Jawa, presently the Chief of Transformation for Unilever, would take over the leadership role for a term of five consecutive years with effect from June 27, 2023, the company said in a statement. "The appointment of Rohit Jawa as a whole-time director and MD &amp; CEO will be subject to the approval of Shareholders and other statutory approvals as may be applicable," it added. Jawa will join the HUL board as a whole-time director from April 1, 2023. Besides the Indian market, he will also take over as President of Unilever South Asia. He will join the Unilever Leadership Executive (ULE) effective April 1, 2023. After a transformational tenure of 10 years at the helm of HUL, Sanjiv Mehta will retire from the company. Jawa is currently the Chief of Transformation for Unilever in London where since January 2022, he has successfully orchestrated the once-in-a-decade, end-to-end transformation of Unilever. He started his career with HUL as a management trainee in 1988 and has a proven track record of sustained business results across - India, South East Asia, and North Asia. As EVP for North Asia &amp; Chairman for Unilever China, he led a significant transformation of Unilever China into a competitive, profitable, and consistent business, now Unilever's third biggest globally, the statement said. Further, as the Chairman of Unilever Philippines, he led the business to become one of the top 10 markets for Unilever globally. Rohit's ability to integrate the strength of traditional markets with digital technologies and future-fit business models positions him well to take HUL into its next growth phase. Hindustan Unilever appoints Rohit Jawa as new MD & CEO; Sanjiv Mehta to retire

The observation from the top court after it was informed that the CBSE has decided to cancel the remaining board exams for Class 10 and Class 12. A bench comprising Justices A.M. Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna asked the Centre to clarify the issue of taking the option between internal assessment and exams later. "Clarify the date of results," said the bench, noting that the CBSE will have to submit a fresh draft notification cancelling class 12 Board exams and affidavit on Friday morning, before the top court continues to hear the matter again at 10.30 a.m. The apex court also sought clarity on the beginning of the new academic year. It told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, that the CBSE is willing to conduct exams when the situation is conducive, but this may vary from state to state. "Will the decision be taken by a central authority or will the state government take the decision? How are you going to deal with that situation?" Mehta replied that the decision must be taken according to the situation. To this, the bench said should not the solution be pan-India? "You have not said when you will decide on this issue, and when you will take stock of these things. Some time frame will have to be given," noted the bench. Continuing its queries, the bench said: "What about state regional board exams... the CBSE does not hold all the exams. The state Board is also there." Mehta replied that the instructions from the controller of examinations are that exams are controlled centrally. "State boards assist the CBSE," he replied. The bench observed that the government should modify the draft notification and include the state board issue. "Clear the stand that decision will be taken at the central level and not at the state level... other courses will have to be delayed till CBSE exam results come out," it said. Mehta replied the assessment results will be published now, and if a student wants to opt to give the exam, then that will be conducted later. The top court asked Mehta to bring this on record and redraft the notification.

SC asks CBSE for more details on class 12's internal assessment and 'exams later' option

Taking a cue from the success stories of the <keyword id="428085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="start-ups">start-ups</keyword> in India, FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever too is trying to bring in the start-up culture in its over 50 year old corporate set-up. And it is the group’s year and half old chief executive, <keyword id="169120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjiv-Mehta">Sanjiv Mehta</keyword> who is spearheading this change. 
 
According to an ET report, in a bid to keep up with the changing time, the company is now approaching the market with a start-up approach, wherein young groundsmen can freely challenge the status-quo. 
 
"We want to have the soul of a small company where speed is the currency, bias for action is the norm, where people are empowered on the frontline and they are not risk-averse. In many ways, it is akin to a startup culture,” said Mehta in the report. 
 
He added that the structure was getting linear, which took into consideration the aspirations of the young people, who have adapted to the changing dynamics of the overall industry. 
 
"When the change outside happens faster than the change inside, then it becomes a subject of concern. That is the reason we continuously reinvent ourselves to remain relevant to the context," he explained. 
 
The report suggested that the conglomerate’s initiatives such as free radio-on-demand service Kan Khajura Tesan or branding millions of rotis at the Kumbh Mela with the Lifebuoy hand-washing message were all made at the ground level by young managers, who were directly in touch with the consumers in the region. 
 
Similarly, the company has now allowed the next-gen leaders to approve or reject projects, some of which run in hundreds of crore of rupees. 
Interestingly, the group has also got several India Inc leaders such as Ratan Tata, Aditya Ghosh, president of low-cost carrier Indigo, HDFC Bank chief Aditya Puri and entrepreneur Praveen K to share tips with the employees of the company. 
 It should be noted that <keyword id="44863" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HUL">HUL</keyword> clocked in a sale of a whopping Rs 31,000 crore in FY 15.

