<ul><li>The E-Commerce Festive Season ‘22 report by <keyword id="3359665" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="redseer" source="Orion">Redseer</keyword> found that the online gross merchandise value (<keyword id="6399113" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gmv" source="Orion">GMV</keyword>) grew 25% y-o-y during the festive month amounting to ₹76,000 crore. </li><li>About 64% of the transacting shoppers came from Tier 2+ cities. </li><li>Tier 2+ cities also contributed to more than half of the festive GMV. </li><li>E-grocery witnessed a 2x growth from last festive season. </li><li>Initially seeing a boost, mobile sales slowed down, while fashion, beauty and home appliances took the lead in sales. </li></ul>This festive season saw bumper sales online according to a Redseer report, which also said that about 64% of the transacting shoppers came from Tier 2+ cities. “Fashion leads category adoption in T2 cities, led by unbranded fashion, wherein one in every five orders had a kurti or saree in their cart. Within beauty, makeup was the most sought-after category with a lot of interest in looking and feeling good,” according to the E-Commerce Festive Season ‘22 report by Redseer Strategy Consultants. The report was measuring festival sales between September 22- October 23. It found that the online gross merchandise value (GMV) grew 25% y-o-y during the festive month amounting to ₹76,000 crore . And, Tier 2+ contributed to more than half of this GMV, at around 57%. “Democratisation of categories continued this year as well, with lower-order-value items growing faster than mobiles and electronics. While mobiles and electronics continue to dominate category share, home and kitchen, groceries and beauty personal care were the fastest growing categories. Grocery grew almost two times from the last festive season,” said <keyword id="210394" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sanjay-kothari" source="Orion">Sanjay Kothari</keyword>, associate partner, Redseer Strategy Consultants. Gifting and product upgradation big purchase drivers As per the RedSeer report, sales went up both online and offline during the festival month. “Simultaneous growth of online and offline revalidates the domestic consumption story and indicates ample growth opportunities for both formats,” revealed Redseer. E-grocery witnessed a 2x growth from last festive season, as per the report. In home furnishing and décor, cushion covers, showpiece and decor accents contributed most to the growth. “From our consumer surveys, gifting emerged as a strong reason for purchase across categories and consumers reported an increase in the overall satisfaction with online platforms,” the report said. Sarees Making Their Way Into Hollywood: Here Is How

It is the first week of January, 2017 and the deadline to deposit old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 has gone long past. But the queues outside RBI offices across the country show no sign of clearing up. Towards the end of December, the Narendra Modi government also came out with an ordinance that made possession or transaction of old currency illegal. The 50-day period from November 8 to December 30 saw frequent changes in rules and regulations, withdrawal and deposit limits. Even the relaxation to exchange invalid notes given to Non Resident Indians (NRIs) and Indians who were abroad came at the last minute after a lot of confusion. 
 
Initially, Prime Minister Modi in his November 8 speech had promised the citizens that they will be given adequate options even post December 30. 
 
This explains why many say they feel cheated as they relied on the Prime Minister’s assurances that genuine cases will be considered even after the deadline. But why they chose to not use the 50-day period remains often unanswered. 
 
A lady who got frustrated after failed attempts to exchange Rs 5,000 at RBI’s Delhi office for the past three days, protested by stripping in front of the bank. 
 
Our rounds at the RBI headquarters in Mumbai showed the situation was not any different as people were tensed and frustrated. Around 50 – 60 people had gathered near the entrance. Most were not aware of the change in rule that only NRIs could exchange the invalid currency at RBI branches post December 30th. They were also angry over not being able to communicate with the RBI officials for proper information. 
The officials appeared once in a while on the other side of the entrance and let the NRIs in while the rest were barred by the security personnel. Some were also under the impression that people with a passport can exchange currencies and not aware of the clause of ‘NRIs’ and ‘Indians who were abroad during the 50 days’. One shouted in anger, “Khali foreigner logon keliye, Indian keheke fayada kya hain?” 
 
But as much as one feels empathy for those who are left with invalid notes, some of the reasons given for not exchanging the notes are quite strange. However, the fact that they came to exchange small amounts does show that most of them are genuine cases. 
 
1. Cow offering: A person from Powai came with Rs. 2,500 with the money he collected from ‘gaay ka dabba’ or the offerings given to cows which are considered sacred. 
 
2. Money found inside a folded saree: A beautician from Bandra found Rs. 20,000 kept inside a folded saree in her cupboard while cleaning her house on New Year. 
 
3. Piggy bank treasure: An architecture student from Saboo Siddik College, Byculla said she found Rs 2,500 from her piggy bank when she opened it to gather money for her college picnic. When she approached Punjab National bank, they asked her to go to RBI. 
 
4. Saved it from alcoholic son: Vijaya a housewife from Thane had come to deposit the pension amount of her mother –in – law. The latter had hid an amount of Rs. 7,000 in the demonetised notes from her alcoholic son, but could not find it until recently. 
 
5. Forgotten wedding gift: A couple from Marine Lines found an envelope with Rs. 3,000 which was a blessing cover they received on their wedding in December 2015. 
 
6. Senior citizen’s memory failed her: A 78 year old lady from Vapi came with her daughter to RBI Mumbai. Her daughter said that she was losing memory and had forgotten about Rs. 5,000 pension amount kept in the cupboard. Upon finding it, she travelled all the way from Vapi, Gujarat to her daughter’s place in central Mumbai. 
 
7. Money found under the bed: A senior citizen from Kurla had brought an amount of Rs 5,500 which he found from under the bed of his wife who is bedridden. He said he did not know that only NRIs can deposit money after December 30. 
 
