As <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> prepares to organise its first-ever global artificial intelligence (<keyword id="6355999" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ai" source="Orion">AI</keyword>) summit in December, Walter Sun, Global Head of AI at cloud software major <keyword id="6358384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sap" source="Orion">SAP</keyword>, has said that the government and other stakeholders can learn a lot from companies like SAP in terms of helping provide the information they need to make robust decisions on AI. In a conversation with IANS, Sun who is an industry veteran with more than 18 years, said that the more informed the governments are on AI, the more enlightened decisions can be made to accelerate innovation without harming end-users. "The more we connect with the government on building responsible AI together, the more it will also become easier for us to innovate while talking about proper regulations for the whole industry," he noted. "We spend a lot of time talking to customers and working on the latest technologies. So governments can learn a lot from us in terms of helping provide the information they need to make better decisions," the SAP executive told on the sidelines of the company's flagship 'TechEd' conference in Bengaluru this week. After the successful AI Safety Summit in the UK, the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) in New Delhi next month will further deliberate upon the risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) -- in the presence of world leaders -- before a global framework is reached in Korea next year, according to <keyword id="205969" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rajeev-chandrasekhar" source="Orion">Rajeev Chandrasekhar</keyword>, Minister of State for Electronics and IT. As the council chair of GPAI, India is set to host the annual summit at Pragati Maidan in Delhi from December 12-14. Sun's technological journey extends back to 2005, when he held pivotal roles in research and product development at Microsoft. Notably, he was instrumental in the creation of Bing Predicts, a pioneering platform utilising anonymised and aggregated data for predictive analytics. This innovation enabled the integration of AI features across <keyword id="696988" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bing-search" source="Orion">Bing Search</keyword>, Windows, Dynamics 365, and the Power Platform. Our learnings can help India's mission to create responsible AI: SAP's global AI head

<keyword id="6354335" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) on Wednesday said it is putting in place a secondary market <keyword id="122724" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="government-securities">government securities</keyword> acquisition programme or G-SAP 1.0 for this financial to enable an orderly evolution of the yield curve. RBI said the endeavour through the programme will be to ensure congenial financial conditions for the recovery to gain traction. Under the programme, which will be for 2021-22, RBI will commit "upfront to a specific amount of open market purchases of government securities with a view to enabling a stable and orderly evolution of the yield curve amidst comfortable liquidity conditions," Governor Shaktikanta Das said while announcing the monetary policy. For the first quarter of the financial year 2021-22, RBI will conduct a G-SAP of Rs 1 lakh crore, and the first purchase of government securities for an aggregate amount of Rs 25,000 crore will be conducted on April 15, Das said. The benchmark 10-year bond, which traded at 5.93 per cent (on an average) during April 2020-January 2021, spiked to 6.25 per cent on March 10, 2021 before coming down again. In sync with <keyword id="6375573" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="G-sec">G-Sec</keyword> yields, corporate bond yields also hardened across issuers and rating categories in the recent period. During the post policy conference, Das told reporters that G-SAP is different from the regular <keyword id="475574" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="open-market-operations">Open Market Operations</keyword> (OMOs) that RBI conducts. "It has a distinct character, in the sense that for the first time we are giving out a particular quantum of bond purchase in the secondary market. Within this particular quarter, we will be suitably depending on the evolving situation and will be announcing auctions from time to time," he said. Deputy Governor Michael <keyword id="49966" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Patra">Patra</keyword> said that with this, RBI, for the first time, is committing its balance sheet to the conduct of monetary policy. "When we are unchanged on the policy rate, we need an instrument to run monetary policy. In the past, all our actions were to move the interest rates up and down and ensure that proper transmission happens across the market spectrum. This time we are being more explicit. "We are not waiting for the indirect channel of interest rates and prices to operate. We are directly committing an expansion in our balance sheet of a certain specified amount which is known to the public with the hope of ensuring orderly conditions in the market," Patra added. Giving up an amount upfront also helps market participants to plan their engagement with the borrowing programme, he noted. G-SAP will run alongside RBI's regular operations including Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF), OMOs and operation twist, Patra said, adding that the programme is built into the central bank's liquidity planning framework for 2021-22 as a whole. Das said the positive externalities of G-SAP 1.0 operations need to be seen in the context of those segments of the financial markets that rely on the G-Sec yield curve as a pricing benchmark. When asked whether RBI will announce the amount every quarter under G-SAP, the Governor said it is not a one-off kind of thing and the effort will be to continue with G-SAP. The central bank also announced that it will conduct 14-day Variable Rate Reverse Repo (VRRR) auctions of longer maturity as indicated in the Revised Liquidity Management Framework announced on February 6, 2020. The amount and tenor of these auctions will be decided based on the evolving liquidity and financial conditions, RBI said. "This is a part of RBI's liquidity management operations and should not be read as liquidity tightening. In fact, by paying a higher rate of interest on liquidity absorptions through the VRRR auctions, the RBI is indirectly expanding liquidity," Das emphasised. While laying out the liquidity management strategy for 2021-22, Das said RBI's endeavour is to ensure orderly evolution of the yield curve, governed by fundamentals as distinct from any specific level thereof. "Our objective is to eschew volatility in the G-Sec market in view of its central role in the pricing of other financial market instruments across the term structure and issuers, both in the public and private sectors," he said. This is a necessary pre-requisite for the nascent and hesitant recovery to firm up and become durable. Das also urged market participants to pay heed to RBI's actions, communication and signals in a balanced manner. "Together, we can overcome the challenges and lay the foundations for a durable recovery beyond the pandemic. Let us prepare for our tryst with our potential firmly," he added. Further, RBI extended on-tap targeted Long Term Repo Operations (<keyword id="2636226" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="TLTRO">TLTRO</keyword>) by six months to September 30. The scheme was announced in October last year and was available till March 31, 2021. To ensure continued flow of credit to the real economy, RBI also extended fresh support of Rs 50,000 crore to All India Financial Institutions (AIFIs) for new lending in the current financial year. Accordingly, Rs 25,000 crore will be provided to NABARD; Rs 10,000 crore to National Housing Bank (NHB) and Rs 15,000 crore to Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). Further, the timeline for banks to on-lend through non-banking finance companies has been extended by six months to September 30.

