In a bid to further expand its footprint in India, <keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword> on Wednesday announced key organisational changes in the country to generate more synergies among its various businesses. The South Korean major appointed CH Choi as the new division leader for the Consumer Electronics business, while Jinsock Lee will be the division leader for the Network business. Lee will be based in Mumbai and Jongbum Park will continue to be the division leader for the Mobile business, the company said in a statement. Mohandeep Singh will be the new Head of Sales, Marketing and Operations for the consumer electronics business, while Raju Pullan will be the new Head, Sales and Retail for the Mobile business. Aditya Babbar will lead Product Marketing for the Mobile business. Asim Warsi, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, <keyword id="107877" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="samsung-india" source="Orion">Samsung India</keyword>, will be pursuing a different professional path and in that, he will continue to be engaged with Samsung India, according to the company. Industry sources told IANS that Warsi is poised to take up an advisory role in the company. The changes, said Samsung, will deliver an enriching and meaningful experience for consumers, as the company further expands its footprint in India and takes new strides in innovations driven by future technologies. "Three new teams are being created to improve operational synergies and consumer experiences," said the company. Dipesh Shah, Managing Director of Samsung R&amp;D Institute Bangalore, will also head a newly-created India Customer Experience (ICX) and Business Strategy team to create multiple device experience for the Indian consumers. The new Direct-To-Customer team will be headed by Sumit Walia, who will also lead the Corporate Marketing team. A new Enterprise Business team will be headed by Akash Saxenaa. The company said that these changes will help itto continue to serve its consumers and partners in India. Samsung India shuffles top management to expand footprint in the country

<keyword id="107877" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="samsung-india" source="Orion">Samsung India</keyword> on Friday said that its mobile business division garnered record revenue of Rs 14,400 crore during the festive months of September and October in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, making it the best Diwali sales for the South Korean giant. <keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword> India's mobile division turned in record sales riding on strong consumer demand for premium smartphones such as the Galaxy S22 series and the recently-launched foldables, <keyword id="6624110" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aditya-babbar" source="Orion">Aditya Babbar</keyword>, Senior Director and Head of Product Marketing, Mobile Business at Samsung India, told IANS. "Sales grew in healthy double digits during the festive months on the back of strong demand for premium smartphones and Samsung's premium smartphones (Rs 30,000 and above) grew 2 times in the current year (January-September)," <keyword id="345741" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="babbar" source="Orion">Babbar</keyword> informed. Both the Galaxy S22 series and the fourth generation of foldables -- Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 -- have seen huge demand from customers. Samsung said it continues to lead the broader smartphone market by sales for the 10th year running. "We have consolidated our smartphone leadership this year. Along with premium smartphones, 5G smartphones have seen huge demand from consumers in India," Babbar said. According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung led the 5G smartphone segment in India for the fourth straight quarter in Q3. Samsung was also the fastest-growing brand in the premium segment. Samsung held the second spot in Q3 in India and was the only smartphone brand among the top five to register an annual growth. The company also led the handset (feature phone+smartphone) market with an 18 per cent share in the country. Babbar said that Samsung had the biggest 5G portfolio in India, with more than 20 5G smartphones and tablets selling in the country right now. "Consumers have upgraded in a big way -- both to 5G smartphones and to premium smartphones -- in the just concluded festive season," Babbar told IANS, citing the growth in 5G smartphones as another big reason for Samsung India's success. Babbar said the company's innovations in terms of platforms and services have helped consumers in a big way. Samsung Finance+, the company's lending platform for new-to-credit customers, saw more than 1 million transactions during the festive season, he informed. However, some unhappy aspects have led to the resignation of <keyword id="107877" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Samsung-India">Samsung India</keyword>’s top four executives. As per a news report by The Economic Times, the heads of four divisions and functions at Samsung India have quit over the past month. 
 
Having replaced the company's long-serving CEO BD Park, Hong had aimed at accelerating growth. Assuming the office four months back, he has merged marketing functions such as those related to product advertising and below-the-line marketing activities with the sales team to ensure better coordination. 
 <keyword id="2495652" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tarun-Malik">Tarun Malik</keyword>, director and head of digital content, cloud and media solution centre, which builds applications and develops content for Samsung's smartphones and smart televisions, has resigned. <keyword id="1087064" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sachin-Thapar">Sachin Thapar</keyword>, director for the tablets business, quit three weeks ago and joined an American smartphone startup InFocus Mobiles as its India head. 
 <keyword id="2799363" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sandeep-Bhushan">Sandeep Bhushan</keyword>, who was director, go-to-market strategy, of the mobile phone business has also resigned. A Samsung India spokesperson said the company had built a solid foundation in the Indian market because of an exemplary talent pool. 
 
As per the news report, some have left because their roles were substantially reduced, while others were unhappy with the organisational changes. 
 
