Amid the brouhaha over moonlighting in India, Cloud Major <keyword id="10875" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ibm" source="Orion">IBM</keyword> on Wednesday made it clear that the practice is not ethical and the company does not promote such behaviour at workplace. <keyword id="1342992" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sandip-patel" source="Orion">Sandip Patel</keyword>, Managing Director, IBM India, said that the company's position is exactly that of the overall industry in the country. "All of our workers when they are employed, they sign an agreement which says that they are going to be working full-time for IBM. So moonlighting is not ethically right for them to get into," he told reporters here. "That's our position now and you've already heard the industry position," he added. Moonlighting allows employees to work outside their primary working hours. Some startups and unicorns like <keyword id="6358977" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="swiggy" source="Orion">Swiggy</keyword> have encouraged the practice, while most of the traditional companies are calling it cheating. <keyword id="6354512" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="infosys" source="Orion">Infosys</keyword> has warned employees against moonlighting, saying that involvement in such practice can result in "disciplinary action including termination of employment". "No two-timing, no moonlighting", the company said in an internal memo, adding that it "strictly discourages dual employment". Half of outperforming <keyword id="10711065" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="company-ceos">company CEOs</keyword> surveyed globally and 35 per cent in <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> said managing a remote "anywhere" workforce is a top leadership challenge over the next few years. The majority of CEOs surveyed in India see <keyword id="10711066" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="technological-factors">technological factors</keyword>, market factors and regulatory concerns among the most important external forces that will affect their business in the next few years, following the massive disruptions of 2020, according to the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) study. The regulatory concerns reflect a rising assertiveness by governments around privacy, data, trade and -- amplified by Covid-19 -- health. Global CEOs of outperforming organisations -- those who were in the top 20 per cent for revenue growth of those surveyed -- are prioritising talent, technology and partnerships to position their companies for success post-the Covid-19 pandemic. Across the board, surveyed CEOs in India said Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud, Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning, robotic process automation and advanced analytics were the top technologies that they believe can deliver benefits for their business. About 45 per cent of outperforming company CEOs in India expect AI/Machine Learning to deliver results in the next two-three years. "We are living in an all-pervasive digital world and enterprises must transform with speed to remain relevant and win," Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India/South Asia, said in a statement. Outperforming company CEOs are also more focused on partnerships, according to the IBV study. In India, 55 per cent of outperforming CEOs surveyed said partnerships have become more important for driving business performance while only about half as many underperformers said the same. In addition, 41 per cent of company CEOs in India report they plan to prioritise employee well-being even if it affects near-term profitability. The study polled 3,000 CEOs across 26 industries and nearly 50 countries including India - 111 CEOs. Indian CEOs have a new challenge — employees working from anywhere in the remote era

New Delhi, June 25 (IANS) Tech giant IBM on Thursday announced a free digital learning platform as part of its SkillsBuild initiative to help jobseekers and provide new resources to business owners in India. Called 'SkillsBuild Reignite', the platform will give access to free online coursework and mentoring support, designed to help people reinvent their careers and businesses. In November last year, IBM launched SkillsBuild in collaboration with the Directorate General of Training under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development &amp; Entrepreneurship (MSDE). SkillBuild has already benefited 14,135 learners who have completed 40,000 courses and 77,000 hours of e-learning. "We mark a significant milestone in supporting Centre's efforts in accelerating Indian economy's revival from the adverse effects of Covid with the launch of SkillsBuild Reignite and Innovation Camp, in collaboration with IBM India," said Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. SkillsBuild Reignite will include more coursework and personalised coaching for entrepreneurs seeking advice to help establish or restart their small businesses as they focus on recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic. The courses include financial management, business strategy, digital strategy, legal support and more. Working with NGOs such as Edunet and Unnati Foundation, among others, the new IBM partners will play a key role in addressing local needs. "Not only does this platform provides career reinvention opportunities but also innovative ways of working and individualized support for relaunching business strategies," explained Sandip Patel, General Manager, IBM India/South Asia. IBM announces free digital learning platform for jobseekers in India

