Driven by UPI-based transactions, about 81 per cent of consumers intend to shop online during this festive season in India, while one in two consumers are willing to increase their spending compared to last year, a new survey report showed on Monday. Digital payment methods are on the rise, with 42 per cent of consumers saying they will choose unified payments interface (<keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword>)-for online festive shopping. In addition, 57 per cent indicated that their preferred digital payment method for earning rewards and cashback is UPI, especially during the festive season. About 75 per cent are interested in buying electronic gadgets and products (smartphones, TVs, refrigerators and ACs), luxury and authentic beauty brands, home furnishing/improvement items and consumables, online, according to the report by <keyword id="17495816" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nielsen-media-india" source="Orion">Nielsen Media India</keyword>, on behalf of Amazon India. The survey said that 87 per cent of consumers in metropolitan cities and 86 per cent across tier-2 cities (population 10-40 lakh) prefer to shop online for the festive period. "We are inspired to learn that consumers this year are excited and willing to spend and shop more online. As a marketplace, we are confident that the 'Amazon Great India Festival 2023' will offer a seamless shopping experience, incredible value and the widest selection of domestic and international brands and products," said Manish Tiwary, Country Manager India Consumer Business, Amazon India. More than 70 per cent of consumers wait for online festive shopping events to purchase electronic items. Over 75 per cent of consumers are excited with attractive bank offers and no-cost EMIs for making their purchase more convenient and rewarding, said the report. Around 80 per cent consumers said online festive shopping events provide access to trendy brands for apparel, footwear, and various fashion accessories with nearly 64 per cent sharing their intent to purchase across these categories this festive season. Driven by about 140 million shoppers, India is likely to witness Rs 90,000 crore worth of online gross merchandise value (GMV) in the festive month this year. This is up 18-20 per cent from last year's festive month sales, according to a recent report by market research firm Redseer Strategy Consultants. UPI set to drive festive sales this year, electronics to be top choice again: Report

The <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reserve-Bank-of-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Reserve Bank of India" meta.hostid="83" meta.entityid="Reserve Bank of India">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>) along with <keyword id="19998946" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NPCI" source="keywords">NPCI</keyword> international payments ltd (NIPL) will work towards taking <keyword id="19900911" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="UPI" source="keywords">UPI</keyword> to 20 countries by FY29. RBI Annual report says possibilities will be explored for increasing the global footprints of UPI and <keyword id="19907221" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RuPay" source="keywords">RuPay</keyword>. "In light of goals for Viksit Bharat 2047, the Reserve Bank, along with NPCI International Payments Ltd. (NIPL) will work towards taking UPI to 20 countries with initiation timeline of 2024-25 and completion timeline of 2028-29," the report said. The RBI report further adds "Fast Payment System (FPS) collaboration with group of countries like European Union and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), as well as multilateral linkages will be explored". The Payments Vision Document 2025 of RBI has outlined expanding the global outreach of UPI and RuPay cards as one of the key objectives under the internationalisation pillar. The Reserve Bank is in talks with central banks of various countries for entering into collaborative arrangements. In July 2023, the Reserve Bank and the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for interlinking their payments infrastructure. Under this MoU, India and UAE have agreed to cooperate on linking their Fast Payment Systems, UPI of India with Instant Payment Platform (IPP) of UAE called Aani. Both countries also agreed to link their respective Card Switches (RuPay switch and UAESWITCH). In February 2024, RuPay cards and UPI connectivity between India and Mauritius was launched. With this connectivity, an Indian traveller to Mauritius will be able to pay a merchant in Mauritius using UPI apps. Similarly, a Mauritian traveller will be able to do the same in India using the instant payment system apps of Mauritius In February 2024, UPI connectivity between India and Sri Lanka was launched. This connectivity has enabled Indian travellers to make QR code-based payments at merchant locations in Sri Lanka using UPI apps. The Reserve Bank of India and Nepal Rastra Bank are also exploring the linkage of UPI platform of India and National Payments Interface of Nepal for enabling cross-border payments. In June 2023, NPCI International Payments Ltd. (NIPL) and Nepal Clearing House Ltd. Then, the website asks the user to enter their personal information or account details. When the user enters this information, the information is sent to the scammer, who can use this information to steal money or commit identity theft. In some instances, these QR codes also prompt the victim to enter their UPI PIN to send money. When the user enters their UPI PIN, the scammer receives it and can use it to steal money. Not just this, QR codes may also include malicious files, which are automatically downloaded when the user scans the code. Quishing on the rise – Be alert while scanning payment QR codes

<keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword> on Thursday invited local startups to collaborate on technologies around the 'Digital <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>' stack, including unified payments interface (<keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword>), Digilocker, Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), Open Credit Enablement Network (OCEN) and Unified Health Interface (UHI), among others. The company said that its R&amp;D centres and business units in the country will work closely with these startups to co-build solutions for a specific product or service, that has the potential to be integrated with the company's product ecosystem. "We wish to collaborate with startups who have cutting-edge technologies in this space, which, when integrated with the Samsung ecosystem, can transform the lives of people, our consumers," said Dipesh Shah, Managing Director, Samsung R&amp;D Institute Bangalore. Samsung said it will also explore funding support to some of these startups to help them further scale their solutions. The company last week held a 'Startup Collab' event at the Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru where around 25 startups came together and interacted with Samsung leadership from its R&amp;D centres in Bengaluru and Noida, and its corporate headquarters in Gurugram. "Co-prosperity is one of our core values and we hope to play our part in enhancing the innovation ecosystem in the country, thereby powering 'Digital India,'" said Dr Balvinder Singh, Head, Open Innovation Group, Samsung R&amp;D Institute Bangalore. Samsung's engineers will also provide these startups with technical mentorship as well as guidance in protecting their intellectual property. A successful startup currently powers Samsung's local India app-store where consumers can discover and access their favourite mobile applications in 12 Indian languages. Note that the feature will only work on NFC-enabled Android smartphones to make payments by using any Pine Labs Android POS terminal across the nation. Google Pay now has Tap to Pay for UPI — here’s how to use it

The messaging app could soon offer cashbacks on payments to its users. This feature is currently being tested with no word on its official release yet. The new <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/how-to-check-your-bank-account-balance-using-whatsapp-pay/articleshow/86198586.cms">WhatsApp payments</a> feature could be exclusive to India or introduced first to India. In the test discovered by WABetaInfo, the cashback is limited to UPI payments in India. WhatsApp is offering cashback of up to ₹10 per payment but it may be increased before the official release of the feature. WABetaInfo also <a href="https://wabetainfo.com/whatsapp-beta-for-android-2-21-20-3-whats-new/">says</a> that users can get only one cashback. It isn’t clear though if this means WhatsApp will give you only one cashback throughout or one per payment. There’s also confusion over whether this cashback will be only for new users or existing users as well. The feature has also popped up as a test in the WhatsApp app but not for public beta testers. It’s highlighted on top of the chat list reading “Get cashback on your next payment.” You can tap on it to get started. There’s not enough clarity yet but we could get to know more about the WhatsApp payment feature as the development continues. But it’s quite clear that the cashback feature would be a way for WhatsApp to push its payments service in India.