A senior industry executive, who didn't want to be named told the ET, Hong had taken charge of Indian operations at a critical time with Samsung's smartphone business under pressure globally and revenue growth in India in 2014-15 having slowed by more than half over the previous fiscal. Samsung India sales grew 45% to Rs 40,392 crore in 2013-14. Most of Hong's initiatives are centred on the company's smartphone business, which accounts for almost 70% of revenues. 
 
"Hong is re-organising the Indian operations and tough calls are being taken. He is a thorough sales professional. There is a lot of emphasis on cutting costs and driving profit," the executive told the financial daily.

Similarly, the multi-timer feature enables the user to simultaneously have multiple timers, all at the same time, for different activities and tasks. The 'Bedtime Alarm' feature is also more robust, allowing users to customize alarm timings day-wise. To enhance communication, the 'Direct Dial 4X1' widget has been added to the S23 home screen, for easy accessibility of priority contacts and dial them at a single touch. SRI-N developed these apps and features to provide the most seamless and intuitive experience to customers while providing a wide scope for customisation, said the company. The country's largest cell phone maker has merged the vertical that managed its own brand stores with retail sales that dealt with independent dealers and distributors. 
 They said the regional retail vertical, which caters to large regional chains such as Viveks, Adishwar Retail, Great Eastern and Vijay Sales, will continue as it is. <keyword id="1611492" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Alok-Pathak">Alok Pathak</keyword>, who was earlier heading the regional retail vertical, will now lead the combined portfolio of brand shops and retail sales. 
 Rajeev Bhutani, who used to head retail sales, has become vice-president for business strategy. <keyword id="3005442" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Rakesh-Moza">Rakesh Moza</keyword> now heads the regional vertical, apart from his earlier role of heading modern retail that includes chains like <keyword id="152739" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Croma">Croma</keyword> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Reliance+Digital">Reliance Digital</a>. 
 
The sources said all these changes have been made in the last one month.

A top industry executive, who requested anonymity, said Hong — who in his last role was the president of Samsung's Latin America operations for three years — is evaluating possibilities of further restructuring the consumer electronics business if the current structure does not deliver result. 
 The company may then adopt the business structure it follows in the cell phone business where the business is divided as per geography, referred to as India One and India Two within Samsung, the person said. While Samsung may still be the <keyword id="139821" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="market-leader">market leader</keyword> in flat panel television, Sony has bridged the gap by launching smaller screen sizes specifically for India. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LG+">LG</a> remains the largest home appliances maker. 
 
A top executive in a rival firm is of the view that Samsung's white goods business was under pressure this year since consumers have cut back on spending while the Korean firm is more focused on the premium segment. "The company is trying to upgrade sales by launching high-end products with attractive consumer finance schemes and promotions, but consumer sentiments are still down and the company's margins are under pressure," the person said.

Samsung India will hire 1,000 engineers from top institutes for R&D units

The overall list makes up for around 10% of the company’s total team strength spreading across departments like sales, R&amp;D, human resources and finance. As many as 150 of its employees from the telecom networks division have already been let go of. Samsung plans to finish the exercise by the end of October this year, according to the report. Samsung on Wednesday expanded its lifestyle TV range in India with the launch of 'Sero' -- the world's first mobile optimised TV that rotates between horizontal and vertical orientations at the flick of a button. The 'Sero' will be available in 43-inch screen size with navy-blue bezel design. The lifestyle TV is priced at Rs 1,24,990 and will be available exclusively at Reliance Digital stores. "With consumers now using their TVs in different ways than ever before, including scrolling through social media, watching the latest viral videos or binge watching their favourite OTT shows, we wanted to redefine their content viewing experience by moving it to a bigger screen," said Raju Pullan, Senior Vice President, Consumer Electronics Business, <keyword id="107877" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung-India">Samsung India</keyword>. <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> is looking forward to hire more than 300 engineers from the country’s most prestigious technology institute-Indian Institutes of Technology (<keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIT">IIT</keyword>s) and this will lead to making Samsung the top recruiter from IIT campuses this year. 
 
The leader in mobile phone and electronics manufacturing is leading the race in terms of making maximum offers in at least three Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campuses after the first eight days of final placements this year. 
 A <keyword id="107877" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samsung-India">Samsung India</keyword> spokesperson confirmed that the company plans on hiring over 300 engineers from the <keyword id="49737" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IITs">IITs</keyword> this year for its research and development (R&amp;D) institutes in <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword>, Noida and Delhi. 
 
"IITs offer some of the best engineering talent in India, and these young engineers are well-suited to the innovation mindset at Samsung," the person told ET. 
 
Samsung has made the maximum number of offers at IIT Roorkee, IIT Varanasi and Guwahati, handing out 95 offers in these three campuses. 
 At <keyword id="6364832" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Kharagpur">IIT Kharagpur</keyword>, it is just behind only <keyword id="45383" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coal-India">Coal India</keyword>. The company is also hiring aggressively from other top IITs such as Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Kanpur and Hyderabad. 
 
