However, the <em>It End With Us</em> star, some of her co-stars and even her husband Ryan Reynolds were seen engaging in antics that gave us what can only be described as second-hand embarrassment. Unsurprisingly, this has attracted plenty of social media backlash.<br /><br />Emphasising on wearing floral attire and even promoting her business line during the movie’s promotions could somehow be tolerated, but the fact that Lively made little to no effort to talk about the film's serious themes rubbed many the wrong way. As the star of <em>Chhapaak</em>, a film about the real-life struggles of an acid attack survivor, Deepika’s decision to promote the movie with an acid attack "makeup challenge" on TikTok was widely condemned. Critics felt it trivialised the trauma faced by victims of such attacks.<br /><h2>2. Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani promoting <keyword id="511715" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kabir-singh" source="Orion">Kabir Singh</keyword><br /></h2>The protagonist Kabir Singh was hardly a stellar example of manhood. And despite the film’s success, the movie was criticised for glorifying toxic masculinity and abusive behaviour. But Shahid and Kiara’s promotional efforts often sidestepped these critical conversations, focusing instead on the film's romantic aspects, drawing ire for downplaying its problematic themes. <br /><br />It is worth noting that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga said the following when Anupama Chopra asked him about the violence depicted in the film: “'If you can't touch your woman, wherever you want, and if you can't slap, you can't kiss, you can't use cuss words. I don't see the emotion there.”<br /><h2>3. <keyword id="6354583" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="salman-khan" source="Orion">Salman Khan</keyword>’s rape comment during Sultan</h2>While promoting <em>Sultan</em>, Salman Khan faced backlash for comparing his grueling training regimen to feeling like a "raped woman." His tone-deaf comment caused outrage, highlighting the insensitivity often shown by stars when discussing serious issues. In fact, his co-star in the film, Anushka Sharma, also went on to call his comment insensitive.<br /><h2>4. Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor on feminism during Veere Di Wedding</h2>When asked if she was a feminist, Kareena Kapoor said she wasn’t and that she believed in equality (<em>???</em>). Sonam responded to this with a supportive “woohoo!” (<em>???</em>). <em>Veere Di Wedding</em> was, by no means, a serious film. But the lead actors’ lack of understanding on what feminism is led to criticism from fans who felt the stars misunderstood and misrepresented the movement, especially given the film’s supposed feminist messaging.<br /><h2>5. <keyword id="6354526" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="alia-bhatt" source="Orion">Alia Bhatt</keyword> promoting Gangubai Kathiawadi on Instagram</h2>Alia Bhatt’s promotional reels featuring child influencers mimicking her iconic scenes from <em>Gangubai Kathiawadi</em> were seen as inappropriate. Critics argued that encouraging children to enact scenes depicting an adult's traumatic life undermined the film's more serious undertones.<br /><h2>6. Nitesh Tiwari’s holocaust reference during Bawaal</h2>The director of <em>Bawaal</em>, Nitesh Tiwari, faced backlash for making insensitive references to the Holocaust during the movie's promotions. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ Holi promotion for The White Tiger</h2>While promoting <em>The White Tiger</em>, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas posted photos of them celebrating Holi. The timing of this promotion, during the COVID-19 pandemic when many were restricted from celebrating due to health protocols, was seen as insensitive, especially since it involved large gatherings.<br /><h2>9. Kangana Ranaut’s Tweets during Thalaivii<br /></h2>During the promotions of <em>Thalaivii</em>, a biopic on former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Kangana Ranaut sparked controversies with political and inflammatory tweets. While the film focused on Jayalalithaa’s legacy, her promotional tactics often shifted the conversation to unrelated political discourse, detracting from the film's message.<br /><br />These instances highlight how even well-intentioned promotions can backfire when celebrities fail to align their messaging with the gravity of the subject matter. Both the teaser and trailer of the movie were instant hits, and went viral within minutes of release. However, all that was expected and normal, because of the immense popularity that Salman Khan enjoys amongst all sections, be it youngsters, kids or the experienced lot of the society.<br />

While the expected happened, the unexpected has happened too! <em>Bajrangi Bhaijaan </em>is a movie unlike any of Salman’s other blockbuster releases-the movie has no bare-bodied scenes of Salman Khan, no heavy duty dialogues, and no street fights that shed a lot of blood on senseless issues.<br />

Bajrangi Bhaijaan is made to deliver the message of peace amongst India and Pakistan, and is possibly the first Indian movie that doesn’t show Pakistan in a negative light, because of which Pakistani audience would get to see the best of Salman Khan on their screens.<br />

Salman Khan took to the micro blogging site Twitter to thank the chairman of Pakistan’s censor board, Fakhr-e-Alam, for clearing the release of the movie. Alam has previewed and certified the movie for Pakistan and posted about the same on Twitter, saying that “it is not a negative or anti Pakistan film.”<br />

Why is Bajrangi Bhaijaan unlike every other Salman Khan movie?

