Sanjiv Goenka makes a billion dollar comeback to the world's biggest T20 stage

The Indian cricket board will be expecting the two new <keyword id="6354312" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL" source="Orion">IPL</keyword> franchises to go for Rs 7000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore each after the bidding process begins here on Monday. It is still not clear whether the BCCI will announce the successful bidders on Monday itself after doing the technical evaluation of the bids. There are 22 companies which have picked up tender document worth Rs 10 lakh but with base price for new teams pegged at INR 2000 crore, there is expected to be only five to six serious bidders in fray. The BCCI is also allowing a consortium of up to three companies/individuals to bid for a franchise. However, in case of an individual or company, that particular entity's annual turnover should be minimum INR 3000 crore and in case of consortium, each of the three entities should have an annual turnover of INR 2500 crore. In this scenario, one of India's richest business tycoon <keyword id="111343" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gautam-adani" source="Orion">Gautam Adani</keyword> and his Adani Group are expected to bid for the Ahmedabad franchise. Adani Group, if they finally put up a bid, are the favourites to own a new franchise. Similarly, RPSG group which is headlined by billionaire Sanjiv Goenka are also considered to be serious bidders for a new franchise. Whether RPSG would have any individual or other company as a part of consortium is still not known. "Gautam Adani and Sanjiv Goenka are the biggest names in the Indian industry. They will be serious bidders. Expect a minimum bid of INR 3500 crore from the potential bidders. Don't forget that IPL broadcast rights is projected around USD 5 billion (Rs 36,000 Crore). "So the economics will work accordingly as franchises get the TV revenue share equally," a BCCI insider tracking the developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity. Q) How has roping in Virat pretty early in your brand journey helped you build your brand image? We realized rather early on in our journey that to succeed in the healthy snacking category, we would need an influencer. With influencers picking only brands and causes that they support and can get behind, consumers take their opinions into consideration before making a purchase. For us, making Virat our health ambassador helped us successfully reach our target audience and convey the right message. Virat’s personality matches that of our brand and hence our consumers get the right idea. We make sure to rope in our health ambassador in most, if not all our communications with our consumers. Additionally, since he is an inspirational personality representing the most-loved sport of our country and falls within the target age bracket, the match seemed ideal. Being an inspiration to the youth of the country, Virat is admired for his fitness regime and healthy lifestyle. Keeping this in mind, when youngsters look at Virat endorsing and enjoying our brand, they immediately associate it to health and wellness. Our latest ad campaign built around the new flavours shows Virat satisfying his cravings by opening a pack of Too Yumm! Hence, making Too Yumm! an aspirational product for the millennial generation by default. Q) Are there any new categories that Too Yumm! is currently looking at entering? Our next aim is to expand our presence among kids. Since we have already established ourselves in the healthy snacking category and have the parents’ trust on our side, we believe now would be the right time to provide a greater variety of offerings to the children. Q) How was 2019 for brand Too Yumm? Can you share some growth figures? What are your targets for 2020, and how do you aim to achieve these numbers? 2019 has been a good year for us overall. We stayed true to the core of ‘Health’ for our brand and entrenched it further with the genres relevant to us – like sports, travel, music, humour, and health; associated with platforms such as Kumbh, IPL, Karare Strikers gaming, Amazon Prime – Inside Edge Season 2, Mughl-e-azam. In 2019, we also became the first and only FMCG brand to set a Guinness World Record at the Kumbh Mela 2019 by lighting the world’s largest diya as a symbol of good health. Q) How critical a role will your FMCG offerings play in RP <keyword id="6355523" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanjiv-goenka">Sanjiv Goenka</keyword> Group’s overall growth? FMCG is just in its third year from a start-up; and in the very large RPSG group it’s a rather late entrant and small contributor currently. However it’s one of the most disruptive initiatives within the group that has a large vision and ambition for FMCG play with a very strong focus for the future. Q) What’s your primary media mix? We have a healthy media mix but a larger share of our communication is through TV and digital platforms as that provides us with requisite width to reach and engage our consumers. Q) Going ahead, what will be your broad marketing strategy to grow the brand further and capture a bigger market share? Our marketing strategy is more or less the same to reach our target audience – to provide our consumers with healthy yet tasty options for guilt free bingeing.

