This list of the top 10 most-watched ads spanning the second half of 2020 encompasses advertising in six regional Indian languages and is indicative of the increasing recognition by marketers that consumers are more likely to consider a purchase when they are reached in their preferred language. Underlying this trend is also that YouTube watch time jumped 45% in July this year since the same time in 2019, with regional language content being one of the strongest drivers of this growth. According to the September 2019 Google/Kantar Video Landscape Research, 93% of YouTube viewers prefer watching content in regional languages. YouTube regional language ads leaderboard signals shift in consumer preference for regional ads online

During the company’s annual Google For India event which went digital this time, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google said that the investment will be done over the next 5-7 years. Google will invest in the following four areas <ul><li>First, enabling affordable access and information for every Indian in their own language, whether it’s Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi or any other</li><li>Second, building new products and services that are deeply relevant to India’s unique needs.</li><li>Third, empowering businesses as they continue or embark on their digital transformation.</li><li>Fourth, leveraging technology and AI for social good, in areas like health, education, and agriculture. </li></ul>“There’s no question we are facing a difficult moment today, in India and around the world. The dual challenges to our health and to our economies have forced us to rethink how we work and how we live. But times of challenge can lead to incredible moments of innovation. Our goal is to ensure India not only benefits from the next wave of innovation, but leads it,” said Pichai. Google follows Facebook – partners with CBSE Google has also announced a partnership with the Central Board of Secondary Education, just days after social media giant Facebook too had partnered with the board. Through its partnership, Google aims to enable over 1 million teachers across 22,000 schools in India. The tech giant also announced an additional investment of $1 million into Kaivalya Education Foundation to train 700,000 teachers on online education to impart knowledge to children in low income communities in India. The company’s marketing head for India and Southeast Asia Sapna Chadha also spoke about Google’s efforts in vernacular language education in India. She said that over the last few years, Google.org, Google’s philanthropic venture, has invested $12 million into companies like TheTeacherApp, Pratham and Central Square Foundation to create content in local languages. Google will invest $10 billion in India, as CEO Sundar Pichai says India will lead the next wave of innovation

New Delhi, May 1 () People turned to Google to search for ration dukaan (grocery store), how to homeschool kids and even, best trading platforms - with these terms seeing a huge spike in the January-March - as people seek ideas on how they can stay productive indoors amid the coronavirus outbreak. According to data released by Google, "near me" searches have seen a massive uptick, especially queries like "pharmacy near me" (58 per cent rise), "grocery delivery near me" (550 per cent) and "ration dukaan" (300 per cent). It added that unlike 2019 when queries like 'best headset' or best mattress' were popular, 2020 was all about 'best movies' (35 per cent rise) and 'Best trading platforms' (45 per cent jump). With a majority of users being homebound, there has also been high growth in queries like 'learn online', 'teach online, and 'at-home learning'. In fact, 1 out of every 2 consumers is seeking personalised information from brands by searching for queries like 'how to homeschool kids' and 'how to WFH' (work from home), the data showed. Interestingly, queries in the health category have recently pivoted toward 'immunity' (500 per cent rise). Searches for vitamin C, which grew by 40 per cent in 2019, have surged by over 150 per cent in recent weeks, as have queries for herbs with medicinal properties like giloy (380 per cent rise) and Ayurvedic home remedies like Kadha (90 per cent rise). People are also searching for terms like 'how to pay electric bill online" (180 per cent rise), 'electricity bill check' (80 per cent rise), 'overnight mutual funds' (411 per cent rise) and 'mutual funds to invest now' (249 per cent rise), showing consumers are now relying on online resources to take care of their long- and short-term financial goals. "As people are jolted out of their routines and forced to re-evaluate decisions that previously required little to no thought, we see dramatic shifts in how people search and what they care about. The report provides early insights on how people's needs and behaviours might evolve as they seek to regain a sense of balance," Sapna Chadha, Senior Country Marketing Director, Google India and Southeast Asia at Google said. She added that while some of these trends are likely to be temporary, they may begin to see the value of sticking with them even after the pandemic is over as people are forced to adopt new behaviours. <ul><li>India is estimated to have over 13.5 million women-owned enterprises. </li><li>These enterprises are creating employment for nearly 27 million people in the country and can generate up to 170 million jobs over the next decade. </li><li>‘Women solopreneurs’ — who mostly opt for working remotely — account for 31% of the companies run by women. </li><li>Women labour force participation in India is among the lowest in the world and is stagnating at 25% — much below the UK and the US at 73% and 67%, respectively.