Patna, May 12 () Bihar reported 15 fresh cases of COVID-19, taking the state's virus tally to 761, a top health department official said on Tuesday.While nine of the patients hail from Begusarai, two are from Darbhanga, one each from Nalanda, Samastipur, Sheikhpura and Supaul districts."We are ascertaining the infection trail," Health Department's Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar said.Most of the patients are in the 20-40 age group, he said.Coronavirus has spread to 37 of the state's 38districts, leaving Jamui unaffected.Six fatalities have so far been reported -- one eachfrom Patna, Rohtas, Munger, Vaishali, East Champaran and Sitamarhi. COVID-19 patients, who died during the course of treatment, were also suffering from other serious illnesses.While 377 people have recovered, there are 378 active cases in the state at present.Munger has reported the maximum number of cases at 115, followed by Patna at 70, Rohtas (59), Buxar (56), Nalanda (50), Siwan (33), Kaimur (32), Begusarai (31). Patna, Jun 9 () Bihar continued to reel under the COVID-19 outbreak as the death toll rose to 33 on Tuesday when the swab sample of a policeman collected after his demise tested positive for the coronavirus, while the tally of positive cases increased to 5,455 with 208 fresh infections, the state health department said. The 58-year-old policeman became the first casualty from Aurangabad district where he died on Sunday, shortly after his Truenat test suggested that he was COVID-19 positive. According to Aurangabad Superintendent of Police Deepak Barnwal, the deceased belonged to Buxar district. After his death, his sample was sent for comprehensive examination and the results confirmed that he was infected with the coronavirus. He had high fever and co-morbid conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, the SP said, adding 69 police personnel stationed at the Aurangabad Police Line, where the deceased used to stay, have been quarantined. Earlier, casualties were reported from Khagaria and Begusarai (three each), and Vaishali, Patna, Sitamarhi, Bhojpur, Siwan and Saran districts (two each). In addition, one casualty each was reported from Araria, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Jamui, Jehanabad, Madhepura, Munger, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Nawada, East Champaran, Rohtas, Samastipur and Sheohar. In terms of total number of confirmed cases, Patna district is at the top with a tally of 286 followed by Khagaria (279), Begusarai (272), Bhagalpur (267), Rohtas (249) and Madhubani (238). Cases have been reported from all 38 districts of the state and only nine of these still have a tally in double- digit. Altogether 2,770 people have recovered, while 1.05 lakh samples have been tested so far. According to the states health secretary Lokesh Singh, migrants who have returned since May 3 comprise 72 per cent of the total confirmed cases in Bihar till date. Block-level quarantine centers, where the migrants were being lodged for 14 days after landing on the states soil, have given up fresh admissions since last week and these are scheduled to be winded up by June 15. The state's secretary for Information and Public Relations Department Anupam Kumar said 13.99 lakh migrants have gone to their homes after completing their 14-day mandatory quarantine while 1.21 lakh people were still lodged at these quarantine centers. Police were on guard in front of the hotel,"City Superintendent of Police Puneet Gehlot told .Three of these coronavirus patients were later tracedby police and admitted to a private hospital. Two of them hailfrom Samastipur district of Bihar, while one belongs to Kotain Rajasthan, he said.Search was on for the five others, all natives ofRampur district in Uttar Pradesh, the official said.The Rampur district administration has been informedabout them. "The three patients who were traced said they weredisturbed after staying in the isolation facility for last 17days. (Eds: With fresh inputs) Patna, Apr 17 () A 35-year-old COVID-19 patient man, also suffering from multiple ailments, died here on Friday raising the coronavirus pandemic death toll in Bihar to two. Following the death of the adjacent Viashali district's man here in AIIMS, Patna, the adjoining district administration said the deceased had no travel history and feared that his testing positive could be indicative of community transmission of the virus. The death marks the second COVID-19 casualty in Bihar. A 38-year-old from Munger had died onMarch 21, a day before his test reports confirmed him to be coronavirus-infected. The Vaishali man, who died in AIIMS here, was also suffering from numerous complications besides having tested positive for COVID 19, Patna AIIMS Director Prabhat Kumar Singh told -Bhasha. According to sources in the health department, the deceased belonged to Raghopur panchayat falling under Vaishali district and suffered from tuberculosis, typhoid, brain fever and several other illnesses. Before being referred to AIIMS, Patna he was admitted to a private hospital here, which has been sealed, and its occupants quarantined, after he tested positive two days ago. Vaishali District Magistrate Udita Singh said, the deceased had no travel history. After falling ill, he had visited Samastipur and, later, Patna for treatment. Given the circumstances, his testing positive raises the probability of community transmission. Accordingly, instructions have been issued to strictly enforce lockdown in the district. The area within a radius of three kilometers from the village of the deceased has been made a containment zone wherein entry and egress has been banned and all essential supplies were being made by the administration, which was also carrying out sanitization of the zone, she added. More than 60 samples, of people who may have come in contact with the deceased, have been sent for testing. None has reported positive so far, she said. The deceased happened to be the lone case reported from Vaishali district, which is among the 13 out of 38 in Bihar where people have tested COVID-19 positive. Siwan and Munger districts have reported maximum cases of infection. At least 83 people have tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus in the state so far. Of these, 37 have recovered. Bihar reports its second COVID-19 death; admin fears community transmission