Having established itself in the healthy snacking category, Too Yumm! to foray into kid’s category soon

Kolkata, <keyword id="13839" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gautam-Gambhir" source="Orion">Gautam Gambhir</keyword> on Wednesday was named 'Mentor' of Shah Rukh Khan-owned-Kolkata Knight Riders, an IPL franchise that won its two championships under his able leadership back in 2012 and 2014. Gambhir, the hero of India's T20 and 50 over World Cup victories, had led KKR from 2011 to 2017 before parting ways and for the past two seasons was at helm of Lucknow Super Giants as their 'Mentor. Lucknow qualified for play-offs during both seasons but were unable to go the distance which prompted the franchise to bring in former Australian opener and T20 World Cup winning coach Justin Langer. Once the Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise roped in Langer, Gambhir's exit was always on the cards. While both LSG and Gambhir vehemently denied the move for longest time, a lengthy meeting in Bollywood superstar's Mumbai home had created a lot of buzz about his apparent move, which finally turned into a reality. Venky Mysore, the all-powerful CEO of KKR, announced that Gambhir will join hands with head coach Chandrakant Pandit. "I am not an emotional person and not many things move me. But this is different. This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again," Gambhir was quoted as saying in a press note issued by franchise. "I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the 'City of Joy'. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR," the former India KKR's principal Shah Rukh Khan said: "Gautam has always been part of the family and this is our 'Captain' coming back home in a different avatar as a "Mentor". Gautam Gambhir returns to Kolkata Knight Riders as 'Mentor'

This is the first time that the 35-year-old, who had stepped down from Team India captaincy on his own terms in all formats, has been removed from the top position. 
 
The decision comes a day before the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Dhonis-daughter-just-did-a-photoshoot-and-its-cutenessoverloaded/articleshow/55924984.cms">players' auctions</a> scheduled to be held in <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword>. 
 "I have the highest regard for MS Dhoni as a leader and a person. Dhoni continues to be an integral member of our team. He is supportive of the decision keeping the franchise's best interests in mind," <keyword id="7812" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Goenka">Goenka</keyword> added. 
 
The most expensive player of the tournament that began in 2008, Dhoni also has been among the most successful.

 He was the first one picked in the only draft held in the IPL, in December 2015, after Chennai and <keyword id="13802" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajasthan-Royals">Rajasthan Royals</keyword> were suspended for two years and two new franchises -- Pune and <keyword id="1641060" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat-lions">Gujarat Lions</keyword> -- were given the option of choosing up to five players each. 
 
He has been with the Pune franchise ever since. The man replacing him in the leadership role, the 27-year-old Smith, is currently the captain of the Australian crickteam in all three formats. 
 
He was appointed Test captain in 2014/15 and he took over the ODI captaincy reigns after the 2015 World Cup. 
 
Pune, who were one of the two teams along with Gujarat Lions to be inducted last season in place of the the suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, were plagued with injury issues. 
 They just about avoided the wooden spoon to finish ahead of <keyword id="13883" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kings-XI-Punjab">Kings XI Punjab</keyword> at the seventh place in the eight-team standings of IPL 2015.