New Delhi, July 15 (IANS) Unicef India on Wednesday announced its partnership with SAP India to provide career counselling to young people in the country that will improve their employability skills in a Covid and post-Covid era. Making the announcement on the World Youth Skills Day, Unicef said it is collaborating with YuWaah (Generation Unlimited) under this initiative to provide digital education and occupational skillset to the underserved young people of the country. Focused on improving digital skills and life skills, the collaboration ultimately aims to impact one million young people by the end of 2022. In a video message on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the mantra to remain relevant during the coronavirus pandemic in the country is to "skill, reskill and upskill". Young people living in rural areas are particularly vulnerable when it comes to career and employability opportunities due to limited access to information, training, opportunities or the skills to participate fully in India's modernising technology-driven economy. The national aggregate on learner-computer ratio is reported to be 1:89, suggesting an inequitable access in rural schools. Evidence suggests that technology solutions can be optimized better to address poor learning levels, low retention rates, poor life-skills, and gender inclusion. Yet too many women continue to drop out of the workforce mid-career due to childcare and family responsibilities. “Organizations across sectors have taken conscious steps to create an enabling environment for women as well creating the right infrastructure at the workplace to support the growth of women. The gender parity has improved significantly, with 28% organizations not differentiating between male and female apprentices. There is still a long path to walk, but the ecosystem is definitely getting more conducive and encouraging,” told Sumit Kumar, Vice President at <keyword id="8169255" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NETAP">NETAP</keyword>, TeamLease. However, there are a few companies, including tech giants like Accenture, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and SAP — that have gone beyond the basics.

And that would mean remodelling the entire value chain from the supply to technology to the digital infrastructure. “We have partners like SAP, Microsoft, PwC, Accenture have come together to look at every single node of our value chain and make us future-ready, for Raymond 3.0,” Behl said. Most of its investments are going into technology as the company shifts its focus to a younger audience, which Behl likes to call the ‘newly grown ups’. “There are massive IT investments, running into multi-million dollar investments, which are happening currently in under-layering or re-architecting the IT infrastructure of the company.... Our point of sale of in each of these (outlets) is going to change. This is a partnership with Microsoft which again is going to consume multi million dollars,” he added.