"Samsung Bangalore has been the top recruiter at our institute this year with 25 offers," Kaustubha Mohanty, head, centre for career development, IIT Guwahati, told ET. 
 At IIT Roorkee, Samsung made 26 offers, followed by <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> with 23 offers, <keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> with 17, <keyword id="6355199" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries">Reliance Industries</keyword> with 16, and <keyword id="1960232" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Citicorp-Services-India">Citicorp Services India</keyword> and EXL with 15 offers each. 
 
Another top recruiter this year is outsourcing and analytics service provider EXL, which has alreaddy visited eight IITs, which includes Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Madras, Guwahati, and BHU this year, and made 127 offers, up from 111last year. 
 "Driven by its growth-induced demand, EXL has been consistently increasing its offers at the campuses primarily due to the quality, aptitude and trainability of the candidates. EXL hires primarily for its consultant role from all the above campuses. Placements at IITs started on December 1 and are still ongoing. The first phase of the process will end later this month, only to pick up again in January," <keyword id="1567562" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vivek-Jetley">Vivek Jetley</keyword>, senior vice-president, <keyword id="3937269" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="exl-analytics">EXL Analytics</keyword>, told ET. 
 Power management company Eaton also recruited in good numbers. It made 11 offers at <keyword id="922152" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Hyderabad">IIT Hyderabad</keyword> to emerge the single largest recruiter there while at IIT BHU it made 10 offers.

IIT placements: Samsung India plans to hire over 300 engineers, to emerge as top recruiter this year

<keyword id="107877" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="samsung-india" source="Orion">Samsung India</keyword> on Wednesday said it will roll out the software update for its vast portfolio of <keyword id="764355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g" source="Orion">5G</keyword> devices in the country by the middle of next month. The company said in a statement to IANS that it is currently working with operator partners for a seamless roll-out of the 5G experience for users. "We are working closely with our operator partners and are committed to rolling out OTA updates across all our 5G devices by the middle of November 2022, enabling Indian consumers to experience 5G seamlessly," a <keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword> <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> spokesperson told IANS. "Samsung has pioneered 5G technology development since 2009 and took the leading role in standardising 5G technology globally," the company spokesperson added. In India, Samsung has the widest portfolio of 5G devices. The announcement came as the government convened a meeting of handset manufacturers and telecom service providers on Wednesday to ensure a smooth transition towards the new technology. Prioritising software upgrades would enable the early adoption of 5G in India. <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword> and <keyword id="2003276" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jio" source="Orion">Jio</keyword> have rolled out their 5G services in key metros in a phased manner. There are no 5G rollout plans from Vodafone-Idea yet. India is home to more than 500 million smartphone users and over 100 million users with 5G-ready smartphones wish to upgrade to a 5G subscription in 2023, according to the latest <keyword id="6356812" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ericsson" source="Orion">Ericsson</keyword> report. The study said that Indian smartphone users are willing to pay a 45 per cent premium for a plan bundled with novel experiences, which could be a delight for Internet service providers ready with 5G. Samsung says will roll out 5G software update by mid-November in India

<keyword id="127875" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vineet-Taneja">Vineet Taneja</keyword>, <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> India head for mobile phones and digital imaging, has resigned, according to industry sources. This marks the departure of one of the top two Indian executives at the South Korean firm in India. The other high level Indian executive in the company is <keyword id="210829" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ravinder-Zutshi">Ravinder Zutshi</keyword> who is the deputy managing director of Samsung India. 
 
Talks about Taneja’s exit were doing the rounds over the past two months. However, he has not made up his mind regarding the next job, as per sources. 
 
Although Taneja could not be immediately reached for comments on his quitting, a Samsung India spokesperson said, "Samsung does not comment on rumour or speculation." 
 While Samsung has maintained its market share in the mobile phone business, the Indian arm has been facing pressure lately for losing some momentum. For instance, sales of its <keyword id="1896085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Galaxy-S5">Galaxy S5</keyword> and <keyword id="1593765" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Galaxy-S4">Galaxy S4</keyword> models have been below the company's expectations. 
 
This was one of the reasons behind Taneja's exit, according to a senior trade partner of Samsung India. "There's huge pressure on Vineet to continue with 30-40% growth rate despite the market growth rate slowing down," the trade partner said. 
 
Taneja was also unhappy with the changes in the management of Samsung India, which saw him report to SK Kim, managing director (sales). Earlier, he directly reported to BD Park, managing director of Samsung India. 
 
According to CyberMedia Research, Samsung led the Indian smartphone market with 38.9% share in the January-March quarter, followed by Micromax at 19.1%, Karbonn at 6.9%, Lava at 6.1% and Nokia at 5.3%. 
 
Taneja had earlier left Bharti Airtel where he worked as the operations director for South India and Sri Lanka. He is a graduate from IIT Roorkee and did his MBA from IIM Calcutta.