Know why India’s largest FMCG major HUL is revamping its work culture

FMCG major <keyword id="87377" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Unilever-Ltd">Hindustan Unilever Ltd</keyword> on Thursday reported an increase of 10.7 percent in its consolidated net profit at ₹2,100 crore for the first quarter ended June, 2021. The company had posted a net profit of ₹1,897 crores in the April-June quarter of the previous fiscal. Its net sales during the quarter under review stood at ₹11,966 crore, up 13.21 per cent, as against ₹10,570 crore in the corresponding period a year ago, Hindustan Unilever Ltd (<keyword id="44863" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HUL">HUL</keyword>) said in a regulatory filing. HUL's total expenses was at ₹9,546 crore, up 14.68 per cent in the first quarter of FY 2021-22, as against ₹8,324 crore a year ago. Commenting on the result, HUL CMD <keyword id="169120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjiv-Mehta">Sanjiv Mehta</keyword> said: "In a challenging environment, we have delivered a strong performance across topline and bottomline. Our performance in the quarter has been resilient and is reflective of our capabilities, the agility in our operations and the intrinsic strength of our portfolio." The second wave of COVID-19 brought upon us a severe humanitarian crisis. Mehta further said: "Looking forward, we remain cautiously optimistic about the demand recovery. Our focus firmly remains behind delivering volume-led competitive growth and margins in a healthy range." Shares of HUL on Thursday were trading at ₹2,446.15, up 0.50 per cent on BSE. FMCG biggie Hindustan Unilever's profit rises over 10%, remains "cautiously optimistic" on demand recovery

New Delhi, Apr 30 () FMCG major Hindustan Unilever CMD Sanjiv Mehta on Thursday said the company has not cut any jobs or salary of employees so far due to the coronavirus pandemic but cannot say what will happen in future.Addressing a media conference call on the company's quarterly earnings, Mehta said Hindustan Unilever (HUL) has already taken various cost saving measures but steps for the road ahead will depend on how the economy behaves after the country emerges from the health crisis."Right now we have not shed any jobs and at this stage we have not done any salary cuts, but I would not be able to say what is going to happen in the future because we will have to see how the situation evolves," he said.Elaborating further, Mehta said, "If for instance the economy bounces back then we are into business but if we get into deep depression then we will revaluate all the steps that we have been taking. We always keep options open because we evaluate everything very closely. We have to evaluate, we have the options that we can exercise in future."He was responding to a query on whether the company has cut jobs or reduced salaries of employees in order to overcome the financial impact of coronavirus outbreak and subsequent nationwide lockdown.Stressing that "the ethos of HUL is very frugal", Mehta said, "We have a very close focus on each of the lines of P&amp;L (profit and loss) and we look very closely to ensure we add value and drive value to the business."Citing some of the steps that the company has undertaken to save cost, he said activities "that don't add any value like travelling, even if you wanted to, there is no expenses incurred there"."Under the current context if it is not going to add value then why should we be spending that money. New Delhi, May 1 () FMCG major HUL expects technology adoption in distribution channel, including neighbourhood stores besides e-commerce, to speed up as a result of consumers' experience during the coronavirus pandemic.According to Hindustan Unilever (HUL) CMD Sanjiv Mehta, the company will be ready to serve its consumers through any channel that they would prefer to shop, be it big format stores, kirana stores or online."Different channels have different shopping missions. People go to a big format store on certain occasion, they go to a neighbourhood store on certain occasion but yes this crisis will habituate and I believe that it would give a fillip to e-commerce, there is no question about that," he said in a conference call on the company's quarterly earnings on Thursday. Mehta further said, "It would also give a fillip, whether it is a big store or a neighbourhood store, to adopt technology and serve consumer better. I believe that from a perspective of a distribution channel, this is certainly a moment where adoption of technology would speed up."Commenting on consumer habits during the CODIV-19-induced lockdown, he said there are two big emerging trends."One is the relevance of humble grocers, who are always important for India. I believe that people have realised their benefits .. and the second is e-commerce. HUL expects lockdown to accelerate technology adoption in distribution channel

The company had posted a consolidated net profit of ₹1,938 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal, HUL said in a regulatory filing. The company's consolidated <keyword id="474440" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="total-income">total income</keyword> stood at ₹12,542 crore, as against ₹12,235 crore in the year-ago period. For the fiscal 2020-21, the company said its consolidated net profit was at ₹7,999 crore, as compared to ₹6,756 crore in 2019-20, a growth of 18 per cent. Consolidated total income for FY21 was at ₹47,438 crore, as against ₹40,415 crore in <keyword id="2708116" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="FY20">FY20</keyword>, the company said. "Our in-quarter performance was strong on both the top-line and bottom-line. Despite challenging times, in FY'21 our business ecosystem has withstood the disruption and demonstrated agility and resilience across the value chain," HUL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Mehta said. He further said, "we have delivered on our multi-stakeholder business model. Our purpose-led brands and capabilities were further strengthened during the year and this positions us well to serve our consumers during this turbulent period." Hindustan Unilever saw a 13% rise in Q4 net profit at ₹2,190 crore