The source, who has dealt with the financial side of IPL in the past, said that the BCCI stands to gain at least ₹5000 crore if the <keyword id="48985" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bids" source="Orion">bids</keyword> go as per plan with plenty of large business conglomerates showing active interest in bidding. "The BCCI is expecting anything in the range of 5000 crore if not more. There will be 74 IPL games next season and it's a win-win situation for everyone." It is learnt that only companies with an annual turnover of ₹3000 crore will be allowed to bid for the teams. In a welcome news, the BCCI is planning to allow a consortium to bid for teams as it makes the bidding process more vibrant. "I think more than three business entities won't be allowed to form a consortium but if three business come together and wants to jointly bid for a team, they are welcome to do so," he said. Among the venues where the teams could be based include Amedabad, Lucknow and Pune. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, with bigger capacities, could be the choice for franchises. Some of the big companies in India are keen on buying a team in the Indian Premier League (<keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword>) after the <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> banned Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and <keyword id="13802" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rajasthan-Royals">Rajasthan Royals</keyword> (RR) on Tuesday from participating in the game. 

	This move provides room for the induction of two more teams in the next edition of IPL, reported ToI.
 

	The IPL is the richest of the world's Twenty20 cricket leagues.
 The expected list of names are: Gautam Adani, <keyword id="2742230" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Adani-Group-chairman">Adani group chairman</keyword>, <keyword id="52673" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="harsh-goenka">Harsh Goenka</keyword>, RPG group chairman, Sajjan Jindal, chairman JSW, <keyword id="7025" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Venugopal-Dhoot">Venugopal Dhoot</keyword>, Videocon group chairman, besides others such as Prasad Potluri of South-based PVP Ventures and the Munjals of Hero group. Confirming the development Harsh Goenka told ToI, that honour was restored to the gentleman's game with corruption getting clean bowled by the apex court’s verdict. "The league remains an interesting investment opportunity. If <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> auctions a franchise, I will consider it only if the valuations are considerable." 

	Moreover, the valuations of the IPL teams have come down considerably due to a series of corruption. According to experts, the new teams are likely to be bought for less than $100 million.
 Venugopal Dhoot, one of the key sponsors of Mukesh Ambani-owned <keyword id="13880" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mumbai-Indians">Mumbai Indians</keyword>, is also keen on buying a team. "We will definitely look at bidding for an IPL franchise as and when BCCI calls for bid. We spend crores in branding exercise and owning an IPL team would be a great idea," he said. 

	The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might want to revive the Pune and Kochi teams. However, launching a new team for Ahmedabad may not be ruled out, according to sources. 
 

	In that case Gautam Adani may be a key contender to buy the Ahmedabad team as the billionaire businessman had once dreamt of owning an IPL team for his home state. 
 "The idea of having an Ahmedabad team would be great as it would draw lots of interest from corporates for being the home state of Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>," said an industry leader. 

	Sajjan Jindal is another top contender to own an IPL team. "Cricket is the number one sport in our country so there is an idea to acquire a team... an IPL team. But, I cannot comment which team would it be," Jindal, JSW group chairman said earlier this month.
 He did not confirm or deny if he wanted to buy <keyword id="12643" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Royal-Challengers">Royal Challengers</keyword> Bangalore (RCB), owned by liquor baron <keyword id="14678" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vijay-Mallya">Vijay Mallya</keyword>. 

	JSW Sports, a JSW Group owned firm, is the owner of Bengaluru FC, one of the I-league teams led by Indian football team's captain Sunil Chhetri.