<br /> A few days back, we told you that <keyword id="1671" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shah-Rukh-Khan">Shah Rukh Khan</keyword> and <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword> released the first look of arch competitor <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>’s upcoming movie <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Guess-who-released-Salmans-first-look-in-Bajrangi-Bhaijaan/articleshow/47430828.cms"><em>Bajrangi Bhaijaan</em></a>. Shah Rukh Khan, who had a long-standing feud with Salman had also graced the sangeet ceremony of Salman’s adopted sister Arpita Khan in November 2014, and Aamir Khan flew all the way to Hyderabad to perform some brotherly duties at her wedding.<br />

Looks like the prayers have been answered, because if reports are to be believed, Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman are all set to star together in a movie.<br />
<br /> Yes you read it right! The holy trinity of Bollywood is reportedly coming together for a movie to be made by producer <keyword id="27326" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sajid-Nadiadwala">Sajid Nadiadwala</keyword>, who is also likely to direct the movie.<br />
<br /> Director <keyword id="3783" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Farah-Khan">Farah Khan</keyword>, who shares a close bond with all three Khans had once said that even God can’t bring the three Khans together; she had tried to do so for the title song of her movie <em>Om Shanti Om</em> but failed, as the song didn’t see Aamir Khan.<br />
However, the impossible seems to have been made possible by Sajid Nadiadwala, who would be bringing them together for a movie to be released in 2017.<br />

"Sajid has decided to produce a film which will star the three Khan superstars. He may even direct the film himself, though that would depend entirely on the nature of the subject. The film will go on the floors in January 2017 and release in December 2017," a source close to Sajid was reported saying.<br />
<br />
If you are already busy thinking about the nature of the movie that would see these three big shots together, the project would most likely be based on Manmohan Desai’s hit movie <em>Amar Akbar Anthony</em>. The movie had an impressive star cast, with all three actors Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan being at certain peaks in their careers, but Desai managed to create equal space for all three of them, which is a demand even now. All three Khans have huge fan followings and lesser screen space as compared to the other two would not go down too well with any of these fan-bases.<br />
<br />
Given that all three stars are busy in their ongoing projects, Nadiadwala has chosen 2017 to be the year that the movie goes on floors, so that dates are not an issue.<br />
<br />
While Shah Rukh and Salman have starred together in three movies – <em>Karan Arjun</em>, <em>Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam</em> and <em>Kuch Kuch Hota Hai</em>, Salman and Aamir came together for the cult classic <em>Andaz Apna Apna</em>.<br />

<br /> The movie was released on the holy day of Eid, and collected Rs 27.25 crores that day itself. Moreover, in just 4 days of its release, the movie has become the biggest hit of <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> this year, leaving behind both <em>Tanu Weds Manu Returns</em> and <em>ABCD 2</em>. The movie entered the much-coveted ‘100 crore club’ in the opening weekend itself, adding another 100 crores to the many that Salman’s movies have been collecting in the past few years.<br />

The movie is based on an inter-border journey that Bajrangi (Salman Khan) undertakes in order to safely deliver a young and mute Pakistani girl Munni (Harshalle Malhotra) to her home in POK. The movie, which co-stars <keyword id="6359106" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nawazuddin-Siddiqui">Nawazuddin Siddiqui</keyword> and <keyword id="1377418" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kareena-Kapoor-Khan">Kareena Kapoor Khan</keyword>, was released in Pakistan as well, being the first movie based on India-Pakistan relations to be released there.<br />

Bajrani Bhaijaan releases tomorrow: How Salman Khan has reinvented himself over the decades