 In times of slowdown Earlier this year, Group Chairman <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/raymond-chairman-gautam-singhania-latest-interview-earnings-outlook/articleshow/68519775.cms">Gautam Singhania told Business Insider</a> that the company was likely to turn free cash flow in the financial year ending March 2019 itself. Thankfully for the group, the much-awaited deal to sell a massive land parcel in Thane (nearMumbai has come through. On October 9, the company <a href="https://www.bseindia.com/corporates/anndet_new.aspx?newsid=b8f9b333-e7f1-4180-8af8-f47bca7e90b4">informed the stock exchanges</a> that the land has been agreed to be sold for ₹700 crore and will help improve cash flow amidst a broader slowdown in demand. Raymond makes nearly 60% of its revenue in the second half of the year thanks to a series of festivities and weddings across the country. However, this year’s festive season has been off to a sombre start. “There is a definite uptick though it was muted. This time, Onam has not been as.. because there were floods in Kerala and that impacted the sentiment to a very large extent. The Middle East has slowed down a lot versus a few years ago, and Kerala has a lot of Middle East economy that helps them spend. A combination of factors, we have seen a muted response during Onam. The early signs are looking good for <keyword id="6357908" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="durga-puja">Durga Puja</keyword>. Though it’s still not as bountiful as we expected,” he said.  The share price of Raymond had lost over a third of its market value since the start of this year. However, the announcement of the land sale has given a huge fillip to the street sentiment. The share price jumped over 8% after the statement sent to the exchanges. “The fundamentals have not changed and the stock market is a consequence of fundamentals eventually. IT major Infosys has instrumented a new plan to beat Trump's propaganda, according to news agency PTI. Infosys has been in favour of a healthy mix of local and global personnel even though hiring locals in overseas markets often pushes up operational costs for IT outsourcing companies. With the US mulling over various measures to make visa norms stricter under the <keyword id="6354484" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Donald-Trump">Donald Trump</keyword> administration, Indian IT firms have been contemplating tweaking their business models and accommodating more locals. "We are closely monitoring the overall situation with respect to visa... in the last 24 months, we have focused on increasing our presence in the US with a lot more local hiring," Infosys Chief Operating Officer U B Pravin Rao told investors on a recent conference call. He added that at this stage, Infosys has not seen any "undue things" that will impact the way it does business. "In this year, we will continue that focus. We will accelerate it. We will also start looking at developments and training centres in the US as well," he said. Rao, however, did not talk about the investments Infosys will make on the expansion. The North American markaccounted for over 60 per cent of Infosys' USD 10.2 billion revenue in the 2016-17 fiscal. During his election campaign, US President Trump had promised stricter immigration laws and protection of local jobs. Besides, a legislation (Lofgren Bill) in the US was introduced that proposed doubling of the minimum wages of H-1B visa holders to USD 130,000. Most recently, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) had come out with a policy memorandum that potentially makes it difficult for Indian technology professionals to work in the US at entry-level positions. Any change in visa norms can affect the movement of labour as well as spike operational costs for the IT players. Indian firms like <keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>, Infosys and <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> that are dependent on visas are now focusing on bringing on board more locals to comply with the norms. Once considered an industry bellwether, Infosys has had its share of challenges over the past few years. Apart from competition from rivals like TCS and <keyword id="28721" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cognizant">Cognizant</keyword>, it is also facing a public spat between founders and the Board over allegations of corporate governance lapses. Under CEO Vishal Sikka, the company has been trying to turn things around. The former <keyword id="6358384" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAP">SAP</keyword> executive has set up an ambitious target for Infosys reaching USD 20 billion revenue by 2020 with a strong focus on new technologies like automation and artificial intelligence. While Sikka himself has admitted that the goal is "aspirational", the company has continued to invest in start-ups working on these new-generation technologies. "...our FY17 revenues from new software and software- related services including Mana, Panaya, Skava and Edge grew at more than 42 per cent," Sikka said. He added that the company will report revenues on a quarterly basis from the new software and offerings such as digital, Internet of Things and cybersecurity from this fiscal onwards. The new services are also helping the company generate over USD 125,000 per year in revenue per employee.

This is, of course, being done for mutual benefits of both the majors and the start-ups.