New Delhi, Dec 19 () India Inc leaders, including Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, CII President Vikram Kirloskar and Assocham President Balkrishna Goenka, on Thursday asked the government to take measures to augment ease of doing business to "create more freedom for the industry to perform".
 In a pre-Budget meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the corporate leaders highlighted several issues, including certain income tax matters which were coming in the way of mergers and acquisitions or slowing them down and roles that need to be played by state businesses to prosper at the ground level.
 "I have come here today to discuss only one thing -- make doing business easy in the country. That was what my thrust was," Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal told reporters after the meeting.
 He said some suggestions around mergers and acquisitions (M&amp;As), demerger, NCLT process, about certain sections of income tax which were coming in the way of M&amp;A or slowing them down were made.
 "The idea is to create more freedom for the industry, for them to perform. I think the finance minister received them very well with her associates and secretaries. What we look forward to this Budget is that they unleash the energy of the Indian entrepreneurs to do more," Mittal said.
 Expressing similar views, Assocham President Balkrishna Goenka said for "ease of doing business, states have to play an important role" and last mile issues are there, which need to be resolved. 
 When asked about the meeting, CII President Vikram Kirloskar said, "We talked about ease of doing business, which are the issues concerning many industries."
 RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group Sanjiv Goenka said the discussions "centred around more around what can be done to stimulate growth, to facilitate the ease of doing business".
 "I think the finance minister and her team were extremely open to all suggestions," Goenka said, adding that "it is the first time I have seen this kind of response from the government".
 On the current slowdown and its impact on capacity utilisation across many industries, he said, "We all recognised that it is going to take a couple of quarters, three quarters, four quarters, before this capacity gets utilised. We understand that, and that is the reality of the situation."
 Ficci President Sandip Somany said the industry representatives gave suggestion to the FM "to reduce income tax for those who earn less than Rs 20 lakh in a year so that there is more disposable in the hands of consumers and the economy benefits".
 He further said, "We have also asked the FM to take measures about reducing EMIs, which can happen only if the banks reduce the interest rates on loans."
 Stating that while the RBI has cut 135 bps, banks have reduced only 45 bps, Somany said, "If there can be more transmission of RBI's cut to consumers, then the EMIs will be reduced and it will also improve consumption."
 A finance ministry statement said, "During the interactive session lasting over two hours, prominent industrialists spoke about improving regulatory environment to safeguard investments through ease of doing business, increasing export competitiveness, reviving private investment and kick-starting growth measures."
 In the pre-budget consultations in connection with the forthcoming General Budget 2020-21, industrialists also suggested many ways to boost the rural economy, especially to increase consumption, it added.
 Other suggestions included improvement in insolvency process in relation to NCLTs and banks; faster mergers, acquisitions and demergers processes, ways to reduce time for FDI approval; structural changes in laws for effective and stable business environment; time-bound decisions for augmenting ease of doing business both at the central and state levels.
 The industry leaders also called for new investment of capital for building infrastructure, CAPEX for infrastructure to boost the economy, preventing predatory pricing and dumping in India while facilitating R&amp;D in India to boost Make in India, the statement said.
 They also called for harnessing public-private-partnership (PPP) by leveraging social funding through a new programme and ensure liquidity for NBFCs with focus on the rural economy and ways to increase consumption in the economy, it added.