<br /> Here is one <keyword id="2045029" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood-rom-com">Bollywood rom-com</keyword> that could have raised some serious questions about recession and its backlash, hollow consumerism and Gen Y lifestyle, without losing its frothiness. But Nupur Asthana-directed <em><keyword id="2045255" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bewakoofiyaan">Bewakoofiyaan</keyword></em> (from the house of <keyword id="36603" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Yash-Raj-Films">Yash Raj Films</keyword>) does not go beyond the first layer of the grim reality and tanks at the <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword>. The flick, starring <keyword id="6354535" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ayushmann-Khurrana">Ayushmann Khurrana</keyword>, <keyword id="710" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sonam-Kapoor">Sonam Kapoor</keyword> and <keyword id="6357910" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rishi-Kapoor">Rishi Kapoor</keyword>, was released on Friday the 14th, exactly a month after Valentine’s Day, and turned out to be a damp squib – netting around Rs 6.75 crore at home after the first weekend. That’s quite disappointing as business should have picked up during the <keyword id="2144242" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Holi-weekend">Holi weekend</keyword>. Also, the crucial Day 4 figures are not available yet as movie theatres across Northern India did not open till 3 pm on Monday (March 17) on account of Holi. As per a report by Rentrak, the opening weekend collection stood at $46,888 (Rs 28.64 lakh) in the US where <em>Bewakoofiyaan</em> was released in 51 theatres.<br />
<br />
Interestingly, Kangna Ranaut-starrer <strong><em><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Box-Office-Queen-OutshinesGulaab-Gang-Total-Siyapaa-Tanks/articleshow/31848837.cms">Queen</a></em></strong>, released on March 7, continues to rule the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword> in the second week and has netted a little over Rs 31 crore after Day 10, according to trade estimates. The flick has grossed around Rs 5.3 crore overseas during this time span and could be well on its way to become another <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> top-grosser in 2014 after Salman’s Khan’s <strong><em><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Sunny-Leone-SizzlesIn-Ragini-MMS-2-Jai-Ho-Finally-Enters-100-Crore-Club/articleshow/29870204.cms">Jai Ho</a></em></strong>. The other release of the week is <em><keyword id="329977" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="W">W</keyword></em>, a <keyword id="2144245" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Musical-thriller">musical thriller</keyword> directed by <keyword id="2077464" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tarun-Madan-Chopra">Tarun Madan Chopra</keyword> and starring <keyword id="2144218" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Leeza-Mangaldas">Leeza Mangaldas</keyword> (Sandy), Leslie Tripathy (Ruhi), Sonal Giani (Manu) and others. This one is a movie with a message and deals with the trauma of three rape victims, seeking justice in a male-dominated society. But don’t try to compare it with the regional but hugely acclaimed <em>Adalat o Ekti Meye</em>, directed by Tapan Sinha. The emotional pain and conflict are <keyword id="6357415" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="missing">missing</keyword> here even though the movie is dealing with a sensitive issue like rape. Instead, we land up in a stereotype <keyword id="1321184" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="revenge-drama">revenge drama</keyword> that works out all too smoothly. The <keyword id="2034852" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Box-office-numbers">box office numbers</keyword> are yet to arrive and we will keep you updated.<br />

Coming back to the storyline of <em>Bewakoofiyaan</em>, it is not difficult to see how ‘grave’ issues like joblessness and the consequent loss of social status have been watered down till everything falls into place as per Bollywood tradition. Here, we have <keyword id="793543" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="mohit-chaddha">Mohit Chaddha</keyword> (Ayushmann Khurrana), an <keyword id="2144224" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="ambitious-airline-executive">ambitious airline executive</keyword> who has landed the infamous pink slip; his girlfriend <keyword id="2144220" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mayera-Sehgal">Mayera Sehgal</keyword> (Sonam Kapoor) – an upper class, brand-worshipping Delhiite, and her highly placed, ‘practical’ father VK Sehgal (Rishi Kapoor). While Ayushmann’s fall from grace, his anger and frustration at losing the top-end lifestyle look convincing enough, Sonam never walks the talk she hands out to cheer up a depressed Ayushmann. For her, there’s no maturing of role and she looks eminently confused – trying to cope with a dictatorial papa and a boyfriend in distress. As for Rishi Kapoor, there is no saving grace either. Once again, he is the quintessential Bollywood father, ruling his daughter’s life.<br />
<br /> Overall, not an inspiring movie and fails to go beyond the obvious. <keyword id="210839" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Critic">Critic</keyword> Sanjukta Sharma sums it up well when she says the film is flat, monotonous and defying all manner of reason, and it is no better than ‘a soap opera.’<br />