There were also people like two sisters who had come to exchange Rs 1,000 which they found recently, but were relaxed even if it could not be exchanged. However, the majority of the people we met were those who could not bear the loss of their hard earned money. 
 
Demonetising 86% of the notes in circulation was never going to be an easy job. And, in a country of 1.2 bn people, there will always be late comers. But considering that such a massive exercise was pushed to be completed within 50-days, maybe the government should consider some leniency and a fresh window with exchange limits for those who were left out in the process. After all, this was an exercise to flush out black money hoarders and not the economically deprived.

Hottest Fashion Trends That Will Rock 2014

A Surat-based saree manufacturer and retailer called <keyword id="3140417" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Siddhi-Vinayak-Knots-Prints">Siddhi Vinayak Knots &amp; Prints</keyword> has filed cases against e-commerce giants Amazon, Flipkart and their sellers. The case has been filed in the Bombay High Court for allegedly selling its copyrighted-designed sarees. As per the claims, even the photographs used by these companies on their websites are the ones that Siddhi Vinayak got clicked with their model Shreya Sabharwal. These sarees are sold under Laxmipati brand, through outlets and stores owned by the company. 
 
"My allegations are that these companies are infringing upon my copyright and design," Siddhi Vinayak's lawyer Bhushan Mahadik was reported saying. "They are using my original model and images of products but selling fake copies of my products. By doing so, they have caused damage to my reputation and goodwill," he continued. 
 
The reaction from Amazon and Flipkart is far from acceptance, as they claim that they only offer a platform for these sellers. 
 
"We take the issue of fake and counterfeit products being sold on our marketplace by sellers very seriously," an Amazon spokesperson said in an e-mailed statement to ET. "If it is brought to our notice that sellers are using our marketplace platform to sell fake or counterfeit products, we work with the sellers to bring such products down from our website. In case of repeated offenders, we do not hesitate to take strict action and may even go to the extent of delisting them from our marketplace." 
 
"We are investigating this case where two sellers have allegedly been selling counterfeit products of Siddhi Vinayak Knots &amp; Prints and those products have been removed. As a responsible marketplace, we will do our due diligence checks and take the necessary actions," a Flipkart spokesperson told ET.

Flipkart and Amazon land in legal soup, sued for copying saree designs

After the demise of J. Jayalalithaa, all cases against her have been lifted, but the assets that were taken into custody are still with the <keyword id="6354780" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka">Karnataka</keyword> court. 
 <keyword id="41902" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="AIADMK">AIADMK</keyword> leaders are hoping the <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> will soon pass a judgment and release her belongings so that they can be kept in a museum in her memory. 
 
"Since there is more than one accused in the case, the trial will continue," BV Acharya, special public prosecutor for Karnataka, told TOI. 
 
He also said the Karnataka government would file a memo in the Supreme Court on Jayalalithaa's death. 
 "If the court finds the accused guilty, the seized wealth will be confiscated and handed over to the <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> government. If they are acquitted, it will be given to the rightful claimant from Tamil Nadu," A S <keyword id="838516" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ponnanna">Ponnanna</keyword>, additional advocate general of Karnataka, told TOI. 
 
In 1996, the assets that were seized from Jayalalithaa’s place, in an income tax raid are kept in two positions. 
 
Of the seized assets, 10,500 saris, 750 pairs of slippers and 500 wine glasses are in a room on the first floor of the City Civil Court. As the assets have to be guarded round the clock, four policemen are on duty in shifts. The income tax department handed the assets to the government in 2002 when the case was transferred from Tamil Nadu to Karnataka. The assets, kept in the treasury , includes 21.28kg of gold jewellery worth Rs 3.5 crore, 1,250kg of silver articles worth Rs 3.12 crore, diamonds worth Rs 2 crore and a silver sword. 
 "We can decide on them only after the <keyword id="42836" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="SC">SC</keyword> gives its judgment," said Ponnanna. 
 
The court verdict is expected in June 2017.

The festive period, which began with Ganesh Chaturthi and includes major celebrations like Diwali and Christmas, resulted in a cumulative business of ₹3.75 lakh crore last year, as per CAIT’s data. Praveen Khandelwal, CAIT’s Secretary General Emeritus and Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk, pointed out that there is a growing trend among consumers to prefer Indian-made products, especially traditional clothing like sarees, lehengas, and kurtas. Additionally, small vendors selling flowers, lamps, incense sticks, and other festive decorations are also expected to see a boost in demand during this period.

Karwa Chauth festivities to boost economy by ₹22,000 crore

State-owned <keyword id="20253046" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Copper" source="keywords">Hindustan Copper</keyword> Ltd on Monday reported a two-fold rise in <keyword id="20123335" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="consolidated" source="keywords">consolidated</keyword> <keyword id="19942166" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-profit" source="keywords">net profit</keyword> at <keyword id="22760670" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rs-113-40-crore" source="keywords">Rs 113.40 crore</keyword> for the quarter ended June 30, 2024. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 47.28 crore in the year-ago period, Hindustan Copper said in a filing to BSE. The consolidated income of the company during the April-June period rose to Rs 500.44 crore over Rs 384.73 crore in the year-ago period, the filing said. Hindustan Copper Ltd had earlier said that it is likely to exceed its capex target of Rs 350 crore for the ongoing fiscal year. The company is continuously investing in its ongoing mine expansion plan. Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL) is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Mines. The company has facilities for the production and marketing of copper concentrate, copper cathodes, continuous-cast copper rods, and byproducts.