Industry leaders draw govt attention on ease of doing business in India

The <keyword id="411619" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thermal-power-plants" source="Orion">thermal power plants</keyword> of <keyword id="20154" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="Orion">Tamil Nadu</keyword> Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd (TANGEDCO) NLC India Ltd and NTPC Ltd are emitting toxic gases over the permissible limits, as per a study by Poovulagin Nanbargal, an environmental non-government organisation (NGO). The study also found many thermal plants do not have the flue gas desulfuriser (FGD) device, to monitor and control the quantity of toxic gases released from the plants. According to Poovulagin Nanbargal, the study Emission Watch -- Status assessment of SO2 emission and FGD installation for coal -- based power plants in Tamil Nadu, was done along with Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) and ASAR. Poovualgin Nanbargal along with CREA and ASAR conducted a survey on the quantity of toxic gases released from the thermal power plants in Tamil Nadu and identified the number of power plants that have a FGD device to monitor and control the quantity of toxic gases released from the plants. The study is based on data obtained under the Right to Information Act, from the <keyword id="101694" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu-pollution-control-board" source="Orion">Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board</keyword>'s Online Continuous Emission Monitoring System (OCEMS), the Central <keyword id="60130" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pollution-control-board" source="Orion">Pollution Control Board</keyword>, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, NLC India and NTPC. According to the study, only two out of the 40 thermal power plants (13,160 MW) currently operating in Tamil Nadu (1,200MW) are equipped with FGD. There has been no progress in the purchase of FGD for eight power plants, the study said. As per the survey, 30 thermal power plants have not taken any action to fit the FGD device intended to reduce the toxic gas they emit. Further, it is revealed that no thermal power stations operated by TANGEDCO and NLC India have called for tender to set up FGD in their plants, the study states. "The Union Environment Ministry has set the standards for toxic gases released from thermal power stations in the country. A grace period of two years was given to reduce the toxic gas emission from the plants. But the grace period was extended, and by March 21, 2021 it was announced that the grace period was extended until 2024/25," Sunil Dahiya, a member who conducted the study from CREA said. Dahiya further stated: "There is zero progress in fitting the FGD device for reducing emission during these decades, as well. It is shocking to know that not even one thermal power plant operated by the Government of Tamil Nadu and NLC had issued a single tender for the installation of FGD equipment to reduce emission." Neyveli, Chennai, <keyword id="12392579" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="thoothukudi-and-mettur" source="Orion">Thoothukudi and Mettur</keyword> are the most coal burning areas in the country. Neyveli and Chennai are among the top 50 coal burning areas in the world. As per the study, there are significant discrepancies between the data provided on the website of Pollution Control Board's Online Continuous Emission Monitoring System (OCEMS) and the data available under the Right to Information Act (RTI) received in April, May, and June 2021. Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) levels were shown to be very low even when air pollution control equipment was not fitted, according to documents obtained from the Pollution Control Board under the RTI Act. Data obtained under the RTI Act further confirm that in many thermal power plants, Sulphur Dioxide, a gas known to be highly harmful to humans, has been emitted more than the permissible levels. If the Pollution Outcome Measurement issued by the Department of Environment in 2015 had been implemented, Sulphur dioxide emissions should have been within the range of 600 mg / Nm3, 200 mg / Nm3, 100 mg / Nm3, depending on the size and year the power plant was installed, the study states. G. Sundarrajan of Poovulagin Nanbargal said: "According to several reports of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), human activity leads to global warming. The reports also say that the use of fossil fuel by thermal power plants lead to emission of greenhouse gases which in turn leads to intensification of climate change." He said globally there is a shift towards renewable energy and India's interest in opening new thermal plants and refusing to close the obsolete ones, failure to monitor the highly polluting thermal plants and extending the timeframe for reducing the pollution is tantamount to travelling through the path of destruction. As per the study, the solution is to focus on reducing air pollution by 1) investing in air pollution mitigation equipment at thermal power plants and 2) replacing old and less efficient thermal power plants with decentralised renewable energy. With this revised framework, the Company aims to drive a more synergized monetization engine that will deliver enhanced solutions to its clients, improve wallet monetization, extend coverage to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and increase subscriber penetration across linear and digital formats.</li></ul>Subsequent to this restructuring the Company will realign its leaders as detailed below: <ul><li>Punit Misra will take over as President - Content &amp; International Markets</li><li>Amit Goenka will take over as the President - Digital Businesses &amp; Platforms</li><li>Tarun Katial who is leading ZEE5 India business will continue to report into Mr. Amit Goenka</li><li>Shariq Patel will be responsible for the integrated Movies business and Mr. Anurag Bedi will continue to drive the Music business.</li><li>Rahul Johri has been appointed as President – Business, South Asia and will be responsible for leading the integrated Revenue and Monetization team.</li></ul>Rahul was associated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as its first CEO for over four years, being the driving force in powering the improvement in monetization of assets including the IPL and the BCCI Media rights. Prior to BCCI, Rahul was associated with Discovery Networks Asia Pacific for 15 years where he successfully led the turnaround of the Company, working across all aspects of the value chain, launching multiple new networks, revenue generation, affiliate partnerships, viewership growth, programming, productions, operations, government relations and managing the Sony Affiliate Joint Venture - The One Alliance. Punit Misra, Amit Goenka, Shariq Patel, Anurag Bedi and Rahul Johri will report to the Managing Director &amp; Chief Executive Officer of the Company. The new structure is effective immediately.
