manju Dhawan, K. Satyanarayana and Sanjeev Saxena, and headquartered in Gurugram, Ecom Express is looking to hire people across locations including the metro cities and tier II cities like Patna, Indore, Bhopal and Kanpur. The salaries will differ depending on the role and position. The starting salary of a delivery associate would be nearly ₹ 2.4 lakh a year while for a data scientist, it can go as high as ₹30 lakh. “The salary packages can depend on a lot of factors, such as the posting location, cost of living and average market salary range for the roles in these cities — depending on the skill complexity,” said Singla. The eight-year old company says that the new hires would then account for almost one-fourth of the total employees. It started with nearly 311 employees in 2012. "As a provider of logistics services to the e-commerce industry, employees are paramount and a pivot to what we do. In these difficult times, we see an increase in the demand for online shopping across cities and we need to support the scale and size for doorstep deliveries. The hiring of new employees is driven by an unprecedented need to keep the supply chain running for the e-commerce industry and in ensuring safe and timely deliveries,” Singla added. Election 2019: BJP Candidate list from Andhra Pradesh

As YSR Congress has announced its Lok Sabha contestants for all the constituencies of the state, we see only two MPs re-nominated by the party. Andhra Pradesh has 25 Lok Sabha seats in total. The party has chosen new candidates for 23 constituencies while re-nominating only two MPs for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy who fought from Nellore constituency and Y V Subba Reddy, who fielded from Ongole constituency have now been dropped by the party.
