Jawa, presently the Chief of Transformation for Unilever, would take over the leadership role for a term of five consecutive years with effect from June 27, 2023, the company said in a statement. "The appointment of Rohit Jawa as a whole-time director and MD &amp; CEO will be subject to the approval of Shareholders and other statutory approvals as may be applicable," it added. Jawa will join the HUL board as a whole-time director from April 1, 2023. Besides the Indian market, he will also take over as President of Unilever South Asia. He will join the Unilever Leadership Executive (ULE) effective April 1, 2023. After a transformational tenure of 10 years at the helm of HUL, Sanjiv Mehta will retire from the company. Jawa is currently the Chief of Transformation for Unilever in London where since January 2022, he has successfully orchestrated the once-in-a-decade, end-to-end transformation of Unilever. He started his career with HUL as a management trainee in 1988 and has a proven track record of sustained business results across - India, South East Asia, and North Asia. As EVP for North Asia &amp; Chairman for Unilever China, he led a significant transformation of Unilever China into a competitive, profitable, and consistent business, now Unilever's third biggest globally, the statement said. Further, as the Chairman of Unilever Philippines, he led the business to become one of the top 10 markets for Unilever globally. Rohit's ability to integrate the strength of traditional markets with digital technologies and future-fit business models positions him well to take HUL into its next growth phase. Commenting on the development HUL Chairman Nitin Pranjape said: "I am delighted to welcome Rohit back to India. He has a deep understanding of the business landscape, particularly in Asia and has led the transformation of Unilever businesses in China and in the Philippines. Mehta (62), had taken over as the MD &amp; CEO of HUL in October 2013 leading the business through a period of sustained growth. During his decade at the helm, the business crossed the Rs 50,000 crore turnover mark and the market capitalisation of the company increased more than four times from USD 17 billion to USD 75 billion, reinforcing HUL as one of India's most valuable businesses, the company said. He has been a proponent of long-term value creation anchored by growth, high-performance anatomy and distinctive capabilities and introduced several transformative business programmes such as 'Dial Up the Big Q' and 'Winning in Many Indias' to make the business more consumer-centric, agile, and resilient. In order to make the business more future-fit, Mehta kickstarted the 'Reimagine HUL' agenda by leveraging data, harnessing latest technologies, and designing business models to redefine how HUL engages with consumers, customers, and the way the business operates. He was also instrumental in HUL undertaking several strategic mergers and acquisitions, including the amalgamation of GSK Consumer Healthcare into HUL, one of the biggest mergers in the history of FMCG in the country. Paranjpe said Mehta has been an integral part of the Unilever Leadership Executive and has driven the South Asia growth agenda as the president of the market cluster. He batted for civil action against grey imports during the launch of a <keyword id="6355001" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ficci" source="Orion">FICCI</keyword> report on India’s illicit market. “India is an official signatory to the <keyword id="126959" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-trade-organization" source="Orion">World Trade Organization</keyword> and there should be a civil action against grey imports. Even though the quality of packaging has improved and the supply chain is agile once again, the dark web is still being used for counterfeit trade. A lot of illicit products are also coming from China, “ said Mehta who is also the president of industry body FICCI. The report titled ‘Illicit markets: A threat to National Interests’ says that India’s illicit market, spread across five key industries, has cost India 3 million jobs. The government has suffered a $7 billion loss due to the counterfeit market in 2019-2020, said the report which was released by former Vice President of India, <keyword id="74369" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="venkaiah-naidu" source="Orion">Venkaiah Naidu</keyword>. “You can change your friends but not your neighbours,” said Naidu, referring to illicit imports from China. Counterfeiting, smuggling and tax evasion-clubbed under the head of organized crime, together comprise grey or Illicit markets. According to the <keyword id="69007" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-economic-forum" source="Orion">World Economic Forum</keyword>, the global illicit market drains $2.2 trillion from the global economy, taking over 3% of the global GDP. Size of illicit market in India The report pegs the size of India’s illicit market at ₹2.6 lakh crore. The FMCG industry, household and personal goods and packaged foods together account for 75% of the total value of illicit goods in India. The other four industries with the highest number of illicit goods were FMCG packaged Foods (25%), tobacco products (20%), alcoholic beverages (19.8%) and mobile phones (7.56%). “The impact of the illicit market of these industries on the economy is significant because of the backward linkages of these industries with other sectors of the economy resulting in a multiplier effect,” said FICCI. The report said that the counterfeiting in mobile phones is declining because of the Make in India campaign. India has also become the second largest mobile phone manufacturing nation globally in volume terms, it said. “The highest counterfeit product comes from FMCG household and personal goods with products from small and medium enterprises more. Even though tobacco consumption has dipped, its illicit market remains the same and the loss to the government is highest since it is the most heavily taxed,” said Kaushik Dutta, Director <keyword id="1493665" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="thought-arbitrage-research-institute" source="Orion">Thought Arbitrage Research Institute</keyword> (TARI). The report was prepared by TARI for FICCI Committee Against Smuggling and Counterfeiting Activities (CASCADE). Supply disruptions and illegal trade Affected by global supply disruptions amid the Covid-19 pandemic, criminals were provided with multiple opportunities for creating illicit markets. India’s illicit market has resulted in loss of 3 million jobs: FICCI