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><ul class="summary-list"><li><strong>China is spying on millions of Uighurs, a Muslim-majority ethnic minority, and detaining at least a million of them.</strong></li><li><strong>Beijing has gone above and beyond to prevent Muslim countries from standing up for the Uighurs - and the strategy is working.</strong></li><li><strong>Over the past few months many countries in the Islamic world have criticized China, then abruptly rowed back their comments.</strong></li><li><strong>Experts say this is a result of Chinese threats against the countries if they do speak up.&#xa0;</strong></li><li><strong><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1554562544910000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFpfuSVQ7wU13x9Y81_knDqOhhd7Q">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.</a></strong></li></ul><p>China is waging a global campaign against the Uighurs, a majority-Muslim ethnic minority concentrated in its <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/xinjiang">western frontier of Xinjiang</a>.</p><p>In the last two years the country has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-likely-laid-out-how-google-can-help-persecute-uighur-minority-2018-10">ordered tech companies to spy on their phones</a>, outlawed Muslim practices like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-gives-these-excuses-to-imprison-uighur-ethnic-minority-2018-9">wearing a beard or going to prayers</a>, and detained at least one million of them in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-camps-for-muslims-look-like-jail-cells-in-purported-video-2018-11">prison-like detention centers</a>.</p><p>Activists and politicians in places like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/xinjiang-4-congressmen-slam-trump-admin-for-ignoring-china-oppression-2019-3">the US</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-tells-un-to-back-off-after-alleging-xinjiang-has-1-million-in-camps-2018-9">UN</a> regularly slam China over the crackdown. Beijing continually tells its Western critics to back off, but goes above and beyond to prevent Muslim countries from standing up for Uighurs.</p><p>The strategy is working. Some Muslim-majority nations appear to be increasingly silent over China's Xinjiang policy, suggesting a fear of incurring Beijing's wrath.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><h2><strong>A pattern of speaking up, then rowing back</strong></h2><p>In December, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) - a 57-country consortium that calls itself "the collective voice of the Muslim world" - acknowledged "disturbing reports" of China's Muslim crackdown in a series of tweets.</p><p>Though the phrase was coined by the group's independent human rights commission, rather than the OIC itself, activists welcomed the declaration as an important Muslim voice against China's Xinjiang policy.</p><p>Many Muslim-majority countries, which are in the OIC, are located near infrastructure projects subsumed under Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative, a massive trade project that aims to connect China with dozens of countries around the world.</p><p>The fact that the OIC acknowledged the Uighurs' plight "certainly seemed to indicate a level of shared institutional concern," Sophie Richardson, China director at Human Rights Watch, told Business Insider.</p><p><em><strong>Read more:</strong> <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/map-explains-china-crackdown-on-uighur-muslims-in-xinjiang-2019-2">This map shows a trillion-dollar reason why China is oppressing more than a million Muslims</a></em></p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><p>That all seemed to change last month, when the OIC <a href="https://www.oic-oci.org/docdown/?docID=4447&amp;refID=1250">issued a report</a> saying that it "commends the efforts of the People's Republic of China in providing care to its Muslim citizens; and looks forward to further cooperation between the OIC and the People's Republic of China."</p><p>People who celebrated the OIC independent commission's comments on Xinjiang were shocked by the new statement, and question whether the consortium's allegiance lies to Muslims around the world or to China.</p><p>"It is a shocking betrayal of many of the values that the OIC claims to uphold," Richardson said.</p><p>Noting that the OIC <a href="https://www.rfa.org/english/news/myanmar/oic-rohingya-05072018173540.html">regularly slams</a> Myanmar for its persecution of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/rohingya">Rohingya ethnic minority</a>, she added: "[The fact that] it seems not just unconcerned by, but enthusiastic about the arbitrary detention of a million Muslims by a highly abusive regime, really raises questions about what their standards are."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><p>Pakistan is another example of a Chinese ally taking back its criticism of the Xinjiang policy. After the country's religious affairs minister censured Beijing over its so-called counter-extremism measures against Uighurs last September, the foreign minister rowed back the comments by accusing the media of "trying to sensationalize" the Xinjiang issue.</p><p>Imran Khan, the country's prime minister, even claimed not to know anything about China's Muslims in at least two interviews, with the latest being last week.</p><p><em><strong>Read more:</strong> <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/pakistan-wont-call-out-china-uighur-oppression-shows-power-of-money-2019-1?r=US&amp;IR=T">Pakistan abruptly stopped calling out China's mass oppression of Muslims. Critics say Beijing bought its silence.</a></em></p><p>Adrian Zenz, a researcher on China's ethnic policies, told Business Insider: "It is more than likely that both the OIC and Pakistan were under significant amounts of pressure [from China]. It is unlikely that they simply changed their mind over a situation that has been worsening, and where more and more information is becoming available."</p><p>"We are not certain what China threatened and promised, but it apparently was significant enough to get the OIC to issue a favorable statement from the Chinese perspective," he said.</p><p>"The fact that they even congratulated China on caring for its Muslims citizens means that they went out of their way to praise the country despite of the situation in Xinjiang, which is truly remarkable."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><h2>Chinese scaremongering, Saudi encouragement blamed for U-turn</h2><p>Experts believe the OIC and Pakistan's abrupt about-face was a result of Chinese financial and diplomatic pressure. Many OIC countries have strong trade relations with Beijing, which has appeared willing to suspend investment over unsavory comments.