</li></ul>Around 20% of India’s enterprises — at 13.5 million are owned by women. These <keyword id="74945" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Women-Entrepreneurs">women entrepreneurs</keyword> also provide direct employment to nearly 27 million others, says a report by Google and <keyword id="122749" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bain-Company">Bain &amp; Company</keyword>. These are followed by ‘agripreneurs’ in the rural areas and other small businesses. But this is only the tip of the iceberg. The report believes that such enterprises can generate up to 170 million jobs over the next decade. This is over 25% of the total jobs needed to keep up with the growing population. “We have seen that women are hungry for opportunities to grow their household incomes. Hundreds of women in rural India want to learn more about doing business and many have already made the start to enhance their livelihoods. We are already running a pilot accelerator program for rural entrepreneurs from our Internet Saathi network,” said Sapna Chadha, senior country marketing director at <keyword id="45395" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google-India">Google India</keyword> &amp; Southeast Asia. Like most other contributions made by women, their role in the economy is significantly underestimated. Women labour force participation in India is among the lowest in the world and is stagnating at 25% — much below the UK and the US at 73% and 67%, respectively. In fact, almost 75% of the working age women in India do not have a paid job. Even in the rural farms, they represent 42% of the agricultural labour force but own merely 2% of the farmland. New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai on Monday announced a Google for India Digitisation Fund through which the company will invest Rs 75,000 crore, or approximately $10 billion, over the next five to seven years to drive digital transformation in the country. "We'll do this through a mix of equity investments, partnership investments, and operational, infrastructure and ecosystem investments. This is a reflection of our confidence in the future of India and its digital economy," Pichai said during the Google for India virtual conference. The fund will focus on four areas that are important to India's digitisation. These include enabling affordable access to the internet and to information for every Indian in their own language and building new products and services that are deeply relevant to India's unique needs including consumer tech, education, health and agriculture. The Google for India Digitisation Fund will also focus on empowering businesses especially small and medium businesses as they continue or embark on their digital transformation. Another area of focus will be leveraging technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for social good, including digital literacy, outbreak predictions, and support for rural economies, Pichai said. Giving a special address at the event, India's Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad expressed hope that with this new fund, Google will also focus on promoting the country's startups further. "There is immense scope for Google to deploy artificial intelligence and undertake new initiatives in the field of agriculture, weather prediction, healthcare in the wake of Covid-19 challenges and most importantly in digital education," Prasad said. "Today, India's app economy is growing very powerfully, but we must not just download apps. It is important also to upload apps from India," the IT minister noted. Google also announced new initiatives as part of its ongoing efforts towards the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. "Now more than ever, to survive and grow, every Indian business must be a digital business. And we are investing in helping Indian businesses go digital and helping Indian workers learn, grow and find better jobs," said Caesar Sengupta, GM &amp; VP of Payments and Next Billion Users, Google. He announced a new initiative with Prasar Bharati, launching an edutainment series on Doordarshan on how small businesses can adopt digital tools and adapt to the current situation, using examples of real life Indian businesses. Talking about the "Spot Platform" on Google Pay, he shared that the Google Pay Nearby Stores Spot which was introduced in March this year to improve offline merchant discoverability and to help people find shops near them to see what essential food items are in stock, has been used by more than two million users. To support people who are looking for work, he shared that the Job Spot on Google Pay, now allows for remote interviews and remote work listings so that people who are unemployed can secure employment and income more quickly during the Covid-19 pandemic. Google also announced a partnership with CBSE to train over one million teachers in 22,000 schools across India by the end of 2020, to deliver blended learning that combines the classroom approach with online learning, using free tools like G Suite for Education, Google Classroom, YouTube and more. To support underserved low-income communities, Sapna Chadha, Senior Country Marketing Director, Southeast Asia &amp; India, also announced a new Google.org grant of $1 million to Kaivalya Education Foundation (KEF) as part of the Global Distance Learning Fund. Using these funds, the KEF will work with the Central Square Foundation and TeacherApp to train 700,000 teachers to deliver virtual education for students so that they can continue learning at home over mass media such as TV and radio, wherever smartphones or internet access are not available. "Google's efforts to bring technology and thereby, knowledge and learning to students in every part of the country is commendable," Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', Union Human Resources Development Minister, said while speaking at the event. "The Internet has emerged as a lifeline during the pandemic, which needs to be strengthened and we welcome Google's initiatives like free access to learning resources, as well as their collaboration with CBSE to train 1 million teachers on tech-enabled education," he said. At the event, Google also shared updates on the work it has been doing since the start of the Covid-19 outbreak in India. Google said it has seen over two billion searches on Covid, across different languages on Google platforms in the last two months. The Google CEO on Monday also interacted with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a wide range of subjects, particularly leveraging the power of technology to transform the lives of India's farmers, youngsters and entrepreneurs. In the virtual meeting with Pichai, the Prime Minister also discussed the new work culture that is emerging during the Covid-19 crisis. "This morning, (I) had an extremely fruitful interaction with Sundar Pichai.