Addressing the joint annual Convocation Ceremony of Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon and Murshidabad, as the chief guest, <keyword id="169120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanjiv-mehta" source="Orion">Sanjiv Mehta</keyword>, CEO and Managing Director of Hindustan Unilever limited, urged the graduating students to temper <keyword id="119318" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ambition" source="Orion">ambition</keyword> with <keyword id="63298" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="humility" source="Orion">humility</keyword>. "The Board has approved a ₹200 crore-plus Campus Rejuvenation Plan to expand the campus and create state-of-the-art infrastructure," he stated in his welcome address. "The proposed construction plan is going to start shortly. A large Sustainability Plan is being discussed to become a green campus complying with the best global standards." Kumar said that as MDI celebrates its Golden Jubilee, it is now focusing on expanding to other parts of the country as well Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti, Director of MDI Gurgaon, said that the Institute has reached an agreement with the selected architects to add to and upgrade the campus significantly. Meanwhile, Foods &amp; Refreshment grew 3% on a very high prior year comparator, driven by solid performance in Tea and Ice-creams.</li></ul>Hindustan Unilever Limited, in its results for the quarter ended 31st December 2021 said that it spent Rs 1,193 crore on advertising in the quarter. It also said that it saw strong, all-round performance in the quarter. "Growth in the quarter was competitive and profitable with Domestic Consumer Growth of 11% and Profit After Tax (PAT) growth of 17%. Business fundamentals remained strong with handsome market share gains in all our divisions, both urban and rural markets and across price segments. Underlying Volume Growth at 2% was significantly ahead of the market," its report stated. Its Home Care segment witnessed a growth at 23% and was broad based with strong performance in Fabric Wash and Household Care. Fabric Wash grew in strong double-digits with all parts of the portfolio performing well. Household Care sustained its robust performance and grew in high teens on a strong base. Liquids and Fabric Sensations continue to outperform driven by effective market development actions. Calibrated price increases were taken across Fabric Wash and Household Care portfolios to partly offset the significant inflation in input costs. Its Beauty &amp; Personal Care segment grew 7% led by Skin Cleansing, Skin Care and Colour Cosmetics. Skin Cleansing delivered double digit growth driven by strong performance in ‘Lux’, ‘<keyword id="94301" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dove" source="Orion">Dove</keyword>’ and ‘Pears’. Hair Care had a steady quarter enabled by strong performance in premium portfolio. Its brands ‘Clinic Plus’, ‘Dove’ and ‘Sunsilk’ were rated as the top 3 Hair Care brands in the country as per ‘Kantar Brand Health Check Report’. "A calibrated approach towards price increase in Skin Cleansing and Hair Care has helped protect our business model even as vegetable oils continue to inflate at record levels. Together, Skin Care and Colour Cosmetics delivered double-digit growth and are above pre-COVID levels. HUL's Foods &amp; Refreshment segment grew 3% on a very high prior year comparator, driven by solid performance in Tea and Ice-creams. Tea continued its robust performance and grew competitively on a strong base delivering high teens 2Y CAGR. Focus on market development actions in Health Food Drinks resulted in handsome market share and penetration gains. Ice Creams had a very strong quarter delivering 2Y CAGR in high teens enabled by impactful innovations and effective activations. Foods grew on a strong base led by Jams and Ketchup. ‘Kissan Peanut Butter’ and ‘Hellman’s Mayonnaise’ innovations continue to perform well. ‘<keyword id="6595123" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bru" source="Orion">Bru</keyword>’ launched a new product ‘Bru Beaten Coffee’. FMCG major <keyword id="87377" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Unilever-Ltd">Hindustan Unilever Ltd</keyword> on Thursday reported an increase of 10.7 percent in its consolidated net profit at ₹2,100 crore for the first quarter ended June, 2021. The company had posted a net profit of ₹1,897 crores in the April-June quarter of the previous fiscal. Its net sales during the quarter under review stood at ₹11,966 crore, up 13.21 per cent, as against ₹10,570 crore in the corresponding period a year ago, Hindustan Unilever Ltd (<keyword id="44863" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HUL">HUL</keyword>) said in a regulatory filing. HUL's total expenses was at ₹9,546 crore, up 14.68 per cent in the first quarter of FY 2021-22, as against ₹8,324 crore a year ago. Commenting on the result, HUL CMD <keyword id="169120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjiv-Mehta">Sanjiv Mehta</keyword> said: "In a challenging environment, we have delivered a strong performance across topline and bottomline. Our performance in the quarter has been resilient and is reflective of our capabilities, the agility in our operations and the intrinsic strength of our portfolio." The second wave of COVID-19 brought upon us a severe humanitarian crisis. Mehta further said: "Looking forward, we remain cautiously optimistic about the demand recovery. Our focus firmly remains behind delivering volume-led competitive growth and margins in a healthy range." Shares of HUL on Thursday were trading at ₹2,446.15, up 0.50 per cent on BSE.