Patna, Jun 11 () A total of 250 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in Bihar on Thursday, taking the infection tally to 5,947 in the state where the pandemic has claimed 34 lives so far, health department said. Among the new cases, 109 cases are that of Wednesday, the results of which were received during the day, while the rest 141 fresh infections were reported on Thursday. The state has so far seen 34 COVID-19 fatalities in 23 districts. Khagaria and Begusarai districts accounted for three deaths each followed by Patna, Vaishali, Saran, Siwan, Bhojpur, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga (two each) and Munger, Rohtas, East Champaran, Nalanda, Samastipur, Bhagalpur, Jehanabad, Madhepura, Jamui, Sheohar, Nawada, Araria, Muzaffarpur and Aurangabad (one each). The districts which have reported a large number of confirmed cases are Patna (294), Bhagalpur (289), Begusarai (285), Khagaria (280), Rohtas (264), Madhubani (260), Munger (229), Katihar (196) and Jehanabad (182). Novel coronavirus cases have emerged from all the 38 districts of the state. Out of the total 5,947 positive cases, 3,086 patients have recovered, leaving the state with 2,827 active cases. The number of samples tested till date is 1,13,225. Although the state had reported its first couple of cases in March, more than 3,000 people tested positive in the month of May, the spike attributed mainly to the massive influx of migrants by special trains and other modes of transport. According to health department Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh, the number of migrants who have tested positive for the virus since May 3 is 4,143. A total of 325 containment zones are currently functional in different districts of the state, Singh said, adding the department is keeping a strict watch on the door-to-door survey in containment areas. Besides, 34 such zones have been de-notified so far, he added. Information and Public Relations Departments Secretary Anupam Kumar said 14.56 lakh migrants have gone to their home after completing the 14-day mandatory quarantine period, while 67,978 migrants are still lodged in 3,249 block quarantine centres in the state. Patna, May 4 () None of the 38 districts of Bihar has been classified as a green zone, Director General of Police Gupteshwar Pandey said Monday, urging residents to remain indoors and not mistake movement of people for essential or government services as a relaxation in lockdown curbs."All 38 districts are either in the red zone, where the restrictions will be in place in the most stringent form, or in the orange zone, where local administration may allow some activities," Pandey said.The DGP said the coming few days are going to be crucial as "a large number of our brethren" are returning home and many of them may be carrying the coronavirus without necessarily being aware about it."If we save ourselves, we will save Bihar," he said, replying to queries from journalists about what concessions could be expected in the wake of the Centre allowing resumption of some economic activities in the green zone, and to a lesser degree in the orange zone.The state home department on Sunday notified all the districts in orange and red zones even though six districts -- Muzaffarpur, Khagaria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Supaul and Jamui -- have not reported any COVID-19 case. The decision was likely prompted by a rapid spread of the virus in new areas and the return of migrants.During the past fortnight, the total number of cases has shot up from just over 100 to more than 500 and many districts, including Samastipur, have reported their first cases only last week."Hence, all citizens are urged to not get mistaken by vehicles parked outside offices that may have been allowed to function with skeletal staff. If they are found loitering, they will be punished like before," Pandey said."There must be no visits to temples, mosques, churches and places of recreation. No social gathering is allowed. Inter-district travel will still require passes issued by the administration and nobody should be seen on the streets after 7pm and before 7am," said the DGP.Senior citizens and those in poor health must not venture out unless necessitated by emergencies, he said."Our men in uniform are risking their lives to enforce the lockdown in public interest. Even we are ensuring no police personnel in his late 50s or with medical condition is given any hazardous assignment," he added.According to official sources, five districts -- Munger, Patna, Buxar, Rohtas and Gaya -- have been categorized under the red zone.This has, nonetheless, piqued many as Gaya has reported only six cases of which just one is active. None of the four fatalities in the state has taken place in the central Bihar district either.On the other hand, many other districts which have reported a much higher number of cases like Nalanda (35), Siwan (31) and Kaimur (28) have been categorised as orange zones.The sources attribute this to Gaya's higher risk profile which is on account of it being a Buddhist and Hindu pilgrimage visited by people from far-off parts of the country as well as abroad and the town being home to ANMCH hospital, where a large number of COVID-19 patients from adjoining districts like Rohtas and Kaimur are undergoing treatment.