Although the company reported 9% year-on-year growth in net profit to ₹2,187 crore as against ₹2,009 crore in the same quarter last year, investors were disappointed on lower than expected volume growth. The company delivered 4% year-on-year volume growth in the July-September quarter lower than estimates of 5-7%. Food segment that includes products like Horlicks, Kissan, Bru, Kwality Wall’s saw a slowdown in revenue growth. Food segment grew only 7% in the September quarter as against 12% in the June quarter. Horlicks and Boost maker HUL sees slowdown in food segment in the last three months

<ul><li><keyword id="44863" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hul" source="Orion">HUL</keyword> in its result said that its growth in the quarter was competitive and profitable with Domestic Consumer Growth of 11% and Profit After Tax (PAT) growth of 17%. </li><li>While its Home Care segment grew at 23%, Beauty &amp; Personal Care grew 7% led by Skin Cleansing, Skin Care and Colour Cosmetics. Meanwhile, Foods &amp; Refreshment grew 3% on a very high prior year comparator, driven by solid performance in Tea and Ice-creams.</li></ul>Hindustan Unilever Limited, in its results for the quarter ended 31st December 2021 said that it spent Rs 1,193 crore on advertising in the quarter. It also said that it saw strong, all-round performance in the quarter. "Growth in the quarter was competitive and profitable with Domestic Consumer Growth of 11% and Profit After Tax (PAT) growth of 17%. Business fundamentals remained strong with handsome market share gains in all our divisions, both urban and rural markets and across price segments. Underlying Volume Growth at 2% was significantly ahead of the market," its report stated. Its Home Care segment witnessed a growth at 23% and was broad based with strong performance in Fabric Wash and Household Care. Fabric Wash grew in strong double-digits with all parts of the portfolio performing well. Household Care sustained its robust performance and grew in high teens on a strong base. Liquids and Fabric Sensations continue to outperform driven by effective market development actions. Calibrated price increases were taken across Fabric Wash and Household Care portfolios to partly offset the significant inflation in input costs. Its Beauty &amp; Personal Care segment grew 7% led by Skin Cleansing, Skin Care and Colour Cosmetics. Skin Cleansing delivered double digit growth driven by strong performance in ‘Lux’, ‘<keyword id="94301" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dove" source="Orion">Dove</keyword>’ and ‘Pears’. Hair Care had a steady quarter enabled by strong performance in premium portfolio. Its brands ‘Clinic Plus’, ‘Dove’ and ‘Sunsilk’ were rated as the top 3 Hair Care brands in the country as per ‘Kantar Brand Health Check Report’. "A calibrated approach towards price increase in Skin Cleansing and Hair Care has helped protect our business model even as vegetable oils continue to inflate at record levels. Together, Skin Care and Colour Cosmetics delivered double-digit growth and are above pre-COVID levels. During this quarter, we had several innovations including ‘Dove Love and Care’ range of moisturizers, serums by clean beauty brand ‘Simple’, a new toothpaste ‘Sensitive Mineral Active’ launched in Tamil Nadu and ‘Lakme’ Volume Mascara, Liquid Concealer and Highlighter," the report further stated. HUL's Foods &amp; Refreshment segment grew 3% on a very high prior year comparator, driven by solid performance in Tea and Ice-creams. Tea continued its robust performance and grew competitively on a strong base delivering high teens 2Y CAGR. Focus on market development actions in Health Food Drinks resulted in handsome market share and penetration gains. Ice Creams had a very strong quarter delivering 2Y CAGR in high teens enabled by impactful innovations and effective activations. Foods grew on a strong base led by Jams and Ketchup. ‘Kissan Peanut Butter’ and ‘Hellman’s Mayonnaise’ innovations continue to perform well. ‘<keyword id="6595123" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bru" source="Orion">Bru</keyword>’ launched a new product ‘Bru Beaten Coffee’. Its EBITDA margin at 25.4% improved 100 bps YoY. PAT at Rs. 2,243 Crores increased by 17% year-on-year. Profit after tax before exceptional items at Rs 2,292 Crores was up 17%. "In the context of unprecedented inflation, we continue to manage our business dynamically driving savings harder across all lines of P&amp;L and taking calibrated pricing actions using the principles of Net Revenue Management. We continue to invest competitively behind our brands," the report stated.