The Central Board of Secondary Education (<keyword id="6356155" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbse">CBSE</keyword>) on Thursday announced a partnership with tech giant <keyword id="10875" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IBM">IBM</keyword> to introduce <keyword id="107950" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence">artificial intelligence</keyword> (<keyword id="6355999" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ai">AI</keyword>) curriculum for classes 11 and 12 in about 200 high schools across 13 states in India. Developed in collaboration with IBM, the curriculum is part of CBSE's Social Empowerment through Work Education and Action (SEWA) programme. The curriculum is structured around a course framework for students consisting of base strands of knowledge (basics, history, applications), skills (design thinking, computational thinking, data fluency, critical thinking) and values (ethical decision making, bias) in AI. "The objective of our exciting collaboration with CBSE is to help address some of those challenges by designing one of the most accessible and comprehensive gateways for students to begin their AI journey," Sandip Patel, General Manager, IBM India/South Asia said in a statement. According to the company, it is further made robust with problem-based learning outcomes and assessment methods for teachers, to build foundational skills of AI in students making them not just consumers of AI, but creators as well. To meet CBSE's requirements for class 11 and 12, the curriculum was co-developed with Australia's Macquarie University and Indian implementation partners - Learning Links Foundation and 1M1B. "With support from IBM, we are proud to lead the way for the nation by developing such an innovative training-based learning approach for students and teachers," said Manoj Ahuja, Chairperson, CBSE. The IBM AI curriculum was launched in collaboration with CBSE in September 2019 with an aim to impart AI skills to 5,000 class 11 students and 1000 teachers across India. Meanwhile, IBM and CBSE also announced the '2020 IBM EdTech Youth Challenge' to encourage teams of students and teachers to leverage emerging technologies including cloud, AI, blockchain to solve existing or imminent problems facing society. Final winners stand to get a two-week internship and mentorship experience from senior leaders at IBM as well as opportunities to participate in national or international hackathons or conferences, the company said.

New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) The Covid-19 lockdown forced enterprises in India to shift their operations overnight to immediately accommodate a remote workforce. During four months of working remotely, they faced unprecedented challenges in how to manage their business continuity in light of the burdens placed on capacity, productivity and security. The pandemic, however, has accelerated the adoption of digital tools and organisations are strengthening capabilities to invent newer models of engagement and business touchpoints, in order to continue to meet immediate needs and to transform future possibilities into realities. The Hyderabad Cloud region will help a large number of Indian organisations realise their digital transformation dreams," Shailender Kumar, Regional Managing Director, Oracle India, told IANS. According to an IDC report that came out last month, as a result of the spread of the pandemic, 64 per cent of the organisations in India are expected to increase demand for cloud computing while 56 per cent for cloud software to support the new normal. The need to work remotely is bolstering the demand for SaaS-based collaborative apps, to ensure on and off-site presence at all the times and zero-disruption to business. This will also increase the need for remote support services both human professional services and of the cloud software especially security/identity. "As industries move away from infrastructure of ownership, pay-per-use models are likely to see an accelerated demand. Public cloud services will be among the few technologies that are positively impacted by the Covid-19," said Rishu Sharma, Principal Analyst, Cloud and Artificial Intelligence, IDC India. According to Patel, even before the pandemic, the adoption of cloud has been a central feature in developing new, digitally-driven business models. "However, some organisations are still struggling with harnessing the full capabilities of their Cloud environments. It is estimated that 50 per cent of enterprises will have moved to 'write once, run anywhere' hybrid and multicloud environments by 2023," he noted. According to Karan Bajwa, Managing Director, Google Cloud India, as Covid-19 runs its course, Google Cloud is working hard to deliver technology and business solutions to help millions of people stay connected. "We believe today more than ever, we need to collaborate and innovate and build new features to make our tools helpful, secure and safe," Bajwa said last month. In March, Google Cloud announced plans to expand its presence in India by launching a cloud region in Delhi, adding to its Mumbai region that was opened in 2017. Kulish was told she could expect to receive a visa within four days, she told Insider.The Kulish family then planned to fly to the UK to start a new life with a sponsor family in Hampshire, England, or so they hoped.Two weeks passed, and the visa had still not been issued. By this point, Kulish and her family were no longer able to stay in the one-bedroom Warsaw apartment. "In Warsaw, there were a lot of people who came from Ukraine, and there was no opportunity to rent housing at an affordable price," she told Insider.Facing the possibility of homelessness, Kulish decided to return to her home in Ukraine on April 2.Back in Dnipro, Kulish said, "the nights pass anxiously" as she and her children listen to sirens blare and wait impatiently for their visas to be approved.