</p><p>Experts <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/pakistan-wont-call-out-china-uighur-oppression-shows-power-of-money-2019-1">previously suggested</a> that China had bought the silence of Pakistan, one of the largest recipients of Chinese loans and infrastructure projects. As Khan refused to acknowledge Muslims' plight in China this January, he said: "The Chinese have been a breath of fresh air for us."</p><p>Peter Irwin, program manager at the World Uyghur Congress, told Business Insider: "It's very likely that China recognized some of the statements of concern that came out of a meeting of the OIC's human rights advisory body in December and understood that they had to nip this conversation in the bud before it attracted too much attention."</p><p>"Not only has China bought the silence of a number of key OIC members, some are now actively praising China's treatment of Muslims, which is a wildly irresponsible step in the exact wrong direction," he added.</p><p>Richardson also said the OIC's tacit approval of the Xinjiang camps "shows how much energy and resources China is willing to throw at minimizing criticism and orchestrating support."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><p>Reports of Beijing pressuring diplomats not to speak out about Xinjiang are not new.</p><p>In a letter sent early last month, and <a href="https://www.hrw.org/news/2019/04/01/un-china-responds-rights-review-threats">published by Human Rights Watch this Monday</a>, Chinese officials warned unspecified UN delegates not to "co-sponsor, participate in or be present at" a fringe meeting on the Uighur crisis in Geneva, citing - or threatening - "our bilateral relations and continued multilateral cooperation."</p><p>A diplomat who identified himself as Chinese at the meeting also called the testimony of Omer Bekali, a former detainee at China's camps, at the panel "a complete lie," <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/13/world/asia/china-muslim-xinjiang.html">The New York Times reported</a>.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><p>Another reason for the Muslim world's capitulation could be <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/saudi-crown-prince-defends-china-oppression-of-muslims-in-xinjiang-mohammed-bin-salman-2019-2">Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's support</a> for the Xinjiang crackdown during a trade trip in February.</p><p>"We respect and support China's rights to take counter-terrorism and de-extremism measures to safeguard national security," he said, without mentioning Xinjiang or Uighurs by name, according to Chinese state media.</p><p><em><strong>Read more:</strong> <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/saudi-crown-prince-defends-china-oppression-of-muslims-in-xinjiang-mohammed-bin-salman-2019-2">Saudi crown prince defended China's imprisonment of a million Muslims in internment camps, giving Xi Jinping a reason to continue his 'precursors to genocide'</a></em></p><p>Crown Prince Mohammed's support was significant considering the Saudi royal family's role in the Islamic world as Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques - a deferential title used to acknowledge his responsibility for the two holy cities of Mecca and Medina.</p><p>Irwin said: "This gave the green light to the rest of the OIC to pay no attention to the issue and actually double down on their support for China."</p><p><em><strong>Read more:</strong> <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-muslim-countries-arent-criticizing-china-uighur-repression-2018-8">Why the Muslim world isn't saying anything about China's repression and 'cultural cleansing' of its downtrodden Muslim minority</a></em></p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><h2><strong>Turkey the defiant</strong></h2><p>Turkey is the largest Islamic country to speak up for the Uighurs - and Beijing is clearly feeling the heat.&#xa0;</p><p><a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8145451.stm">In 2009</a>, then-Prime Minister (now President) Recep Tayyip Erdogan described ethnic violence in Xinjiang as "a kind of genocide," and in 2015 his government offered shelter to Uighur refugees. China responded by repeatedly <a href="http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/opinion/2009-07/14/content_8424256.htm">threatening to tank</a> the <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/07/erdogan-china-tension-treatment-uighurs-150729045802164.html">two countries' economic relations</a>.</p><p>Ankara then broke its four-year-long silence in February, calling the Xinjiang crackdown a "great shame for humanity" - marking a significant shift in other Muslim countries' deafening silence over the matter. That dream is now being threatened.</p><p>Shortly after the foreign ministry's comments, China <a href="http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/china-shuts-down-its-consulate-in-izmir-amid-uighur-row-141573">temporarily closed</a> its consulate in Izmir - a sign of strained relations. Deng Li, ambassador to Turkey <a href="https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-china-turkey-xinjiang/chinas-envoy-says-turkish-uighur-criticism-could-hit-economic-ties-idUKKCN1QI4CJ">told Reuters</a> that "criticizing your friend publicly ... will be reflected in commercial and economic relations."</p><p>Several Turkish nationals were also mysteriously detained in China, <a href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Belt-and-Road/China-ramps-up-pressure-on-Turkey-over-Uighur-policy2">the Nikkei Asian Review said</a>, and at least six Uighur Turkish citizens have been missing in Xinjiang since at least 2017,&#xa0;<a href="https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/meghara/turkey-uighurs-china-muslim-internment-camps">BuzzFeed News reported</a>.</p><p>Business Insider has contacted the Turkey's foreign ministry in Ankara and embassy in London for comment on the OIC's statement and disappeared Uighur Turkish nationals.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div><h2><strong>But the battle isn't lost</strong></h2><p>The OIC's implicit approval of the Xinjiang camps doesn't mean the Muslim world has totally capitulated to China, Richardson said.</p><p>Not all OIC member states approved or were aware of the consortium's implicit approval of the Xinjiang camps, she said, adding: "We certainly have information to indicate that [at least two] OIC members were a little bit surprised by the language in the OIC document." She declined to name the countries.</p><p>When asked whether the statement can be considered a victory for China's narrative about Uighurs, she said: "In the near term, yes."</p><p>But if the OIC's controversial statement "has the effect of really galvanizing some of the member states that are genuinely quite concerned about Xinjiang, then it's a bit of a Pyrrhic victory," she added.</p><p>"We just have to see how these other governments respond."</p><div></div><div></div>