<h2><div type="image" title="Liliia, Nina, and Platon" height="465" width="621" msid="90744152" hostid="261"></div></h2>On Thursday night, another family returned to their home in a war zone.Nina, 43, Liliia, 21, and newborn baby, Platon, escaped to Poland from Ukraine by foot last month.Once in Poland, they applied for Homes for Ukraine visas. Leila Majewska, who is Polish but lives in Derby, England, matched with Nina, Liliia, and Platon on a Facebook group.Majewska immediately started preparing her home for the family. "If they got the visa on time, they wouldn't be there, and they'd be safe and comfortable." she said.Living in a state of "purgatory" has had a negative effect on the family's mental health, Majewska noted. "It's the suspension, waiting for something, but you don't know if it's going to actually happen," she said.<h2>Just 2.8% of Homes for Ukraine applicants have arrived in the UK</h2>According to <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/ukraine-family-scheme-application-data/ukraine-family-scheme-and-ukraine-sponsorship-scheme-homes-for-ukraine-visa-data--2">figures released on Friday</a> by the Home Office, only 1,200 Ukrainians who have applied for the Homes for Ukraine program have arrived in the UK. As the visa process dragged on, the family decided it was no longer financially viable to pay for expensive accommodation."We felt the only option for us was for them to go back to Ukraine and ultimately wait again," Lee said. Eventually, the family had their visas approved, and they're now living in the UK.Sandip Basu, a volunteer legal adviser with the Ukraine Advice Project who helped the Lee family, told Insider that it feels "shameful" that the family had to suffer the bureaucratic nightmare. It shows that the UK's visa-application process is not fit for its purpose, he said."It's a problem of lack of communication between the Home Office, the government, and the visa application center, and just a matter of unpreparedness," Basu said.On Friday, Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, apologized "with frustration" for the program's failures. "I'll be very candid. It has taken time," she said, per <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61028712">BBC News.</a> "Any new scheme takes time. "It's an incredible decision to make, and I don't know what I'd do if I had to make that choice."

New Delhi, May 4 () Indian Council of Medical Research has deployed IBM's artificial intelligence tool Watson Assistant to expedite and simplify responses from testing to provide accurate and updated data on COVID-19, the IT company said on Monday.The virtual chat assistant will give responses based on the final guidelines issued by ICMR and also filter old rules that remain valid for handling tests, sample collection, diagnostics, data entry etc related to coronavirus cases.ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava said that it is critical to remain focused on testing, diagnosis and treatment of coronavirus patients in order to lower the growth curve.He said with the number of on-field testing teams expanding across the nation as part of India's COVID-19 measures, collaboration with IBM will help automate responses from the field and facilitate access to accurate and updated data on the coronavirus diagnostics and reporting."This will help augment our teams' response time and allow them to concentrate on priorities like developing and updating testing and treatment protocols and guidance for COVID-19," Bhargava said.Coronavirus cases in the country have increased to 42,533 till date and killed 1,373 people."Technology continues to play a significant role in India's fight against COVID-19, and it is crucial to evaluate and leverage the most effective solutions to support these initiatives. The deployment of IBM's chatbot AI platform is aimed to help ICMR effectively manage the process of capturing data relating to COVID-19," Ministry of Electronics and IT Additional Secretary Gopalakrishnan S said.The virtual agent has been deployed on protected pages of the ICMR website that can be accessed only by authorized personnel who are involved with sample collection and testing in hospitals and diagnostic labs, the statement said."As India rises to meet the challenge of COVID-19, it is crucial to enable government bodies such as ICMR to utilize data and capabilities effectively for rapid detection and treatment," IBM general manager for India and South Asia, Sandip Patel said.Watson virtual agent will handle text based queries in Hindi and English language."Queries will be categorized under various headings such as governance, logistics, data entry and sharing, staff training and testing and for complex questions, pre-defined contact information of ICMR is made available. The virtual agent is also expected to help in on-boarding new data entry operators and staff of diagnostic centres, as the COVID-19 test network expands across the country," the statement said.