In a candid chat with the Times of India, the actress shared her delight of getting not one but two letters and bouquets this time, for playing both Tanu and Datto. Below is an excerpt from the interview: "Mr Bachchan sent me a letter for Queen too, but that was written in English and that too, the level of English that he himself speaks, which is high end. This time, he has written a poem and that too in Hindi, so I could read it out as is to my parents as they understand only Hindi. I felt like his two letters were my two medals. I am going to frame these and keep them for life as my memory. For my parents who are not artistes and don't understand performance, this is their proof that I have performed. Mr Bachchan has written about the minutest of details of my performance which makes it so fulfilling for an artiste, coming from a legend like him. This time he has sent me not just one, but two letters and bouquets, one for Tanu and the other for Datto. He wrote, 'It happens very rarely that our eyes fill up watching a performance. You made me cry'. He said for Datto, 'For the girl who is Tanu's lookalike called Datto, I don't know her but please extend my warm wishes to her.' What broke me down reading his letters was when he wrote, 'Main apne aap ko bhagyashali samajhta hoon, ki main uss udyog se juda hoon, jisme Kangana basti hai' (I feel fortunate to be a part of an industry in which Kangana is a part). Being an outsider, I was ridiculed for the longest time with people openly making fun of me. But the flowers Mr Bachchan sent have not just filled up my room, they have left me overwhelmed."<br />
<br />
Well, all we can say is that the other actors from the young brigade need to pull up their socks if they want to have this appreciation letter from Mr. Bachchan, who is an idol for many.<br />
